I just had the best Mediterranean wrap I've ever had in my life. George the chef made it from scratch with fresh ingredients. Lamb, greek, sausage, greek yogurt and special spices that took it over the top. For a little cafe it's just incredible how fresh the food is there. Kayleigh, one of the servers, made me a double espresso for the road that was great. As a matter of fact the whole staff was warm and friendly under the watchful eye of Manos the owner. I love Mediterranean food and this is as good as it gets. Had the lamb and beef burger plate today and it was to die for. They put out samples of dips with chips while you wait and the service was fast. Definitely a new staple lunch stop. read more

I really like Cafe Med. I waited a while to write a review for this place because there were claims of inconsistency and bad service. Whenever this is the situation I like to get a good sample size before putting my thoughts online. I have been here for lunch several times at this point and it's always been very consistent for me. They don't offer a lot of options, which I personally think is great, but what they do offer is fantastic. Everything is made very quickly, I've never waited more than 5 minutes. The Gyro Plate is definitely the way to go, or if you are slightly less hungry the Lamb Slouvaki is a great option. read more

Don't write too many reviews but thought I would take the time to give this place a great rating. I work in the area down the street & recently discovered this strip of restaurants in the area. Cafe Med is a great & affordable option for lunch. The portions are more than enough for around 7 dollars. It also has the benefit of being one of the few Mediterranean food places in the area & the only one I know if that I can grab a quick 20-30 minute bite for lunch that is walking distances from Newbury/Boylston. I usually go after the 12-2 lunch rush around the area so I usually go in, make my order & have my food in well under a minute. During the lunch rush, I'm not sure how it looks but usually places around the area during this time can see waits being 5 or more minutes. The food is hot (depending on what you get) & fresh, which is amazing to have during the day rather than a Sub or Hamburger from a fast food chain at about the same cost. It's a small operation. Usually only see a single individual working the kitchen, an employee working the line along with a manager helping out. The staff that I have dealt with is awesome. The food taste great. & the price is right. Highly recommend this place for the Chicken & Rice plate w/ a Salad. Will be a place that I frequent when I get a chance to step out for lunches. read more

Since Steve's Greek on Newbury Street closed down, I've been looking for a good classic gyro in the Back Bay. Yesterday I found it at Cafe Med on St. James Street - between Stuart and Boylston first block of Back Bay. You can get the gyro sandwich in a fat, warm pita bread with tzatziki sauce and vegetables or as a meal with rice and salad. It really is good. I work nearby, and unfortunately had not discovered the mall where Café Med is located until recently! I struggled through Panera, Cosi, and Au Bon Pain for months, but no longer! Café med has great customer service - in fact, when I walked in, I was treated like a regular. I ordered grape leaves and a chicken souvlaki. I was immediately transported back to my time living in Tuscany, where my neighbor was greek and made grape leaves. The sandwich was delicious and served on a wooden cutting board, beautifully presented for what is essentially fast food! As I was about to leave, they offered me a free dessert saying that after 2pm there is free dessert with lunch! What is this, Shangri-La?! Anyway, cannot recommend this place enough, and am looking forward to going back there soon! read more

Stopped by this restaurant around 2pm today for a late lunch and was extremely impressed with the atmosphere and location. I ordered the beef souvlaki and Greek salad. Decided to check out Cafe Med which just opened up in the Park Square building where Laffa used to be. I was pretty disappointed with the lunch there. I decided to get a greek salad with chicken on it. When I got back to my office to eat it I noticed many of the mixed greens were already starting to turn. On top of that, the chicken was not fresh white meat chicken but processed chicken that was in clumps (dark meat, fat, tendons etc). For a $10 salad, you could walk down Boylston and get a really fresh salad from Sweetgreen. I would think you could get a good Greek salad in a Greek restaurant; guess not.... read more

What a disappointment because I really wanted to like this place. I think the food is tasty, and portions are not skimpy. But the service is atrocious. I ordered the Chicken leg special, and watched as baldie (you know who you are), put two breast pieces in my to-go box. I asked him to please replace them with at least one chicken leg. After all, I did order the Chicken LEG special (actually says this on the signs in the store AND on the menu). He said not to worry, that they were chicken legs cut up. Wow. Do you not think your customers know the different parts of a chicken???? just say you ran out of them. Don't push things on your customers that they do not want, and then try to B.S. them. That's a sure way to lose customers. Absolutely disappointing. read more

Cafe Med is basically the only falafel/greek game in the Back Bay area. I used to work in the Financial District and was spoiled for choices if I wanted a falafel plate or a wrap, but since moving to Back Bay, Cafe Med has been my only choice. So even though I don't love it, I still go once in a while to get my fix. Their main issue is consistency. Their rice, chicken and salad will taste completely different on any given day, and if you ask for a falafel plate the contents will also be different depending on who assembles your plate. My co-worker was even told she couldn't get a falafel plate one day (what??? It's on the menu!) The salad also suffer from sogginess. Since the chicken they put on the salad is warm, it immediately wilts all the veggies...not appetizing at all. With all that said, the flavors of the food they serve is good, and the people who work there/own it are very nice and generous with portions. I'm just not sure if I can keep going back...because every time what you will receive is a surprise..no matter what you order. read more

I love greek food and this place is 2 min walk from office, so I really wanted it to be good. 6 months ago I wanted a spinach pie - didn't have any made. Got a salad - was ok, salad is salad. Go back again - ordered spinach pie. Got to my office it was so burned on bottom - what a disappointment. 3rd time, I asked to look at bottom. Looked good. Got back to desk took one bite - for some unknown reason it was full of chicken, no spinach. Are you kidding me? btw, I'm vegetarian. I work in the area, and decided to try it out today. Cafe Med is going to be added to my lunch rotation! I got the veggie plate with rice, salad, hummus, falafel, grape leaves, and babaganoush, and a soda, all for under $10. I could tell the person plating it behind the counter cared about what I was getting in terms of the way he put it all together. I am not a fan of babaganoush and I am currently licking it off my plate - I don't know what they put in it, but it's a must try. I tried Cafe Med out quite a few times when it first opened but something always seemed off. Either the chicken was dry or it was obvious the staff had no clue what they were doing. I just tried it again and it was the same deal. Rice tastes like butter (nothing else), olives were cold to the point of being frozen solid, and the staff acted like it was their first day on the job. This place has a lot of potential because the food is sometimes quite good but I don't think I'll be going back with other options in the area. read more

The meal was okay, nothing to write home about. Actually, the rice was good and the salad was good, the chicken was overcooked and very dry. What really bothered me was when the cashier rang up the meal the total seemed off for what I purchased. When I asked for a receipt the cashier was somewhat rude and asked what the problem was. I said I just want a receipt. She turned the screen toward me and I said I want the receipt to which she replied "why, I charged you the right amount." I insisted on the receipt. When I checked the receipt, sure enough, she rang up the wrong amount charging me for the beef instead of the chicken. She was then all bothered that I wanted her to fix the amount to refund me MY money. It makes me wonder if this is something they do to everyone (on purpose) who knows? It isn't a lot of money but hey, if they charge the wrong amount they should fix it and not get defensive right? Yeah, I won't be going there again. The price for the food was high and then with the rudeness of the cashier tells me go someplace else for a better meal at a better value with better service. read more
