We found the atmosphere modern and very clean with a lot of room and tasteful decor. the menu offered a good selection though eggs Benedict was strangely lacking from such a cosmopolitan inspired selection. The prices seem overly optimistic considering the basic ingredients yeah that presentation and homemade toast made up for a thinner wallet well. I was especially pleased with my sourdough because few restaurants seem to bother with crafted breads anymore while some still charge prices like they do. We were very filled and felt everything was on point for quality ingredients and professional chef skills coming together for a quality meal however at these prices it would have been nice to have needed a take home box as most other restaurants nearing a big $20 with tip are easy to have leftovers for later. read more

Patachou is wonderful - a small, quaint location that can sometimes get noisy but the food is worth it! This location is my favorite - it has an old school diner feel to it, with lots of windows to provide natural lighting! I highly recommend the omelettes or broken yolk sandwiches - the cinnamon toast is delish, but very sweet! A nice size bowl of fruit comes with these dishes, as well. I just tried the "Hippie with a Benz" and it was great - veggies and feta cheese. Yum! read more

Can I be completely honest? I have not been overtly impressed by Cafe Patachou before today. I do really like a number of the other Patachou concepts (particularly Napolese and Public Greens). But whenever I find myself at Patachou's original location, I find myself enjoying my food. But am mildly annoyed at the self-serve coffee and that my breakfast food is probably $2-3 cheaper at many diners across the city. So I found myself at Patachou today on New Year's Day and today I wanted to try something different. Something that isn't on every diner's menu. I went with the Cuban Breakfast and really enjoyed myself. The rice acts as a good base. There is just enough white cheddar to add flavor but not overpower the dish. But the star ingredient was the spinach-jalapeño pesto, which gives you just enough kick for some flavor but not too much for being so early in the morning. I also ordered one of those double chocolate cookies. Okay, I didn't say I'd go outside of my comfort zone for every part of the order. Overall, I enjoyed my meal here because I ordered something different, something that is probably hard to find at most breakfast places in town. So if you end up here, order something other than your standard breakfast food. And I think you'll be glad you did. read more

