My friend and I came in on a whim while driving home from UTD. The atmosphere is great and the food is reasonably priced especially for the quality but the real reason to visit is the staff. We had Cambria taking care of us and when I say you couldn't ask for s better server I mean it! She gave food recommendations (the Arturo chicken enchiladas were so good) we never had an empty drink and she was about the friendliest person you'll ever meet. We'll be back for sure and if you get a chance stop in and ask for her because you'll definitely have a great night out. read more

This place is AMAZING!!! I walked in one day not knowing they weren't open yet and the entire staff welcomed me and my friend. I have been coming here ever since and the food and customer service has still the same....phenomenal! I can not rave enough about the bartender Jamison!!! Not only is he the friendly, funny guy working the bar....he is also the friendly guy answering the phone placing the to go orders and serving them! Jamison has been the bartender since the first day I've walked in and still here to this day which speaks volumes to me! He is friendly, funny, personable, mannerly and makes everyone feel welcome! The place was packed on a Friday, which was surprising for a restaurant that just opened. The service was attentive, though there seemingly was a backlog at the bar, so it took awhile to get glasses of wine. I had the burger, which I thought was good. Someone else in our party had the quesadilla, which he said was good. The two others with us both had the steak sandwich, which they both said was pretty tasteless. Everyone liked the waffle fries and queso. Just be warned: the queso is pretty spicy. I think we'll likely be back to try more menu items. Two stars but only the second star because the food was so good, I would come back but the bartender was rude and seemingly biased to the older customers. I won't go into great detail but we basically got treated like he expected us to tip like trash even though I was dressed in my service industry clothes not to mention my tips start at 25% and go up. (I don't expect him to know that but having the same job as him I always assume every customer is a big tipper, equal service for everyone) I often face this problem with my girlfriend because we are young and both pretty small people so we can usually split a meal, so servers (and said bartender) give worse service. Unfortunately we felt very unwelcome there, and he made zero effort to help that fact. Which I don't understand, being a bartender I always make my customers feel as welcome as possible and make sure I can do anything to accommodate them or at least make them feel comfortable. I didn't ask for anything extra or out of the ordinary. Just good service. I left 28% despite the bad service, normally I would leave more, and anyone else would leave far less, but I figure it would make up for all the times I won't be coming back. read more

Cafe Gecko has a good vibe, everyone is friendly, and my server Marnaigh gave excellent service and good food/drink suggestions. I'm new to Richardson and have been eating at different places each night, but the atmosphere, food, drinks, service and people make this my favorite spot! I'll definitely be back. First time here and first experience is so so. Walked in and the place is nice with a huge bar and allot of tvs. Very casual place. I liked the floor how it was sparkling with glitter. Lol The menu is has a variety of choices from burgers, pizza, tacos, nachos etc. We ordered the queso and chips with beef in it and it was pretty good. It had chunks of meat and dices of chiles. It also came with salsa. I had ordered the chicken enchiladas. It came with beans and rice on the side. I didnt like the enchiladas. The meat inside was very hard and didnt look like chicken. It reminded me of a hard tamale filling. It was hard to cut with just my fork and had to cut it with my knife using force. The sour cream sauce however was pretty good. It had a tang to it and it was pretty tasty. I told the waitress that I didnt like the enchiladas wanted to order something else and she was nice about it asking what was wrong with it and wanted to see if they can cook it again for me or make it the way I liked it. I declined and decided to order something else on the menu. I decided to order beef quesadillas. The quesadillas was just ok. Nothing special. The meat looked like it was pan cooked, just bland. It had spinach cheese and mushrooms inside too. It didnt come with any other sides which was disappointing, only salsa and pico. My husband ordered the phili steak sandwich and came with waffle fries. It looked good but didnt taste it only stole a fry or two and it was crispy. My other friend ordered the burger and looked good and he said it was good. I also asked the waitress which entree is popluar and she said the queso, pizza, nachos. Overall the experience was ok not impressed by the food. This place is more of a quick hangout sports bar to have drinks and apps not so a restaurant. Not sure if I will come back but if I do I will just order the queso and avoid the beef quesadilla and chicken enchiladas. read more

