I gave this 2 stars because of the service. The outside of the building drew us in. The lights and the restaurant have an inviting appeal and the service was pleasant. However, the food was surprisingly bland. We are from Louisiana and like some flavor, but the courses we got tasted unusually flat. The house salad and the fried onion rings were okay/good. The chicken marsala had no taste and more mushrooms than chicken. The tuna was tough, almost as if it had just been pulled out of the freezer and thrown on the grill. Lastly, the spaghetti and meatballs were forgettable and so was the baked potato since they were out of potatoes by 7 p.m. I'm no picky eater and have never done a review on yelp, but this experience prompted me. I hope this review leads to others finding a more pleasurable experience. read more

This is an awesome family owned business with food that never disappoints. No skimping here, you can tell by the taste that only quality ingredients are used here! You can always count on consistency at Bull's, both in quality and service. When you visit Bull's you will be greeted by Lisa (one of the owner's) and John (another owner) will be in the kitchen cooking his delicious meals. No revolving door of cook or wait staff here. The restaurant is located two blocks from the beach, so no water view, but there is a nice dining environment inside or an inviting covered patio to enjoy outside dining. The tuna dip is a must! Hands down the best on the coast!! You cannot go wrong with the Bernie sandwich and the potato salad tastes just like mom's. When you are looking for a great lunch or dinner, give Bull's a try. Me and my daughter and her best friend went to the restaurant went their we've always went their it was for the Christmas parade my daughter got nail polish on the table I apologized multiple times and I repeatedly said if I need to pay for anything I will we'll the next day we went their again the owner talked to my daughter and her friend and kinda lectured them after that I was trying to be respectful of her restaurant but after that I had enough I said you were just please get a table I completely understand but I think I should have handle this way better than you did. read more

This place has extremely bad quality food. I went here with a large party and I frequent restaurants all the time and I know large parties can be tough at times. However, the food quality has nothing to do with food quality. From the people around me.... Our table ordered the fried green tomatoes, stuffed mushrooms and firecracker shrimp. Tomatoes were mushy and about 1/2 an Inch wide covered in honey mustard...(why??). The mushrooms tasted like mushroom soup and bread but it claimed to be fresh crab and shrimp stuffed inside (absolutely not). The firecracker shrimp was the only decent thing my family had out of 8 people. The crab cakes were served cold and were frozen food like. The vegetables were actually frozen vegetable medley. Several other people at the other tables in my family sent their food back due to the vegetables and shrimp being cold in the middle. The shrimp Alfredo.... 3 people ordered this and it was over cooked, soupy, and had no flavor. The chicken Marsala tasted like 3 sticks of butter. EW. Steak was ordered medium and came out well done. So unprofessional and unacceptable. When ordering drinks the staff did not know how to answer questions. Orders we're sent back (roughly 7 out of 40 people.) When we asked about having certain items taken off of our bill because we legitimately sent the food back they said no. They said that they have really good food and no one has ever complained. I asked them if they ever looked at their yelp reviews... When I asked to speak to the manager and or owner the staff said "why?" And then proceeded to tell me they stepped out and were not going to be available tonight. I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone anytime ever. Service was good enough... Food wasn't. It started out good with the firecracker shrimp, but went straight down after that. I got the crab cakes. Started out with a salad, in which the lettuce was starting to brown. But it was edible, so I just went with it. The crab cakes came out, and it was one of the most unappealing plates of food I've ever seen. There were 3 of the ugliest crab cakes, and a baked potato with nothing on it. But looks aren't everything, so I went on. The quality of the food matches up to the looks. I ate one and couldn't do anymore. My sister got the jalapeño chicken. It was a boneless chicken breast with cheese sauce on top with a few random pieces of red and green pepper thrown on. It looked like something out of an elementary school cafeteria. My husband and I went to Long Beach this morning to walk some of the Historic Streets. By the time we walked next to Bulls, we were hungry, and it looked like a very nice restaurant. Large Windows wrapped around the building, with an inviting outdoor patio area with nice plants. When we walked in, the foyer was decorated with class, and 2 stained glass peacocks square art were beautiful! There was no host to great us, but a server said she would be with us in just a moment. Perfect. As long as I'm acknowledged, I'm quite fine with waiting. The ambiance was modern, with teal walls that matched the teal cloth napkins. There were some amazing framed photo art for sale on the walls... I really liked the swimming turtle with the underwater sun. For Ambiance, Bull's gets a 5 star! But the food.... We sat down, our server got our drinks - tea and water. We looked at the menu, and it looked fairly good. My hubby asked what the server thought about the Bull's Sandwich - their version of a Philly Cheese Steak. Server highly recommended it, said she ate it everyday for lunch! So my hubby ordered that while I ordered the 3 app combo - Broccoli Balls that according to the menu had broccoli, cheese and bacon breaded and fried to a golden brown. That intrigued me. Also had chicken tenders and Fried Cheese. Me, I'm a sucker for fried cheese, esp. if it is fresh with a good marinara. But when it was brought out, we discovered that EVERYTHING was either from Sysco or from Sam's club. It was all processed, and the only 'fresh' thing we had were the tomatoes and lettuce on the Bulls sandwich. I could have bought the cheese sticks from the freezer section in Walmart! The marinara was ragu - NOT homemade. The tenders were obviously frozen ones although they were large in size. The broccoli balls, well, if they had bacon in them, I couldn't find it. And they were perfectly round.... just like if they were manufactured and frozen. I'm definitely thinking Sysco. It didn't taste fresh. And everything was a SALT BOMB. The sad thing is - I LIKE salt, and it was way to much for me! And my poor husband's Bull Sandwich..... it looked and tasted like Steak-ummms. It was super flat, like they slapped the poor frozen steak-ummmms on the flat top, flipped it once, cooked the other side and put it on the bun. it didn't any breathing space at all. So Uninspired. We are not complainers, unless everything is a complete disaster. So we didn't complain to either our server or the management. We ate it, but we made fun of it while we were eating it. We paid for our bill an left. On the walk back to our truck, every restaurant we pass we kept saying "we should have eaten there!" "That would have been much better" Even the sonic fast food near it would have been better. And I can't believe I even said that... but it is truth. The really SAD truth... ugggghhhh... Wow. At a loss for words at how disappointing this restaurant was. My family and myself showed up at 6pm on a Saturday and there was only a table of 2 sitting in this restaurant. Red flag number one but Hurricane Barry was coming in so we give them the Benefit of the doubt. Huge mistake. They were out of everything when we went to order. The biggest item being oysters since my husband ordered a seafood platter. He opted for extra catfish instead and he was going to split it with our toddlers. Our food finally comes to the table and my husband got FIVE fried shrimp and THREE pieces of catfish with a small crab cake. In no way is this comparable to any seafood platter served anywhere on the gulf coast. I ordered the "stuffed" shrimp. When it came I was taken back that the menu even suggested they were stuffed. The dish was served au gratin style and the stuffing was an awful mixture, which I can only describe as puréed broccoli and small bits of crab meat and bread crumbs. NOT a typical seafood stuffing. 5 barely medium sized shrimp thrown on top and stuck under the broiler. My dad ordered half a po-boy and was served a 3-4 inch po boy bread with FOUR shrimp! FOUR! We are not typically a family to complain but this was unacceptable. A manager never came to our table to check on us or to thank us for coming in or ask how they could right their wrong. We were a table of 12 so judging by the lack of customers on a weekend, we paid their light bill for the week, possibly the month. We will never be back to this restaurant and I'm really not sure how they have been open since 2009 because apparently we aren't the only patrons who feel this way! read more

