My boyfriend kept asking about foods he saw on their Yelp page and I think the owner got a little annoyed because he kept having to tell us it's not in their revised menu (I think that could be our fault though ). I got a spaghetti with shrimp and tomato sauce dish and thought it was extremely sub par-- tasted kind of like a microwaved box dinner. However, their hot drinks are super cute if you dine in. I would come here for their drinks again, but definitely not for their food. There were many people there who were studying and I'm impressed they can when it's pretty loud. Drinks: I ordered the lavender earl grey iced tea. Was not impressed. It simply tasted like Lipton ice tea unsweetened to me. I was trying really hard to find the tasting notes of lavender and earl grey ... but was met with disappointment. They accompany their drinks with a petite dessert, which mines came with a creme puff. Not too sweet, which was good for me. Food: I ordered the strawberry waffle. Their waffle mix is pretty solid. When the Arcadia location got closed, I was pretty bummed because I loved the food and drinks there. Well, I was able to come here for a lunch date with a friend and the quality of the food here is great. It can get pretty busy during lunch hours, so I recommend going right when it opens, otherwise you'll find yourself waiting in line, or sitting at your table waiting for some time before you can order or when your food arrives. I ordered the pesto basil panini along with a green tea latte. The sandwich was pretty yummy along with the latte. The presentation of both choices were really cute and Instagram worthy. My friend ordered some truffle Parmesan fries, which were pretty delicious and filling. Prices can be a bit steep. Service can be a bit slow during busy hours. Plenty of parking. This is the cutest cafe I have been to in LA area (and I've been to Japan so 'cute' had high standards) I loved the decor, very cute, very clean and bright and sunny. The ambiance was perfect for our afternoon date- not too loud and decent music. We had the affogato, latte and iced lavender lemonade. The latte was great and the affogato was good. The iced lavender lemonade was a bit too tarty to be honestly. It was super cool though! They had a unique idea of having cotton candy on top of the glass and having the customer pour lavender syrup onto it so it would melt and sweeten the drink. I loved the idea of chemistry breaker and the cute cups and mugs they used! All in all, wonderful experience and good stuff. Located in an unassuming location in Artesia and across the street from Cerritos, Cafe Maji won't disappoint cafe goers who want to study or have a little gab session with their friends. Parking is ample here at all hours. It is also right off the 91 freeway, Norwalk exit. Their menu is extensive! It includes every drink I could think of and they were able to customize a vanilla latte into a soy vanilla latte with two espresso shots. I got a drink that was lukewarm (should have asked for it piping hot), but strong enough to keep a conversation going. The bulgogi quesadilla was interesting, and fun to have. At four cute slices, it was a nice one to split and douse with sour cream. The bulgogi flavor wasn't really there, but it was still very much a quesadilla. What stands out here is customer service and the decor. It is an amalgamation of what lives in the shadows of trendy Los Angeles, or rather a cafe that isn't overdoing their drinks or keeping up with a chic trend. Rather, it brings together elements of homely tchotchkes and (now standard) warm wood furniture. I always come here with friends every time we visit LA because of the cute and delicious food options. We've had the rainbow cake, which was very unique. Each color of the cake had its own distinct flavor and the consistency is very dense--it's similar to cake pop. As for their drinks, passion fruit tea lemonade was refreshing! It came in a HUGE glass, as shown in the pic, and I couldn't finish it. The workers there are attentive and kind, which is always a plus. One thing they can improve on is having better seat options for large parties. This place was my first bookmark on Yelp when I first started, and I FINALLY got the chance to try it. Unfortunately, it wasn't as great as I was hoping. First off, the service was incredibly slow. I've been here twice and never had to wait to be seated. This cafe is adorable and I came here literally just for the latte art. I was surprised to see that they had so many food options as well. FOOD: Matcha Latte - The bear latte art was cute. I like how they add a cream puff to the side. The tea itself wasn't anything extraordinary. It was just a typical green tea latte. Maji Burger - This was surprisingly tasty and flavorful. I did not expect it to be that good. They even use seaweed (I think) to make your bun look like a bear face. I would order this again. White Truffle and Parmesan Cheese Fries - Again, nothing extraordinary. I thought it was good, but way over priced at $9. SERVICE: The servers here are nice. You have to get your own water. My only complaint is that