Just before dining at one of the neighboring restaurants, my girlfriend had noticed one establishment that caught her eye. With us traveling between Los Angeles and San Diego every month, we were always in an adventure to find some new places to check off on our Yelp Bookmarks. With healthy eating on top of our list, my girlfriend wanted to try out Burger Lounge in Del Mar.
Located in the Flower Hill Promenade just a block east off of the I-5 Freeway exit at Via De La Valle, you will find the trendy, Burger Lounge. There is plenty of parking and there is an added parking garage. So, NO EXCUSES to not try Burger Lounge. As you walk towards Burger Lounge, you'll have two places to dine at: Patio and inside. The main dining area is a little small, but there a few tables that can fit a family. At first, I wasn't sure if I was ordering drinks or doing something else. Oh right, I was ordering food.
At our last visit in the area, my girlfriend took a Burger Lounge menu. I was already intrigued with their burgers. Normally, I would choose a salad at healthy burger locations. Instead, I had my set my heart on a certain burger. If Burger Lounge had BBQ Chicken Salad, Burger Lounge will be PERFECT! Before we ordered, my girlfriend noticed a glass case of....**Drum Roll Please**: "Hostess Style" Lounge Dongs. Of course, she had to try it out. My girlfriend ordered the Turkey Burger ($7.95) with a side of French Fries ($3.49) and a homemade fountain drink of Shirley Temple ($2.49). I ordered the Organic Quinoa Veggie Burger ($7.95) with Onion Rings ($4.49). Of course, she ordered "Hostess Style" Lounge Dongs ($2.95).
The wait for our order would be about 10-15 minutes. As we sat down, I noticed that the tables were very smooth. I am not sure if it was marble or some sort of hybrid glass-marble. I loved the table. A staff member brought us our food and the food was presented in its highest class as it could be. My Organic Quinoa Veggie Burger looked so delicious that I know that before I could eat it, I knew it was going to disappear before my eyes. The Onion Rings were served in a little paper bag. If Onion Rings had their own bag, it would look like this. Standing Tall!.
I took one bite of the Organic Quinoa Veggie Burger and it was heaven's delight. You can taste right away the the quinoa. As you take your first bite, you'll notice that the interior of the patty is green. It was crunchy and delicious. I believe it may have been the zucchini and rice that was mushed in together. With the white cheese and grilled onions, both melting and sizzling in the same burger. Sometimes I wonder what other healthy burgers I have been missing in my life. As for my girlfriend's Turkey Burger, I did have a concern with her order. She noticed pink liquid oozing out of her Turkey Burger. We weren't sure if it was blood. We notified the staff and told us that it was natural. I am not so sure of it. They told her it was cooked well-done. I do hope they were correct.
At the end, the staff brought over the "Hostess Style" Lounge Dongs. I thought it was going to be served just as is. I thought wrong, It would be served masterfully on a dish with whip cream. Say what?! Perhaps, I might do that at home some day. I am not sure if it was homemade, but it sure was delicious. My girlfriend loved it and I enjoyed the whip cream. Actually, on second thought, I will try it at home soon. They made something simple so marvelously GRAND!
My girlfriend found a great place and I love her for it. I haven't had burgers in a long time, but if I did, it would be just like how Burger Lounge serves it. If only the big chains could just follow suit. Quinoa Burgers...Who knew that it could be that delicious. I think I saved a lot of chickens by devouring this grain. So...looking forward to coming back.
