    Combo Fried Platter

This place is small and cozy, very great customer services and also great food. We got the signature tea leaf salad, Very refreshing and delicious. We also got the tamarin fish with coconut rice, chicken plate combo and garlic rice noddle. Everything is delicious and nothing to complain.

Very homey and cute restaurant. The tea leaf salad had a lot more peanuts than vegetables. It was crunchy and refreshing. The garlic noodles were chewy and paired well with the spicy sauce that came on the side. String beans were pretty standard. The golden tofu curry had an interesting texture that was more similar to paneer, but the flavor was nicely light and savory. The portions were all on the smaller side. There was no wait for a Sunday dinner. The staff was very friendly, but service was a bit slow.

My guy was craving Burmese food, so I yelped it. Three of us came here for a weekday lunch. Interiors are brightly painted and nicely decorated with umbrellas on the ceiling. ***OUR PICKS*** SIGNATURE TEA LEAF SALAD ~ it was pre mixed. Presentation isn't as nice when it's already mixed. This isn't as flavorful as others I've had. It tasted like a cabbage slaw with nuts. 3.5/5 ONG NOH KAU SWEL ~ COCONUT NOODLE SOUP ~ I didn't try this but our friend ordered this and said it was good. Noodles had good texture and flavor was on point. But the soup looked goopy and more saucy than a soup. 3.8/5 GARLIC CHICKEN COMBO ~ This just tasted like yellow curry chicken. And the chicken was dry because they used white breast meat. Vegetables tasted like they were frozen. The only good thing on the plate was their coconut rice. It was fluffy and had a nice coconut flavor. 3.5/5 BEEF LEMONGRASS COMBO ~ the beef was pretty salty, so you need to eat the rice with this. Vegetables were the same frozen kind. And the rice was the best part. 3.5/5 The lunch combos were on a melamine divided plate, which brought me to my cafeteria years. Just that those plates were paper. Beautiful presentation helps the appetite. This missed the mark. The only thing that was good was the coconut rice, but that's a side dish and shouldn't be the highlight of your meal. Maybe stay clear from the lunch combos and you might have a better meal. And it's not like the combos cost less than the other entrees. So that was disappointing. We were the only ones there. Even after we finished our lunch, no one stopped by or even come for take out. Maybe customers only come during the evenings or weekends? Sadly, while we were there, it was deserted.

On a Sunday around noon, this place was surprisingly empty--we actually just stumbled upon it while we were in the area for a farmers market that ended up being way too packed. Looking for something quieter, we came across Burmese Kitchen, and I'm so glad we did. We ordered the chicken masala, which was packed with flavor and came in a really generous portion. The biryani rice was also delicious and paired perfectly with everything. I also tried the coconut chicken soup, which was rich, comforting, and full of great flavor. But the standout for me was the signature vegetarian tea leaf salad. It's not your typical leafy green salad--it's unique, flavorful, and honestly one of the most interesting dishes I've tried. I would definitely go back just for that. We also had a great experience with Yumi, the owner's niece, who was incredibly polite and helpful, especially since it was our first time trying Burmese food. If you're in the area and looking for something flavorful and different, I'd definitely recommend stopping by.

I came to this restaurant with my partner and his friend, after I received the recommendation from a friend of mine! The food here is very, very good and flavorful, and the ambiance is very nice! I love all the decorations! The service was good, though a little slow as the restaurant was busy. However, the servers were really sweet and wonderful! I ordered the garlic rice noodle with shrimp, and it was very tasty! I love the flavors, and the shrimp was quite fresh! My partner and his friends also really enjoyed their respective meals: they said the portions were large and the curry was flavorful! Overall, I would definitely recommend this place to others, and would come back myself! :)

samosa soup: soup is delivered separately. the samosas and falafel-like fried dumplings were so good!