My wife and I went here tonight. They opened just last week here in our home town. The same people owned a restaurant here in town prior to hurricane Katrina and have just now rebuilt in a new location. We started with broccoli balls (****) for our app and then shared their traditional Bernie's steak sandwich (*****). I'm sure we will be going often so I will be updating as we go. I will be trying their smoked tuna dip which is very good at their Bernie's location and I saw a combo of cup of gumbo with 1/2 po-boy of your choice on the menu. Didn't mean to slight the service, our server was very attentive and friendly. So glad to see them open and more new places under construction. read more

I should have read more of this thread. I'm in Long Beach on vacation and was looking for a place to eat. It's gets one star because my server was awesome and the catfish poboy is decent, nice breading and a good bun. So I read about the broccoli balls. I love cheese. I love broccoli. I love broccoli and cheese. You add fried? Oh wow, I can't wait. They were disgusting. They tasted like they had been fried a few times to reheat already fried items. I tried to eat one and I didn't like it. Fine, no prob, every mom and pop is a gamble. The manager had a problem with that and came over and I was berated and told that I was the only person that had EVER sent them back and that he certainly wasn't going to take them off my ticket. When we went here they were out if 1/2 the items on there menu. The house salad is just iceberg lettuce topped with dressing. Our fried appetizer had a crust so hard it almost created an abrasion on the roof of my mouth. My husband said his food wasn't very warm. A two star restaurant wrapped around the blanket of a four star. Bulls sits appropriately kitty~corner across from the equally below average library equivalent of this restaurant. Except in Bulls' case the actual food tastes like it's from the sixties instead of the place looking like it's from the sixties like the library across the street. In any case, I had high expectations for this relatively new dining spot. Feeling ambitious and having been hankering for a steak for the past few days, I immediately settled for the ribeye medium rare with a mess of mushrooms on top, a house vinaigrette~topped salad, and potato salad on the side. The house salad was average, I should have listened to our fine server's suggestion and tried their homemade ranch instead of the very commercial~tasting vinaigrette. The entrees came out quickly enough since we were the only ones sitting outside on their front patio area halfway between the lunch and dinner crowds. Red lights began to flash in my mind as I stared down at the meal laid before me. The potato salad. Oh the poor potato salad! It was heaped on a side plate as if it had been scooped out of a large vat of store~bought potato salad (which it probably was). It had the artificial yellow coloring and taste of NON HOMEMADE potato salad. This is a 'make it or break it' situation with me for restaurants presuming to have the air of a quality, independent restaurant. If I wanted store~bought potato salad I would have gone to Winn Dixie and bought it myself. And now the steak. The cook forgot to add the mushrooms to my steak, since he was too busy lighting up the bug candles fortifying the outdoor patio area. I should have forgotten all about the mushrooms. I have never had more slimy mushrooms that weren't out of a can (perhaps these were?). They were thin, oily, anemic slices and I made the fool's mistake of happily dumping them on top of my steak before trying them first. The ribeye itself was fine. Cooked to order. That steak was the only reason I didn't give this den of deception a one star rating. If I ever dare to venture into Bulls again, I will take a cue from my coworker and stick to the gumbo and a grilled sandwich. read more

Love Bull's. Great location with a pretty covered patio where you can watch the people and cars on Jeff Davis. Best smoked tuna dip ever! My mother had a burger and they added grilled onions (not on the menu but they happily accommodated her request). Blackened chicken Caesar was a little salty for my taste (next time I'll do grilled) but dressing was good and thank goodness it was drowning in it. Recommend! read more

Being a guy that eats out a lot I've had bad experiences, it happens. Here's why this sucked more than most. I brought a client to Bull's to discuss their accounts and see how we could help them save some money. The waitress approached us and seemed to be upset, she was visibly annoyed and took our drink order while walking away. 2. The drinks came and she asked if we had any questions. My client asked about a hamburger, then ordered it. I ordered a West Indies salad. 3. The burger came with a bun, unlike my customer requested. When she questioned the server, the lady said, I told you that, you wasn't paying attention. 4. My salad came and the seafood smelled rotten. I was told that's how crab smells. I don't have to be talked to like an idiot in any part of my life and won't be going back. read more

