On a trip to Detroit many years ago, I recall Bucharest being the go to spot for shawarmas. A recent visit back and we stumbled on this newer location. Stones throw away from the baseball stadium and a full bar on deck. Quite the spot for pre-gaming and loading up on food. But unfortunately the food wasn't as good as I remembered. Chicken shawarma was a good size, but over seasoned. Could definitely use some sauce on the side as it did taste a bit dry. Anyways, maybe an off day for this location. The food was so good! If you get anything, get anything with the chicken. Just a tip, the house salad doesn't come with lettuce but the menu doesn't say that on the sign. Today, I was excited to take my new, southern boyfriend to visit this place in Detroit. I'm sad. The chicken shawarmas aren't as good as they once were, there are French fries served... and the crepes are gone. (Sorry for the reminiscing.) We had the lamb shawarma and chicken shawarma. This was the first time I had the lamb shawarma, it was pretty good, I'd order it again. I can't base it off the past in regards to the lamb shawarma but the chicken shawarma... it's too "corporate" now. I would say that this was a place I'd literally drive 40 minutes to in order to have a good shawarma but sadly, I won't be doing this anymore. The positive side to this is the food is still good, quick and now with what I see as their "new" location, it's been a minute since I've been there, it offers lots of space and table with TV's to watch the game. This is one of the newest Bucharest locations, a return to the ballpark area. It's roomy inside, and lots of room to wait and order. The wait on a game day wasn't bad at all, and kudos to the cooks - the meat was juicy and the wrap was well constructed. You can't beat a good Bucharest shawarma. Not a bad place with a pretty good atmosphere. However not a friendly place. Apparently you order you food at the bar and they bring it out. But nobody seems to tell you this till they stare at you for a while. Also be prepared to sit back for a while the service is rather slow. There wasn't anyone in the place except us and 2 other tables and it took a good 30 min for our order to come out. The chicken shawarma was pretty good for the price. I never appreciated chicken schwarmas until I got one from BG. Everytime I've visited a BG, it's been pretty consistent across the board. Ordered a side of curly fries which was delicious but really salty. Yes, they still use romaine lettuce, but you could also l always forgo it. I felt fine afterwards and continue to enjoy my schwarma with all the ingredients. This location is kept really clean. Staff are quick when ordering and serving. Love that the pop machine offers local drinks similar to faygo. Also love that if you decide to dine in, there are containers and bags you can grab by the pop machine. read more

I came here today with a few friends after a show at LCA. I have been to Bucharest once before, back when it was near the Fox as well, but that location closed a few years ago. We were looking for some good shawarma. Some of my foodie friends had been posting pics and videos of the chicken shawarma stick, so I ordered that plus the curly fries. The curly fries portion was HUGE and definitely could be split among 2-3 people; I brought home a lot of it. The shawarma stick was tasty, especially the pickles, but a little bit greasy too. My friends got the beef shawarma burritos and basically said the same thing, that they were good but a little greasy. One called Bucharest "good for fast food shawarma" which I agree with. I regret not ordering a soda there because they had some sort of local Detroit brand that looked good - they had cream soda, cherry soda, and root beer, I think, so for my next time at Bucharest I'll be ordering that. Tiny complaint is that their bathroom was very cold (it's almost winter, to be fair) and one stall was out of toilet paper, and continued to be out the second time I visited too. Overall I enjoyed Bucharest and since it's within walking distance to the Fox and LCA, I will most likely be back at some point. The interior is really nice/new and spacious, as well. read more

It's a really nice looking layout inside and it's just minutes from all of the action downtown. The Fox theater, a little Caesars arena, chimeric a park, and Ford Field are all a few blocks away. Honestly this is one of my very favorite places to eat. Not only is it pure yumminess, it's also extremely affordable. It's easy to eat here for $10 or less and leave full and happy. My only suggestion is make sure you have men's for afterwards because the garlic is very incredible but overpowering once you're done. read more

Visiting from out of town had my dinner delivered from Uber eats. The food was hot delicious and fresh.

This location is very easy to get to. They have parking around back and plenty on the street. The interior is well designed and laid out. There is plenty of room. I was there at a slow time but even if it were tremendously busy I don't expect I would feel crowded. The staff was attentive and efficient. The kitchen, the counter, the tables - the whole place - is kept very clean. It is pleasantly air conditioned. When I went it was cold outside so it was a pleasure to get into the warmth. You order at the counter and the food is delivered to the table. Service was fast. The food was fresh and had a pleasant flavor. I really enjoyed it and expect I will return. The only drawback is that the place seems heavy on alcoholic beverages. I think they are missing the boat with that one but it's not my decision. read more
