Went into Cafe Kopi in hopes of getting my milk tea fix. Milk tea was not very good. It was very watered down and was more tea than milk taste. Employee was nice enough to change it up and made me a chai tea instead. I had requested to add condensed milk to sweeten it. The chai tea was a tad bite better but still watered down and not creamy/milky like how I'm used to when getting them at other coffee shops. Dessert: I got the lilikoi cheesecake. It wasn't like a creamy cheesecake. It was more dry and crumbly like brownie and cheesecake texture. Sad to say that if I was craving milk tea around the area, I would pass up on this location. Came here while I was waiting for my engine oil to get changed at the nearby Goodyear. This is a cute little place across the street from the hardware store. They have a couple of tables out front on the sidewalk and a bunch in the back which feels a lot less cramped. There's also seating indoors. And since they have the front and back doors open the whole time there was plenty of air flow inside in case you're concerned from a COVID perspective. I got the Kopi Peng (Singaporean iced coffee) and the pain au chocolat. The coffee was good but nothing special. It just tasted like a regular, albeit quality, iced coffee with cream and sugar. I'm not sure which part makes it Singaporean... The pastry was bomb though. Buttery and flaky. Chocolate was nice and melted. And with powdered sugar on top. I've got a KOPIous amount of love for this place. I discovered this place by way of one of my Instagram foodie friends. She had become a regular in such a short amount of time, so my BFF and I had to see what the hype was about. Going towards Lanikai on Kihapai Street, you'll see a dark grey line of shops on your right. Directly before the shops is a narrow driveway where parking is FREE for customers of Cafe Kopi and neighboring shops. You can enter the back of the cafe from the parking lot, or if you are unable to locate the driveway like my BFF and I were, you can enter from the front of the shop after finding metered street parking. I appreciate that Cafe Kopi has a diverse menu of coffee, tea, and savory and sweet baked goods. I LOVE that they have signature laksa on the weekends and that they have puppiccino all days of the week for your fur baby to enjoy. *Jeanne's fave (vanilla lavender latte; $6.75 for an iced 16 oz cup): really creamy with a subtle lavender flavor. *kopi peng (Singapore iced coffee; $6 for 16 oz): prepared with condensed milk, this is a sweet and creamy treat. *cubano croissant ($6.50): the BEST FREAKING CROISSANT I'VE EVER HAD IN MY LIFE. no lie, this is EPIC! Stuffed with juicy and smoky kalua pork, BBQ sauce, mozzarella, and pickle, then twice-baked, it's sure to induce tears of joy. *pumpkin spice croissant ($6.50): stuffed with pumpkin pie filling, this is bound to make you squeal in delight. *Chinese dumplings with pork and veggies ($8 for 6 pieces): so juicy! The presentation is also spot on with the beautiful plate, sweet chili sauce, and savory dipping sauce. *Chinese vegan dumplings with mushroom and tofu ($8 for 6 pieces): same sentiment as the non-vegan version. Definitely not missing out if you're not fond of meat. Dine-in with WiFi is available, just as long as you show proof of COVID vaccination or a negative COVID test taken within 48 hours of your visit. I have mixed feelings about this place, but absolutely needed to come after reading about it in Honolulu Magazine. I love laksa and those flavors! I stopped by this Sunday after a hike and the line was out the door. Parking in their lot was easy, and the wait was reasonable. I ordered the laksa, the almond croissant, ham and cheese croissant, and Singaporean coffee. While the sign said the wait would be about 20-25 minutes for laksa, it was out in maybe 7-8. I ended up waiting longer for my other items, but enjoyed soaking in the atmosphere and also got to hang out with my dog in doors. The place was very busy and thankfully has a good array of outdoor seating. Tables seemed to turn over quickly, so don't let that discourage you. I ended up ripping into the almond croissant on my drive home - it was SOOO GOOD. I don't even think you can call it a breakfast pastry...it's so rich!! It was sooo divine - super buttery, tender crumbs, an almond filling that actually oozed it was so butter loaded, and lots of sugar. I THOROUGHLY enjoyed it. The laksa was tasty and still very piping hot when I got home, though the soup was a limited likely from it soaking through the noods. Overall, the food was good, but I don't live close, and even if I did, the pricing is a little hard to swallow. $18 for a bowl of laksa, and a $2 up charge for rice noodles? I love rice noods but couldn't justify a $20 bowl for take out that I drove 20 minutes to get myself. The croissant at $6 I guess is reasonable for Hawaii...and given how delicious and butter-laden it was...that actually is about the pricing for Hawaii. If I were in the area, I'd probably get it, but I definitely wouldn't make this a very regular thing. $6 for the Singaporean coffee - was tasty, but I doubt you'd know it was "Singaporean coffee" because there wasn't anything about it that distinguished it from "a good iced coffe". Given all that...I'd come again, but it's not a "lunch spot" - it's more of an event. And I'd share a bowl of noods and get the rest of my lunch somewhere else. Like I couldn't believe I spent nearly $50 at a cafe for lunch take out for two and didn't even get two entrees. I'm wondering how the menu will evolve as the hype declines. I certainly would come back again for the pastries, which are incredible. Additionally, Malaysian food is a rare treat on the island and it was good, but a trip to Cafe Kopi is definitely a splurge. read more

