Being that this was my maiden voyage to Cafe Me, I was conflicted by all the wonderful choices (cheap too). The owner suggested I get the #2, Pastrami with Egg. Was he ever right? This is interesting. Cafe Me is hidden betwixt some buildings on the corner of its street. It was literally around the corner from us and took us forever to find. The signs on either corner of the alcove where it sits are supposed to alert us to it, but it not as visible. That being said, it is a nice breakfast place. It can be a bit pricey for some items. So, for instance, the boyfriend had a bagel with cream cheese and lox that was over $10, but he said it was the best of its kind that he has ever had. He isn't quite sure as to what ingredient made it so tasty, but he enjoyed it very much. I had a bacon, egg, and cheese on sourdough and it was good, very well presented. Went here for lunch today around 1:30 pm and it wasn't busy at all. I ordered #2 Pastrami!!! and it definitely hit the spot. It's a hot sandwich made to order with pastrami, egg, pepper jack cheese and your choice of bread (white/wheat/sourdough). This is a small drop in spot with 2 tables outside with 2-3 chairs each. Great service, super friendly owner. Quick, simple, and delicious for a very reasonable price. Every time I have happened to go in for this-n-that, they are just so ridiculously kind and friendly. Decent prices for big portions and everything was delicious. Owner was super nice taking our order, we ordered two polish dogs, #2, #5, a coffee and a hot chocolate all under $30 and all super tasty. It was all made quick too! Only complaint would be they didn't offer Ketchup for the #2 and #5. I didn't ask either so it is partially my fault as well. Not sure why everyone was raving about this place. I was excited to try this place out and ordered an egg and cheese bagel. Got the sandwich and all it was... a bagel with an egg and a Kraft slice American cheese that I give my kid on her bologna sandwich. WTF. Who does that in a legit grown up establishment? I have never paid $4 for an egg sandwich and gotten that kind of cheese. I just hope it was Kraft, then maybe at least it was made with real milk. I'd say skip this place. I wasn't impressed. This is a great tiny coffee shop. They are really nice folks, serve excellent organic fair trade coffee and have tasty bagel sandwiches and breakfast specials. An example of their great prices is $3 for a medium soy latte that would cost $3.85 at Starbucks (Cafe Me doesn't charge extra for soy milk). Over the course of a year that could be a couple hundred dollars in savings! Their bagel breakfast sandwiches are tasty, too, and made to order.I haven't been there for lunch but their sandwiches look good, too. Found this place through Yelp. San Francisco was the last stop on a 2 week long road trip. Sick of fast food and mediocre breakfast, I found this place. The staff is wonderful. I had ordered a breakfast sandwich and was about to pay when the man working received a phone call. He promptly had a woman take over to finish the transaction and then apologized 4-5 times. Not something I would have even cared about, but you could truly see how important the customer is here. The coffee was probably the best I had in SF. I ordered an iced latte and it was excellent. Service is quick and friendly, my only complaint is that the cheese they use could be higher quality, but the breakfast sandwiches are still a great way to start your day. Me being the groggy asian chick on work mornings, the people who worked here really brightened up my day. Cafe Me is probably a bit of a stroll for most people who work in the heart of FIDI, but if you can spare the extra 15 minutes I think it's worth it.
