Street parking only, which wasn't an issue on a Wednesday afternoon, but would be challenging on weekends when people flock to neighboring Wissahickon Park. Their Italian specialties are only served at dinner, so we'll definitely return to try the tortellini. Ooh, and save room for the warm brownie with a scoop of vanilla ice cream. Rec'd by a friend who lives nearby I'm disappointed with my experience at Bruno's. In sum, the server was nice and did not make any mistakes with the order, but the kitchen failed to get the order correct. Asked for a roast pork with provolone and spinach, but got it with red peppers instead. When I brought it to her attention, she was apologetic and said the kitchen messed up the ticket and could make another one, but when I asked how long, they said 4-5 mins. As I was with two friends who were already eating, I did not want them to wait, so I just accepted the sandwich I was given. It wasn't very good. When the bill came, there was nothing taken off for the mistake. I would have expected maybe the onion rings comped or something, or at least they could have offered to make my order on the fly, but neither was the case. Bruno's is a great stop after jogging or hiking the Wissahickon trails across the street. I am only reviewing the breakfast options. First , I want to say that our waitress was good but that's where it stops. I thought because Gordon Ramsey was here to help maybe it changed and I was willing to try again. We came to Bruno's many times when we lived in the Philadelphia area but have been out of the area for ten years. We came back this weekend, and I just had to have Bruno's Italian roast pork sandwich with provolone and roasted peppers, and fries. It was truly succulent. My wife had a turkey club sandwich, which was excellent: carved turkey with lots of bacon on lightly toasted wheat bread. Hey, lettuce and tomato are healthy, and onions are vegetables, too, right? Bruno's is a small greasy spoon restaurant in a building that's been along the side of Germantown Pike for easily 100 years. It's directly across the street from both Chestnut Hill College and Valley Green Park (with the very much more upscale Valley Green Inn super-close-by). This means the ceilings are low, the layout is cramped (except for the enclosed porch and the outside patio, clearly both additions) and the parking is wedged on the lot. This place is not beautiful. It was clearly last decorated probably 40 years ago. The inside dining area has a open kitchen that is not sexy and booths crammed in everywhere. There is a jukebox that is a replica from like the 50's. The booths, however, are comfortable. The enclosed patio has tables and chairs that can be arranged from 2 tops up to however many you can string together in the space, probably 10 to 12 top. It's light and airy. Do not come to Bruno's expecting healthy food. Do not come to Bruno's expecting vegetarian food, unless you consider a salad good veg. Do not bother with the items they clearly put on the menu because someone thought they should broaden their menu, like the pasta or the chicken sandwiches. Go because Bruno's makes some seriously amazing burgers - fresh ground meat, no foodservice pre-made frozen patties - and some very good looking (and popular) cheesesteaks. Faithful Dining Companion and I stopped in to Bruno's, with a little trepidation because the Yelp stars aren't where we usually will be when going into uncharted territory. I'm glad we read some of the reviews, which, honestly in some cases seem to be low because of mis-matched expectations. OK. It happens. We asked what the most popular items on the menu were, and our waitress told us hands down, the burgers. She was right. FDC got the bacon cheeseburger and I got the 'healthier' hamburger with L & T. She got the cottage fries with cheese sauce and I had the onion rings. The burgers are awesome. They are fresh, huge, tasty and juicy without being greasy. The buns are good, could be a little firmer as they tended to kind of fall apart as you ate, but I didn't mind. Fries & rings were delectable, cooked in clean deep fry oil with no funky after-taste. This is good greasy spoon food, folks. Nothing fancy, nothing creative, Service was prompt and friendly. It's a greasy spoon, folks, and yes it could be a bit cleaner. I venture to say thanks to the Rev's short time doing commercial kitchen cleaning that it's about time for their kitchen to get a scrub-down, however I did not feel there were any food handling or safety issues. It's an old building and old decor. It's also old-style good burgers and sides. Prices were reasonable, we ate for $30 with tip. I hate to leave this review I really do. I've been going to Bruno's since I was a little kid. Unfortunately the quality of the food is so sub par. So mediocre. It's really unfortunate because the location and the staff (love Mary Anne) are wonderful. Burned omeletes with raw veggies is the norm. If you order mozz sticks you're lucky if there's any cheese left inside the breadcrumbs-- just empty shells. The horror. It's almost as if the food is cooked with spite. There's just a sea of dining mediocrity out in this area and Bruno's is top of the list for disappointing meals. Don't know what they need. New owner? New chef/cooks? Bruno's is literally located in the most perfect spot. I love running in the city, but every so often I need something different. When I decided to start running on the Wissahickon trail's forbidden drive I was so happy to stumble upon Bruno's. This place is the perfect after run and/or brunch spot on the weekend. My go-to breakfast to try at a new brunch spot is: eggs, with breakfast meat, potatoes, and toast. Bruno's didn't disappoint. They also offer unlimited refills of coffee. They offer outdoor seating as well which is great because after a run I just want to eat filling food and enjoy the breeze. FYI - Keep in mind, during the summertime Bruno's will 100% be staffed with high schoolers on break so be patient with the youngins =). read more

Well, I think having both scrapple and pork roll (Taylor Ham to some of oyu) is something to be celebrated. Went in here for a late breakfast while in the neighborhood. Stopped in for my first time, with my Sister. To my surprise the place was filled which is always a good sign. I ordered several things, as to try different things they have available on their menu. Came here while family because it was on the way to their home. The food was okay nothing special. We came here for dinner around 7pm on a Friday. It wasn't really crowded which was nice. We've always loved going to Bruno's on a nice day and sitting on the patio to have breakfast. The service is always great and the food is decent. Today, I stopped in with my daughter after she finished running to pickup a milkshake for her and was shocked to witness how obnoxious the cook was to the rest of the staff working there. I can't imagine anyone working there long-term in that environment and hope the younger (mostly high school age) staff understand that not all jobs are like that and they should not have to work in such a hostile environment with someone so disrespectful. read more

Bruno's is a Chestnut Hill/Lafayette Hill institution but here's a little known fact. It's actually in neither of those jurisdictions but it's actually situated in the Springfield Panhandle. Oh well, it doesn't matter. This classic malt shop and eatery is a great place to get nourished before or after a hike in the adjacent Vale of the Wissahickon .... or just go to for a downhome breakfast, lunch, dinner, or snack without the hike. Indoors it looks just like a malt shop should (even with a juke box) but there's also outdoor seating overlooking the park. All the sandwiches are good here. I recently had a BLT on toasted rye and my friend had a chicken parm on Conshy roll. Begin with a soup or salad, add in some cottage fries, and presto you have a tasty lunch. If I could rate more exactly, it would be 3.5 stars. I liked Bruno's. It's small but well-located near the Morris Arboretum which was our destination for the day, and it did the job. Myself and my girlfriend both ordered the Philly cheesesteaks, and they were good. Nothing special, nothing great, perhaps a bit overpriced for the size of the meal and the quality of the restaurant, but it was definitely passable. The service was quick and nice, our waiter attended the school across the street and was very friendly. We sat on the outside porch area and overall thought it was a pretty good place for a quick bite. Don't expect too much more than a burger joint and you'll be pleased. read more