I've ordered delivery once and dined inside Burmese Kitchen once. For delivery we got the tea leaf salad. It has a lot of cabbage like they often traditionally do. I tend to like an untraditional cabbage and lettuce mix personally but it was still enjoyable. The samosa soup looked unassuming. I appreciated that they separated the samosas and falafel looking dumplings from the soup. I baked up the samosas and "falafel" briefly at home in the toaster oven so they'd be crispy again, I was super impressed that they were both very nicely spiced and flavorful. For dine in, we ordered a curry with rice, tea salad, and a pea (?) salad. Omg, the pea salad was so good. It was delicious, nutty, and full of crunchy texture. I need to go back and try all their salads.

Golden Tofu Curry and Coconut Rice

This place never misses. Every time I come here, I leave wondering why I don't eat here more often (though, to be fair, I'm already here pretty often since it's in my neighborhood). This time, I got the Chin Baung Hin Yay (fish & sour leaf soup), and it was everything I wanted--light but rich, deeply flavorful, and just incredibly balanced. The fish was melt-in-your-mouth soft, the broth had this perfect tang, and every spoonful just hit. And their coconut rice? Unreal. Soft, fragrant, slightly sweet--just perfect with my favorite curry here, the Golden Tofu Curry. The tofu is ridiculously soft, the sauce is packed with flavor, and the whole thing is just comforting in the best way. The service? Always top-notch. The vibes? Perfectly cozy and welcoming, with just the right amount of energy. I've been here a few times now, tried their tea leaf salad and a bunch of curries, and every single time, I'm blown away. If you haven't been here yet, fix that immediately!

I'd heard that there was a lot of good Burmese food in SF and saw great reviews for Burmese kitchen. We were in the area so it was the perfect opportunity to check it out. We were there on a Saturday evening and were able to walk right in. Later, a huge group walked in for a birthday too and they were super quick to accommodate them. I've never really had Burmese food so we asked for recs and then ordered by vibes. The tea leaf salad was my favorite. Super aromatic, great texture, in comparison to what I have had before, it's most similar to a thai papaya salad but i think this tops papaya salad (which I also really like!) in my books. The Amel thar dan pauk is a pilaf situation. Also super fragrant, comforting, and while there wasn't too much meat, what was there was delicious. The only thing we got that didn't hit for me was the pork with pickled mango. I think it's a me thing more so than a fault of the dish. I just didn't know what to expect but the mango was just too sour for me and the flavor profile just isn't something I'm used to, maybe more of an acquired taste.

Interior shot just as the restaurant opened.

First time visiting the restaurant. Nice menu with Burmese classics and vegetarian choices. The fish and sour leaves soup is really good. Tea leave salad and the vegetarian garlic noodles is delicious.

legendary sour leaf & catfish soup with shredded bamboo shoot
    Niketa R.

We came from the east bay specifically to taste the sour leaf and catfish soup, and it did not disappoint!! Top 3 best soups of my life, sooooo yummy. The lime juice is also a must-order, freshly squeezed with little bursts of pulp and lightly salted in a tall glass full of ice. Already looking forward to coming back with more friends so they can taste these amazing flavors too!

    Garlic Noodles Coconut Rice

The restaurant is very cute and staff are so friendly! I have a hard time giving it a 3 for these reasons, but we are big fans of Burmese food and we were disappointed. We ordered 2 appetizers and 2 mains and they were all more on the bland side, not the spices and vibrant flavor with Burmese dishes. It was all good, but more average taste. The staff were great, but we were underwhelmed with the food.

There are so many amazing dishes but I would really recommend coming with a group and experiencing this spot family style. That's the way to do it. Parking can be tough so it's not a bad idea to take alternative transit options. Also this spot can be super packed at popular dinner and lunch hours like on the weekend. For the salads I highly recommend the tea leaf salad especially if you've never had it before. It's quite unique. The mango salad is quite good too with the unripen mangos so it isn't super sweet. It has a zesty dressing. The rainbow salad is good but it's more like a cold noodle dish and less greens so depends on what you are looking for. The samusa soup is good! The coconut chicken soup and noodle dishes used to be my favorite thing on the menu. But now it's a little to heavy, creamy, and rich for me. I would recommend sharing this one because it's so tasty. I love their coconut rice great with any of their curries or to complement the protein dishes. The garlic noodles don't wow me but they're good and great to go with a meal. The sesame chicken is good and tangy but it is breaded chicken. So depends on if you are up for that. The chili lamb is super good and so is the beef curry. They have a rice dish with chicken and shrimp that is good too. If you are okay with sweet things the mango chicken is good. And then they have some spicy dishes that are good if you like the spice. I don't love their green beans which is sad because I usually like this style of green beans which. They're a little spicy for my taste but maybe that's exactly what you are looking for. Burma superstar is honestly a comfort place for me at this point.