Having gone to Bull's quite a few times since my initial review, I thought it was time for an update. Though I feel kind of bad because I wanted to talk to John, the manager, before I slammed them in a review I did not have the opportunity. The gist is this: this restaurant has done a complete one 180 my initial visit. The food is not nearly as good, and I initially thought it was just a fluke, it seems to be the new norm. The French onion soup now uses a weird creamy cheese along with the Swiss cheese to cover and it melts into the soup creating a weird amalgam of oddness. The steaks are still pretty good but have drastically changed since my initial visit to where the joy of each bite I used to expect is completely gone. Service is hit or miss but on a brighter note the decoration and ambience have remained the same. In the end, the price of everything considering that the quality has dropped, no longer justifies me going there. As much as I love to support local businesses I feel it will be a very long time before I return to Bull's. read more

I like candlelight and privacy which this place does not have, but other than that, I was very satisfied with the outstanding service and food. I ordered filet steak 8oz , with a side of shrimp and crabmeat sauce. They were were cooked perfectly for me. They were cooked at the right temperature, taste and consistency. The wait staff was very nice and prompt with the check thing at the end (you know what I mean, ask for the check, wait, give them your card , wait) . We went for a high school reunion, so seeing everyone was a good reason to be there. However, had I known how disappointing the meal would be, I would have eaten elsewhere and simply had a soda or water while I was there. It was not worth the price we paid. In addition, the group was seated in a room that was so crowded that once you were seated, it was nearly impossible to move or walk around to visit with others. My fiancé` ordered the stuffed mushrooms for an appetizer and when it was brought out, it smelled like old, dead shrimp. Not very appetizing. However, I ventured a small bite to see if it tasted as bad as it smelled and it was ok-but that's it-just ok. I had the half oyster po-boy and small cup of gumbo with steamed vegetables. The po-boy had no sauce of any type, so I used the house tarter sauce to dress it. The vegetables were bland with no flavor whatsoever. In addition, the gumbo was pretty flavorless as well. My fiancé` ordered the shrimp etoufee with a side salad and steamed vegetables. The etoufee was served over a bed of rice that was so undercooked it was hard. The etoufee itself was ok "but nothing to brag about." My fiancé` hates any white sauces of any kind and had asked for Italian dressing on his side salad. The waitress brought out a salad covered in a white dressing which turned out to be ranch. She had to go back and get the correct order. All in all, I would not have gone had it not been for the reunion and I would not waste my money to return there. Please don't beat me up if this is your favorite place. We've been going to Bulls for 2 years. We always enjoyed our visits. Even when the service lacked. The food was enjoyable, so we came back. However, we will not ever return after our visit tonight. It was bad. We ordered the firecracker shrimp. I found an big piece of bread mixed in with the lettuce garnish. I didn't notice it until i had taken a bite. I was really grossed out. And notified the server. She took it to the chef, she came back and said he has said it was apart of the breaking; a mediocre lazy excuse since it obviously wasn't supposed to be in the dish. I didn't finish the appetizer because I was grossed out. If a big piece of bread ended up in the lettuce, what else is mixed in? After our meal I asked to speak to the manager because we still had the shrimp on our bill. Our server went back to get him. He was apparently to busy to come and speak to the people eating in his restaurant. She went back and asked again and he wouldn't come out. It was pathetic for a manager to not do his job, especially when he knew a table was disappointed with their dining experience. No wonder the restaurant is almost always empty when we go there. We won't ever be back. I refuse to support a local business that doesn't see their customers as a priority. read more