I was excited to try the Laksa noodles here, but the $18 Laksa turned out to be a bit disappointing. First of all, I couldn't believe my eyes when I saw the amount of soup. Was I wrong to hope to be served a full bowl of soup? In fact, there was so little soup in my bowl, I couldn't even see it in there! However, the presentation was nice with boiled egg, plump shrimps (4 of them!!!) and fried tofu on the noodles. Disappointingly, my first bite was quite sad as the noodles were lukewarm. Although the soup had the perfect spiciness, the serving temperature made the whole food experience disappointing. Above average cafe food, operationally challenged. Won't return. Came around Sunday noon where there were two parties in front of us. We waited a while for our turn to order, and waited another 20 minutes for our take-out order to be ready. The woman only handed us one item from the order and had no idea where the other things were. She was fumbling around before discovering our cheesecake in a box and bread pudding sitting in the microwave. Clearly a mom and pop shop that doesn't have their operations in order. I honestly have no patience for that even if the food is better than what it is. Food wise - Singaporean laksa is good but definitely not worth $18 for the flavor or portion. Trying out a new spot in Kailua! It is super cute. Owned by a couple that moved here from Singapore. Pastries baked in-house, coffee, and on the weekends they do Asian comfort food including Laksa! Plus they've got local artists featured on the wall and you can purchase the artwork. Very open and friendly space. There's tables out front, tables in the back, and some tables inside. A place and food that is closer to home.... we just had to try it since we cannot really get laksa here in Hawaii. Jeanne and Ernest are very down to earth and am thankful for them and Cafe kopi. Their Laksa is tasty and ingredients are fresh as you can see the big shrimp in the pic. I am happy to sing the praises of this newly opened cafe in Kailua. My favorite part of this cafe is the space -- ample seating indoors and outdoors with fast WiFi and comfy chairs. Baristas are very friendly and there's this whole neighborhood coffee shop vibe that makes the space feel very homey. I've had both their hot and iced Kona coffee--it's good but a bit strong. I prefer something a little smoother. However, their croissants are fabulous. It is a bit pricey though. My order for two croissants and two coffees came out to $25, although I feel like that's a fair trade for a nice place to sit and work. There aren't a lot of family-owned coffee shops on the Windward side, so this place is a real gem. read more

This place is absolutely magical. Trendy decor, fun music, and plenty of seating (indoor and out). By FAR my favorite coffee place. The owners are so friendly and passionate about their drinks/food ... with good reason... it's all superb. I've had just about every drink on the menu at this point with my favorites being the Matcha Cocoa Latte and the Jeanne's Favorite Latte (lavender and vanilla). Their drinks are impeccable; great espresso, yummy flavors, and perfectly steamed milk. Not to mention the cute little touches with the latte art. If you eat anything here, make it the almond croissant. It's HEAVENLY. It's the perfect amount of sweet with a blissful almond filling. You will find yourself craving it. There is street parking which can get dicey, but it's worth taking the time to find a spot. Thank god I'm local to it, but if you're visiting ... do not leave Hawaii without stopping this place. read more

I stopped in here with my son, looking for a light lunch and something sweet. I really wanted to like this place but our experience was rather lackluster. We got a strawberry cream croissant and a fried egg sandwich on an olive focaccia. The croissant looked delicious but upon first cut, it was very.... crunchy and thick, like it had been overbaked. Though the filling was delightful, we didn't finish it. The sandwich was okay. The flavors were decent but the bread was dry and crumbly and there was an abundance of mustard, or something sharp. It could have used an aioli or greens to balance it out. It only had egg, cheese, and tomato. I also got a coffee, a latte, which was really great. The service is the main reason for this rating. It was a super slow time and the employees were on their phones or hiding behind the prep station and chatting or just standing around staring out the window. I wouldn't have noticed or even cared if I didn't have to come up to remind them about my pastry and coffee or if they didn't ask me to come get my food and to clean up my own table. They weren't rude about it at all--it was just a turnoff that they'd ask me to do everything myself while they were standing around doing nothing. If it were a really busy day, sure, I'd get that. I'd be open to giving this place another try, maybe it was an off day. read more

