Careless, irresponsible, and completely unwilling to take accountability. I used CA-NY Express movers to move from LA to NY. I mostly packed my own things, but I had them pack my kitchen and a few delicate electronics. These items were packed extremely carelessly and CA-NY movers offered me a few cents per pound of the expensive items they broke. They basically just threw my $700 espresso grinder and $400 bookshelf speakers into big wardrobe boxes filled with dishes. They weren't wrapped in anything or packed tight alongside other items. They were just thrown in with other random stuff, after I specifically pointed those items out as being valuable and delicate. This isn't my first cross-country move, so I know things break, but CA-NY movers were just careless and refused to take real accountability (again, they offered a few cents per pound for what they carelessly broke). Unethical, sleazy, sneaky movers. The experience UP TO moving day was seamless and made me feel hopeful for a good experience - considering it's one of the most stressful things someone can do. [[HIGHLIGHT]]I was assigned an agent at the start who was super communicative and organized everything. That part was actually amazing. It was all transparent and they came off as trustworthy.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I am experienced in moving and relocation, more than I would like. When the movers got on site, the vibe shifted and I was literally lied to (with a witness to back me up), which caused me to make a decision to take an option that was completey misrepresented (purposefully I believe). The foreman was trying to talk me into having my stuff stored at their New Jersey storage facility. Since I was coming from California, and moving to a New York storage site, he told me he was going to be taking this truck personally to New Jersey. And that the move included up to 30 days storage on the East Coast. I knew that that was an option, but I wasn't interested because I already knew the storage space I was going to use. He asked if I had booked it yet, and when I replied, no, he said "so just have us hold it for a couple days. So you can get settled on the east coast. Then you can have it delivered whenever you're ready. " He talked it up so much. I finally said yes because it was one less thing I had to do before leaving California. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The next day I get a notice via email that my items are in storage for up to 30 days in California. I called immediately and was really upset to learn that they only store on the departure side.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I knew this because I read the website and the FAQ like a maniac before booking them, but this guy told me he was personally taking the truck. I was so annoyed. This means my boxes were handled xtra , which comes into play when you continue reading what I found upon delivery. At the arrival site, the movers were also a scammy. Both sets of movers lied and said I was either over inventory or the distance from truck to moving site was over (no stairs at either location - and I checked and measured at my destination storage site - it was not over, not by a longshot) but both said "we'll just pretend it's not - just make sure to give a good tip" Listen; I'm happy to tip well. I hate moving and it's the only thing that makes it feel kind of OK. But this was shady. They lied both times while I was super stressed to get me to tip higher. On the arrival side - all the boxes were crushed and broken. I sprang for the large bankers boxes, extra sturdy. $200 on 6 boxes. All crushed into oblivion. My boxes look like crumpled Trader Joe's bags. Never saw anything like it. Very upsetting. Devastating actually. I still haven't gotten the nerve to open some of them because I'm scared of what I'll find inside. So much of my equipment and personal effects have been broken. Even being securely padded. Something happened to these boxes. I don't know what to say about this experience. It's hard moving long distance. I've done it several times, I know. Worst moving company I have ever seen. I made a mistake and chose to work with this company for my move from San Francisco to New York City. Things went wrong in so many ways. From the day of moving the movers arrived late. They were really unprofessional and had multiple fights among themselves. Then after 12 hours of packing they asked me to pay $3000 extra since the estimate was incorrect which led to another hour of them just holding the elevator in my building and not moving until their local dispatch and the sales person who provided the estimate agreed to charge $2000 extra. Next they asked me to pay additional $500 to provide an exact date for delivery of the items. None of these were disclosed during the initial calls. Then when they arrived I have multiple damaged furniture. All the damages are caused by negligence of packers. For instance armchair leg was not