My friend and co-worker gets meal pal and Cafe Med was one of the choices so we decided to try it for lunch. I got chicken, rice and salad plate with tziki sauce and a chicken & rice lemon soup for later. The menu here is Middle Eastern. It is conveniently located across from the Park Sq Building. The interior was cute. The food was really tasty and fresh! The couple working the front (I think the owners) were friendly and talkative. When they foubd out it was my 1st trip there, they gave me a samplenof their slow-cooked lamb in wine tomato sauce. It was a nice lean lamb and the sauce was tasty! The prices were pretty average. A bit hidden on St. James Ave, this place served solid food at decent prices. The Bifteki plate ($10.75 without tax/tip) was a good option with hearty portions of salad, rice and meat. The meat was shaped into a log rather than patty shaped. It was not too dry and pretty flavorful. The salad was mostly greens with a sprinkling of cucumber and tomato. Service was friendly and prompt. Rice was not mushy at all and was tasty with the bifteki. read more

This place was nice and it was pretty authentic. There might have been AC but it was still insanely hot inside so that wasn't fun. There is enough seating though and the location is really convenient. I had the spinach pie for lunch and it was a little bit dried out but otherwise yummy. Below average on everything I tried. 1. med salad (supposed to be the Greek tomato salad). They replaced virgin oil with Ranch. Sorry this is a capital crime plus disgusting. 2. Angolemono. This missed the second ingredient of the word which is lemon. Also it qualified for vegan as there was no chicken. Pretty bad overall. 3. Spinach pie was ok. Cafe Med has always been one of my favorite spots to eat and have a great time with friends and family. It really is disgraceful to see such poor service recently. Nick the bartender recently gave my friends and I one of the worst experiences I've ever had. Cafe med is good Greek food . The owner is very sweet and even gave me free dessert. He is from Crete and I know Cretans have good food . However their food is not Cretan it's just Greek food that we know outside of Greece. I would really recommend that they introduce some of the local favorites like the lamb curry or eggplant curry. Never really write these reviews, but this place was not a great experience. Just went there and everything was off. The owner or manager was yelling at staff when I went in and it was really awkward. I ordered a chicken wrap well beyond the lunch rush and they weren't busy. The wrap was crusty like it had been sitting out in the air for a week to get stale. There was literally almost no chicken at all, and it had a strange fishy taste. Went in on a Friday at 11:45 looking to beat the lunch rush and get some of their "World's Best Souvlaki" at least it was advertised as such... To me Greek food means lamb so that's what I was looking to get in my souvlaki. I get to the counter "No lamb" ok, Gyro meat then, "No Gyro, or beef or pork. Only chicken". Of your advertised meat options only one is in stock? Fine, I got the chicken and asked for fries in pita and tzatziki. Bombshell "Sorry but we are out of Greek yogurt so no tzatziki" WHAT?! I'm sorry but at a GREEK place, for lunch at 11:45 you have only one kind of meat and no yogurt? After waiting for about 10 min I got my nicely grilled souvlaki with a fair amount of pretty decent chicken and some large cut tomatoes and lettuce. Sadly they either forgot about or were out of the fries... I really wanted this to be a good place as I love Greek food and this is near my work, but I cant imagine coming back here, the only reason I would is to see what they will be out of next. I was sent to this restaurant for lunch by hotel Concierge at the Park Plaza. Place looks authentic but they were out of soup. I ordered a Gyro expecting a "real" Gyro. It was pre fab meat heated up in a microwave. It was still cold. I declined fries with my order. Couldn't substitute because they had run out of soup, salad by 1:00pm. Slow service and a horribly coordinated staff fumbling around like it's their first day on the job results in ridiculous wait times, both to place an order and to recieve it. Cafe' Med is in my starting rotation for an afternoon bite. Being employed as a bartender makes "breakfast" a vague concept at best. So a lot of time I will have a protein shake and go to a lunch place after 2 P.M. so as to avoid the feeding frenzy. I got to Cafe' Med at 3 P.M. last week while the last "normal" lunch folk were leaving. I ordered the falafel plate, which included 2 stuffed grape leaves, rice and salad. The falafel was sufficiently crunchy to resist the plastic fork but not so firm as to break the teeth. Good job! The stuffed grape leaves were pleasantly oily and the rice was firm. The dill was definitely discernible which is more than i can say for mass. Ave. Pita. The rice could have used a touch more tahini but that probably says more about me than the dish. The grains separated nicely and made the starch more than an afterthought. The Greek Salad was small and fresh and rolled up nicely into the additional slice of bread that I requested. Quibbles? The music was a touch loud and the volume needs to be turned down when there are few folks to absorb the sound. My pepper shaker wasn't quite filled and this type of small lapse shouldn't happen. Very slow service. Person behind the counter acted like she didn't even want to be there. Prices are also very high for the low quality of food you receive. My chicken plate with rice and salad was awful. The chicken was, in my opinion, not cooked completely. Center was cool and appeared to me to be uncooked. I would give 4 stars for the employees - awesome employees! Great customer service! Unfortunately, the food quality is very poor. The hummus was grainy and bland. Falafel was chewy and the bread on the hummus was thick and tasteless. Salad looked tired and in my salad I found part of the plastic bag of the salad packaging. Most of the food just tasted fried. This review is for a quick espresso ($1.75 single) and slice of baklava ($3.75) just before lunch time. Espresso was great - the only downside was the fact that it was served in a paper cup. I would definitely stop in here for a quick coffee or espresso when passing through the St. James Arcade to get out of the biting winds of the back bay. Baklava was dry - but large-sized for the price. On Fridays, Cafe Med offers free baklava with the purchase of lunch or breakfast item (until the end of 2015). We arrived at 11:30am with no wait, but the line snaked out the door and down the hall by noon so beware if you're looking to grab a quick lunch to go. I'm obsessed with the Greek salad, which has spicy chicken, feta, olives, lettuce, cucumber, tomato, onions, and Greek dressing - I probably have it once a week at least. The Gyros and platters look excellent as well. It's a bit pricey - $10 for a salad, however, the salad is very fresh and very filling. They frequently run out of chicken (I don't understand how a lunch joint can routinely run out of meat BEFORE the noon lunch rush), and it's not the fastest so not great when you're in a rush (i.e., most recently, they started to make my salad and THEN told me they ran out of meat and I'd have to stand around waiting for the next batch came out). read more

