Really liked the concept of picking sushi piece by piece instead of committing to a full roll. Fun idea if you want to try a variety of different items or dining solo. That said, the taste was just average. None of the sushi pieces stood out or tasted particularly memorable. I couldn't help but wonder how long some of the pieces had been sitting in the display case, which made the experience feel less fresh. The biggest downside was the price. The box I ordered with 14 pieces and a side of seaweed salad came out to $42, and for the quality, it just wasn't worth it. Cool concept that's worth trying once if you're curious, but I probably wouldn't come back.

I was very excited to come and try this nigiri spot! Parking is limited and metered and limited seating inside (maybe a handful of barstools). There were four mini tables outside too. You can choose from a whole array of fish- cooked or raw. There are options for rolls and nigiris. You can fill the box with as much as you want and you're charged per piece. My box was totaled $40. I love there's a water station. My favorites were the nigiri. The fish was super fresh and loved the sauce combos. I can't wait to come back!

Want delicious sushi but have time constraint? This is the place to go to. They had many options ready for you. From inari, to nigiri, and to special rolls, they all were flavorful. I wish it was more fresh but it was still tasty. I think the rice consistency couldve been better but that might be a personal preference. The strawberry cream sando was not worth. The cream was overpowering and not as much strawberry flavor I was hoping for.

As someone who always wants to try everything, I really enjoyed the concept of this store! They have a huge variety of nigiri, rolls, and yubu, and you can choose as many or as little as you want! Each piece is priced individually and differently. I really enjoyed the salmon and yellowtail options! It is a little pricey considering it's basically fast food though. There isn't much seating inside. But service is quick :)

Saw Buri Buri right when we pulled up nearby for paid street parking. It's a great place to get some nigiri, sushi, etc. for a alight snack, since filling up the entire tray box for a filling lunch is definitely going to cost you a pretty penny. Despite this, the quality, freshness, and uniqueness of the sushi offered here and the fact that you're at Burlingame Coat Factory neighborhood makes sense. There's super limited counter seating inside, but you get complimentary water and tea and you can grab soy sauce, wasabi, and ginger. You can sort of sit outside on the bench, but it's super windy, so this is probably more of a take out place than anything. If you're not feeling sushi rolls or nigiri, you can also get some pre-made fridge sandos here (I saw egg salad during our visit), various bentos with potato salad and veggies with a weekly chef special or with classics like unagi or pork katsu, or you can get their homemade soup of the day. For our order, we got the: saba (mackerel), pressed spicy tuna sushi, maguro tuna, sea bream, hamachi (yellowtail), and Sanma fish. I had to get at least one pressed sushi since it's not offered very often and it's cube shape is pretty unique and cute. It's not bad. Had some bonito flakes and sliced jalapeno on it for a kick. I don't usually see sanma fish either, which is nice. All the fish was fresh and had a good texture to it. Altogether this was over $20 and it barely filled up a row for the box, so keep that in mind so you don't accidentally build a $100+ box. Not bad, service was helpful in answering our questions and keeping everything stocked.

Omg- I'm going to fill up my while small box! Hee

First of all being Hapa/Japanese and Spanish and being allergic to mono sudden glycinate/MSG freaking sucks!!! Not only am I allergic to my own cultural food, but I'm allergic to MSG which is always in soy sauce unless the location uses tamari. I heard about this place on Instagram and I was so excited and thrilled to see I could order slices of individual sushi pieces and make up my own personal bento box. I was thrilled!! My Foodie Friend and I had to drive 40 minutes away to come visit this enchanting shop and we were so excited!! This particular day it was freezing cold over there so we didn't order any drinks, but they looked delicious! Both servers were very patient as I asked 9 million questions since I couldn't have any of the sushi rolls that had soy sauce in them, and the Chef even came out to double check a couple items! Everything was delicious and had such great flavor and freshness!! Ambience was very cute and quaint like you were in a side street of Japan and all the tables were actually filled outside so we were lucky to get a seat inside since we were freezing cold!! I will definitely come back here again and again!! I want to try one of their strawberry cream, cheese sandwiches! And definitely their Matcha!!

This place struck me as more of a takeout spot or sushi snack box pickup than a restaurant, but the quality of the ingredients was solid. I definitely preferred the nigiri over the rolls. Some of our favorite bites were the salmon aburi, crispy tuna rice, and scallop inari. Everything was fresh and nicely prepared. It's definitely a place that leans into aesthetics, but it's a fun experience if you like being able to pick.

    Tiffany S.

Finally tried out this spot where you can pick and choose which roll or nigiri they even have some inari pouches! I'd say my only dislike was the scallop was dry like it was way too overcooked. But overall my picks were very good!!

I love this place! Great concept for sushi especially if you want to try a variety of sushi rolls without paying $20+ for one roll! I came here twice so far and the sushi is delicious! The sashimi are fresh! You can order a large or small box. I opted for a small box which fits at least nine pieces with two of them bring nigiri(s). The way it works is they charge per piece of sushi depending on what style you pick. Service is quick as everything is already displaced in front. There are limited seatings from inside and outside. They also have water and tea available for customers, which makes it feel more homey! I work very close by so I am sure I will become a regular here. Definitely will be back to try their miso carbonara udon next time! Note: They offer healthcare workers an automatic discount! Super sweet!