removed, and during the move it was broken due to pressure. Or the handles of my dresser wasn't removed and all were broken due to pressure. All the boxes were 1/3 empty which explained tje additional cost they wanted to charge me. All lamp shades were broken because they didn't wrap them at all and just was dumped in a box. The damages of just the large items is more than $5000. And the company is offering their basic insurance based on cubic footage to cover $150!!! Even though this is clearly a job not properly done. I moved a one-bedroom apartment from SF to Jersey City in September for a total (including tax and tip) of 3.6K. It was a tough call because this was only a bit cheaper than buying everything new, but I'm really happy with the result: - Both pickup and delivery were on time and took 1-2 hours. - [[HIGHLIGHT]]They chose my preferred day in the 5 day delivery window.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] - Nothing was broken or damaged except for one mug. The wine glasses (packed by me) were all fine. The TV (packed by them) was fine. My main issue was during pickup, the foreman put the "actual" volume as exactly the same as the quoted volume. I had disassembled everything so I knew it should be significantly less than the quote. If it had ended here I would have left a bad review. [[HIGHLIGHT]]But when I contacted them they remeasured the volume in the warehouse and corrected it (to about 300 CF) and they also waived some other fees.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] At this point I would give 4.5 stars, rounded up to 5. Keep in mind my situation is probably the opposite from most people's. It's very easy to underestimate how much stuff you have. And a lot of blankets and packaging materials are needed to protect items, which adds volume. I also recommend watching their YouTube videos for how to pack boxes. If you just throw stuff in boxes at random, expect them to break. You need lots of packing paper and bubble wrap. If stacking your boxes 6 high makes you nervous, you haven't packed them well enough. read more

Had a VERY smooth experience moving from SF to NYC at the end of 2022 through Ron and the team. I was recommended this service through a friend who had made the move a few years earlier. I admit that I was expecting a bit of a chaos from such a long and arduous process, but Ron was punctual, responsive, and honest throughout the entire journey. He itemized my one bedroom apartment and gave me an accurate estimate from the jump. I ended up using the storage facilities on the NY side for a month without issue, and my stuff arrived promptly on my move-in day. I did find some minor damage to a few items - a 3-inch hole in a pleather pouf, a piece of bamboo furniture had split its leg, and my IKEA TV stand drawer was uneven - thankfully I packed most of my items in sturdy plastic boxes. The moving teams on both the pickup side in SF and drop off in NYC were extremely gentle with my items and packed them very thoroughly, I can imagine most of the damage occurring between storage. Overall, the value and service is *excellent* for the price. I wasn't hit with any surprise bills or gimmicks. We needed some furniture pieces moved from Napa, CA to Jersey City, NJ. Did a lot of research and found lots of horror stories about other moving companies from the Better Business Bureau complaints website. This company had a great BBB rating and their price was the best. Throughout the process they kept me informed, provided all necessary information in writing, and told us what to expect. They assigned a consultant to our move who was our contact person in San Francisco. Eric Rummel was our guy and he was outstanding. Pickup was right on time, movers were polite, friendly, and professional. During the cross country trek they emailed me with their location on a daily basis. The Delivery was right on time and they gave the recipient plenty of notice. Delivery staff on that end were also polite, friendly, and professional. This is a truly terrible moving company. To begin with - I would say that these movers are not only unprofessional - in that they did a terrible job packing our furniture that caused a lot of unnecessary damage and headache. But that they were also dishonest and had absolutely zero customer service. The movers on the SF leg (pick-up) for our move did an awful job wrapping our furniture, which they charged us extra for - stating that our storage company had not done a sufficient job wrapping (and so they unwrapped and rewrapped our items). When our stuff arrived on the East Coast our NY based moving crew commented several times what a bad job they had done wrapping our items. When I requested to be reimbursed for the wrapping - that I didn't authorize to begin with and for which they did a terrible job - I was told that I should just expect this kind of damage in a cross-country move. Excuse after excuse was made for the condition of our stuff and for