the food comes out really slow. Both times I came here the food took about 30 minutes to come out. Really friendly/great customer service - sad that we can't all sit in cafes and enjoy long conversations over large cups of coffee, but I'm still grateful that I'm able to pick up a nice cup of coffee from adorable places like Cafe Maji. They sell all kinds of different coffees/teas/drinks, so you'll definitely find something for everyone (think honey citron tea, earl gray lattes, lavender lattes, tiramisu lattes). I got the hazelnut latte (apparently the french latte, hazelnut latte, and the rose latte are the three most popular lattes!), and it was so good! Not too sweet, but there was a great, roasted hazelnut flavor. My drink came out to around ~$5.25 before tip. I would definitely recommend dropping in any time you want a little pick-me-up - even stepping into this cafe will immediately cheer you up. Cute decorations and interesting drink selection, but the food was lacking. Stopped by on a weekend for lunch, quickly seated and ordered. Two entree items were selected, the Mushroom Burger and the Bulgogi Panini. The Mushroom Burger was a larger version of an In-N-Out burger with some mushrooms on top. The patty was large, dominating the burger (too high burger patty to toppings ratio), and was also barely seasoned. The mushrooms came with limited brown sauce, and also barely added any flavor (if I did not see the mushrooms I would not have known they were on there). The strongest flavor was the sauce, very similar to a Thousand Island dressing. I asked for more and this did increase satisfaction, but could not completely salvage the flavor in my opinion. Elote came as a side with the burger. This was a 1/2 cobb with some crema, a little bit of spice powder, and some oaxaca cheese sprinkled on top. Here the cheese was the dominant flavor, and I would have liked there to be more heat. The Bulgogi Panini was a large panini, and came with a side of kale salad, and jalapenos and honey on the side. The panini tasted like a Philly Cheesesteak rather than bulgogi. Here the jalapenos are useful for taking the flavor up a notch. I am unsure what the honey was for, I tried it on the panini and it added the flavor of honey though I did not see it combining with the existing savory flavor. The Kale Salad had Italian dressing, some tomatoes, and Parmesan cheese. This was satisfactory and healthy, and with the panini is enough for a meal. I was sad to hear the lil cafe maji was closed but when I heard about this location- I was thrilled to try it out as soon as I could! I came with a bud on a weekend afternoon & the place had a decent crowd. The space itself is larger than the other one so I liked that a lot. And it also reminded me of those cute cafes you see in anime/manga.. I thought it was very nicely decorated. We were sat immediately and menus were presented to us. The menu is a cute little booklet detailing various food and drink options, along with the prices. Pricing is a little steep here. But for the most part, it's worth. I ordered the waffle with Nutella & strawberry. I was pleasantly surprised with the portion & it was very filling. I was satisfied with the taste and temperature of the dessert. This is a magical place of good eats and desserts. It is a cute little cafe that is nicely decorated with old fashioned knick-knacks and anime. It is cozy and it serves delicious comfort foods. The cafe is inside a shopping center and it has a parking lot. It can be busy on weekends in the afternoon. There is street parking available around the corner. The inside of the cafe is clean and well kept. They have a restroom available for paying customers. Staff is attentive and are quick to take your order. There's a water dispenser available which is nice when you get overwhelmed with all the sugar. Now to the good part...the food. I have been to Cafe Maji a couple of times and have always ordered dessert. I wanted to try the food and I ordered the spicy chipotle chicken panini. It comes with chicken, bell peppers, onion, chipotle sauce, and mozzarella cheese. The whole plate comes with a side of honey and a small kelp salad. The panini bread has almonds baked on top of it. The sandwich was really good and flavorful. When you combine the sandwich with honey it turns sweet and spicy. The kelp salad was fresh and it was mixed with a light dressing. My friend and I stopped by for dessert after brunch and found the place to be fairly quiet/empty on a Saturday afternoon. Typical cafe vibes with plenty of seating areas, free WiFi and outlets (although I did appreciate how bright and spacious it was). Literally the perfect place to study, catch up with friends, or just chill. Our latte's came in a wide mug with, of course, their signature latte art - a bear! A single cream puff also came out on the side which was a nice touch. Matcha Latte: A little weak on the matcha, but still pretty good (4/5) Rainbow Cake: Korean-style whip cream so it's airy and light unlike the typical cake creams where it's unbelievably thick and way too sweet. The rainbow cake had the perfect level of