As someone from the Southwest, I set my expectations very low for this place because how could NH possibly have authentic Mexican food? I was pleasantly surprised by the carne asada tacos which had tender and flavorful meat served in a hard shell taco wrapped in a flour tortilla with some queso between the two. Not a traditional serving by any means, but I liked it. The rice and beans weren't bad, but also nothing to write home about. The service was fine. The margaritas were fun, though not anything I'd go out of my way to go back for. Our takeout dinner was far below average. We ordered chicken fajitas, a chicken chimichanga, a steak quesadilla, and a steak and cheese wrap. The chicken dishes were completely inedible. The chicken was tough and chewy, and after the first bite, we immediately lost our appetites. The chimichanga wasn't even crispy, which was especially disappointing. The rice and beans tasted more like packaged rice and canned beans than something freshly prepared. The steak dishes were at least edible, but still nothing worth returning for. My husband and I came in tonight to have dinner we could clearly see that it was not busy the bartender saw standing at the hostess station and told us we could take a booth we sat there for a good 7 to 8 minutes while two servers passed us by not even looking at us so we got up and left and nobody even saw that we left. I then called the restaurant to speak to a manager regarding this situation and I was passed off to three different servers asking what my name was and why I wanted to speak to the manager only to be put on hold and never to actually speak to the restaurant manager what kind of business is this ?? We went to Cactus Jack's a few days ago. We took our family for our daughter's birthday. We were seated promptly at a large table. We were all fairly tired from being out on the lake most of the day, but our server was super helpful. All three of our granddaughters are choosy eaters but our server was wonderful to them, very patient and supportive. Each of us enjoyed our meal, and cocktails. The food was cooked well and tasted delicious! When we were nearly finished our server asked if she should serve our daughter her free birthday dessert. Stuck in Laconia on a Monday night, few places open. This place looked homey! And it was! Super nice waitress which is what gives it the fourth star. Food was ok. The smash burger was a hit but my steak and cheese quesadilla was not, too much seasoning on the outside and greasy. I loved the shrimp app but three shrimp?? Three? I should give this place 6 stars, just for the fact that it is one of 2 places that serve food past 9:00 pm. Literally the only ones that do so in this area! They and T-Bones are in the same building, and both serve food till 12:30 am. Everything in Meredith and Laconia rolls up at 8 or 9, and when you're working at Laconia Bike Week, being able to eat later is a big deal! The big neon sign says Cajun food. Why, I don't know. I haven't been here in about 8 years so I was excited to go back. I went on a Saturday night and as expected they were very busy. I quickly found the one empty seat at the bar. Once I sat I waited about 10 minutes for one of the three bartenders to notice me. She dropped a food menu and ran away. About 5 minutes later another came by asking what I wanted for a drink and at that point I asked for a drink menu. I will say that there are good drink specials. I ordered a beer and asked for chips while I looked at the food menu. The salsa is very thick, almost like crushed tomatoes with seasoning. Very slow service at the bar. Chips were over seasoned and tasted store bought. I ordered the house margarita that was on special for $5 and I understand why. I could taste no tequila in it at all. Funny thing is that a group of three sitting next to me complained about the mango margaritas they were given as having not enough alcohol either. The bartender said "sorry that's how we do it" and walked away. I got a taco special that was cool to the touch and the rice and beans had good flavor but cold. Let me start by saying I really love T-Bones and Copper Door and could not have been more disappointed in Cactus Jack's. This is the little brother of these other restaurants that decided to dress up like a Tex-Mex restaurant. Just because you wear a cowboy hat does not mean you are a good Tex-Mex Restaurant. At this location I am thinking the food probably comes out of the same kitchen for the T-Bones upstairs. The beef fajitas was a piece of teriyaki steak that was sliced and put on the fajita platter. I am not sure how asian flavored steak qualifies as Tex-Mex. Also the vegetarian enchiladas had what seemed to be the same vegetables that were being served as a side dish that day on the T-Bones side. They did not make sense. The margaritas were nothing to write home about. Just standard bar made margaritas. Overall the staff were pleasant and efficient in their work. Sitting at the bar you could see how busy they were mixing up drinks for the entire restaurant. I appreciated there hustle and hard work. If I was back in the area again, I would go to T-Bones and skip Cactus Jack's. read more

Service was great but the food was too salty. Came during their evening happy hour (10pm) and there were plenty of seats. Got our appetizers and entrees in a timely manner. The best thing I had were their chips and salsa and sweet potato fries. The avocado dip was good too. The jalapeno poppers were huge and were practically the size of my hand. I'll start with the positive. The atmosphere is fun, there are games to play, and the service that we had was very friendly and attentive. That being said...my husband and I went for drinks and apps and it wasn't pretty. My (house) margarita was so bad that I couldn't even finish it. I am an avid fish taco eater and unexpectedly these were THE BEST fish tacos I have ever had. I cannot recommend them enough and I am difficult to please with food. Basically shitty Chili's. To be fair, my girlfriend and I are on a diet and our menu options are super limited. We got the Buffalo wings which were actually surprising good, although not nearly crispy enough. We also got chicken fajita salads - dreadful. Terrible ratio of ingredients. There were probably three times as many jalapeños and olives as pieces of chicken. The lettuce got super soggy beneath all the pico and salsa. Didn't have that distinct fajita taste either. I wasn't expecting this place to have any above average options, especially in the salads department, but they somehow failed to meet even my most modest expectations. I have really appreciated the consistency this place brings to the table, pun intended. If you want quality consistent food then cactus jacks is a go to especially in the lakes region. I can't say enough good things about this place. Last night was no different with my turkey avocado melt sandwich. As well as the nachos that had both chicken and beef on them as recommended by Chelsea our server who was great and friendly as well. Ate here two nights while in Laconia for bike week. The mahi mahi tacos were very good..fish was not over cooked and the taco had just enough filling to complement the fish. The fish and chips was fried haddock which was fresh and cooked very well. The second night we tried the steak fajitas. The steak was cooked as requested. Staff was helpful and attentive the first night. The second night our waiter appeared to be the only one working...he got the job done but he seemed a little harried. We went there last night for dinner. We were never told that due to covid they close at 1030. It took about 45 minutes to an hour to get our food and by the time we did our food was cold. We did not say anything because we were starving and didn't want to wait another hour. When we got the bill we paid and sat there chatting and finishing our drinks. A waitress that wasn't ours came over and was like you have to leave we closed at 1030 it's 1040 we gave you a Le way window of 10 minutes. I asked if I can finish my alcoholic beverage and she said no you have to leave. The whole time we were there, there probably wasn't even more than 6 tables filled. The food was delicious but the service was HORRIBLE. This place is great and always draws in a decent crowd. The menu is well organized and the variety is great considering the food is limited to Mexican inspired, American dishes.
