I've lived right next to this cafe for almost a decade and have ordered delivery/pick up from this cafe every now and then. I've always gone with the gyro platter with fries. The last time I ordered delivery I specified "no salad dressing" in the special instructions section. When I received the food, there was no salad included, so I called and told them about the error. The man who answered the phone agreed to send me salad, but yelled at me that I shouldn't have written "no salad dressing," because it confused them. He also hung up on me. Was jonesin' for late-night after-dinner sweets, and saw that Café Eighty-Two was open til 1am, so stopped by with my out-of-town friend to show him what we New Yorkers are made of: diners and cheesecake! The slice was way smaller than I expected for the price, and it didn't come with crust, which was disappointing to me, but the consistency was spot on. We also got a couple teas, and paid about $10 for everything. I do wish the slice was bigger, but for what it was and the time of night they were open, It was solid. An update from a recent visit. We ordered french onion soup, caesar salad with chicken and shrimp and belgian waffles with turkey bacon. Their French onion soup, as I reviewed before, is really good. Serving portio is decent. Price is reasonable. The salad is just okay, nothing to get excited about. The grilled chicken is good but what I didnt like are the shrimps. It tasted like its no longer fresh and overcooked. Better not to mess with my shrimp as it is one of my fave seafood... lobster is on the top of my list. Serving portion is a bit smaller than I expected. Price is reasonable. The belgian waffles are good... actually I love it! But the turkey bacons are disappointing. It lacks the crispiness and rich turkey taste that I usually got from other diners/cafe. I was so disappointed that I think I left 2/3 of it untouched. Serving portion is decent. Price is reasonable. I was about to give 2 stars for this visit but since the staffs are nice and the place is acceptably clean I'll give it a 3. There is still room for improvement guys. read more

A staple and delicious late night local diner. They had all of the quality diner eats you could wish for. The waiter gave us great recommendations, we ordered the matzo ball soup, the waffles with strawberries, a grilled cheese sandwich times two, peppermint tea, and blintzes,. Everything was so good I had to go back for more and ended up ordering a second grilled cheese sandwich! Can you believe it?! I cannot either! Needless to say, I will be back! This review is based solely on the terrible customer service and not the food, as the service was so atrocious that we left before we even got seated. That said, I've eaten here a few times before and the food isn't that much better than the service. As for today, I walk in this afternoon for lunch with my disabled child and as I get halfway to my table our waiter starts nastily shouting at us, "didn't you read the sign outside? Strollers need to be folded, you're in the way." I told him yes we read the sign, but with numerous items underneath a stroller that doesn't allow for it to be folded, it's impossible to fold a stroller while also holding bags and a disabled child. I need to get him to his seat first before he can come out of the stroller for it to be folded. As I get to my table, I am undressing my son to get him into his seat so that I can fold up his stroller and then the waiter comes over and starts barking about the stroller again, which I told him i already heard him and am getting my son into his seat so that i can take care of the stroller. He then reaches over us to put menus on our table and instead of saying excuse me, says MOVE. Needless to say, I handed the menu right back, got my son dressed and we left. I would never give a place like this my business. If you work in the service industry you should at the minimum know how to politely speak to customers. Their delivery is precise, quick and on point, even for someone like me (who fancies herself a Sally Albright-lite when it comes to making orders her own). Their matzoh ball soup is just okay. These guys are great. Can't imagine this area without them. Not only are they friendly every flipping time, they remember your name and take the extra time to go that distance. Counts for a lot in this era and the lost craft of just being nice for no reason. Good quality food for the price, you have to try the brisket sandwich they put on the menu recently- hate to say it but at the price it smokes all the pretentiously priced sandwiches at the "brunchy" style places. I stopped by for dinner with my two nieces on monday and I had a terrible experience!! I was lead toward the back past all the empty tables in the main dining area. Then I was asked 3 seperate times for our order when we had just sat down seconds before. I felt rushed and unwanted. When I ordered my burger I made the mistake of asking for a cheese burger with no cheese and was sternly corrected by the waiter. Then when my niece ordered her salad she asked for avocado in it and it seemed her request annoyed the waiter. No one came to ask if we needed anything during our dinner and at the end when I asked for the check, I was told I was going to be charged 3 extra dollars because I was going to pay by card. I am EXTREMELY DISAPPOINTED with this visit as I've been here several times alone with just my husband to grab a quick bite after the movies and those visits were great! Wanted a quick casual breakfast on a Saturday morning so we stumbled about Cafe Eight