Most recently I got the Broccolini pizza with sausage and it was fab.. I ate the whole thing. My friend got the speck and spicy honey pizza which was unreal. Oh, we go the nutella pizza for dessert, which you absolutely must MUST do. That's right. Nutella pizza. NOM. This place is absolutely a dream. If you're in the mood to sit down with a friend or loved one and have a chat, this is the spot. This spot is BYOB. This isn't like any of the other pizza spots in CT, this is just the best one. But calling this 'best pizza' is an insult. This is great food. It's a departure from pizza like someone visiting China would find their food different from our 'Chinese.' Bufalina's pizza is light and clean, not doughy and oily. I laugh when I read about someone who takes home a pizza and doesn't warm it in the oven as directed - is it their fault you can't read? They do 95% of the work for you and you have the nerve to criticize them because you can't finish the 5%? You can't even warm up a pizza? And you feel qualified to criticize them? Shame on you. I laugh when people complain about the price - you get what you pay for, especially with food. You can taste the beauty of each ingredient. If people understood what good food/ingredients cost, they would marvel at these $13 pizzas. To summarize Yelp - people go somewhere and order a $9 pizza of garbage ingredients and complain it sucks. Then they order a $13 pizza of outstanding ingredients and complain it's too expensive. Get it together people, this is a sublime spot, especially for Guilford. If you don't want to have fresh food prepared by people who know what they're doing, you don't have to go, you can pay $10 less on your check and bitch the whole way home the food sucked and pay for it later that night. What's truly sad is that many 'pizza places' will stay in business selling wings, wraps and subs - and a place that uses outstanding ingredients, charging only a little more for infinitely better ingredients will go the wayside and people in Guilford will find themselves soon complaining to each other, "there's no place cozy or good to go." This is an amazing spot and if people could stop tripping over their own egos they might even like it. read more

I've tried many pizza places in New Haven county and this is by far superior. Thin crust, gourmet toppings, baked in a wood fired oven. Nothing better. Super small place, so not good for large groups but there is an outdoor space with a few small tables and one big wooden table that could easily fit 6 and a couple kids. After moving from NYC my husband and I were so excited to find this gem. The pizza is exactly what we love in a pie. The crust, the toppings... perfect! My only issue is how small the place is. I completely understand the comfy and warm atmosphere the small space gives off but come winter and when we must take out our pizza will definitely be cold by the time we get it home. Wow. Incredible. Best pizza I ever had - outside of Naples. I had the pesto, mozz and bacon pizza last night, and I think I dreamed about it. We sat at the counter and had lots of fun. Yes, this is a destination pizza place. Meaning, it's not just good by Guilford local standards, it's Excellent according to NYTimes. Forget that Pepe whatever in New Haven. Think Lombardo's in Nolita, which is actually not as good as Bufalina since you have to wait 1 hour in a line wrapped around the corner and on busy nights when your pizza reaches your table, you might as well have taken out because the crust is already soggy. Well, Bufalina does not require a 1+ hour wait and you can get your brick oven fired pizza in time to savor the delicate thin crustiness and chewiness that follows. Delicious tomato sauce, cheese and anything else we have gotten as toppings. We had Bufalina pizza before the NYTimes article came out, so it just confirmed what we already knew. Phenomenal. I live in new haven and love my new haven pizza but whenever people ask me what my favorite pizza is, they are always shocked to hear me say Buffalina in Guilford. If you get a chance read about the owners back story, you should. They traveled to Italy to learn how to make real pizza, and that is exactly what you get. The best ingredients with the most original combinations. I've been here too many times to recommend my favorite but just trust in anything they have on the menu. Very small. Must make a reservation! They have wine/beer now but you can still BYOB which is always more fun. After Tacuba in Branford closed (tear), this is hands down my favorite restaurant. read more

