Cool spot for breakfast after the holiday. Ordered the chicken curry wrap, which is something I've never had before and complemented it with Rose Water Spice. This was definitely a unique breakfast and it was so close to where we were staying, so it was very convenient to come here in the morning. I had driven by here so many times when I commuted to the West side and finally took a stop on the way to the Getty. I had heard good things about the businesses on Topanga. I got their speciality smoothie, a mushroom latte, and avocado toast with some toppings. The drinks and avocado toast were excellent. The setting is nice though there's not a lot of seating or parking. I did have an issue which they resolved well after I called in. My main bone to pick: if you can't manage to keep vanilla nut flavored coffee hot and stocked throughout the morning (say 8:30am - 10am), you really shouldn't call yourself a cafe. 7 Eleven manages to keep multiple coffee flavors hot and stocked all day long... and they are not a cafe. I've given this place so many opportunities and I'm just over it. I'd even go so far as to say they should be stocked all day with hot coffee but I'm trying to be nice because the danishes are OK (my husband enjoys them). Disappointed. I ordered a coffee tote online and received a receipt saying ready in 30 minutes (kinda long for something small but ok). I arrived 30 minutes later and was not assisted or even greeted within the first 3-4 minutes of standing at the waiting counter. When I was greeted, I was told my product was not available unless the manager was on site (manager wasn't on site). I was then rudely asked to move while they worked on figuring out if they could do it for me instead of letting me know they were working on an answer and asking me politely to step aside. Many moons ago I lived a block from this location. It brings back old memories (that is I can remember anything from that far back). Cafe Mimosa make good coffee drinks. As far as the pastries go I just ask if they are super fresh and go with those (no fresh ones means I ain't eatin it(:) Their patio is cool and there is definitely a Hippy type of Topanga Canyon vibe here (which is cool in my book). Cafe Mimosa has been my happy place for many years. I know all the Topanga places very well and here is where you will find a relaxed atmosphere where you chat easily with travelers and locals alike. This place was total disappointment. After a long hike in topanga, my friends and I were venturing through the town looking for a deli. After a few inconclusive investigations, we landed upon "cafe mimosa", tucked away behind the trees. The atmosphere was charming at first, but upon walking inside there was a strange darkness that befell the room. The two employees were helpful, but seemed like they were simultaneously preoccupied with something else. Upon viewing the menu, I was underwhelmed by the options and the presentation. Most of the meals were pre-made, wrapped in plastic, and refrigerated. A little strange for a place that calls itself a "cafe", but i digress. I ordered the mushroom "burrito" and patiently waited outside, unknowing to what horror would await me. The first meal that arrived was my friends "avocado toast"; an utterly pathetic dish on all fronts. They didn't even try to make it look nice, it was half toasted with about 1/3 of an avocado spread on top. Zero points for presentation. Following this disaster was my so called "burrito", though it looked and tasted more like a microwavable gas station wrap. Not only was it not filling, it actually spoiled my appetite for the rest of the day. We ate in silence and unspoken dread. Despite the charming facade this place gives off, there is absolutely nothing going for it on a culinary level. The prices are completely ridiculous for the food you receive. Ordered two Matcha Lattes, they couldn't have been worse. Oh, and it cost me $14. They were made by simply dumping matcha powder into hot water and then pouring oat milk into that. Not whisked or blended at all. Both drinks were nothing but matcha chunks floating on the top. The "barista" had no idea what golden milk was - even though it was written on a chalkboard in 3 inch lettering right behind her. Once I pointed that out, she simply said, "we must be out of that." Hence the oat milk. After I got to my car and realized how horrible the drinks were, I decided against going back in and complaining. It was obvious the young woman working was alone and the failure lies with the owners who hired/trained/trusted her. In a world where finding vegan and unique drinks/foods isn't hard anymore, I won't be giving this place another penny of mine. You've been warned to be disappointed. read more