I love this place and have stopped by a few times whenever I'm in the area. I really enjoy the assorted sushi selection and the variety they offer. You can pick exactly what you want and how many pieces, then have everything packed into a bento box, which is such a great way to try a little bit of everything. It's definitely a busy spot, and they also offer plenty of non-sushi options like udon bowls, sandwiches, and other items. One thing to keep in mind is that it can get pricey, so it's a good idea to ask about pricing before getting carried away -- otherwise, you might end up with a pretty hefty box! Parking is tricky, you need to park at meter parking, and or close by. That said, the quality and taste are excellent. The shiitake mushroom roll, tuna rolls, and salmon rolls are fantastic. Definitely worth trying!

Stopped by Buri Buri for a quick bite with my cousin. It was our first time here, and the gentleman helping us was patient while we took a look at all the options they have a great variety to choose from, which made it a little hard to decide in the best way. I really liked their concept of building your own sushi boxes, where you can mix and match different items and the prices are clearly listed on the side, which makes it super easy to customize based on your budget and appetite. I ended up getting a bunch of different options, and while some of the sushi tasted really fresh, a couple pieces felt a bit on the stale side. They also have a small seating area in the front that's nice for a quick stop, though it can get pretty packed. Overall, I'd probably give it another try because when the sushi is fresh, it really hits, but it feels a little inconsistent depending on what you pick.

    Nessa R.

I was actually quite surprised with the quality of the sushi here. I got a whole variety of pieces and I really feel like you can't go wrong with what you choose here. The rolls seemed fresh and the inari were delicious. I also got the chicken teriyaki bento and this milky drink. The value was worth it in my opinion. I liked not having to order a whole role so I can sample many different ones. My kids loved the chicken teriyaki. It looked tender and nicely cooked and the little lotus chips, edamame, tomatoes, and other sides were a nice touch. The parking situation on a Friday afternoon was not ideal, but we eventually found parking on the next street over

I went on an early afternoon, and needed a quick grab and go lunch. The transaction went by so fast, just name what I wanted, pay, and leave. I was actually so excited to try this place, but why was it soo mid?!? It's a super cool concept with a bento of sushi with whatever roll or nigiri you want. Nothing about it is telling me to go back and try this place again :( The prices were expensive, if you're not smart about it you'll be shocked with what you pay for. Service was fast, the prices are either in front of the sushis itself or on the sides. We'll see if I ever make my way back.

If you plan on visiting during the weekend, expect a wait. The line can get pretty long, but after eating here multiple times, I can confidently say it is worth every minute. Some restaurants are all hype, but Curry Hyuga earns every bit of the praise it receives. The katsu is consistently excellent. Whether you order the chicken or the pork, the breading is always perfectly crisp while the meat stays incredibly juicy and tender. That level of consistency is something I really appreciate because every visit has been just as good as the last. The curry is what keeps me coming back. It is rich, comforting, and packed with layers of flavor. Every bite has a depth and complexity that makes it stand out from your typical Japanese curry. It is the kind of meal that leaves you thinking about it long after you have finished. One thing I also really enjoy is the atmosphere. The restaurant strikes a great balance between being lively and comfortable. There is enough energy in the room that it feels welcoming and full of life, but it is still quiet enough to have an easy conversation without having to raise your voice. I often find myself stopping in for a solo meal when I am in the area, and it is the perfect place to enjoy a peaceful lunch or dinner by myself. At the same time, it works just as well when I bring friends and family. It is one of those rare restaurants that feels right no matter who you are dining with. The staff has also been nothing but friendly and welcoming every time I have visited. Even when the restaurant is packed, they stay attentive and keep things moving with a smile. If you have been debating whether to wait in line, take this as your sign. Curry Hyuga earned its place among the Top 100 Restaurants in the country for a reason, and it continues to prove why with every visit. I will happily keep coming back.

We've…read moretraveled quite a bit and tried sushi in many different cities, including around the Los Angeles area where we live and have our favorite spots. So when we visit a sushi restaurant, we tend to evaluate everything as a whole -- price, quality, service, and of course the flavors. For dinner we ordered the Mango Tuna Roll (which was our first time trying a mango-style sushi roll), the 8-piece Omakase Nigiri, a Double Toro Roll, two pieces of Otoro, and a hot sake. With a 20% tip included, the total for the two of us came to $163.50, which honestly falls within the average range of what we usually spend for a sushi dinner like this. Normally we might pay around $120-$130 depending on the place, sometimes a little more if we add an extra item or two. The portion sizes were pretty standard. Not unusually large, but not small either -- similar to what we've experienced at many other sushi restaurants. Where this place really stood out was the depth of flavor. The quality and balance of the ingredients were excellent. At one point I actually caught myself closing my eyes just to focus on the taste, which is something I almost never do. The preparation felt very refined and the flavors were elevated, rich, and memorable. I would describe it as delicate portions with very elevated flavors. Because of that, I'm giving this place 5 out of 5 stars. This is the kind of restaurant that works perfectly for a nice dinner with your partner. It's not necessarily a place where you go wild ordering everything on the menu like at a taco spot. Instead, it's better to be thoughtful with what you choose and enjoy a few well-crafted dishes. You can easily have a special, enjoyable dinner here without going overboard. Definitely worth visiting if you're in the area and want a quality sushi experience with refined flavors. The only thing I felt was missing was a small welcome miso soup. In some sushi restaurants we've visited, they serve a tiny cup of miso with a couple pieces of tofu as a warm welcome. It's a very small gesture, but it creates a nice first impression and adds a sense of hospitality to the experience. Considering the quality and pricing of the menu here, a simple welcome miso soup would fit perfectly with the overall dining experience.
