Cafe Maspero was such a good breakfast stop for us in New Orleans. It's more diner-style breakfast food, but everything we had was really good. My husband ordered the beef corned hash, and I got the breakfast plate with eggs, sausage, and a biscuit. The biscuit was honestly one of my favorite parts of the meal. Perfect breakfast after a night of drinking. We also offer bottomless Bloody Marys and mimosas too. It was such a nice way to start our day before walking around the city. Ok. I have had two very strong experiences with Cafe Maspero. Let's start with the good... The first time I went it was amazing, GENIUNELY great. I think I had the chicken and pancakes and I was not expecting amazing food. I was wrong! It was delicious, and we were served by the woman with the glasses and ponytail who was really sweet and she was very attentive and awesome! We were served our food very quickly super fast I mean, and I love how in the restaurant you can see the people walking and the ambiance is great! The food was great and I insisted on coming back here for our second trip to New Orleans! I thought about this restaurant long after leaving. Had I not come back, this would have been a five star review. I came back yesterday. I was so excited! The ambiance is still great and it is an amazing location. Some servers were very chatty and attentive. However, the server we got was NOT good. At all. Like at all. Usually I don't really care about service, it doesn't make or break my experience. This was the only time where the service has fully like broke my experience in a restaurant. I watched as tables that came after us had super sweet and nice servers that were very attentive. Our waitress literally got our drinks and didn't come back until 15 minutes later. She didn't take our order until another 20 minutes. No joke, and I was so confused like what in the world is going on? Yes it was busy, but I literally saw our waitress in the back of the restaurant just chatting and the other tables with the other waitresses already eating while we didn't even HAVE drinks. I was really frustrated, it was a really bad start to the morning. And the food I remember last time was delicious, I mean great! This time, mediocre, not that good. Actually my dad really disliked his burger and my chicken and pancakes was just alright. Again, the waitress took a really long time to do anything, we were sitting without drinks for a ridiculous amount of time and she didn't take our order for a while, and she never refilled our drinks and barely checked up on our table. We had somewhere to be, so this wasn't fun and made me really frustrated. The one time a different waitress actually came over, she was sweet and was such a relief. In summary, I have no clue what in the world happened between the end of March and the end of May 2026, but I really loved Cafe Maspero, not anymore. Please fix it! read more

Cafe Maspero is one of those places where it really matters what you order. This last time I got a shrimp poboy and it was fine but the french bread they use is tough. I've had the seafood platter there and that was good, but its hard to mess up fried food. The gumbo, jambalaya and pastalaya are not good. I'm not sure they know what they're doing with that stuff but it is New Orleans trying to be cajun so that's pretty much par for the course. I love the interior though and the waitresses are always friendly. I'll go back and try some other things at some point it's just not first on my list of places to visit in the Quarter. read more