Any time I'm visiting another city, I'm looking for their version of Cafe Patachou for breakfast or brunch. My sister and I always joke that when we come here, it feels like coming home. Waiting staff is friendly, the vibe is fun/fresh/familiar and the food is always excellent. Some reviews mention the price, and I won't say their prices are cheap, but the food really is so good. So sure I'll pay $10 for the best cinnamon toast I'll ever have. I'm a French toast waffle kind of girl normally but somehow a friend suckered me in to getting their Cuban Breakfast at one point and here I am 8 years later with the same order (with a side of cinnamon toast). Cafe Patachou is a staple of Indianapolis (I mean, it's even in the Indy Airport). Personally, this is one of their best locations because the street isn't that busy. We found parking almost right in front of the restaurant (however, there are limited parking spots). They're usually busy though. Service here was also very friendly and willing to help. The food here is great because the greens are fresh and their presentation just makes it feel clean. If you're vegetarian or vegan, this is a perfect place to try out. My sister found Cafe Patachou on Yelp! as we were looking for a place to have lunch after exploring around Holliday Park. Parking was limited, but we found a spot pretty close. It was too hot to sit outside, so we opted for a table inside. It was a Friday afternoon, there was no wait for our party of four to be seated, and there were only a few other people inside. I ordered their House Roasted Turkey Breast Sandwich (roasted turkey, herbed cream cheese, lettuce, mayo) with chips and a cup of their Matzo Ball Soup (just like Mom made, with gluten and love). Over Thanksgiving break, my older sister Lucy and I went to brunch at Patachou. We usually go to Petite Chou but decided to change it up. We went on Saturday morning, so we weren't surprised we had to wait for a table. Luckily we were seated within 15 minutes of putting our name down. I had the Mckenzie omelet, made with herbs, pork sausage, onion, and creamy goat cheese. It was delicious! The omelet came with a side of thick buttery sourdough toast and lightly dressed greens. To drink, I had an Arnold Palmer. My sister Lucy can have trouble deciding on one beverage so, she had water, coffee, and Diet Coke. To eat, Lucy had the chicken salad sandwich on sourdough with a cup of tomato artichoke soup. The food was delicious, and our server was friendly and attentive. I found free street parking down 49th and strolled in late in the lunch hour. Since I was dining by myself, I selected the bar/counter dining instead of tying up a table since the room was pretty full. I liked that the menus were already sitting on the counter for each seat so that I could begin looking over my options while the waitress was finishing up some other tasks. In the meantime, I was given some water (no straws here) and had my attention directed to the daily specials. I decided to go with those and was glad I did! I started off with a Chicken Velvet soup. If you've never tried it, you have something to look forward to. If you have, I will suggest this was the richest/deepest flavored soup I've tried. So good! And it was steaming hot, so I needed to wait just a minute or two even though I was chilled to the bone from the cold winds blowing outside. I added an omelette to my meal that was the special: Asiago, sausage, tomato, and spinach. Wow! It looked so ordinary because it is served without any topping sauce, though they did offer hot sauce and ketchup if I wanted them. But the flavor was very good without them. I can't get over how thick the omelette was without being heavy or over cooked. Mine never turn out this well at home, so I may have to bribe someone to show me how they make theirs! ;) They even allowed me to substitute my soup instead of ordering a different side that would normally come with the omelette. The only mix up was that when they offered toast with the dish, I selected whole wheat, but it came out as cinnamon bread. They have a sign on one of their machines that says "Don't be afraid to try something different", so I went with the flow and tried it. I ended up eating both slices. Very tasty! They brought a bowl of water out for the pup, which is always appreciated! I always get the Cuban Breakfast and it was amazing as always. The perfect amount of food! (Side note: if you're sensitive to spicy food don't let the spinach-jalapeño pesto scare you, it's not spicy!). My husband got The Omelet You Can't Refuse and it was awesome as well. Cafe Patachou was delish! It's located in broadripple area on the corner of E 49th. The waiting area is not ideal due to when you enter the receptionist booth is literally right there and technology there is no waiting area so a lot of patrons are just standing in the entrance way when you first walk in. The size of the location is not bad but when it's busy it can be a bit much. The decor is newer age Seinfeld. It has booths and tables with a black and white color to it but lots of light for the moral to feel all bubbly and happy and what not. Besides the decor, the food was mmmm good for me, what I got. I ordered the Vegan Omelet which came with a Vegan crepe that was thicker than a normal crepe. It was almost like a corn cake to me minuscule sweetness. If it had a little sweetness to it, it would have even better but it was still good. Topped with hummus, tofu, black beans, avocado and I forget the greens on top but it was good. It also came with pesto which was amazing and verde sauce. It was Delish I will be getting that again. The table came with this fancy Delish water. Stopped here for brunch, and ordered the Vegan Cuban breakfast! loved the spinach-jalapeno pesto, it gave the dish so much flavor. I found the diced tofu to be a bit flavorless, it would've been nice if it had been cooked with some marinade. Coffee is self-serve and bottomless, my server even offered me a to-go cup when I was done with my meal! My only gripe was that I had asked to sit at a table when I walked in, but I got a little pressure to sit at the counter instead ("you can sit the the counter or we only have 4-tops"). This was perfectly fine but I did prefer a table. Sure, I understand that as a lone diner, it's not the best decision to take up an entire table, but it wasn't unreasonable. During my entire time there, the tables never filled up and no parties had to wait to be seated. Plenty of nice options on the menu. The salads and sandwiches looked delicious. The only reason I wouldn't give the restaurant 5 stars is because it's very expensive to make accommodations. I have a few intolerances and I figured I could just ask for substitutes for the meat or sauces, but everything is an additional up charge. I always forget this location exists. We got there around 11 am and was sat right away. I've only ever had their breakfast food when I've came and I've never been disappointed by the Cuban Breakfast. It is so filling and has that extra kick with the jalapeño pesto that I like. Make sure to read the chalkboard and it has their specials for the day that the waitress may not bring to your attention. Patachou is my neighborhood place to go. I love taking my kids. The servers are the kindest to them, and always treat them with respect. It stands out! I also love coming here on my own, sitting at the counter, and enjoying their Highlander Grogg blend, which I recently learned I can buy from them in whole bean! Best discovery ever! My favorites for breakfast are the Hippie with a Benz and the Vegan Cuban breakfast. You have to try the cinnamon toast! My son, who's 9, got me hooked on the avocado toast but watch out with the bread, it toasts a little on the burnt side. Still delicious and just check in with your server about the kind of bread options. Every single time I've been in, I get wonderful service. Even on days when they're packed, and servers are busting their butts getting to all of us. I also like how the company treats servers. In the 5 years I've been coming, I see a lot of the same faces, consistently. Every once in a while, you see a new server, but that just shows you that they like working there. Fresh tasting all around! - Greens were pretty standard, but made the plate pop for sure :) - I enjoyed the toast but I didn't taste the sourdough part. Just a little sad about that. The blueberry jam that it came with was well done - not too sweet. Great jam. I like that this place uses fresh ingredients and it gives back to the community. My wife loves going to this place with her friends and generally once a year she brings me along. I generally find the place to be pretty and my wife raves, but today was not a great experience and for the $50 cost without alcohol we left underwhelmed. The waitress was great, but the food came out quickly after ordering and was already cold? She got the McKenzie omelette and she found it to be cold and to not have great flavor. She mentioned the sausage tasted like cheap store bought patties cut up rather than freshly cooked ground sausage. I took a bite and to my surprise it was a cold omelette with little to no flavor. I'm sure she will be back, but she was disappointed. I got the Patawich which actually was pretty good with the sausage, egg, pesto Mayo, and cheese, though was cold. I'm a bigger guy, so I decided I wanted a side, so the waitress recommended the potatoes. I did not like the potatoes. They are cooked just enough to not be hard like a raw potato, but they have no crunch to them like I am used to with breakfast restaurants. With the help of some salt, I was able to eat them. I am not trying to be a Negative Ned with this post as I generally always give 4-5 star reviews, but it just seems like this is a high priced breakfast spot that should blow you a way. Cafe Patachou is a deserving icon in the Indy breakfast scene. While you won't find many novel or unusual dishes here, they do hit all the highlights of American breakfast and they do it all extremely well. My two favorite orders are the French toast or whatever omelette you're feeling on the day (ask for the cinnamon toast to go with it). Service is always top notch and courteous, and the 49th/Penn location has a good relaxed atmosphere about it. Something else i Love is that when you say you're going to share a meal, the kitchen splits it for you and serves it separately. I always think this is a nice touch. I didn't give them 5 stars for 2 reasons. First, service was questionable on our last visit. The server seemed pretty preoccupied and bored with us. Second, they didn't have patio heaters! How can you have such an amazing patio and lose so many months of outdoor seating in Indiana weather, by not having warmers? We specifically called ahead of time to check on this last time and ended up dining somewhere else as a result. However, it's definitely worth visiting and enjoying!