*Oh, HELL yeah!* Looking back over my reviews, I realize I generally am moved to review when service or food quality or something like that is less than optimal. Not so with Cafe Kopi. This place is awesome. Truly. Right now I'm sipping my cold brew coffee (delicious), having just consumed a likewise delicious plate of Singapore-style Chinese dumplings (so good). The music here is pumping -- the sound system is amazing -- and the vibe in here is just incredible. Cafe Kopi is a Southeast Asia style coffee house. Lots of great pastries (the croissants, baked here, are huge and delicious), and connoisseur-level coffees, just like any good American coffee shop. But they also serve great cooked meals,including Singaporean laksa on Saturdays (or maybe weekends? Not sure bout that). You can come for a whole feast, stop in and snack, or fuel up on coffee and hit the road. There's plenty of seating, a very modern, open layout, and a great ambience. That ambience is only amplified by the amazing staff -- dedicated, friendly, and working for your enjoyment. The hosts, Ernest and Jeanne, are usually on hand too, enthusiastic and eager to chat if they have a sec. We've tried a ton of coffee places in Kailua (ChadLou's, Morning Brew, The Collective, etc.) but Cafe Kopi is the best by far. We've always had an amazing experience and the employees are the friendliest we've seen. The owners are so sweet and welcoming! The space just makes you feel good while drinking amazing coffee. So happy to have found this new little café in Kailua! Hands down the best laksa I've ever eaten, including trips to Malaysia and Singapore...SO 'ono and worth the trip from town on weekends to snatch it up! The rainbow lattes are beautiful and I love that they're in support of Hawai'i Health and Harm Reduction Center through Oct 17 for pride month My lavender matcha latte was perfect and rich with high quality matcha. On my first visit on this past Tuesday, I met Ernest and Jeanne, the owners and they are so friendly and welcoming! I had their bread pudding and it was the best I've ever had! It has chocolate in it too! Today, I went back to try their curry laksa and again, it was so delish...made me think of the Singapore food I've been missing! Their soft opening was 5 days ago. They are an international cafe inspired by eclectic Asia. Owners, Ernest and Jeanne are super friendly, moved from Singapore and first time cafe owners. Their hours are currently 7am-11am and close on Mondays, but they are working on expanding as they get used to their business. I didn't think I could make it out until the weekend but I drove down this morning to support new local business! The owners were at the front door when I walked in. I ordered their iced cafe mocha and their croissant as I was told they are super yummy. I chatted with Jeanne while my coffee is being made. They are working on their menu and will eventually add Singapore comfort foods! I am extremely excited for that! The iced mocha was strong and their croissant was crispy on the outside and super buttery and soft on the inside. I haven't had freshly made croissant like this in a long time. You cannot compare the croissant to Safeway or Foodland! You have to try it to appreciate! I will have to come back to try their other pastries and their pomelo iced tea, and definitely visit when they introduce their Singappre comfort food menu! P.S. they are also trying to do good with the environment by providing bamboo disposable straws. Wow! The food is incredible! I had a vegetable croissant in the morning and a delicious chai and then came back for the laksa in the afternoon. The croissant had really nice flavors and a bit of spice. And the chai was homemade, not from a syrup. And laksa. OMG. What a medley of flavors . The cafe owners took the time to bring my friend and I our food. I got great suggestions, since I had never been and mostly frequent town Honolulu restaurants, from the staff. Since I was there in the weekend, they advised to get the Laksa since it's only served on the weekends. It did not disappoint. I've travelled at length in both Singapore and Malaysia, and to me, the laksa is on point! I loved the look of the pastries (I'm on a small diet) and my friend had the vegetarian dumplings which she loved. We got to sit outside, which is lovely, and preferred for me with that cozy, small town cafe feel. You almost feel like you've been transported to another world. Highly recommend. read more

I agree with some of the reviews because it can be slow for food items but the women that work there are grear with customer service. This is an awesome spot to hangout and relax so stop by for food on a day you have a bit of time to sit down. If you're just stopping by for a quick coffee and pastry, the wait shouldn't be a problem. Their pastries are absolutely amazing. The lilikoi cheesecake, cream croissants, cream horns, and fruit tarts are ABSOLUTE must haves. Cafe Kopi hands down has some of my favorite pastries on island. I can't say that I would order their sandwich again because it was on the dry side but I'm looking forward to trying their other food items. A huge plus is that this cafe is DOG FRIENDLY! Love that. My pups vet is on Kailua side so its perfect for us to stop by after his vet visits. They also have a puppaccino! It's just a small cup of whipped creamed with a treat on top. There's also a dog bowl provided in the dine-in area. Overall atmosphere of this cafe is casual and I appreciate the many different artworks displayed in the cafe as well. read more

The VEGAN dumplings (do you know how hard it is to find those ?!) were my favorite!! They were freshly made with two kinds of mushrooms which added to the great texture and flavor. Very local. Gets busy and I mean line outside the door packed. Usually I go around the corner and sit outside this one spot, but I went here one morning and the line was out the door! So I said OK I'll try this! Grabbed coffee, a croissant and another bread item, and nestled myself onto a chair. People seemed nice. Owner and her husband were both there; he was on the computer and she was serving soup and dishing out other food. I said HI and very nice people. Welcoming and kind. I'll go back real soon and hopefully I can find a table and enjoy my coffee. Not that I didn't enjoy my coffee, I did! It was just hustle and bustle, and super busy! Good them I day!