The pizza here is simply incredible! I've read other reviews where they bash the service. Our experience was exactly the opposite! We found the staff to be very helpful and polite. We arrived a bit early so enjoyed a glass of wine & watched them prepare pizzas! We had the Margherita with bacon and the Fig with Gorgonzola & prosciutto. The place is small...very small, but they do have outdoor seating. I rarely give a 5 star review, but Bufalina deserves it! read more

very fun to watch them in action at our counter seats. They had ALOT of take out orders so it was fun to watch them crank out the pizzas even though we waited a long time. Cool little place that is likely rated high more for its uniqueness than for the pizza. I have been here about 3 or 4 times and my family and I all have the same opinion...it is OK but not that tasty and a little bland...not even close compared to the big three in New Haven (Pepe's, Sally's or Modern). Also, very expensive for the size of the pie you get. An unusual place to eat in and the owners are very nice...but we always have done the take out. I think the people eating in are all out of towners visiting based on the reviews. Go once for the experience but if you want pizza deserving of this high rating you need to go to New Haven. read more

If I could give this place a zero I would and it's not for the pizza which is great. The owners and staff don't appreciate loyal customers. Our reservation last week was at 7:15. We received our pizza after 45 mins of waiting for four people and we're given a strict 30 mins to eat. By 8:30 three waitresses came over to tell us we needed to leave on separate occasions. My wife was still eating, but they didn't seem to care. We chalked it up to a rough night for the kitchen staff and called back later in the week to make our weekly reservation. This time while making the reservation we were told that we had to be finished within the 1 hr 15 min time limit. They offered no apologies for our previous encounter but rather blunt nastiness. It was odd. When asked why they were so blunt with us, the owner actually got on the phone and said they don't need our business and told us to find another pizza place to eat. I don't ever review restaurants, but I never want to be treated this way again by a place I gave so much business to. Not worth it. I visited probably 20-30 times in one year. I've lived in New York, I've had all of the great pizza from Brooklyn, Manhattan, New haven, etc and I'm kind of amazed to say that this little place is my favorite. The actual size of the restaurant is very small, you are essentially sitting at a counter across from them making pizza pies. It's an art that they function so efficiently in such a tight space. Make a reservation if you want to eat there. The pizza is very unique and just absolutely delicious. I've tried various types and loved them all. Get ready for a unique experience eating pizza that is made from only a few clean ingredients and expertly cooked in a wood fired oven. My 2 favorites are summer pies, fig pizza is outstanding and so is the crispy leek and prosciutto. The classic "bufalina" is a staple and also terrific. Good things truly come in small packages! Pizza Tour visited Bufalina on a recent Friday. We had read reviews prior so we knew the rules - make a reservation, bring your own wine and finish your pizza in the allotted time. It was so worth it!!! Why? The pizza are delicious. One of our team said it was "the best pizza he's ever had". That's a big statement from a New Haven county pizza eater. We tried six different pizzas (we eat a lot of pizza) and everyone had a favorite. Not a big menu but a nice variety. The Pear pizza was the daily special - it was very good, a nice surprise. The staff is very friendly - very helpful with information about the pizzas. You can watch your pizza being made, and cooked in the brick oven (over 900 degrees!). A great local find. Visited Bufalina for the first time last night with my husband, and we were pleased to finally find a restaurant along the shoreline that we liked. (We've been looking since we moved here a year ago!) The food was great, and the atmosphere was lively. We didn't interact with the owners much, but they seemed very personable and the care they took in cooking was very evident. Like all the other reviews say, you should definitely make a reservation. Also, I don't think you could go wrong with anything you ordered. We loved our Cipolle and Arrabbiata, and are looking forward to trying a couple of the others. Will definitely go back! read more

Can't tell you what the pizza tastes like. We didn't get that far. After a lot of confusion with our reservation, we were told that we could not eat there because a large party was coming in. We were given 45 minutes for our dinner . Don't know about anyone else, but that is ridiculous. After many nasty words from both parties, owners and patrons, we were told there is only an hour given to finish your pizza before the next reservation gets there. It should let you know in the website...couldn't find it! Anyway, One of the worst experiences I have ever had at a restaurant. read more

Pizza here is amazing. The atmosphere is much different than a usual pizza place. The staff (owner I think?) makes you feel at home. The pizza is very unique and reasonably priced for what you get. Its BYOB, which is what we like. Just be warned because its small and popular, there can be big wait times. We got in pretty quick because we came early, but when we left it was slammed. My Dad (a math guy) always said order the biggest pizza because a large pizza is so much a better value because of the circumference. So I was unhappy about the 12 inch pies at Buffalina.
