I just discovered this place and was pleasantly surprised. I'm told they used to be smaller and with lower prices. The place looked fairly new. It was slightly crowded and active. The bathrooms were not the cleanest. The staff seemed nice. Watching the kitchen is cool. You wait in line to order and then wait and wait, so it gets backed up. I have to be honest and say they lost me at they didn't have babaganoush. say waaaat?! I settled for Ikra (?) and it was ok but i had my taste buds set up for babaganoush. Cafe Bravo's has grown on me as a favorite place to eat. They renovated about a year ago. They always serve me up a good meal that's cooked similar to my home style. And I learned about a spice common to Armenia called Sumac. It tastes like a floral garden mixed with butter on hot rice. I live for their garlic sauce suggested accompaniment too. I eat everything on the menu. Fish kabob and Borsht are my favorite main things to eat. They have spinach yogurt, eggplant dip, tabouleh and so many great sides. I'd come to Café Bravo in the past before I started Yelping due to the suggestion of an Armenian coworker I was working with at the time. And you know, back in 2006, I thought the place was really good. Sadly, as people age, we change - in particular, our taste buds change like fine wine that becomes more sophisticated and mature over time. Perhaps that is why the places from our past that tasted so good once, taste meh-diocre or even shitty when we go back. The food at Café Bravo isn't terrible and I believe that the main problems with Café Bravo are the workers. You see, I had called in advance to order take out since I live less than 5 minutes away from the restaurant and I wanted to save time. I ordered three things, a chicken kabob plate, a chicken breast kabob plate, and a chicken shawerma plate. As sides I asked for hummus, spinach yogurt, and tabbouleh. Moreover, I requested an extra order of large tabbouleh and two garlic sauces since they nickel and dime you for everything here. Unfortunately, when I arrived to pick up my order it had not been placed because they were out of chicken shawerma. Rather than attempting to call me back they decided to wait until I arrived at the restaurant before informing me. A part of me wanted to yell, "Bra-fucking-vo, bro!" To get my order rolling, as a quick substitute for the chicken shawerma I opted for beef (worst decision ever because the beef was very sinewy). When my meal was finally ready I paid the guy who also happened to take phone calls, receive payment, and cook. I also noticed he never stopped to wash his hands or use sanitizer in between his duties. At this point I should have said I'm watching you, but I was too tired from waiting for my food. All I know is that my momma always told me that money was the dirtiest thing on earth and you know momma's always right because a recent scientific study found that aside from germs and shit, 90% of cash has trace amounts of cocaine. So I suppose if you want coke and I'm not talking the diet kind with your food, Café Bravo is for you. When I mentioned this, the workers offered no apology. Instead, they mumbled some shit as if I were asking for too much. When I got home and shared the food with the wife, we noticed that the chicken breast kabob was really dry like overcooked turkey dry. Also the beef shawerma was so sinewy we barely touched it. The only dish that was somewhat decent was the chicken kabob. As for the sides, I've never seen my wife pass on hummus before and while we are no experts on hummus, either the crap they gave us was stale or they do something weird to it. I think if they had better customer service I may have enjoyed the food more. Actually, I take that back because the food at Mini-Kabob and Mediterranean Café is light-years better than the crap we had yesterday. After a day of working out a group of us decided to stop at Cafe Bravo to grab a bite to eat. The line was long and the place was packed which seemed to be a good sign. So how Cafe Bravo works is you stand in line, place your order at the cashier, get your number and find a table. After overlooking the menu I decided on getting a Kabob plate ($7.95). The plate comes with two sides in addition the choice of rice or salad. I decided on the chicken kabob with salad instead of rice, with hummus and the shirazi salad as my sides. As we were a group of 7 it was a little harder to find a large enough table for us all, so luckily the flow of customers is pretty steady, we were able to snag some tables near the window. (Beware that it can get pretty warm as the sun is beaming and there are no blinds) The food arrived at our table and it all looked so yummy so I dove right in. The large chunks of chicken were cooked just right and they were nice and juicy! Make sure to get the extra garlic sauce ($.50) it makes it all sooooo much better! Thanks to my dear friends Anash & Nat, Cafe Bravo is still one of my favorite places to drop by when visiting Glendale. They have the best overall consistency, each time I visit. Consistent in what sense you ask? How about the quality, price, and taste. You can't go to a restaurant like this and expect an atmosphere like Raffi's Place. Their styles differ, where Cafe Bravo is a place for a quick meal and more pleasing to the lunch order crowd. It can get busy so I normally call in my order and then get it to go. When it comes to the same taste and flavor that you recognize, their food is very gratifying. Now, don't expect their meat to be of the highest top quality. You get what you pay for. Meaning, the meat is reasonable and their prices are inexpensive. The popular Shish Kabob Plates (chicken breast, beef, lamb) come with 2 skewers, your choice of rice or salad, pita bread, and your selection of 2 out of 4 sides. I always get the rice, tabbouleh, and hummus. Their shirazi salad is good too. I lather the hummus all over the pita bread as I stuff my face with meat and rice. You'd think it's carb-ageddon, but somehow it all works out well. With an average price of about $7 to $8, you know why people flock to this place. The meat is marinated beautifully, seasoned just right (but not too salty), and cooked close to perfection. Some people might think that it's overcooked or hard to chew but I've never had any issues with their beef or lamb. Their chicken sometimes can taste a bit resilient and dry, but nothing I can't keep down. The main thing you notice is that the taste is indistinguishable each and every time. Been coming here for years to get lamb chops. Occasionally one of four chops would be sub par in size. Today, my fiance and I ordered lam chops for Fat Tuesday celebration. Mine were right, hers were small, all of them. When she took back to register to complain, told the size is the size. Then she requested refund, insisting we stay to eat mine. Moral of this story? I always order Cafe Bravo for my family parties. You get great portions for what you pay for and the quality of food is amazing. I am writing this long overdue review because of the excellent customer service I received this evening. I had ordered a feast of food and picked up alone. Maria took the time to walk me to my car and help me load the trays into my car. She certainly did not have to do that for me. We had a nice conversation too. Wonderful food, wait time, and staff!