Their Burmese food is not only the most authentic in the wider Bay Area, but it is consistent, delicious, always fragrantly exciting. Check out Ching Mong Jaw, which may not appear on the menu (if online) = a mixture of pickled greens, tomatoes, bamboo, shrimp (or tofu). It is so flavorful that I eat it slowly to savor all the different flavors... and I always leave enough for a second meal; I just don't want it to end. The wait/restaurant staff are courteous, kind and helpful, if busy (because the restaurant is almost always busy). A long time ago, I admired the Burmese shirt that the waiters and hostess wore. When I worked less than three blocks away, over 40 years ago, my coworkers and I occasionally lunched here and had dinner a time or two. The restaurant was a client of my employer. Plus, a coworker was Burmese which made ordering a lot easier. Besides a dinner sometime after that with an out-of-state friend, I returned for a family style dinner for 4-5 of us. After reuniting with some friends from grammar school days, five of us found an opportune time to meet for a Friday dinner reunion here. Having a 6:15 pm reservation, I dropped the other guests off at the restaurant as I looked for parking, fortunate in finding a space kitty-corner from the restaurant. Our party of five was seated at a table next to the cash register in the rear right section. The menu is two sided on one page besides specials that our server told us about. Given the size of our group, we ordered a family style meal with the assistance of our server. I started with the Burmese iced tea (https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?userid=saJuyv784apZzH--psHZ3Q&select=YOqKQksvSOR1owQB_AVC9Q). It is very similar to the other popular Southeast Asian country's iced tea made with condensed milk. Frankly, I can't tell the difference. For our meal, we shared the following, family style: Starters a. Samusa, chicken (https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?userid=saJuyv784apZzH--psHZ3Q&select=KPy5vCVpV1-o07ZRr9b02w) - A mix of grounded curried chicken and potatoes. b. Tea leaf salad (https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?userid=saJuyv784apZzH--psHZ3Q&select=Rhym78L97Qsu5O_z2GrpDA) - Salad prepared with imported Burmese tea leaves, toasted with lentil seeds, grounded shrimp, fried garlic, green pepper, sesame seeds, peanuts, and dressing (grounded shrimp and peanuts were kept separate due to a diner's allergies). One of their signature dishes, the mix of ingredients meshed well together. Here's what it looks after tossing (https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?userid=saJuyv784apZzH--psHZ3Q&select=eOxyeZVzAEg7l9Rn-Z9MSw). Since I was okay with the segregated ingredients, I added them to my plate (https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?userid=saJuyv784apZzH--psHZ3Q&select=yupuArsIAGajITrJDPZ6tA). Mains c. Chili beef (https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?userid=saJuyv784apZzH--psHZ3Q&select=qOwue_tSXqFp9d91XL5Y-Q) - One of the three specials that we tried, this was a stir fry of tender beef pieces with a variety of peppers, spicy and not. Jalapenos, red and yellow bell peppers, Szechuan peppercorns, and green onions. The flavors are bold and the beef was tender. If you are spice sensitive, do be wary of the jalapenos, peppercorns, and the peppers with seeds. d. House special lambchop (https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?userid=saJuyv784apZzH--psHZ3Q&select=vuYo_HzCnoLKQoy-S6J0Fg) - Another of the daily specials, this was an interesting presentation. The lambchops were cooked medium well, tender and nicely seasoned. There was a bed of sauteed onions and red and yellow peppers in the center as well as asparagus spears. Everyone enjoyed this since this isn't a very common protein. e. Dry pan fried green bean (https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?userid=saJuyv784apZzH--psHZ3Q&select=DfkySvWpTorA_rM1sRjZxg) - Pan fried string beans, ginger, chili sauce, and grounded shrimp (withheld do to food allergy); very clean dish and the green beans were cooked perfectly, still crunchy. f. Country chicken (https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?userid=saJuyv784apZzH--psHZ3Q&select=jrBMsj9mkMP3GhNWKXkqHg) - The third of the daily specials, this was a bone-in chicken, half I believe, that included a drumstick and thigh covered in likely a green curry sauce (wasn't described and we didn't ask since our conversation was too engaging). It came with serving of rice topped with fried garlic and pickled vegetables. I was already pretty full after the above and the noodles to come so I only had one serving. g. Mandalay special noodle (https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?userid=saJuyv784apZzH--psHZ3Q&select=9UOv1twqqT_iRFdwRRuRZg) - Burmese flat noodle with mild coconut chicken, yellow peas powder, lime juice, onion, and fried thin noodle on the top. Like the tea salad, this came to the table deconstructed and the server tossed the dish like the salad. The dining room was a little more than half full when we arrived, filled up as we dined, and about 3/4 full when we left almost two hours later. The servers (several) were responsive in removing empty plates and refilling water glasses. The outdoor dining area was also about half full when I arrived with only one table used when we left. We enjoyed our meal as the dinner organizer who lives in the neighborhood recently dined with another friend, having a nice meal too. Looking forward to returning and trying more menu items.

