Fortuna Buffet -- Where the only thing fresh is your regret. I went to Fortuna Buffet with my family, and unfortunately, it was a very disappointing and uncomfortable experience from start to finish. The cleanliness was unacceptable--many plates were dirty, and the food was poorly presented. Fruits and salads were placed directly on ice, which is not up to food safety standards. Worse, my mother was injured when a server handed her a chopstick and she got a splinter. Instead of offering real help, the server simply stood over us awkwardly while we tried to remove it ourselves. It was both unprofessional and uncomfortable. On top of that, the staff continuously stared at us while we were eating, making the atmosphere feel tense and unwelcoming. The restaurant was nearly empty, which made us question how it's still operating. To top it all off, I ended up with stomach issues shortly after eating--raising serious concerns about food handling and hygiene. I strongly recommend that the health department investigate this location. Until then, do yourself a favor and stay away.

We came here yesterday for Sunday lunch with my parents , sis and bro-in-law. Although not many choices in terms of buffet, some dishes were really tasty and we like them a lot! I liked short ribs ( not too salty): tender and juicy. I also liked crabs ( salty though), French fries and pastries ( mini sized) . Sushi that I actually could eat ( both fish and rice). The price per person was reasonable in today's highly inflated economy. We will be back!

Our go to local buffet, it's a family staple. This has been around for years and our families have been coming here since for ever. There's always great service and fresh food.

    Is this even food?

Tip: do not trust the table of 18-24 year olds across from you when they are doing their Yelp reviews out loud and rate this place a 4-5 out of 5. I often question whether businesses survive the pandemic and I often ask myself how horrible places like this still exist. It was bad prior to the pandemic and it's food and service even more subpar afterwards. Came here on a weekend dinner and can't believe I paid 33 bucks for subpar food and service. The entrees on the hot food line run thin most of the time and the food dry to the point where you question..."what is this mystery meat?" And you read the label which says sweet and sour pork. You bite until it and you question if you just had pork or a piece of jerky. All you can eat? Apparently, if you want the "better" food such as oysters and seafood, you have to bribe the waitress to save you a plate. Saw a customer ask for oyster and the waitress asked the customer for 2 dollars to save him a plate. I don't see a sign where it says two dollars more for seafood. Unfortunately, you don't serve yourself drinks from the fountain, you must ask the staff member for a cup of soda. Also, keep in mind that if you don't tip or tip enough upon leaving, expect to eat an earful from the wait staff and them chasing you for a tip. Be sure to bring your one dollar bills to tip them.

The portions were fairly priced for the generous size. I definitely can't wait to try more of their delicious dishes at a weekend buffet in the near future! We went yesterday because we had family visiting and wanted to treat them to an authentic Filipino meal. We spent over $200 and tipped well. They were happy with the food, and enjoyed the portions, but the service was pretty lacking. We were the only table there. The did not check on us at all. We had to ask for water to be refilled. When it came time to take food to go, we had to ask for the container, bags, and the right sized containers and the right sized bags. The older woman with the jet black hair was the one who rude and dismissive. When I asked her for a larger bag, she said that was the largest one. I pointed out that we gave them a very generous tip and that I see larger brown bags, but she still did not offer me one. She was very defensive, and said she thought I was referring to a plastic bag. Folks, don't make the mistake of over tipping here. You don't get the service you expect and deserve. The food is good though, but the service sucks! We spent, with the tip, about $240.

For the AYCE sushi restaurant, it was good but not exactly mind-blowing. The fish and seafood variety didn't taste like the freshest quality, and after a while, a lot of the rolls started tasting the same. For around $45 AYCE, I personally think there are better options out there. Some of the skewers came out burnt. Takoyaki was 1/5, you can skip on taht. But that being said, the service was really good. The lady serving us was super friendly and attentive, and overall the staff was kind and welcoming. However, there was only one other table besides ours at the time, so I'm not sure how service would be during peak hours. Now the cafe side, I loved it. The vibe made me feel like I wasn't even in Hayward. The sandos were really good, and the matcha looked amazing. I'd definitely come back for the cafe experience alone. My biggest concern though is the elevator situation. It wasn't working during our visit, and I heard it hasn't been working for quite a while. It honestly made me wonder how elderly or mobility-impaired guests are supposed to dine there. That definitely seems like something that needs attention.