our overall (terrible) moving experience. If your stuff is going to show up damaged because they can't properly wrap furniture and they treat your items like garbage while on the move - then why bother to spend 11k+ to have it moved to begin with?? At the end of the day we ended up paying close to what we had been quoted from far more reputable moving companies but ended up having an awful experience and weeks of inconvenience spent dealing with insurance, and replacing and repairing our things. This review is for our move in May/June 2017. CA-NY Express Movers are excellent communicators. They make you feel comfortable in preparing for the move, communicate well during the move and are prompt with the delivery. However, there are 3 things they are really bad at: 1. Packing your stuff 2. Moving your stuff 3. Resolving issues when they break your stuff We moved from the Bay Area to NYC with CA-NY Express Movers. Having lived in temp accommodation for over a month, we were really looking forward to moving into our own apartment with our own stuff and get the feeling of being at home in a new city. The delivery team arrived on time and started unloading, after accepting full payment, of course. As the first pieces of furniture starting coming in, my heart started sinking. We immediately noticed broken furniture and damaged cartons. The delivery crew foreman himself told us that this was really bad packing and that they often see this with the California packing crew. So after paying to pack and move the furniture, we had to buy the ENTIRE FURNITURE FOR TWO BEDROOMS. Yes, that's right, two broken beds, two night stands broken, one chest of drawers broken and unstable. And that was all the bedroom furniture we moved an nothing survived the move - so basically we shouldn't have bothered!!! Then I start opening the torn/tattered cartons. My delicate show pieces - Crystal, Porcelain, Stained Glass, were literally DUMPED in cartons (And I specifically showed the pieces that required extra care to your moving staff who came to pack). How they survived without breaking is surprising. Horrible packing, no fragile tag. Next, moving on to the Wardrobe boxes - loose shoes just tossed at the bottom of the carton with my coats on top. To add to that, my umbrellas and other products were thrown in between shoes. I'm just going to guess these guys who packed my stuff travel with their dirty used shoes just packed in between their clean clothes. To me that is disgusting. Shoes should have been packed separately. I explicitly mention that my Heeled shoes need care - but it didn't matter, things were tossed in and my expensive shoes are now damaged. Multiple items were packed around my TV in the TV box so now the back has a huge dent. And through all this, I swear I kept my cool. What made me lose it is that toilet waste bins and the bathroom and toilet rugs were packed with my kitchen items. Yes, with my kitchen items and to be specific - WITH SPOONS, FORKS ,PAPER PLATES, MY BABY'S MEDICINE, CANDY and BABY'BOTTLE WASHING BRUSH. How do you get kitchen and bathroom stuff mixed in the same box? And just in case that was not enough - They packed the 2nd bathroom stuff including a waste bin and shower curtain with my baby's clothes, toys, sippy cup! It's appalling to us that professional packers would not use the common sense to not mix unsanitary products with a baby's utensils. Is this how they would pack for their own kids whom they chatted with us about while packing? The amount of washing and sanitizing, throwing away good stuff because it was damaged, drained us more than we would pay a better quality mover. When we wanted to file a claim for damages, this was made super difficult. We had to get the claim notarized and sent a very specific way for them to consider it. Once sent, they promptly sent us a claim settlement for $50 for all the things that were damaged, misclassifying many boxes as packed by us, when everything was packed by their crew, misclassifying furniture as not covered. When we sent them the corrections to their claim settlement, we just stopped hearing back from them. Please stay away from these guys and find better movers, if you care about your possessions and sanity. read more