Amazing fried catfish! Very nice servers! My friends loved the lemon drop cocktails. I had a unsweetened ice tea with lemon. I would come back for the food. The host had walked away without explaining that we needed to follow her, I believe a more welcoming approach would had been helpful. I'm glad we came here during our trip to New Orleans. The food was good, and ambiance is nice because it's right in the French quarter. There wasn't a wait but we waited to be served water and food. The food took a long time to get to us, and we noticed others who came in after us getting their orders. So this was annoying especially since we had our daughters with us and they were hangry. This was the second day on the job for our server, Mak. Mak did fine with our ordering and is the only reason this is two stars instead of one. The restaurant was offering either a free app or dessert with every meal purchased. We were super hungry, so we stopped in for dinner. The first Coke brought to the table was totally flat. Asked for sweet tea as the replacement and was treated to burnt sugar syrup. The alligator and calamari apps were just okay. However, the spinach artichoke dip was served with ice in the middle and had to be sent back. The blackened fish dish was okay with jambalaya, but the tasteless, canned side of veggies was listless and flat. Taste of New Orleans plate had all the appeal of a tv dinner. The muffalatte was extremely greasy and way overcooked. The beignets were probably the best part of the meal. The music is too loud and abrasive. My last night in New Orleans, I just wanted to indulge on some drinks and fried seafood. Cafe Maspero was right down the street from the hotel and they delivered, on all counts. I was fortunate to get there before the dinner rush because the place filled up quickly after I sat down. There's plenty of seating in the almost open-air dining room. I ordered an "Old Timer" (their take on the classic Old Fashioned) and the seafood platter. It comes with fried fish, shrimp and calamari rings ... and a MOUNTAIN of fries! The meal came in good time, and "platter" is a good word for it. There is an incredible amount of food on this manhole-cover of a plate. And it was all very, VERY good! The fish was hot, moist, crispy and tasty. The same went for the plentiful amount of shrimp and calamari. The fries were crispy, well seasoned and a LOT of 'em. Everything was delicious. Service was friendly and efficient. I waddled out of there well satisfied, but saddened a bit that it was my last night. Staff was very friendly, and it has a really cool bar. Food was mediocre and the rice was undercooked. Not bad at all, but not something that stands out. The brisket chili was sooo good! I had expected shredded brisket but it was ground. That was a little disappointing but the FLAVOR! Slight BBQ flavor, very distinct and wonderful! The mozzarella sticks were perfect and my granddaughter had a great time with the perfect cheese pulls! The service was spot on and the refills were quick! I felt that it took a bit long to get our food but that was a feeling and possibly not fact. Loved the property. Open air and yet air conditioned there was outside and inside dining available . While visiting Galveston Tx we decided to find at a new place for dinner. We decided on Cafe Maspero and this was the best choice ever. Once we walked in the ambience was incredible. The place wasn't packed but it quickly filled up pretty fast during our time there. Once seated or server Sara F quickly came over to take our order. We decided too order the Seafood Platter which consisted of Fried Catfish, Fried Shrimp, Fried Calamri and French fries. The food was amazing and just perfect portions to share. Everything was Fried too perfection . The manager also came over to ask how was everything and I replied everything was awesome and delcious. Stopped in for lunch and couldn't decide what I wanted. Hubby chose breakfast and I decided to order chicken and pancakes off the breakfast selections. I have never had chicken with any kind of breakfast item but gave it a try. The chicken and the pancakes came served with a powdery substance all over it. I asked our server what it was. New Orleanian born and raised here. I used to come to cafe maspero many many times going back to 30 years ago. I remember the food being SO good back then. Fast forward in the 2010s I had a mediocre experience concerning the food and it def didn't taste the same as I remembered, so I decided not to go back for a while. Yesterday I came in to see if it that one time was a fluke and unfortunately the seafood platter I got was WORSE than I remembered. Over seasoned, terrible flavor, the catfish tasted old. So disappointing! Maybe this establishment is just under new ownership and they changed everything about what made the food great. The ONLY thing pleasant about this experience was the service. There are so many places in New Orleans that do seafood better and i recommend anyone stay away from this restaurant at all costs. Or at least don't get the seafood. read more

HIGHLY RECOMMEND! So much food and the star of the meal honestly is the buttermilk biscuit! It is SOOO good! Personally, I HATE biscuits. Usually just end up tossing them but I took a bite just to try and I ended up eating the entire thing! They cut it in half and toast the inside. It's so fluffy and toasty. It's LEGIT! The rest of the food was excellent as well. The eggs, jambalaya, hashbrowns and grits all went really well together. I was craving for pancakes and my daughter decided on this restaurant. Located a block away from our hotel, it's very convenient. It also gets pretty busy. Staff: we were greeted with a friendly guy who showed us our table. Our waiter was also attentive and listened to our needs Food: I ordered garden omelette w extra crispy hash browns and buttermilk pancake which was shared. Just finished our meal at Cafe Maspero and had to sing its praises!!! The original hot muffaletta was amazing - toasty hot with great meats, yummy olive salad and crunchy carrrots bits. The french onion soup was the best I'd ever had! The beignet breakfast had great fluffy yeast beignets! This place is located near Jackson square and a short walk from the waterfront where the paddle boat is docked. It was crowded and the hostess said the food would come out quicker if I sat at the bar. I appreciated that suggestion. It wasn't a long wait at all for the food. The bartender was very nice and helpful with menu recommendations. He just wasn't that attentive. But it was because the bar was full and he had a lot to take care of. I ordered the crawfish Benedict. I was torn between the grits and jambalaya but I went with his jambalaya recommendation. This is an extremely filling dish. The biscuit was good but heavy.