I started with an order of the smoked tuna dip. It's a must try if you are visiting Bull's. I just got the burger because I filled up on the appetizers, but what I did eat of my burger was great. It was cooked just how I like it. Usually places that fry a bunch of fish and oysters every thing that comes out the fryer taste like fish and oysters but not this time. It tasted like they use fresh oil to fry their food in which is a big plus in my book. The prices are reasonable and the service is great. So I would have to say THIS IS A MUST VISIT restaurant in our little humble town. read more

Me & my friends had been going here for a long time. We had reserved for our Christmas dinner party we had done there every year. They waited until we were seated to say that they changed the menu to a limited one without telling us prior. It was too last minute to change plans so we were pretty much stuck with what they offered. Everyone was very dissappointed! We all had a regular dish we each loved for that night there. The guys always ordered steaks. They said No to steaks & No mahi! When we went to leave we were asked how it was and when we said y'all should have told us about the changes, especially since they knew my friend personally. The wife/owner said well you should have just left then! :o Then after we all left fb reviews she privately msged the friend's gf and called her a jerk! Horrible business practice. They had 3 chances to inform one of us of the changes! None of us will return. Later through personal fb reviews we heard from other locals they were not surprised. This happens alot! This place is absolutely amazing. The staff provides excellent customer service. The food is very hot and fresh. It was delivered quickly but but was cooked with care. The flavor of the crab au gratin was something you would find in a downtown New Orleans from scratch kitchen. This is a great little "locals" place in Long Beach. Beware. Don't be fooled by the fancy building paid for by Katrina insurance and disaster relief money. The true disaster is the food. The food is not even premium Sysco food. EVERYTHING is out if a box or a bucket. The condiments that are put on your table are NOT fresh and reused everyday and only changes when it runs out. Gross. Your $26 dollar steak will be seasoned with store bought Lowrys season salt and cooked by whoever is hanging by the grill. The famous "tuna dip" is scooped with an ice cream scoop and "decorated" to the tune of $12. It's tuna salad you can make at home for 99 cents. Your sister Schubert bread is warmed in a microwave and handled by everyone and occasionally dropped on the floor. No worries they have a two second rule. There is NOTHING original about this place. Your premium dish Trout Long Beach is prepared days in advance on a plate and simply warmed up when ordered, on the same plate. Don't forget to check your napkins a lot have stains and mildew from being taken to the laundromat rather than professionally cleaned. The owner is amazingly narcissistic and his mammoth wife follows suit by commenting on how ridiculous customers are when they complain and will do anything NOT to comp your meal. They do have a lot of regulars, but most of those think a fancy night out is a $15 meal. If that's your thing this is your place. Inevidibly you'll make the mistake of trying it once but that's all it will take. Save your money. read more

October 3, 2014 was my first visit to this fabulous place but it will NOT be my last. My best friend's son was getting married October 4 and she chose Bull's for the rehearsal dinner. The owner was at the front door to greet our party as we gathered on the sidewalk. The wait staff was outstanding. They are masters of weaving through a rowdy crowd without dropping a plate or spilling a drink and always with a smile. I can't speak for everything on the menu as I ordered the steak. Visited bulls tonight. First time back in about a year. This will be our last time visiting this restaurant. I ordered the trout long beach. First bite and the fish was terrible. The sauce on top of the fish was not good to be nice. I was disappointed in how the food quality has gone down hill. The server was good and felt bad about the quality of the food but he is just the server, can't blame him. Left and went to Steve's Marina to finish out dinner.
