We had been enjoying this Buca location since they had first opened .. even watched as they transformed from the bank building that it used to be into the Buca di Beppo location. The food had always been very tasty and fulfilling. However, something has changed over the last year or so. It's not like it used to be. For one, the prices have increased and the portions have become smaller. Example: the chicken saltimboca, while still flavorful, the 3 VERY small pieces were unacceptable in portion size for the price. It was the CHICKEN, not the veal. The salad that we used to love with prosciutto and Gorgonzola cheese ... you have to pay an additional charge for the two items that make the salad! Actually, the price increase on this particular salad happened about a year ago, but it still makes the sting hurt with the newest price increases and portion downsizes. Also, disappointing are the baked pastas. The edges are dried out and without the sauce to prevent it from drying during baking. The outer pieces are inedible. Fortunately, we used a $10.00 off coupon. Still a very loud noise level atmosphere. It's not the type of restaurant where you can sit and have a conversation, unless you yell over the noise level along with all of the other people. It appears to be more and more of a very large group/party restaurant, not including smaller family units. A pleasant surprise! My buddy and I were in a serious mood for some Italian so we decided on Buca. I told him not to expect much since it was a chain and heard so many mixed reviews. First of all, I was very impressed by the visuals and layout of the menu. We ordered a small Baked Rigatoni and a small Prosciutto Stuffed Chicken. A small bowl of pasta feeds three and it was huge. The chicken breasts were two nice sizeable pieces. We shared both items which was more than enough. I thought the Rigatoni could have used a little more cheese and sauce. Otherwise it was very tasty. Now the stuffed chicken was very flavorful. They lay it on a pesto cream sauce which was SO GOOD! I want to inject that sauce into my blood stream with a needle!! I came with my friends for Thanksgiving. The dinner was yummy. But, when it came to dessert we were told they ran out of pumpkin pie even though that was part of the dinner. Shocking. The waitress offered us a choice of cheesecake or chocolate cake we had one of each. The chocolate cake was stale and the cheesecake was frozen and tasteless. Very disappointing end to a lovely meal. And, we found out we had the last turkey dinner. At 6:30 they ran out of turkey!!! Rule 1, have enough turkey and pumpkin pie on Thanksgiving. read more