It is all about that canyon life at Café Mimosa. This cute coffee and pastry shop right on Topanga Canyon Boulevard feels like a home away from home. Super personable owners make you feel right at home with hot brewed coffee served in big, bulky mugs and fresh sandwiches. The clientele is an eclectic mix of locals, hikers and hippies on the move. This is a very quaint coffee shop in Topanga. We stopped here before our hike to grab a coffee and a bite to eat. The atmosphere is so cute with indoor and outdoor seating. I got a vanilla latte and it was very tasty without being too sweet. I also ordered a bacon breakfast burrito. The burrito was made or prepped ahead of time and reheated in the back but still very delicious. Probably the same as a Starbucks would do. I ordered an avocado toast and I watched the girl working behind the counter pull a pre made "avocado toast" from behind the counter... this avocado toast was literally a piece of cold white bread with 4 slices of avocado and nothing else. No salt, no greens, no tomatoes. No taste. The young girls behind the counter were not very friendly at all. Coffee was watered down and I'm pretty sure it's a single shot of espresso. We only came here since it appeared as one of the closest places from our Topanga Canyon hiking spot that had any significant Yelp ratings. I had little appreciation for the mismatched furnishings and quirky decor that fills this cafe. My friend described it as adorable but I found it a bit off-putting. The tables and chairs we sat at felt super janky. The menu was not that extensive and it took me a while to decide to get anything. I actually got the $4.00 single shot mocha/coconut milk/caramel special which was actually very delicious. I actually thought about getting a fruit smoothie but the barista informed me that they actually used syrup to make the smoothies ... The cafe is also a boutique, offering many unique gift items as well as some vintage French imports. What I liked best about Mimosa is that it's a place to relax. Morning service during commute to work is relatively slow. But it's ok for the regulars that come here. The owner/barista takes your order, prepares your coffee or beverage, then helps the next customer. She's the barista and cashier. Unless it was just that way that morning. Couldn't afford the 10-15 extra minutes I spent there compared to a chain. But I believe you would come here to sit and enjoy your chai latte. Not buzz through. The soy mocha latte I ordered was ok. Won't be coming back here soon, though. I just needed a quick stop for coffee. And I felt like the oddball. Everyone looked like they lived there in the Topanga area, because they all seemed to know each other. It's a nice cozy little place. Everyone was friendly, but you come here to say hello to familiar faces. It's not really a fast coffee fix on your way to work. That's just my opinion. Stop by if you like this sort of thing. Let me start by saying that this review is only based on one experience during the pandemic. The establishment is incredibly charming and the two ladies that worked there the morning of my experience were sweet and attentive. So why the mediocre review? I think that as we define protocols for COVID, restaurant owners and employees need to be sensitive and astute in how they deliver their message. I ordered a coffee, which the lady was absolutely kind enough to make for me, however with bare hands, and the same hands she used to take my cash, she put the lid onto my coffee and her thumb ran across the mouthpiece. Money is one of the dirtiest things that you can touch as it exchanges hands so many times. The only reason I paid in cash was because I thought they only accepted cash. I'm certain that this woman meant well, as her demeanor was kind. The ambiance here is warm, authentic seemingly filled with locals. I went back in to pay for a second cup. There were two people ahead of me, so I thought I would help myself at the pump while I waited for my turn to pay. This was probably ignorant on my part as their rules appeared to be that no one touches the pump but the workers. Makes total sense! This was my first visit to an outdoor establishment since the start of the pandemic. The issue I take is in how this was handled. As I started to pump my coffee, the same lady who helped me earlier rushes up to me and gently pushes me back and urgently says "oh no, you may not come back here, no" She of course did not hurt me, but it certainly did draw attention, and was very embarrassing. I think if they had a more delicate way of sharing their safety protocols, the whole outcome would've been different. Please know that I accept responsibility for not knowing the good and safe measures that they had in place. I'm certain that this place is worth a revisit! read more