Quite possibly one of my favorite salads I've ever had because of all of the wonderful flavors that pair well with each other. The platha and dip that we ordered with shredded chicken in the dip was addicting! The chicken was beautifully tender and the dip was packed with the flavor! I was blown away by the nice texture of the platha as well! As for the main dishes, the ginger chili pork was cooked perfectly, and the ginger and chilis added a lovely flavor and punch to the dish. My favorite between the main dishes has to go to the chicken with fresh mint. I've never had a dish like this, and it made me speechless. The flavors were bursting out of this dish and the bold mint flavors made it even more tantalizing. Lastly, I only had the coconut rice, but it was perfectly cooked since it was nice and fluffy, and the coconut definitely shone through. I will certainly come back whenever I have the chance to come back to the city!

For the kids, we ordered the sesame chicken and plain garlic noodles, and they genuinely could not stop raving about the food between bites. My 10-year-old officially declared Burma Love her new favorite restaurant, and of course, her 5-year-old brother immediately had to confirm that he agreed. I ordered the tea leaf salad and samosa soup for myself. The samosa soup was absolutely fabulous--rich, flavorful, and so satisfying--and the tea leaf salad was lovely as well. Everything we ordered was delicious, and finding a restaurant that both I AND my kids are this excited about is always a win. We will absolutely be back. Easily a 10/10!

We did not even look at a menu, but trusted our server, Oscar, to order for us based on our food preferences and dietary restrictions. Perfect and delicious from the Tea Leaf salad (must have!) to the Mohinga soup (sooooo good), curry beef and mint tofu. Yum!!! Salut to the bartender Lamour for exceptional cocktails - especially the General Aung - smoky old-fashionish. The service was impeccable and well timed. Thank you so much to our server, Oscar!

Every appetizer and entree came in generous family-friendly sized portions, making it easy to share with our group. Highly recommend the lychee cocktail, we've tried several around the city and it's the best we've had so far. Thank you to our server Andy who was attentive, friendly, and gave amazing recommendations. Everything was yummy and we will definitely be back here to try out more!

The croquettes were ok, they were a little bland and didn't necessarily taste like braised beef. I did however really enjoyed the sauce they put on it, which was probably a Sriracha mayo. It was also on the corn. The staff were great. We were seated promptly and the waiter was attentive enough. I would definitely recommend this restaurant.

I'd heard good things about B Star, and I was able to make a dinner reservation about 20 minutes in advance. We decided to start with the staples - tea leaf salad and platha + dip - and split the laksa for our main course. I was surprised to see laksa on the menu, but we decided to give it a try since we were both in the mood for curry and noodle soup. The platha + dip came out first, and everything about this dish was perfection. The platha was thin, crispy, and oily without being overly greasy, and we both couldn't get enough of the curry sauce served on the side. I liked how the tea leaf salad was served with a generous amount and variety of toppings, although, the salad itself was overly-dressed and soggy as a result. The laksa had good flavor, and the noodles had a nice chewiness. The fried tofu added some crunch, although the shrimp could have used more flavor. While I would definitely come back to B Star just for the platha + dip alone, I would like to try some the other entrees. The cozy restaurant felt right at home in the Inner Richmond neighborhood, and the staff was friendly throughout our visit.

