I had dinner here with friends for a ladies night out and had a great experience. Gosh prior to this recent visit, I believe I was still a youngster so Cafe Santorini has been around for awhile. We had missed happy hour by 10 minutes and the bartender was nice enough to honor the price. Sangria was very tasty and refreshing. Dinner was light and fulfilling at the same time. I love the building and with it being in old town, it has the charm especially with the exposed brick. I had to climb a steep flight of stairs to enter the restaurant and didn't notice an elevator unless it's in a secret passageway I don't know about. So I would suggest calling ahead before making a reservation if you have to bring a stroller or wheelchair. read more

4.5 Stars I absolutely loved this restaurant, everything from the cozy, romantic ambiance, to the hidden-away location, and delicious Mediterranean food. Cafe Santorini is tucked away in a small, narrow alley about a block north of de Lacey parking structure (free 90min parking). Climb a flight of stairs and ask to be seated in the outdoor patio area - there are pretty lights strewn across the ceiling and an awning that gets pulled back as the sun is setting so you're essentially dining al fresco on the rooftop. Nice breeze and delicious food, a great way to spend a summer evening. ++ Santorini Mezze Platter was a great way to sample different appetizers on the menu. I particularly liked the stuffed grape leaves but could probably pass on the other items. ++ Lamb Shank was braised perfectly, mouthwatering fall-off-the-bones tender with a delicious tomato-based sauce and a side of creamy mashed potatoes. The Lamb Shank is a definite must-order dish and by far our favorite dish of the night! ++ Cioppino w/ Linguine was delicious with a generous portion of fresh seafood and a slightly spicy, creamy sauce. The cioppino was a close favorite after the braised lamb shank. ++ Beef Brochette Kabobs was good although in a side-by-side comparison with the other dishes, it didn't quite hold its own. ++ Sangria was probably one of the best I've had. Just the right amount of sweetness to mask the alcohol taste and it packed quite a punch since it's deceptively strong. We ordered a pitcher of the sangria to share among four people but just one glass was enough for most of us since it was rather strong. Apparently they add triple sec & brandy in their sangria. We had picked this spot to make reservations on a Tuesday night, but apparently they were full, so we had picked another spot to eat. We ended up going finally and it was around 5:30 pm. It wasn't crowded at all in fact there may had been just 3 other groups at most eating dinner. I wasn't too hungry, but the hummus was so delicious. I didn't like the pita bread to much that came with it. The pita wasn't warm and it just tasted as if it was store bought. I ended up ordering the toasted walnut & Gorgonzola salad with shrimp. Although the salad tasted great, I felt that paying $12 extra for 5 pieces of shrimp was a bit ridiculous. If it wasn't for the fact that I wanted to have extra protein, then I wouldn't have added the shrimp to my salad. Either way, the patio is definitely refreshing to be outdoors and take in fresh air, but there isn't to much scenery to look at. The employees are very helpful when ordering, and extremely kind and quick to serve you. I've ordered the beef kabob, pesto pasta with chicken, Greek salad (one of my favorites) pizza, and fish with shrimp risotto (special for the night). The beef kabob is one of the best dishes in my opinion, really good and a pretty good portion. The Greek salad is very fresh and the feta cheese and olives make the salad twice as good. Came here for lunch with a group of my friends for a bridal shower. One of the best mediterranean joints I have eaten at. Our waiter was friendly and funny at the same time. Excellent service!! Everyone of us enjoyed what we ordered. I ordered the chicken kabob dish and that was very GOOD!!! I loved it! This dish also came with hummus and flat bread. The hummus was yummy. A cool little place in Old Town Pasadena, kind of hidden though. I loved the decor as soon as I walked in with the brick walls, colorful light fixtures, and art pieces on the walls. We sat inside because it was freezing out. Next time I will try to sit outside though. Looked nice out there. He wasn't too thrilled about it though so he ordered the pomegranate martini and was much more pleased with that. For my entree I had the seafood cioppino, a linguini pasta with a LOAD of seafood in it; shrimp, scallops, muscles, clams, and calamari. Seriously, there was more seafood than pasta on my plate, WIN! My bro had the fettuccine con gamberetti (shrimp fettuccine). He really liked it as well. After dinner my brother said I had to try the limoncello, an after dinner drink. It was pretty gross. Honestly, it's not that special. The ambiance is nice but that's about it. The outdoor