Two around 10 am. It was a beautiful day outside and after passing a handful of restaurants that served breakfast without outdoor seating areas, we were slightly disappointed to see that Cafe Eight Two did not. We headed inside anyways and it was a true New York diner feel. We were told there would be about a 10 minute wait for four of us, and since there was very limited standing room inside, we headed outside. I decided to keep track of the time because I had a feeling that if we were out of sight, we were going to be out of mind, considering we didn't put our name or number down on a list. However, five minutes later, someone came out to find us and let us know our table was ready. We weren't brought to a table, just told to sit at the last booth in the back. Turns out the table wasn't ready for us when we sat. There was no silverware or cups and it hadn't been wiped down yet from the guests prior. However, immediately after sitting down, someone came over with a wet rag and wiped the table down followed by drink orders. They had a lot of different kinds of juice on their menu, including grapefruit, which you don't find everywhere. We did some coffees and a chocolate milk with sides of waters. The coffee was oddly served in cappuccino cups. It was strong and bold and throughout the entire meal people were constantly coming over to refill our cups, a bit too much actually, I found we were saying no thank you every five minutes or so to coffee refills. The menu had pretty much anything you could possibly want for breakfast. Eggs, Lox, Omelettes, Eggs Benedict, Steak & Eggs, Challah French Toast, Pancakes, Waffles, even whole wheat options. I thought the prices were reasonable for NYC and the portions. I went with an egg white veggie omelette which came with home fries and my choice of toast (whole wheat, white or rye) The omelette was massive, I couldn't finish the whole thing. Home fries were fine, needed a bit more seasoning and the rye bread was good. My friend got eggs with a side of turkey sausage and the sausage was HUGE. I wasn't a big fan of the corn beef hash, that was a disappointing. It was too mushy, not crispy enough. Overall, people enjoyed their food, bill came to $64 for everything. I can't believe I've never eaten here. It's like the whole proverbial something right in front of my face and I don't see it because I'm so focused on something else! Awesome. Literally, around the corner from where I live and I'm just now eating here? Gosh, I totally suck. Well, I suck no more because I ate here. I kid you not, the fastest service. I ordered my BLT, bam, within minutes. And it was tasty and rather inexpensive, considering it's UWS. My coffee was refilled a few times, very attentive. STAY AWAY UNLESS YOU WISH TO GET SICK FROM FOOD I am just going to report my experience and let you judge for yourself. I ordered simple scrambled eggs with bacon breakfast, with french fries. First, the order came out wrong but that could be the waiter's fault. The bacon looked strange from the beginning, very flimsy like it was not cooked properly. I eat two forkfuls of scrambled eggs and one strip of bacon, which felt funny in my mouth with a strange taste, almost moldy, so, after the first bite, I decided not to eat any more of it. Five minutes later I had to rush to the bathroom and vomited everything I had in my stomach, including plenty of liquids, as I had nothing more to give. I was in there vomiting nonstop for ten or fifteen minutes. My stomach hurt so badly that by the time I left the bathroom to go back to my table, my face was covered in tears from the pain. I asked for the check and they had the guts to charge me for the whole meal. When I asked the manager to adjust the bill seeing that all I eat were the french fries he looked at me as if I was a homeless asking for charity. So I paid for the full amount. First experience... well let's start by i really thought this was going to be a good place to have a nice burger with my 11 year old. Man was I wrong. Location wise it was decent very old school very small. Ambiance mediocre the servers were tentative maybe a bit too tentative they asked about 5 times if everything was ok. Then surprisingly they filled up quickly. This is the part I didn't like. People were waiting to be seated and there wasn't any space for them to stand therefore causing them to stare at me and my son the entire time. The Service here was great! The place is very small and not very comfortable when it's crowded. We had to leave our baby strollers up front and my friends walker up front. They do provide high chairs if you're coming with children and the bathroom does not have a changing table. We had multiple servers so everything was easy for us being as though we didn't need to ask for anything. They're pretty much paying attention to every detail while you dine, from empty glass cups to plates, etc.... They do offer a variety of breakfast items. I loved the chicken soup, home fires and cheesecake. I didn't like the grilled chicken very much. When we travel to Manhattan we always come to Cafe 82. Their prices are reasonable and the people are friendly. I watched a server help some older folks get to their seats. He hugged some others. So nice, especially, in the big Apple. They have really good muffins though I am usually too full to get them. The cafe is not far from the Natural History museum though we walked from Met museum. There is also a nice bookstore across the street and the 1 subway is only a few blocks way (79th street, I believe). We live in Florida but we will be back. read more
