My HVAC blower was installed in the early 90's and bound to have issues sooner or later. Well sooner came faster than later (the first week of '23 summer) and I thought I was going to have to replace the entire system. The inside copper lines were frozen solid. CD Shanahan was one of the first to reply, but the only one that made a solid commitment to come out the very next day. The tech came out, looked at my blower and condenser, then I expected him to say "You need a new HVAC system. That will be $$$$ please!", But that didn't happen. The tech walked me through how he was diagnosing, what parts he suspected was the cause of the issue, and what he recommended as a fix. Long story short, he pumped the line with sealant to plug a suspected pin hole and topped off the freon. That fixed the issue and the AC has been running flawlessly all summer. When my HVAC inevitably bites the dust, I will go with these guys. They are very knowledgeable and educate homeowners. Thank you. What to expect from CD Shanahan: - Active communication from the time you book them to the time the tech completes the job - An email with an itemized list of work items (helpful if you need to price shop) - Courteous of people's homes. We have an older AC that needed maintenance and refrigerant to keep running. We requested quotes and CD Shanahan was the most responsive and gave us the best up front pricing. Connor came out next day at the time agreed to and was right on time. He took various safety precautions including wearing a mask and gloves and shoe coverings. Connor maintained social distancing at all times which was good to see and I never felt like there was a risk as he was very cognizant of making our family feel comfortable. We were upfront about not wanting to replace our AC and Connor was great at explaining what he needed to do for our almost 30 year old unit. He explained the process and when he ran into an issue he conferred with me before taking any action. He quoted me a price when this occurred and discussed alternatives. I checked his prices on various sites and found them to be very competitive and had him do the extra services he recommended. We did discuss future options and the need to plan to transition to a new AC unit at some point. Unlike some other companies I've dealt with before, this discussion was brought up by me and I never felt any pressure from Connor to move to a new unit. He gave me a quote for that service so I could ballpark the cost in the future and plan for it. I felt like he understood what we wanted and worked to make it happen. The work to keep our old unit running took about 3 hours in total and he stayed late to get it done. I felt like he went the extra mile to keep our old unit going and he stayed a bit longer to make sure all was good and was running properly after he serviced it. He also gave me some tips on my water heater and safety when he was in our basement. This info wasn't requested but was appreciated. I contacted CD Shanahan to check out my air conditioner when it was vent temperature was a bit warmer than I remembered. The technician came out and determined that the condenser coil need to be cleaned, and perhaps R22 coolant might need to be added afterwards. The estimate for these services was $375 for a condenser coil "deep cleaning" and $395 for the first pound of R22 coolant. The technician returned the next day to perform the services. The condenser coil cleaning took 15 minutes, and the R22 top off took another 10 minutes. The AC was running better after this, but I felt paying $375 was very high for 15 minutes work and told Connor this. He sent out a new technician to re-clean the condenser coil. He, also, spent 15 minutes on it. These prices seem very high, even for Northern Virginia, but you be the judge. read more

Required a new metal ring for under the toilet. We had toilet removed and the space ready for the replacement. Evan needed only to order the part. Apparently, the first one sent was incorrect, which was not his fault. We never asked how much this job was going to cost. We were charged $534 . He required another $325 to reattach the toilet which he said was not part of the job. Needless to say, we replaced the toilet in less than 10 minutes ourselves. . I definitely believe this was a huge overcharge. I am extremely disappointed from this experience and learned the hard way to get a price and job description up front. read more

I would strongly recommend these guys. We recently called them when our geothermal heat pump went out ; we initially called after hours (and they answered) and they were able to send a tech out first thing the next morning, who was able to diagnose the problem and get the (non-standard) replacement part located and ordered. While waiting for the part to come in they were in regular contact about status. When they came back out to do the repair, they were professional, efficient, and worked well with our condo building's facilities staff to ensure the work was completely smoothly.
