Last night, a group of out of town friends and myself decided to go out and have a few drinks. Bubba's refused service to us and threatened to call the cops on us despite us all being 21 or 22 legally. For a relaxed themed bar and restaurant on a relaxed island, they were some up tight people. I was really expecting good food after reading the reviews on here and I was very disappointed. They don't filet the water so anything with water or ice has a sulfer taste. The chips and salsa were mediocre and and food was not worth finishing. Was worth 2 people who had the same experience. I won't go there again and I decimated won't take anyone! My friends & I came down on a sponsored trip for my business; The 2nd night we went back to Bubba's & we got ID by someone who was propped by the staircase laughing w/ his friends and we mistakenly didn't believe him to be the bouncer. After being asked twice I showed him my ID and walked up the stairs, irritated by his tone. I turned around to tell my friend to drop the situation & the bouncer ran up , in my face and said "what do you have something you wanna say to me". No employee should be that aggressive towards a paying & RETURNING customer, let alone a woman. When told ,the manager was not remorseful nor did he do anything about it. Coming from Atlanta who has worked with top establishments and bars for my business, that is unacceptable and I can say I will NEVER be returning because of that service. read more

Average Mexican joint with average food, average service, and average prices. The guacamole is not very flavorful, but the queso is good. The serving sizes are generous, so that's nice. Overall, it was an average experience. read more

Never had a good experience here. Food is decent at best, and the dark atmosphere is not welcoming. I've been several times and I always have to send my food back to the kitchen. The final straw for me was finding a bug in the cheese dip. The only thing that gives this place an extra star is the upstairs bar. It's not bad. Wouldn't really recommend. read more

Totally a fan of this spot! The queso and frozen margs are all I ever need. But the spicy pork tacos are always what I'm craving. It can get crowded so don't always expect to stroll in just because it's casual. The staff are consistent which is nice, I absolutely appreciate them. read more

This is our "go-to" place for a casual dinner. The margaritas are amazing and so is the food. If you're looking to seriously chow down, get anything made with the grilled steak or chorizo. For a little bit lighter, (but still totally filling), meal order the ensalada pesca (taco salad with salmon). Try the chipotle ranch & the cilantro vinaigrette. Wife enjoyed tofu tacos as a vegetarian. Carne asada was ok but wouldn't order again. Service was spotty at best and wasn't very crowded so unsure why. Think they may need more servers! Took 20 minutes to get napkins and utensils then they forgot cheese dip. Did comp it without being asked, a nice gesture, but still confused as to why so slow. Best place to eat on the island! I always get the chicken flautas and my husband gets the chimis. DELICIOUS! Don't forget about a margarita and dos Equis! The staff is always friendly and we love the atmosphere. Must go!! We go at least 3 times each trip we make it in town! read more

Bubba Garcia's has been packed for both of my visits, which is a good sign. My friends and I went for lunch on a weekday around 3 pm, and even then it was pretty crowded. We were seated promptly at the bar upon arrival, which was nice. Be warned the restaurant is somewhat claustrophobic, but the food makes up for it. The chips and salsa are nothing to write home about. The queso at Bubba Garcia's is the traditional white queso you see at almost every Mexican joint. Unfortunately the queso arrived to us at a cool temperature, which took away from the taste. When our meals finally arrived, we dug in right away and were not disappointed. We all got the buffalo shrimp tacos. This entree includes two fairly large tacos, packed with plum fries shrimp covered in buffalo sauce, lettuce, pico de gallo, and ranch dressing. These tacos were awesome, in fact some of the best I have ever eaten. The buffalo sauce if very spicy, but worked well with the ranch dressing. Shredded cheese was also present in the taco. The shrimp were high quality. Rice and beans came on the side and were just ok. The tacos were the only item that made me want to return to Bubba's. I also saw some nachos that looked very tasty. Most island restaurants are not very good, especially Mexican ones, but Bubba Garcia's is absolutely with a try if you are in the Saint Simons area. The service was hard to judge, as we were tended to by the not super busy bartender who was friendly and did a solid job. All in all spectacular tacos, average food, and decent pricing. If you want a change of pace from sea food, Bubba Garcia's is worth your time. read more

Avoided this place in the past due to food quality and AWFUL service but it's under new management/ownership I guess so we gave it a try. The place is noticeably cleaner from front to back and the service was prompt and fairly accurate (forgot or queso). The food however, is what will bring us back and more specifically the Chorizo Burger was exceptional. I probably won't eat for two days due to being so full but good job. read more

It has finally reopened and good news....it's much better! The new Chef has obviously upgraded the ingredients and changed the menu just a little. My Chimis are gone (they assured me they would be back) but the new dip and Gringo Tacos were great. Will definitely be back again, and again. Finally got decent TV's too! read more

Waited for 1 hour and 45 minutes on a Wednesday night for a table for 3 people. Other parties that came in after us were seated before us. When I asked where we were on the list the hostess was extremely rude and did not give us a clear answer. I am shocked at the attitude of the employees and will not be returning. read more

Horrible service waitress was rude food was dry and bland and I was forced to pay a 20% gratuity for the worst service I have ever had on Saint Simons. If you have a party or 6 or more even if you pay separately you will be forced to pay gratuity. If the service and food was good I wouldn't have minded so much. The food was great, but the service was horrible. Our server didn't bother to check with us about drink refills once before the food came, and then only when we asked. I'm not sure if it was a bad night, or what, but our family's experience would not lead us to go back there any time soon. As said above, the food was excellent. DO NOT GO TO THIS BAR!! Bartenders have no idea what customer service is. Every time I ordered a drink I would tip reasonably, but according to them they felt they were "entitled" to a bigger tip. It got so bad that after ordering 6$ in drinks and paying with a 10 dollar bill they took my money and never gave me my change. WOW! Never have I ever experienced service like this. This is a small place and doesn't have your normal Mexican fare. Chips seem to come out of a bag unlike the fresh ones from other Mexican restaurants. I order the salmon quesadilla with the shell but had corn shells instead. This was an amazing fresh concept with goat cheese and spinach. Food was pretty good, but the service was...odd. The entree came with rice and beans, but we were nonetheless prodded as to whether or not we really wanted them. My friend ended up sick, but I was okay, so who's to say? We asked for more chips and a new server came over and filled our chip bowl with what seemed to be the three leftover chips from someone else's bowl. Pretty good food but the service sucks. If you are a large "gratuity included" party, prepare to have the worst service of everyone in the restaurant. The food is 4-5 stars but the service is 1-2. We have even had to go in and ask the waitress to put our order in because she was too busy talking to all the people by the register and couldn't multitask. 45 minutes later we finally got the order put in and the workers in the kitchen were all standing around on their phones, you can see through the window into the kitchen.
