I was here a couple weeks ago when a table of 6 adults shouted at and berated a small child to tears at another table. Things only got worse when the parents approached and the mother walked away from the 6 adults in tears. I don't know if management exists at this place, but it was painfully absent this evening. No management approached either table to control the situation and their disrespectful behavior and chastising of a child ruined the atmosphere for many people. We stay close by so we come here at least twice a summer and every year I'm thoroughly disappointed in myself for not protesting returning more. Dinner always takes over 2 hours even if you only order appetizers and beers and I've never not had at least 20% of the tables' orders messed up or delayed. Further I'm really aggravated that they didn't have enough umbrellas for the outside table and even though we sat in the yard first we were left to eat in the rain. Our family has been coming to Bum Rogers Crabhouse forever! However, I missed the last 2 summers, not due to Covid, but a spinal cord injury that after 1+ years in a nursing home, left me in a wheelchair. My son took me to the shore this past beautiful September weekend. I was so excited to get some good seafood! But it was not to be. First off, we went early at 12:30 for lunch and asked the hostess if restrooms were accessible by wheelchair. With only two other tables occupied (65+) outside she said yes. However, as patrons came in and took seats, absolutely were not accessible. We started w/ fried calamari appetizer: had better, had worse. Thai chili dipping sauce very good. I was craving a good crab cake. It's a crabhouse (?). I ordered the appetizer at $18.99 (beware:older menus on line). no roll or fries as the sandwich version. While the crab cake was actual crabmeat, it was very finely shredded (like from a can from a grocery counter) and not one lump of meat. Then again, the menu did not claim it to be lump crabmeat. The disappointment was the taste, or rather, lack of taste. Biting into it blindfolded I would not have guessed crab cake. But, it wasn't a bad taste, just no taste. The remoulade sauce was good (but all I tasted). I had asked the server how the crab cake was, but she had no clue. If you are a crab cake lover, skip it for the price. For the record, it was filling. My son was in the mood for a burger, which was good. The server asked what kind of cheese, not mentioning $1.99 extra. Not a deal breaker, just the principle. He did take 1/2 home, as he was not enjoying it due to the flock of flies landing on the food. Can't blame venue for flies while eating outside at the shore in summer, he's just not a beach person. One glass of wine, one Coke, one appetizer, one burger and one appetizer for a meal, plus tip. $70.00, pretty steep for a mediocre lunch. But that seems to be the norm post Covid. I have been going here for years. Always go during happy hour, always have the same bartenders Joel and Jackie. Last year during Coronavirus I ordered take out a few times and paid cash even though I have over $300 in gift cards because I wanted to support the local restaurants. I went there yesterday for the first time since Coronavirus. Bartender Jackie greats me as always and I order what I normally order Clams Casino and shrimp Espanol. She doesn't tell me that there is no more happy hour menu even though she knows that's what I always go for. When I ask for the bill it ends up being $45 when in the past it was less than 20. I said what's going on and she says oh there's no more happy hour. Well you know that's why I always come here shouldn't you have given me a heads-up when I place the same order as always. Ordered the Cod Fish Tacos, $14.99. The one piece of cod looked and tasted like it was a frozen fish stick. Each taco had one small piece of cod and a ton of slaw. Ordered a gin and tonic and was handed a glass of clear liquid and asked to taste it. It tasted like Jersey tap water. The barkeep informed me that many people complained about the tonic. Needless to say I didn't get a gin and tonic. I've been going to Bum Rogers for 20+ years. I loved their Happy Hour and their food and drinks. They don't have a Happy Hour anymore and based on my last experience I probably won't be coming back. read more

Have been going to Bums many years and are locals. Sadly, we had to report there was not a drop of soap to wash hands in any bathroom. We all wondered how the food preparers, bartenders etc, all washed their hands all day before serving our food? I am so disgusted and disappointed, none of us will return. Just gross. read more

It's bad business to advertise happy hour till 6 BUT ...on this day you must order by 530 and on that day you must order by 550. So where does the 6 come in? I'm so confused. Just have happy hour till 530 and on the "special days" you can order till 550 make me feel special. We planned on having a couple drink and dinner but that really put a bad taste in our mouths so we left. Where I come from in America happy hour till 6 means you ORDER BEFORE 6. Was down for the day at Island state park with my mom and daughter and wanted to get seafood when we were done at the beach today. Mainly fried shrimp. We saw this place driving in so we said we will got there after. We got there around 2pm and was not busy in the dining area but we had a very nice server who came over right away. I saw they had a fried shrimp platter and ordered it. When the meals came out they were plentiful with fries, corn and cole slaw. But the shrimp was not very good. It wasn't really hot and tasted like it had too much breading. I didn't say anything because I was hungry and the sides I enjoyed. My mom had the flounder platter and wasn't thrilled but my daughter enjoyed her fires. This spot seems like a bit of a hidden treasure at the shore. Awesome food, great atmosphere. They have a dining area if you want to sit and eat, a bar of you want some drinks and an out door patio for summer time!! Super cool bar. The food was excellent. The grilled chicken sandwich was cooked well and the fries were what you'd expect from a place like this. My friend got some bbq boneless wings and said there were really good, I would definitely try them! Definitely a place I would recommend and one I will be going back to. Decided to stop into Bum Rogers today to grab a sandwich to go before heading into IBSP to spend a couple of hours. I live locally and don't really remember having been to BR in years, if ever. Anyway, ordered a fried fish sandwich.....flounder, I think she said it was. Got to my car and looked at it. It consisted of a piece of fried fish about 6" long and as thin as a slice of cardboard in between two dry, thick pieces of Italian bread with a thin slice of mushy tomato slapped on top. That's it. We're local but don't tend to visit Bums as much in the summer. We last visited on a Friday for an impromptu date night. We had the best time! A few drinks, excellent service from everyone at the bar and live music. We ordered the old bay/butter chilled shrimp and buffalo rock shrimp off of the specials menu. They were both so good and portions so plentiful, we had to stop there, so full! Then come to find out from friends that dogs are now allowed in the backyard and have a special menu. We're in! As for those who complain...the shore is not for 5-star dining, it's for the beach experience; cold drinks and fried food, sandy floors, sunburns, people watching, music and atmosphere. Garlic crabs at Bum Rogers We dined at Bum Rogers on April 21 2018. We arrived around 6:30. A party of 5, 4 adults and 1 toddler. We were told wait of 30 - 45 minutes and were handed a buzzer. We went to the bar and ordered drinks. No sooner that we got our drinks my husband had secured us a table near the door, perfect for a quick exit when the toddler needed a break. Ana waited on us. She was quick and VERY efficient. She made sure to enter the toddlers meal before even our appetizers and expedited its delivery . We started with steamer clams. This was a very generous serving that were delicious. We also ordered a dozen oysters. The oysters were fresh and delicious. We also ordered a crab cake and it was quite good. #The toddlers entrée arrived before the appetizers. It was a nice size breaded flounder with fries fresh hot and delicious, would make a tasty light entrée for an adult. 3 of us had the garlic crabs. They were served in a steamer pot and were really excellent. Loots of large crabs, I wished I counted them but quickly devoured them. The other 2 crab eaters were slower and we were never rushed and ANA checked on us appropriately. I have been going to Bum Rodgers since I was 12. It has really gotten excellent! read more

I recently dined in at Bum Rogers. My family and I had reservations in advance for 6:30 which we didn't wait long luckily. However, hostess told us that we only had an hour and a half to eat and finish our meals as well as contactless meals we had to scan a barcode on our phones. That really got to me. Then, portions were a bit small for the price as compared to other seafood places I have dined in at in Seaside Park.