It was my favorite for an extremely popular dish now prominent on Irving Street near 12th Avenue, my introduction to their famous staple chicken wings. I continued to periodically get them here until they closed. Fast forward forty years and a friend invited our group here for a birthday lunch on summer Saturday at 12:30 pm. Running late from my morning errands, I arrived shortly after the meal was ordered (Forgive me for possible inaccuracies and incomplete information) since our host ordered seventeen dishes for our party of 12 to feast on family style. Here's a summary of the highlights. Favorites in no particular order: a. Chow Kway Teow (https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?userid=saJuyv784apZzH--psHZ3Q&select=OXyh4S0Zwn0zipsVbIfDRw) - flat rice noodle stir-fried with shrimp, Chinese sausage and eggs; this is a classic dish using chow fun as the base and a mix of ingredients. My favorite. b. Basil tofu (https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?userid=saJuyv784apZzH--psHZ3Q&select=yyuLG6v-DwEePR0j1kArYg) - tofu and shiitake mushroom in basil sauce; I enjoyed the ingredient mix and the sauce made everything balanced. c. Singaporean curry noodles (https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?userid=saJuyv784apZzH--psHZ3Q&select=W1xq3h8e0WW7u20WyKJB9w) - glass noodle stir fried in our special curry sauce with shredded chicken; not your typical version as it is glass (as in transparent) noodles, a more slippery texture. This is also wet and made with mushroom slices. My 2nd favorite. d. Sambal okra (https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?userid=saJuyv784apZzH--psHZ3Q&select=a5na569KcDG96eS9q_kHVg) - Wok fried okra with spicy sambal sauce; I enjoy the texture of okra though it's an acquired taste. The spice level was perfect for me, medium with a lean towards spicier. The other notable dish is the Hainan chicken rice (https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?userid=saJuyv784apZzH--psHZ3Q&select=hCAhsBqrYfSFKP1mKg7Sjg), steamed chicken served with rice cooked in broth and ginger. It came with three sauces, a special soy sauce, garlic ginger sauce, and a bright red chili sauce. It was well made though I wished the rice was more fragrant. The restaurant was empty aside from our party when I walked in at 12:45 pm for several diners came in as our meal progressed. The two young ladies who tended to our party were efficient in removing empty plates and refilling our water glasses. In reading other reviews, the chili dungeness crab seems to be a popular dish. Maybe on my next visit.

I can't judge how authentic the food is since this is my first time trying Burmese food... but it tasted really good. We ordered: - Burmese tea leaf salads (classic Burmese dish!) - Seafood cake curry with vegetables (okra) - Chin Boung Kyor - sour leaf cooked with shrimp, bamboo, and chili, and fish sauce Every dish complimented each other. We were so happy they all had a distinct taste. The tea leaf salad had a good balance of bitter aroma and sweetness from other vegetables. Topping it with the crunch from all the different nuts - it was so satisfying to eat. The Burmese seafood cake curry is on the lighter end similar to Thai curry and not creamy like the Indian curry. Every ingredient is packed with flavor. It reminded me of a laksa. The sour leaf stir fried vegetables is so unique! I've never had this flavor profile before so it was so refreshing to try. The leaf and the bamboo are soft, it almost melts in your mouth. I felt healthy after this meal. It wasn't overly greasy or heavy. All the dishes we were able to ask them to make it mild as well since my partner can't tolerate spicy food. There were street parking as well as plenty of neighborhood parking around the area. No wait time either on a Sunday evening.

Nothing feels heavy or overdressed, and the cabbage keeps the whole thing crisp from beginning to end. I don't normally get excited enough about a salad to write a review about it, but this one deserves it. Absolutely phenomenal. Order the green tea leaf salad.
