Combination Pork Sandwich

Quant little restaurant. The Banh mi was excellent! And they were quite generous with the meat which is really nice. The mayo and pate were great. Docking a star for value only because I think it is a little pricey for a Banh mi but otherwise very good!

Had the 5 Spice Chicken fully loaded and Vietnamese iced coffee. Very delicious! Baguette was fresh and didn't cut the roof of my mouth!

Ordered takeout on a rainy day during the week. The website is outdated and the prices do not match their current menu. When I mentioned this on the phone, the worker said they would let their boss know. When I walked in to pick up, there was just one person at the front taking all the orders, including by phone. I had wait a while until they finished up that customer's order to pick up my food - wasting about 18 minutes of my lunch break. I don't blame the worker but it was really inconvenient. The customer was not sure what to order so it took some time. It could have been solved if they wrote their potential order on a piece of paper and rang up my order on the POS, but because the worker was using it to input and remove orders, I had to wait. Once he got off the phone, he gave me my order in a standard small takeout bag and charged me $0.25 for it. That's wild. I asked him to remove the charge and gave back the bag. I'm ordering a sandwich. It should be wrapped tightly and well. Once I got back, I was surprised to see my sandwich was mostly vegetables. I thought they had skimped on the meats (see photo) but was relieved to see there was meat after all. The pate was thinly applied to my sandwich and my sandwich overall was a bit dry. I've been here before when they first opened and feel like the sandwich quality has gone down.

Cafe Bunn Mi is a casual Vietnamese spot in South San Francisco that feels like a comfortable neighborhood go-to. The interior is simple but comfortable clean, and relaxed. There is a good amount of seating and a no-fuss vibe that works well whether you're grabbing a quick bite or sitting down for a meal with friends. It's not trying to be upscale, but it's welcoming and pleasant. The service is warm, quick, and efficient. I was greeted right away at the counter, the full menu is on a big chalkboard right on the wall, and my order was taken promptly. The food came out without much waiting, even when it's busy. The staff is friendly when you talk to them otherwise they leave you mostly alone, which I like at a spot like this because I'm there by myself on lunch usually and like to be reading, listening to podcasts, or otherwise absorbed in my own world. The food is really where Cafe Bunn Mi stands out. I ordered the garlic noodles with shaken beef, and it was exceptional - savory, buttery, flavorful, and very filling. The beef was tender and well-seasoned, and the noodles hit exactly the right notes. My only hesitation is the price. At $23 for the dish on its own, it felt a bit expensive for a casual Vietnamese eatery, even though the quality was there. It should be noted that shaken beef is their most expensive protein option not just for the garlic noodles but for all other dishes (rice bowls, sandwiches, etc.) and that five spice chicken, grilled pork chop, and lemongrass steak are all cheaper. Overall, Cafe Bunn Mi is a strong 4/5 - minus one star just because it's a bit pricey. It's reliable, tasty, and friendly, and I'd happily come back to try more of the menu. If you're in the area and craving Vietnamese comfort food with solid flavors and fast, kind service, it's definitely worth a visit.

Back again and it was delicious. A neighborhood gem in downtown South City. Will definitely return many more times.

I took a bite out of my Crispy Chicken sandwich, this was ok.

Greetings to all, this is my first but not my last visit to this restaurant: Parking in the area is at will, as they are on Grand Avenue. An C for me. The inside of the restaurant was moderately lit and ok for what they were trying to achieve; with enough seating for a ok lunch crowd. An B for me. The service was ok, as we ordered our food to go. An B for me. We got the food which we booth noticed was not very hot. The food itself was lacking in Heat and Flavor, it also seemed as if it was All day old. You can tell when Chicken and Shrimp are freshly cooked; this wasn't. This was a D for me. Bottom line, l will be back sometime in the future to see if things have improved.

Truly one of the best banh mi sandwiches I've had yet! I tried the combination pork and it was amazing and stuffed with delicious-ness. Juicy pork, crunchy bread that doesn't scrape the roof of your mouth, delicately pickled carrots. All the makings of a perfect banh mi. I also ordered a Vietnamese coffee and it was my first time trying it. I like that it's made authentically here but it was a little on the bitter side for me. I'm glad I tried it though because it sure gave me the energy boost I needed for the day! Very friendly and fast service, and my food and drink were packed efficiently for a to-go order. I quite liked the casual ambiance so it's a good spot for a meal with friends!

Delicious! Ordered these dishes for delivery and they did not disappoint. Five spice chicken garlic noodles (5/5) The five spice chicken was juicy and flavorful. There was a big portion of garlic noodles and it also came with a side salad. Pork belly sandwich (4/5) A loaded sandwich. There was a good amount of meat and vegetables. The pork belly was a bit on fattier than I like. The bread was a bit soggy likely due to it being delivered. It was a great meal and would order again!

Hair inside the Imperial Rolls!

There was hair inside our imperial rolls that came with our Saigon noodles! As another reviewer stated, the lemongrass beef wasn't grilled and the texture was like it came out of a crock pot.