I've always avoided going to Buca since i've always heard it was overrated and overpriced for what it is. But since my girlfriend had a gift card, we decided to go there since we were staying at a hotel nearby. Overall, it was better than what I hoped. We ordered the Apple Gorgonzola Salad and Chicken Cannelloni and they were both very tasty. Our waiter was was also very friendly and attentive. The setup however isn't one I was very fond of. It's a bit overwhelming with the decor and since it's essentially one large room, it can get very loud. The entrance we used, off PCH, looked like the back door of he restaurant which wasn't very appealing when you walk in (the first thing I saw was the time card clock employed punch in and out of), and when guided to the restaurant we taken through the kitchen. I also notice a table in the kitchen, I don't know if people like that, but it would make me a bit uncomfortable. I'm not certain if all Buca's are set-up the same way, but I find it kinda odd. I have been to this location on several occasion and I was happy about the service and the food. I have used this location on several occasion for many different company meetings and dinner parties and was very happy with there service, with that, I made a reservation for 25 people to come celebrate my husbands birthday, here at the restaurant. The ambience of the room is a bit novelty but good for a conversation piece with a medium to large group, as we all know the food usually take a little bit longer to be serve for any group dinner party. i did my research on line, as I did several times before, I did the recommended reservation and called ahead for bookings made arrangements with JOEL. I re-iterated my order is from the group menu and I stated it would be for the "GLORIOSO" meal, a 5-6 course meal for my guests (i was paying for everyones dinner Plus drinks so I was expecting to pay up to $1000 for tonights celebration) well invitations went out and they all arrived promptly and we were seated, I heard some guy and I don't know If he is the manager or the owner tell the waitress have them order off the menu, at first I was very upset since I had already "pre arranged" the dinner menu" So I overlooked it and said okay, my guest didn't know dinner was going to be on me so I let the waitress do her thing, the usual food recommendation etc.. All in all the celebration went off as a hit BUT I WAS STILL not a happy person, I made specific reservation with a specific food menu, price was not and option... 10 years ago the food was great... Now It's poor. The meat balls are bread balls and the vegi lasagna was mush. Italian pasta in general is supposed to be aldente. This Lasagna was so over cooked that u could not tell the difference between the vegi's and the pasta. What a waste of money. 10/27/11 Olive Garden, anyone? Seriously, I'd rather go there after my meal two nights ago. Everything was bland: the seafood linguine, the margherita pizza (could not taste any basil), and the shrimp pasta alfredo. Plus the bread came presliced like loaf of bread thin WITHOUT butter. And what kind of even pseudo-Italian place doesn't have garlic powder?? The service was average at best. We were seated at a large round table in our own room, which was nice, but there was a creepy, encased pope bust in the middle of the table. 2 1/2 stars get bumped down to 2 for being out of the brand of beer my friend really wanted. I didn't have to pay and I'm so ticked off! My review is mainly based on the food alone, as I came late after the food had already been ordered and someone treated us so I don't know what anything cost. I had avoided this place for years because in the past I was underwhelmed by the food. However, I was pleasantly surprised with most of the food eaten this time. The best was the eggplant parmigiana. I could taste the eggplant as it was not dominated by the light sauce or cheese and it was perfectly baked. I also really liked the ziti dish with red sauce and spicy sausage. It did not taste heavy. Our salad was good but oily, with salami and feta cheese. We ordered a seafood sampler platter and the calamari was fine. I would recommend not ordering the thin crust pizza which was good but nothing special. Only the fettucine alfredo was bad, in a bland way. I tasted only cream, no cheese. One odd thing about the place was you have to walk through the kitchen to get to the bathroom. It's $2.50 to valet but their parking is just a section of a huge parking lot, so I just parked my car a few rows away without any problem. I would give Buca 3 1/2 stars, but I bumped them up to 4 because I was pleasantly surprised with the strong dishes I had. This is a good place to go to if you know which dishes to order. read more

The 1 star is for the food and service. On 3/30/2018 we had a party of 4. My wife and I and our friends so nothing should be complicated. Let's start with the waiter. Don't remember his name but he's a Latin guy with a ponytail, probably in his mid 30's. First he comes over to start the drink order. Our friends husband asks for water and a wine list. Well the waiter just turns around and walks away. About 5 minutes later he comes with 4 waters and the wine list. Only one person asked for water before he walked away the first time, remember this. After dropping off the water and list he walks away again. He never asked if the three of us at the table if we wanted drinks. About another 5 minutes or so passed and he comes back and takes the order from our friends who ordered wine and again walks away without asking my wife or I if we wanted drinks of our own. He just came back with the bottle of wine and 4 glasses. He assumed we were all having wine. Next he comes for the food order. My wife orders the antipasto appetizer for the table. Well the waiter just turns around and walks away again without taking any dinner orders. Another 5min passes and he comes back saying it takes awhile so he wanted to put the order in early. That's fine but how about telling us first. Then he proceeded to start taking orders. My wife started then my friends wife got her order in. Next the waiter just turns around and walks away again. It took 10 min to get him to come back to attempt to take my order and my friends. Well after informing him that he walked away before we all ordered and not getting any form of apologie. He takes my order and then attempted to walk away again without taking my friends order. At no time did he ever see if we needed anything, more water, wine, bread, drinks etc. When he brings the food he delivers 3 of 4 dinners and says enjoy and walks away again. It takes another 5 minutes or so to get him to let him know he forgot my friend's wifes dinner, another 10 minutes to get it and again no apologies for the mistake. He still never asked us if we needed anything like napkins, drinks etc. What happened next is something the owners should be embarrassed about. The same waiter dumped a carafe of sangria on the ladies in the booth behind us breaking the wine glasses in the process. Accidents happen and that's ok but... Instead of hurrying to get the ladies a towel or something right away and getting someone on the broken glass. He disappeared for 10 minutes looking for a package of napkins. During the wait time other customers were offering napkins as nobody that worked there came to help. When the guy showed up late with the napkins the ladies wanted to be seated somewhere else and not wait for the booth to get cleaned. The lady from the front desk who I guess is the manager finally came over to get them reseated. During this whole process nobody at anytime came over to clean up the glass off the floor. At one point the kid who cleans tables looked the the broken glass but then went to go sing for a birthday. My wife went to the front desk to complain and was told the waiter is busy reseating the ladies. She informed her that was 20 min ago and that the kid looked at the glass but walked away. But the lady tried to justify their actions with more excuses. The glass was under the table next to our booth, in front of our booth along with the ladies. My friends wife was wearing sandals and was forced to walk thru the glass to leave. We asked to get it cleaned up and for our check for 30min before being forced to walk thru it and waiting another 10 minutes to pay. I've been to dive bars in watts that treat you better. It's takeout only from now on for this place. Following day update. I just heated up my leftover lasagna and half way thru it I found a long hair inside. So along with the horrible service I get someone's hair cooked into my food. read more