sweetness imo but also it really just tastes like moist cake (4/5) Matcha Tiramisu: Green all around and was also topped with light, airy whip cream. Again, very moist. Doesn't have a strong tiramisu or green tea taste to it which was disappointing (3/5) The drinks/desserts all around were way too cute to eat and I'll give them points for creativity and design; however, nothing really jumped out at me. Cafe Maji is definitely Instagram-Worthy and if you want to spend $33 on two lattes and two cakes then by all means go right ahead. Gave him 5 mins until I had to go up to the counter to ask for water and he said to himself 'Jesus...' Is your customer a burden to you? Maybe you were understaffed and under lots of stress and pressure but you don't say that in front of a customer. A good customer service is being friendly at all times not just when you have the leisure to do so. Not sure why this Cafe has such high rating. Giving 2 stars because the food we ordered was decent. This place has the same feel as kawaii cafes I've been to in Japan (although this is Korean owned). There is an eclectic collection of kitschy and cutie-cute stuff on walls and shelves around the cafe - from teddy bears peeking out of baskets to Doraemon and Popeye figurines; from a 1960s era 8mm film projector to a full-size organ of the same decade. This review covers two visits, one where I enjoyed a sweet item off the menu and the second a savory item. On both visits I was told to take a seat anywhere. There are many tables of assorted sizes. In a cafe filled with 20+ Asian customers this old white guy stood out like a sore thumb. On my first visit I ordered a hazelnut latte and a nutella-banana waffle. The latte had a great taste and I enjoyed it immensely (including the foam art of the bear). I also loved the complimentary cream puff (this coming from a fellow who normally doesn't care for cream puffs). The warm waffle tasted wonderful with the melted nutella covering the surface and topped with whipped cream and banana slices. Fantastic! It filled me up and probably is suppose to be shared by two people. My second visit I ordered an irish cream latte (loved it) and once again enjoyed the complimentary cream puff. I also ordered the spicy chipotle pastrami sandwich. The sandwich arrived with green olives on the toothpicks that pierced the panini grilled bread as well as a ramakin of fresh watermelon cubes. Now this wasn't one of those "stacked high" pastrami sandwiches that you'd get at those iconic delis but still it was an excellent sandwich. The warm, quality pastrami was enhanced by the crisp lettuce, juicy tomato, crunchy pickles and spicy peppers. Don't expect a hot-spicy sandwich, just enough to give a little kick. To be honest I didn't expect Cafe Maji to deliver a sandwich this good. Service was prompt and attentive. I found all the servers to be very charming. Good food and fun atmosphere. My friends and I came here for dessert after dinner not too long ago. Café Maji is a coffee shop that serves up desserts with an artistic flare. It's a warm and inviting place. We had a Parisian cake, snow affogato, and waffle. The Parisian cake was fairly dry coming out of the refrigerated section. Not sure if this was house made did remind me of the version from Porto's Bakery. The waffle with ice cream, caramel, and whipped cream was good but nothing special. The snow affogato was unique and more presentation than anything else. It a foot or so of cotton candy piled high over ice cream with espresso poured over. Cool concept but nothing special in regards to flavor. Overall, the service was just okay. The artsy dessert/drinks without any unique taste do come at a premium at Café Maji. So far these guys are at about a 3.5 in my book, but I will round it to a four. I was quite frustrated with my first visit. My husband and I got drinks and dessert. We should have ordered only one waffle because these things are massive! He had a strawberry lemonade and I had a lavender latte. I was a little disappointed in my latte as other places serve this flavor better. However they serve them in cute pitchers and even give you a complimentary creme puff. The waffles were big and gave us sugar overloads. I had some oreo ice cream one and he had the tiramisu. He really enjoyed his. The biggest annoyance here is that you have to hunt them down for the bill. That drives me crazy at places. We tried and tried. I should have just walked up to the counter at this point. Then as they were closing they handed out about twenty bills to all the customers like they were rushing to get you out. Seriously? You were holding me up, not the other way around. While I complained about that to a friend she asked me to give them another shot. She enjoys going there and only lives a few houses away. She mentioned that she has to do this every time. What the heck? We went for lunch and I had a better experience. I tried out their club sandwich and their green apple lemonade. Very good and light on my stomach! I was pleased with this and enjoyed the freshness of the ingredients. She hunted them down as expected but we got