Was relocated from NYC to San Francisco for work. My initial reaction was that these guys were responsive and detailed oriented. Noel who came to my apartment provided exceptional customer service. I had to reschedule my pick up a few times and Noel was amenable to the changes. His team came to my apartment with 5 people to pack and unload the truck. Even with 5 people we still managed to get a parking ticket...NYC #meh. After a few weeks the delivery arrived, being that I needed to sort out my living situation I utilized there storage facilities. Here's where things got a little messy and the reason for the 2 stars. The folks that unpacked my storage unit to my apartment were fantastic and very friendly, but we all soon realized that my things weren't packed/shipped appropriately. Multiple dings on my furniture - broken TV stand and the kicker...my plasma TV inoperable. The main reason for the 2 stars is how there insurance works. Essentially i was covered up to 5k but the metric is based on weight/lb. Needless to say I was reimbursed $406 for the damages after an original estimate of $156. *caveat - I understand the contract i signed, however in this situation I feel the company should be responsible for there mistakes. My delivery was completed on 12/24 and it was a Christmas miracle that they made it. Many of the boxes were damaged and ripped apart. The condition of the boxes, the amount of items broken inside of them , the lack of communication with the breakdown of getting the delivery and the professionalism of the crew that picked the items up from CA was horrible and unacceptable. I spent hours on the phone fielding calls, The customer isn't the person that should initiate phone calls and rescheduling a delivery if something goes wrong. I get that things happen but I expect action to be taken right away when someone has been waiting 3+ weeks for there delivery. Also the condition of the boxes were unsettling, they looked as if they were thrown around and physically ripped apart. How do I know things weren't taken from them? There were many damages to glasses, dishes, lampshades etc. All of which were packed properly but handled poorly. The crew that picked up from CA was not gentle with the boxes that were clearly marked fragile , threw them on truck, and two of them asked to use bathroom and one of them was in there for about ten minutes taking a crap. I only knew because he joked about it in Spanish to the other workers assuming I don't know Spanish. That was ridiculous and disgusting. It may be cheap, but I learned my lesson. Im extremely impressed with how easy this company made my move. I've never moved cross country so I was extremely nervous. Not to mention I had no idea where I was moving, only that I was moving to the east coast for a new job. I requested a quote and and time slot for my move which totally came in handy when I found a place. The team was extremely accommodating to my schedule which I had to switch around a few times. They were so pleasant to deal with when I asked a million and a half questions. I worked with Eric and he was fantastic in getting the movers to my house at the time I wanted. When the movers actually did come they helped me pack up items that I didn't trust myself to do on my own such as my mattress, wall art, TVs. The movers on the west coast were super helpful and accommodating. I forgot to put two extra boxes on my "move list" and it was not a big deal. I wasn't able to meet the east coast movers but I'm sure they were just as legit. This company is worth every penny. DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY IF YOU NEED ADVANCE NOTICE TO MOVE IN Context: Moved from NYC to SF (city not suburbs) Pro: Good moving crew, items handled carefully (nothing that was packaged well broke), fair price, move out in NYC was fine and went very smoothly Cons: It was much harder than necessary to schedule and confirm the delivery. First, the estimated delivery is a stretch of 8 possible days. This is not specific enough. The exact date can only be locked in once the shipment arrives in California. This is fine if one is moving to the suburbs with a dedicated driveway and no other party to coordinate with. But I was moving to the middle of downtown where I had to coordinate with the city for temporary parking signs and the building for the move in date. I needed to give 7 days notice before the delivery date to coordinate with all these parties with strict rules. The CA-NY Express team was not able to give me a confirmation on time, even after repeated calls to the customer service team. Because I needed to order a temporary parking sign with the city, the team made an unofficial estimate of the delivery date. However, later they told me they could not make that date and my move in date would have to be delayed. We had to pay an additional $287 to order a rushed temporary sign. All in all, the move took 18 calendar days (not their 15 calendar days guarantee), not including holidays for the shipment to arrive. Their inability to confirm deliveries on time and the anxiety that came with it wasn't worth it. read more

