    String Bean
    Meiyi Y.

Very homey and cute restaurant. The tea leaf salad had a lot more peanuts than vegetables. It was crunchy and refreshing. The garlic noodles were chewy and paired well with the spicy sauce that came on the side. String beans were pretty standard. The golden tofu curry had an interesting texture that was more similar to paneer, but the flavor was nicely light and savory. The portions were all on the smaller side. There was no wait for a Sunday dinner. The staff was very friendly, but service was a bit slow.

My guy was craving Burmese food, so I yelped it. Three of us came here for a weekday lunch. Interiors are brightly painted and nicely decorated with umbrellas on the ceiling. ***OUR PICKS*** SIGNATURE TEA LEAF SALAD ~ it was pre mixed. Presentation isn't as nice when it's already mixed. This isn't as flavorful as others I've had. It tasted like a cabbage slaw with nuts. 3.5/5 ONG NOH KAU SWEL ~ COCONUT NOODLE SOUP ~ I didn't try this but our friend ordered this and said it was good. Noodles had good texture and flavor was on point. But the soup looked goopy and more saucy than a soup. 3.8/5 GARLIC CHICKEN COMBO ~ This just tasted like yellow curry chicken. And the chicken was dry because they used white breast meat. Vegetables tasted like they were frozen. The only good thing on the plate was their coconut rice. It was fluffy and had a nice coconut flavor. 3.5/5 BEEF LEMONGRASS COMBO ~ the beef was pretty salty, so you need to eat the rice with this. Vegetables were the same frozen kind. And the rice was the best part. 3.5/5 The lunch combos were on a melamine divided plate, which brought me to my cafeteria years. Just that those plates were paper. Beautiful presentation helps the appetite. This missed the mark. The only thing that was good was the coconut rice, but that's a side dish and shouldn't be the highlight of your meal. Maybe stay clear from the lunch combos and you might have a better meal. And it's not like the combos cost less than the other entrees. So that was disappointing. We were the only ones there. Even after we finished our lunch, no one stopped by or even come for take out. Maybe customers only come during the evenings or weekends? Sadly, while we were there, it was deserted.

I came to this restaurant with my partner and his friend, after I received the recommendation from a friend of mine! The food here is very, very good and flavorful, and the ambiance is very nice! I love all the decorations! The service was good, though a little slow as the restaurant was busy. However, the servers were really sweet and wonderful! I ordered the garlic rice noodle with shrimp, and it was very tasty! I love the flavors, and the shrimp was quite fresh! My partner and his friends also really enjoyed their respective meals: they said the portions were large and the curry was flavorful! Overall, I would definitely recommend this place to others, and would come back myself! :)

samosa soup: soup is delivered separately. the samosas and falafel-like fried dumplings were so good!

I've ordered delivery once and dined inside Burmese Kitchen once. For delivery we got the tea leaf salad. It has a lot of cabbage like they often traditionally do. I tend to like an untraditional cabbage and lettuce mix personally but it was still enjoyable. The samosa soup looked unassuming. I appreciated that they separated the samosas and falafel looking dumplings from the soup. I baked up the samosas and "falafel" briefly at home in the toaster oven so they'd be crispy again, I was super impressed that they were both very nicely spiced and flavorful. For dine in, we ordered a curry with rice, tea salad, and a pea (?) salad. Omg, the pea salad was so good. It was delicious, nutty, and full of crunchy texture. I need to go back and try all their salads.

This place never misses. Every time I come here, I leave wondering why I don't eat here more often (though, to be fair, I'm already here pretty often since it's in my neighborhood). This time, I got the Chin Baung Hin Yay (fish & sour leaf soup), and it was everything I wanted--light but rich, deeply flavorful, and just incredibly balanced. The fish was melt-in-your-mouth soft, the broth had this perfect tang, and every spoonful just hit. And their coconut rice? Unreal. Soft, fragrant, slightly sweet--just perfect with my favorite curry here, the Golden Tofu Curry. The tofu is ridiculously soft, the sauce is packed with flavor, and the whole thing is just comforting in the best way. The service? Always top-notch. The vibes? Perfectly cozy and welcoming, with just the right amount of energy. I've been here a few times now, tried their tea leaf salad and a bunch of curries, and every single time, I'm blown away. If you haven't been here yet, fix that immediately!

I'd heard that there was a lot of good Burmese food in SF and saw great reviews for Burmese kitchen. We were in the area so it was the perfect opportunity to check it out. We were there on a Saturday evening and were able to walk right in. Later, a huge group walked in for a birthday too and they were super quick to accommodate them. I've never really had Burmese food so we asked for recs and then ordered by vibes. The tea leaf salad was my favorite. Super aromatic, great texture, in comparison to what I have had before, it's most similar to a thai papaya salad but i think this tops papaya salad (which I also really like!) in my books. The Amel thar dan pauk is a pilaf situation. Also super fragrant, comforting, and while there wasn't too much meat, what was there was delicious. The only thing we got that didn't hit for me was the pork with pickled mango. I think it's a me thing more so than a fault of the dish. I just didn't know what to expect but the mango was just too sour for me and the flavor profile just isn't something I'm used to, maybe more of an acquired taste.

