Tiny pizza kitchen that for seating only has a 10-seat L-shaped marble counter that wraps around a cramped kitchen for seating. Although this is their only seating it ensures that you get to watch them make the pizza right in front of you in their wood-fired brick-oven pizza oven The pizza are personal sized and they have a handful of different varieties + a rotating one Apparently they grow their own herbs for their pizza, and they make their own chili paste In addition to pizza they also have salad and a few different desserts (including one from Hen & Heifer) I got a pepperoni pizza and it was delicious. It was similar to new haven style pizza 9

Years later and still one of our go- to places! Our young children absolutely love this pizza. Tre carni and Margherita are two of our favorites but we try new things from the ever changing menu here and there. Such amazing pizza made with high quality, authentic ingredients. The owners are lovely.

Fantastic. The person who compared it to Frank Pepe's hit the nail on the head. Guilford is richer for Bufalina.

Amazing pizza. I try ingredients I've never heard of and love them all. Duck / sausage / meat pizzas are excellent.

Real gourmet Italian cuisine with an imported wood fired oven from Italy! Worth the price for the food and experience. A must!

My husband and I were part of a larger family gathering of 11 people at cafe Fiore following the…read morepassing of a family member. While I can't speak for everyone else's experience, I can speak to my own, and I was extremely disappointed with the level of service we received. especially regarding food allergies and the zero percent effort put into finding additional information from the kitchen. When looking over the menu, I asked our waiter whether the pesto contained pine nuts because I have a tree nut allergy. He responded in an annoyed tone that he didn't know and simply told me not to order it. He didn't offer to ask the kitchen or try to find the answer, which was especially surprising considering he had just asked if anyone had questions about the menu. Since I still wanted to know if the pesto was safe, I walked up to the host stand where three employees were standing. I asked the same question, and one of the women immediately replied, "No, of course not. There are no nuts in pesto." When I asked if she was sure, she confidently said they never make it with nuts. It was clear from her reaction that she wasn't actually certain.... she simply wasn't familiar with the fact that traditional pesto often contains pine nuts. (Which is fine if you don't know but please, please ask instead of assuming!) At that point I mentioned to everyone that I carry an EpiPen because I have an allergy. Only then did she say, "Actually, let me ask the kitchen." She returned a moment later and informed me that yes, the pesto did in fact contain pine nuts. Food allergies are NOT preferences they can be life-threatening. It's alarming that staff members were willing to answer so confidently without actually verifying the information first or further more to not even have a care in the world to ask for me and told me to order something else? I hope Cafe Fiore takes this as an opportunity to better educate staff on food allergies and the importance of checking with the kitchen whenever there is any uncertainty. Instead of answering blindly. A simple question about ingredients should never be treated as an inconvenience, and guests should be able to trust that the information they're given is accurate when their health depends on it. It is not a big ask. Simply go ask the kitchen. Overall the food was just okay, the inside however seemed clean and well taken care of but I will not be returning. No meal is worth wondering whether the information you're being given is accurate. When a guest asks about an allergen, the only acceptable answer is one that has been verified with the kitchen.... not a guess. Someone else's life could depend on it.

What a disappointing dining experience. Cafe Allegre, formally Cafe Lafayette was once Madison's…read moreequivalent to the " Gris" in Essex. I had countless delicious meals over the years here with my parents and grandparents. While here in Connecticut Bruce and I decided to dine here this evening. We like to dine out often and love the variety of options here in Connecticut. We had high hopes for Cafe Allegre. What a miserable experience and a total rip off. We opted not to have any alcohol and instead had two hot teas. We ordered the artichokes for a starter. A scattering of over fried dry lumps, no sauce with a minuscule piece of parsley and a small piece of shaved carrot. Bruce and I ordered the Ceasar salad with a double portion of chicken. Although the waitress said the salad was entree size portions, the amount of salad, tasteless rubbery chicken all served on a small luncheon size plate was shameful. $12.99 for the salad and $8.99 for a half a bite of extra chicken! I had the waitress remove my meal and she took it off our tab. I was expecting her to bring something else out or give me a menu but she never bothered. Evidently she thought I said I didn't want anything else. By the time she returned, Bruce had finished his salad. Really? The waitress thought I was fine just sitting there with no dinner? Needless to say her tip was equivalent to the service. So for $66.51, with no alcohol and no dessert, just one luncheon size salad, this was a supreme rip off. When a dish is returned to the kitchen the manager should have gotten off his ass to come over and address the problem and to see how to rectify the experience. Nothing. I left hungry and angry. Rest assured a scathing review will be left on Yelp along with my phoning the owner to voice my displeasure. Now perhaps this post comes across as my being an arrogant demanding patron. Bruce and I have had some amazing dinners and also some less than wonderful. I always try to cut the restaurant some slack. Food services is not an easy job. But when you charge these prices it's important that they know when customers are displeased.