I cannot recommend this company enough. Put simply, their prices, service, and expertise were nothing short of amazing. First, their prices. I called many places over the course of a half-year looking for a competitive price to move an apartment's worth of "junk" from California to Connecticut. California NY Express's prices were the cheapest by a mile. While I did not have enough stuff to "fill up" the amount of space allotted for the minimum charge, their price was STILL lower than anybody else's. Second, their service. On both coasts, the people who packed my things were quick, timely and polite. I was impressed with how low maintenance they were and how they did not "beg" or require a tip (even though I gave them one). I would go with California NY Express for this alone. ATTENTION: THEY STEAL! Moved from New York to San Francisco, the final price was double the quote, they didn't bring enough supplies so we had go out and buy our own, half of many boxes was half consisted of wrapping paper, couldn't find my sofa legs for a month, and my cello was broken. I somehow decided to put up with all these until I realized THEY STOLE MY THINGS, for real. I have a pouch filled with foreign changes that I didn't use up when I travelled abroad (it was cash from around 20 countries totaling around $500), I left the wallet to be moved with the rest of my shelf because they were all small notes like €10, £5 and I didn't know they will look into the pouch and STEAL everything out from it. The pouch is not missing, it's completely emptied, and I remembered clearly putting things in it right before the move, so I know someone took the money, and the movers were the only people that had ever touched my stuffs. I tried contacted them but no one replied, guess I will have to figure out some other way to deal with it, but again, all other mistakes are probably acceptable, but stealing things is just disgusting. read more

I did not have a lot of things to move from SF to NYC. Well, they destroy half of my furniture! They were 2 days late and also be aware they demand payment in CASH (no credit card) before unloading the truck the day of the delivery (red flag). No way to dispute the transaction. Bad faith and unprofesional. I will never ever recommend them to anyone. My advice. Pay a little more and get the right service. BTW I got fooled by the positive reviews on yelp. NEGATIVE 10 actually...if there were a choice for negative stars, I would give them -10. They hire "gang members" (literally was told this by the foreman when they were packing my things... Awesome) as movers who don't really give a shit about your stuff. They Damaged EVERYTHING!!!!!!. Do not pay this company to move your belongings. They caused about $5-10k worth of damage in total to my things. Quote I got from them for breaking my stuff... $235. They want to give me $235 which doesn't even cover my Dyson vacuum which they destroyed. I would add the pics and description of everything they broke but I can't possibly bring myself to spend anymore time dealing with this situation. A lot of my items arrived broken, the boxes looked like they were thrown and tossed around during the move. Not at all how they looked when they were originally packaged. I understand that they aren't going to arrive perfect, but some of my boxes looked like they had been through hell. They also lost a box as well that they actually charged me additional for in regards to packaging. I would never recommend or use this company again. I spent a while researching moving companies. I only had a few boxes and a few pieces to move from my parents' in San Rafael, CA to my apartment in NYC. The prices were pretty comparable and I can't really say why I went with this company over the others. What a disappointment. Out of the FIVE pieces of furniture in the shipment (one antique table, four antique chairs) one was destroyed. Not just chipped or broken a bit and able to be repaired. No. DESTROYED. It was like their mover dropped the chair right on its end. Each chair was "carefully wrapped" in moving blankets (that I paid for, thankyouverymuch) but of course wrapping it in anything wouldn't have helped if they dropped the damn chair off the truck onto the ground. When I filed my insurance claim, they reimbursed me $21. HARDLY the cost to replace an antique chair and certainly nowhere NEAR what it will cost to buy another set of four. Apparently you only receive a percentage of what your shipping costs were, not what your belongings are actually worth. Find someone else! read more

Highly recommended company for moving. Speedy service, excellent communication, with a team that knows what they are doing. I did some research and got some quotes from a few different companies before settling with CA - NY Express Movers. Total cost for moving from SF to NYC was around $2000 for 250 cubic volume of belongings. They have their own system for calculating the total cost that you can use, which made things easy to estimate. The crew that showed up for pickup and delivery were quick in their service. The team wrapped up my furniture very nicely for the move. Time frame of the delivery to NYC was delayed due to some mechanical issues. As stated on their contract, they would issue $100 dollars for everyday that it was late past the estimated delivery date. I was a bit skeptical and thought I would have to jump through hoops to get the money, but true to their word, I got the money back hassle free. Honesty is what I look for in a service and these guys lived up to it. read more