I got the Tom Yum broth, and asked for a side of white rice which is free. The broth was super tart and flavorful, like mama noodles which I love. There were ingredients that you'd typically see at hot pot spots like beef, lamb, spam, tofu for proteins, and spinach, cabbage, corn, etc. for veggies. Lots of noodle options, and the sauce bar, although small, I really enjoyed the sesame sauce, house chili, and the spicy garlic sauce. They even have perfectly medium-cooked fried eggs that I felt went well with the tom yum broth. We were conservative with our ingredients because we didn't want to accidentally have a $40 bowl of soup, but we were under the minimum so we had to add a few more to get it to 0.80 ounces. At that minimum, our bowls were a very reasonable $13. The only con is that it's a bit small inside so I can see it getting annoying on busy weekends especially as people crowd around to choose ingredients. Luckily on a weekday late lunch it was pretty dead. Other small con is water is served in small paper cups so we had to ask for refills often. Small gripe but with spicy soup, water is needed and in large quantities to offset some of the spiciness. Service was amazing, prompt and friendly. Overall, solid spot and glad we got to try it!

Basically, you walk in, grab a bowl, and pick out whatever meats, veggies, noodles, etc. you want. Then you bring it to the counter, they weigh it, and that's how they charge you. I've always been kind of hesitant to try one because I was scared I'd end up with a $20+ bowl by accident. I was excited to see that Master Gua Malatang & BBQ opened up near me, so I finally gave it a shot. They charge $14.99 per pound with a minimum of 0.80 lbs, which honestly isn't bad. I tried to be smart and picked mostly light stuff like spinach, sprouts, and tofu. I avoided heavier stuff like corn on the cob or beef balls. When I went to weigh it, my bowl came out to 0.65 lbs, so I went back and added a little more meat and veggies to hit 0.85. My total came out under $13, which is a great deal for how filling it was. I got the satay broth, which is beef, shrimp, and fish-based with a peanutty flavor. It wasn't fishy at all, which I appreciated. My partner got the tom yum broth and I thought it tasted just like Mama brand instant noodles, in a good way. You also get a side of white rice with your soup, but you have to ask for it. Meat options were beef, lamb, and pork belly. Only downside is that all the meats are kind of fatty. Also, they give you tiny paper water cups. If they're gonna do that, they really need to have a self-serve water station or just give people bigger cups so you don't have to keep asking for refills. The service was great though. The lady working was super friendly and helpful. If you're worried about the price, I recommend just filling your bowl with what you think you'll eat, weighing it, and then adding more if you need to meet the minimum. They also have a sauce bar so you can make your own dipping sauce, but it would be cool if they put out some suggested combos for people who don't know what to mix. Overall, I'll definitely be back. This place is perfect for a quick, comforting meal especially if you're nursing a hangover.

I'm spoiled by having a Dollar Hits in SoCal literally down the street from me so I can't say this place compares, but it's at least an option for NorCal, you know? This definitely used to be another restaurant, but then retrofitted to be a grill. Super large grill in the middle for everyone to communally cook at indoors. This is a good combination between the outdoors grill it yourself and the indoors seating of both the SoCal Dollar Hits, so I thought that was nice. They have all the classics here, isaw (sometimes Dollar Hits doesn't have this unless you request -it's chicken intestines), large intestines, chicken skin, kwek kwek (battered quail eggs), and Tender Juicy bright red filipino hot dogs (a must). You can also order a side of rice and the sauces were self serve (made it a bit sticky). It gets a bit smoky in there even with the fans, but overall had an enjoyable time the time when I did visit.