out much quicker. On a recent visit we went again and I was disappointed to see that the sandwiches are MIA. They now had a list of various burgers, and the pastas and quesadillas were still there as well as some desserts. We both ordered a burger, and like most places these days, they do not come with sides. I hate that. They were pricey burgers too, but came in wagyu beef. They come in with a cute bear face on the bun. She had the onion burger with lots of onion rings stacked on top and I had the Maji burger. So my later visits were better. I am more of a fan now. They do tend to only check on you once after you get your food so be prepared. Most times you have to hunt them down for the bill but this last time we got the bill without asking and in a timely manner after we were done eating. I an hoping this issue is fixed. The menu tends to rotate so be prepared. I never got to try the lavender or blueberry lemonades but maybe one day it will come back. I also hope the sandwiches come back. I may have to try the s'mores mocha latte as well. The looks of the items are cute here, but they are pricey too. Ordered a iced French Vanilla latte with oat milk. It was perfect. Not too sweat, and not to milked down. Excellent and very good vanilla flavor. WOW! This is literally the CUTEST CAFE I've ever been to!!!! The way they decorated this whole place just screams cuteness overload but at the same time, it's fresh, clean, and tasteful! I wish this place existed during my student days. I would have studied here all the time! I'm very impressed by their latte art. The bear on my friend's green tea latte was SO cute! It made me want to get one too even though it was a freakin hot summer day. However, I resisted and got the Summer Cooler instead (I think that's what it was called)? It was very refreshing and it even came with a mini cream puff! How cute is that! Note: put the whole cream puff in your mouth. Don't try to be dainty and take small bites because you will end up with custard on your lap like me. If it's your first time here, definitely get the SNOW AFFOGATO!! It comes as vanilla ice cream with a mound of cotton candy on top. You pour the espresso over it and watch the cotton candy melt and disintegrate like magic. The presentation is fun and unique and it tastes yummy too! They also have a few food items here like sandwiches and quesadillas if you're hungry, but there isn't a huge variety. I've had their first store in Arcadia bookmarked for the longest time, and have never been able to drive all that way. But I found Cafe Maji on the new businesses open on Yelp, and had to go check it out! LOCATION: Across the street from Chodang Tofu House on the corner of Norwalk and Artesia. They're also a Buster's Ice Cream in this plaza. Parking wasn't a problem at all on a Tuesday evening. +++ Green tea latte, $5.25 +++ Came with a bear in my latte, eeek! A little complimentary cream puff as well. +++ Hazelnut latte, $4.50 +++ Perfect blend of sweetness and espresso +++ Rose latte, $4.50 +++ Had a hint of rose. I'm ambivalent about this one. My wife brought me here because she said it was a really cute date spot and we wanted some hot cocoa. Well for $8.25 for a 10 oz hot cocoa we expected something amazing, but it was swiss miss. No whip cream or marshmallows either. If you see this place and see photos of little cups with little faces in them. All that is gone even when ordering things "for here" everything comes in a to-go cup. She later told me that everything has changed since the last time she was there. Gone were the menus that look like storybooks or and cozy ambience it felt like a study hall since at least 80% of the clientele were students and on their laptops. Everything seemed overpriced. The menu was especially hard to look at since everything looked like walls of texts and menu items were separated by slashes (/). I wish it was as good as I was told but even she said she regretted sitting down after seeing th replace. $16 was too much for 2 hot chocolate packets. It was Disneyland prices without the quality. This cute little cafe opened few years ago & I've only been here 1-2 times. However, I decided to stop by not too long ago & I'm so glad I did! The owner is the sweetest man. We ordered 3 drinks, and all of them were super refreshing! We also got a waffle which was probably one of the best I've had. I would compare it to Jamba Juice's belgium waffles but on crack. The cutest coffee/tea cafe in Cerritos/Artesia area! When they were opened prior covid, this place was always packed with students and people hanging out. It's unfortunate it's not as busy because of covid but people can shop at the mall with hundreds of people.. makes no sense to me. I hope you can give this place a visit for togo orders because their food is still delicious! My favorite is the Alfredo chicken bacon pasta, their lemonade with cotton candy is unavailable for togo but that is the best lemonade drink and and they have the best presentation. This is an Asian cafe so that means they always have cute and creative ways to decorate. Support local small business!! read more