came here on a whim and everything from the interior to the service was just GREAT! we came on a Monday evening so it was busy but not PACKED. they only had 1 server for all the tables so you felt kind of bad for her but she was managing just fine. speaking of which, the nicest person we've ever had the pleasure of meeting. her name was Trinity and took excellent care of us. always came over and asked if we needed anything or needed waters, she gave me the best drink recommendation (the pink hibiscus mixed drink). we tried the Listen Linda, the Bloody Mary, the Moscow Mule, Jack & Coke, and my now favourite pink drink. the bartender there makes really great drinks. I had a really good buzz going after just the first (Listen Linda) which was very nice. I'm not a big fan of alcohol but the two I tried were VERY very tasty. ok so now, the food. I want to die after taking a bite out of the sour cream nachos. it was like heaven in my mouth. they put a very generous amount of cheese and sour cream and the flavour was just so great! I would come back just for these nachos tbh. the pizza my bf recommended. he loves it but I wasn't the biggest fan. don't get me wrong, it was still amazing, the cheese had a nice pull, the toppings were fresh, I just wish it had a bit more sauce and spread out to the edges more. some pieces I had were 50% bread crust, which I didn't mind because the nachos were so good and filling but it would've been nice to have a less "dry" bite. I would definitely order again tho. total bill came out to $63 (including tax) which is amazing considering all that we ordered. 5 drinks and nachos and a 14" inch pizza. like, wow. Overall, 11/10 for the service, 9.5/10 for the food. highly highly recommend this place to everyone. we will be returning again very soon and hope to see Trinity again next time! read more

Joined friends to watch the Texas vs. TCU game, our 1st time in. I have been to the original Cafe Gecko and have always been a fan. Ted and his staff has continued to make a great atmosphere for the neighborhoods they support. Sharde was our waitress and took great care of our "rowdy" table. The kitchen is solid, I enjoyed an Angus Burger that was cooked perfect and the waffle fries were great. We will be back! read more

Great atmosphere and an eclectic menu - burgers with this awesome jalapeno bun, quesadillas with mushrooms and spinach, sour cream chicken nachos, and great salads just to name a few. And the pizza! This place has it going on! Indoor / Outdoor seating, heated outside for pure comfort! The menu is the same as the Gecko in Addison, which has forever been a tasty favorite! The bar is very lively & the waitstaff is excellent. These Ladies here know what's going on & they're running this place like veterans! Oh & it's Non Smoking! Moving daughter back into UTD led us to this happy discovery. We arrived around 5:00 for an early dinner. The place was practically empty and we made our way to the far end of the restaurant after maneuvering through a pile of political signs and a half dozen people taking over the entrance as they readied for a political rally at the restaurant??!! We were hesitant about what our dinner might be like, but the bold and sassy (in a great way) waitress promised to keep them out of our dinner space. haha -- she did! The food!! It was surprisingly wonderful. Our daughter had the most incredibly smooth and tasty shrimp and mushroom enchiladas covered in a velvety cream sauce, white cheese and a fan of thinly sliced avocado. She was instantly in love and she is very difficult to impress with food. I had the Seafood Pasta salad cold. Well prepared shrimp and crab flakes alongside rotini pasta cooked al dente (as it should for cold salad) with a tangy vinaigrette style sauce. Perfection! Hubby had 3 beautifully prepared chicken tacos and they both really liked the unique rice that accompanied their plates. I would have easily given it 5 stars if not for the somewhat pushy political folks overtaking the restaurant. 5 stars for our sassy waitress for keeping them away after they hit our table. They were pushy, but she pushed back. We tipped her accordingly. Shame on management for allowing this but kudos to our waitress and the amazing dinner. We left as quickly as possible but will be back when we visit UTD again. read more