I went for the Falafel/hummus/grape leaves Plate thing, and it was well worth the 7ish dollars I spent. Their falafel sealed the deal for me: crispy (not stale) on the outside, fresh and soft on the inside, very well seasoned and delicious. Plus, I always love a place that throws in the dolma/grape leaves. Cafe Med has a decent selection of Mediterranean food, basically everything you might expect. I was pleased to see stuffed grape leaves on the menu. I ordered a spicy chicken and rice lunch combo, and overall it was tasty with generous servings for a decent price. If you're picky, you'll notice the spicy chicken wasn't spicy at all. The salad was swimming in dressing, so unless you prefer an abundance of dressing, ask them to go light. The rice was - rice - no complaints there. Then the grape leaves... So, I actually like the food here. I was really looking forwarding to getting a gyro roll up today for lunch and just running back to my desk to lunch and work. The gyro I got yesterday was on point, so naturally I expected today's gyro to be on point. Hugely disappointed. The contents were all disproportionate. The roll up fell apart as soon as a got to my desk and made a huge mess and really....that is the last thing I need during my work day. I think the guy they have in the kitchen is an idiot and just does whatever on a whim whenever he feels like. Today I had french fries in the gyro?? I don't review places routinely. However, this warm and welcoming authentic Greek and Mediterranean lunch place I most definitely worth visiting and coming back to often. The lamb dish, while not served every day, is extraordinary and without a doubt it's the best lamb in town, notwithstanding the bold statement. On the unfortunate days when the lamb is not available (the owner prides himself in offering the lamb only when only the right cut and quality is available from his butcher), the Mykonos chicken is a standout alternative. I personally get each main course atop a bed of salad, although rice, Tzaziki and other genuine Mediterranean accompaniments are also available. I keep promising myself I will I try other dishes (people who I ask in line swear by their souvlaki/giro/burgers/others), but I simply haven't found the need to venture outside of these two winners. read more

I have gone along with my husband, and friends numerous times to CafeMed. Every time, we try something different , being it the Mykonos plate, keftedes( meat balls), chicken and rice, zucchini and tzatziki etc Last Wednesday I stopped by and got some PASTITSIO (Greek baked pasta dish that contains ground lamb and béchamel sauce). Needless to point out that the food was truly exquisite, yummy, light and not " oily". Having born and lived for many years it Greece, I can sincerely testify that this was the best Greek food I had in Boston, ever! Awesome, authentic Greek food!!!! read more

They have a variety of selections and though there may be a line it moves through pretty quickly. I liked their lunch plate which came with your choice of meat, rice, and salad. I love this place, the food is made from scratch every morning and you can taste the difference. Everyone is really nice that works there, they go out of their way to make sure every customer is taken care of. Food is decent when they get it right. Tall guy screws up more orders than MacDonalds and has a Taco Bell attitude. The help seems to rotate frequently which clearly impacts the efficiency of getting out orders on time and accurately. I have had some decent lunches but they are outnumbered by the bad.