First time visiting the restaurant. Nice menu with Burmese classics and vegetarian choices. The fish and sour leaves soup is really good. Tea leave salad and the vegetarian garlic noodles is delicious.

We came from the east bay specifically to taste the sour leaf and catfish soup, and it did not disappoint!! Top 3 best soups of my life, sooooo yummy. The lime juice is also a must-order, freshly squeezed with little bursts of pulp and lightly salted in a tall glass full of ice. Already looking forward to coming back with more friends so they can taste these amazing flavors too!

The restaurant is very cute and staff are so friendly! I have a hard time giving it a 3 for these reasons, but we are big fans of Burmese food and we were disappointed. We ordered 2 appetizers and 2 mains and they were all more on the bland side, not the spices and vibrant flavor with Burmese dishes. It was all good, but more average taste. The staff were great, but we were underwhelmed with the food.

First time trying Burmese food and I absolutely loved it and loved this restaurant! Will definitely be visiting here again when I come back to SF!!

I've known about this restaurant for years but for some reason I kept going to Superstar, BStar, BLove. For years, I slept on this spot. Now I know what I have been missing. Burmese Kitchen is a dreamland for those who like spicy bold flavors. We ordered the falafel, chicken curry, fish curry, and biryani rice. Every single dish was distinctive and bold. We also ordered the fresh lime juice which was one of the best beverages I've ever had. It was fresh, ever so slightly sweetened and the perfect foil to the spicy food. While I didn't have a good experience with the service, the excellent food more than made up for that. I will definitely be back.

This time it was a $90 set with 2 drinks, 2 servings of rice of your choice, a trio of their salads, and 2 entrees - honestly a great deal and I think the waitstaff mentioned it's about a $150 value, which I completely believe. Our party of 4 arrived around 8:15, and waited about 15 minutes to get seated - definitely try to join the ahead of time because they saved us! It's cozy, clean and well decorated inside, and though the tables are a little close you have plenty of space and it's not too loud for conversations. We got two sets of the $90 menu - which was probably a mistake since we were stuffed and had plenty of leftovers. Drinks: we got 4 different drinks - the mango Lassi, spiced sunset, nanda breeze and burma cooler. All of these were excellent, refreshing and great for balancing the strong flavors of the entrees! Rice: we always get the coconut rice, so this time we opted for 2 scoops of coconut rice and 2 scoops of the burmese fried rice - the fried rice was tasty but not as fragrant as the coconut rice so we'll probably stick to that in the future Salad trio: this included the iconic tea leaf salad, along with the pea shoot salad, and superstar noodle salad. The pea shoot salad was a surprising favorite, and I'd even consider getting that over the tea leaf salad in the future! The noodle salad was pretty filling but tasty - maybe good if you're not planning to get a bunch of entrees On to the entrees: these are all super flavorful, umami, and can get a little heavy if you don't balance it out with the rice and salads. We got the pazun kyaw (chili prawns), nga phel hin (a sort of fish patty in tomato curry sauce with fresh cucumber slices), chili lamb, and basil chili pork belly. The chili lamb was a standout - super tender, flavorful and our overall favorite. The basil chili pork belly is a close second, but a bit oilier and heavier. The nga phel hin was tasty but a little too heavy /salty - slightly helped by the cucumber but there were only 4 slices with the dish. The chili prawns had great flavor but unfortunately were a little overcooked. Overall, this was an excellent meal! Burma Superstar never fails to be a great place for a large, flavorful family style dinner. I'm glad we got to try multiple new things from the menu through the restaurant week offer, and I'll be able to switch up my typical order in the future based on what we tried this time!

When they brought the Mohinga out, they split into two small bowls for us. My only complaint is the Burmese tea. I am a huge fun of Burmese and Thai tea and I know what I had wasn't Burmese tea. Mango lasi was good, not too sweet. We got Falooda for dessert, and it tasted refreshing and came with generous amount of jellies. It's a good dessert to have after a heavy meal and it's plenty to share with another person! I didn't take photos but we also got paratha with curry dip. I came with a friend and I got the lamb kebat lunch special. She got the lamb curry lunch special. The lamb kebat was seasoned good but it felt slightly oily and not as savory as I expected. The lamb itself was a bit gummy and I did not like the texture. The coconut rice was AMAZING! It had a deep coconut flavor that I loved and it went well with the kebat. The tea salad was good but not something I would get again. I'm surprised that this is their most popular item. Maybe I'm not a salad guy. The dressing itself just felt like oil so the salad felt a little oily. Interestingly enough, I happened to have some hot honey from Outta sight pizza and decided to drizzle some over the salad to see how it would taste. It ended up being much more palatable and I finished the salad. Perhaps it would benefit from having some sweetness to enhance the meal. Overall it was an ok experience. Like I said, I would not go out of my way to come back and if someone suggested this place to me, I would hope to try somewhere else. Maybe I chose the wrong items but I'm not too keen on exploring anything else.