It's a gloomy day and pho from here is hitting the spot right now. My coworker and I got a eye round steak pho and a crab noodle pho. And we both really enjoyed it! My eye round steak pho has the right amount of flavor and of course you have to add the jalapenos, lemon, basil for that extra hint of freshness. My coworker said her crab pho is just the right amount of spice. The wait wasn't long at all for our food too.

Excited to have a banh mi place in downtown south San Francisco! This is a solid place for banh mi! Don't be fooled by the reviews of the overuse of carrots. We shouldn't have such high standards for a banh mi. The carrots appear fresh and make for a juicy and fresh sandwhich as a banh mi should be.

Grilled Pork Vermicelli

Everytime I come here, Cafe Bunn Mi has been consistent and serves delicious food every time. I'd like to especially highlight their Banh Mi sandwiches since the priciest one on their menu still below $13 dollars which is rare these days. I love the fancy pork and crispy duck sandwiches. Bread is crispy and they are generous with fillings. Their vermicelli bowls are awesome. Special pho is good too but request the beef slices on the side if you are particular about that. A must try are also the crunchy nem rolls! Love the seating inside. It's an order than seat yourself type of place.

I ordered a combination pork Bunn mi and crunchy nem rolls. It was my first time going and I'm picky on my sandwiches . Over all everything was good to me I really liked my sandwiches and the crunchy nem rolls super good to me honestly kinda pricey on the rolls but it was worth it to me def will be coming back when I'm in the area.

We made our way to Millbrae and on to El Camino. We parked around the corner and were seated right away. It was a fairly busy Thursday night but we were glad we didnt have to wait. There was a rotating skewer-ready charcoal grill at each table and we ordered a variety of food. We ordered garlic oysters in the half-shell ($10.95). This was cooked in the kitchen and brought out. It was delicious. We ordered prawn skewers that were a big size and came one per skewer. We had Japanese wagyu ($25.95), prime beef ($6.95), pork jowl ($3.95), shitake mushroom ($2.95), chicken thigh ($2.95), pork sausage and marinated meat skewers. We enjoyed everything that came out. Service was great and attentive. It was pretty much one server for the entire restaurant so she was running around to all the tables... The meats were good and the ones that were pre-seasoned were good too. Otherwise the dipping sauces were tasty. They bring out the skewers little by little and you can place the cooked meats on this rack-like contraption that sits near the grill and eat them at your own pace. I really liked this concept. I would certainly go back again.

My husband and I had dinner here tonight, and overall it was a really memorable experience. We've…read moretraveled quite a bit and tried sushi in many different cities, including around the Los Angeles area where we live and have our favorite spots. So when we visit a sushi restaurant, we tend to evaluate everything as a whole -- price, quality, service, and of course the flavors. For dinner we ordered the Mango Tuna Roll (which was our first time trying a mango-style sushi roll), the 8-piece Omakase Nigiri, a Double Toro Roll, two pieces of Otoro, and a hot sake. With a 20% tip included, the total for the two of us came to $163.50, which honestly falls within the average range of what we usually spend for a sushi dinner like this. Normally we might pay around $120-$130 depending on the place, sometimes a little more if we add an extra item or two. The portion sizes were pretty standard. Not unusually large, but not small either -- similar to what we've experienced at many other sushi restaurants. Where this place really stood out was the depth of flavor. The quality and balance of the ingredients were excellent. At one point I actually caught myself closing my eyes just to focus on the taste, which is something I almost never do. The preparation felt very refined and the flavors were elevated, rich, and memorable. I would describe it as delicate portions with very elevated flavors. Because of that, I'm giving this place 5 out of 5 stars. This is the kind of restaurant that works perfectly for a nice dinner with your partner. It's not necessarily a place where you go wild ordering everything on the menu like at a taco spot. Instead, it's better to be thoughtful with what you choose and enjoy a few well-crafted dishes. You can easily have a special, enjoyable dinner here without going overboard. Definitely worth visiting if you're in the area and want a quality sushi experience with refined flavors. The only thing I felt was missing was a small welcome miso soup. In some sushi restaurants we've visited, they serve a tiny cup of miso with a couple pieces of tofu as a warm welcome. It's a very small gesture, but it creates a nice first impression and adds a sense of hospitality to the experience. Considering the quality and pricing of the menu here, a simple welcome miso soup would fit perfectly with the overall dining experience.

Glad I made a reservation on Sunday night for dinner as it did get a bit crowded. It is moderately sized. For 2, we ordered 2 appetizers and 2 sushi rolls. We got the eggplant, corn tempura, a mango salmon roll and a dragon roll. Everything came out quickly and was very fresh. I saw that the salmon roll was spicy but it was hardly spicy so that was a good thing for me. I enjoyed the corn tempura, perfectly crunchy and flavorful. The eggplant was also unique and tasty. It was enough food for two. Everything was a bit on the pricy side but the quality was there. Would come back to try other things and the omakase.