We were celebrating my birthday with take out as I had family in town with a baby, so we couldn't go out to eat. With that said, my mother had called the day before to ensure the order would be 100% correct and followed up the next day (day of pick up/my birthday) to make sure everything was in order. I called as well to make sure everything would be ready and when I arrived 1 hour later, the order had not even been put in. I sat outside for an additional hour while they made the order, which was quite large and cost us over $150. Instead of knocking off a large % of the cost, I made the mistake of not complaining to the manager as the restaurant was insanely busy at the time and my family had been waiting for me for hours since I work out in Hollywood. Did I mention they messed up part of our order as well even after I had to let them know the items were supposed to be ready for pick up? I won't be coming back here anytime soon and if you want a real italian meal with amazing wait staff, I would highly recommend Mama D's on the Hermosa pier, which is pricer than Buca, but well worth it. Buca gets 2 stars because although the service was unforgivable, the food has always been great for family style meals. Buca is definitely about quantity over quality, which is fine, depending on the situation you find yourself in. read more

My mom treated me to dinner here for my birthday last night. My brother, sis and main came along to help celebrate. They lost the reservation, which was weird because my mom had confirmation in the form of an email. Not an issue because the place was not busy, and they sat us immediately. We order the mozzarella garlic bread and mozzarella caprese. Those were both quite yummy. Since this place is family style, the portions are LARGE. Don't get greedy thinking you can eat a small all by yourself (that is, of course, unless you're my brother. He finished a small plate by his lonesome). My brother ordered the chicken parmagiana (good), we also ordered a small spicy chicken rigatoni (pretty good) and large fettuccini supremo (not so good). The fettuccini pasta was cooked well, but there was hardly any chicken in it, and it ended up dry and pretty tasteless within 15 minutes. The spicy rigatoni had better flavor. Since I mentioned it was my birthday they came over with the candelabra and sang the birthday meatball song. I was so excited... I even wiggled around in my seat and one of the servers yelled (table dance, table dance!) I even got my own cake muffin thingy with whip cream and sprinkles. The manager even came by and said hello, gave us coupons etc. Nice touch! I would definitely come here again. I suspect that other dishes probably are quite more yummy than what we ordered. In short, better then Olive Garden. They have a Chicken Prosciutto and Veal Parmesan that is very good. Their pastas are generally pretty poor though. They are often good mixes but are dry and/or often flavorless. For the price, not worth it. Their canolis are made with custard vs. Ricotta, so that may or may not be what you like, but not me. I give this 3 stars and not 2 because the three times I went, the waiter/waitress was pretty good though one time they forgot to sing happy bday to my little girl and I had to remind them. read more

One of the tables was broken and we had to find another. This is a restaurant that specializes in "family " style. Food not here yet why should it be we've only been here for an hour. read more