seating is cramped and the lights are pretty I guess. I got the seared ahi tuna salad ($16) and pita with hummus ($8). The tuna was deliciously cooked, but it wasn't amazing, and the salad had a nice vinaigrette, but I feel like it could have been so much better. It was good, but not as great as I was expecting. The pita bread was awful and the hummus was mediocre. I could probably make pita bread that tasted better than that in my sleep! The hummus tasted like what you'd find in a store. I had to swallow the combo down so I wouldn't waste my money. Definitely not worth the $8 it was stupidly priced. If I do come back here at all, I won't ever get that again. Came here for date night a couple of months back. In order to get to the main dining area of the restaurant, you have to climb a small stairwell. All the tables are set fairly close to one another since it's not a huge place. I ordered the grilled beef brochette (6 pieces of melt-in-your-mouth tender beef, green and red bell peppers, pearl onions, roasted tomato, rice, hummus, pita) and a white wine sangria. Aside from the beef being extremely tasty, the sides didn't stand out too much. Bf ordered the Atlantic salmon dish which came with some kind of succotash on top with veggies and potatoes. It was good as well, but overall the meal wasn't extremely memorable. I only remember everything because of the pictures. Cute date night place, but not somewhere I would crave. Problem: This is not a Greek restaurant. It is named after a Greek island and has a few Greek dishes. The food was good, but it's not what you'd expect from a true Greek restaurant. We had the grilled kalamari. Very tasty, but it was really a lettuce salad topped by grilled calamari with a lemon vinaigrette. We also had the spanakopita and bourek - Greek and middle eastern fusion and very tasty. The "Greek salad" resembled an American salad with a chunk of feta on it. My grilled vegetables were very good, but not a Greek briam, which I was hoping for but wasn't on the menu. Think of it this way: you go to what you are led to believe is Mexican restaurant called Cafe Guadalajara; you find a few Mexican dishes on the menu that are generically Mexican and not really reflective of the cuisine of Jalisco, and the bulk of the other menu items are Italian, Argentinian, and Cuban. My review is WAY overdue for this restaurant. My wife and I have been to this restaurant countless times throughout the years and always bring our guests, friends, and family! Cafe Santorini is located in Old Town Pasadena across the iPic Theatres. It is located upstairs and I don't believe it is handicap friendly (which is currently a bummer since I broke my foot). Cafe Santorini serves up excellent Mediterranean food and also has a pretty good wine and cocktail list. Somewhat pricey but definitely worth it as the ambiance is really nice. We usually try and sit out on the patio, especially when the weather is favorable. Food: I usually order the Farfalle con Pesto e Pollo. Chicken is marinated perfectly and grilled served on top of farfalle pasta with a cilantro pesto sauce. I have also tried the chicken kabob plate which is also one of my favorites. Basically you can never go wrong with any dish! Beef, lamb, chicken, salmon I have heard is all delicious. Service: can vary from time to time (especially if they are busy) but they have always been courteous and patient even with large groups. Eric, the bartender, was fabulous. At first, I wanted a lychee martini, but they did not have that since this restaurant does not get too many requests for that. SO, he made me a martini that had champagne in it. I forgot what it was called but it was really good. Then, we had a raspberry lemon drop. OMG, it was so good! I'd recommend that. The garlic parsley fries were delicious and came with a lot but right after we received them one of them men working came by and added practically another serving worth into our fry basket because he said we didn't have enough. SOOOO delicious, my favorite was the white sangria it had just the right amount of citrus and was quite refreshing. My boyfriend got vodka tonics and was happy with them, strong, just how vodka tonics should be! For their happy hour they had select appetizers all $5 each , $5 sangrias and 40%all drinks. The perfectly marinated steak and poached eggs satisfied every bit of my taste buds and the salad....the salad.... what sorcery is this?!?! Their dressing (some sort of vinaigrette?) topped on the salad was SOOOO GOOD. I esp. loved eating the mushrooms that were mixed into the salad. However, their hummus did not match to par compare to their entrees/garlic bread. Don't get me wrong, it was NOT bad, definitely good but not TOO amazing. The garlic bread was so yummy, I used that to eat with the hummus because the pita bread that was served alongside with it was hard...x__x yikes. I've been coming to old town Pasadena for decades and can't believe I've never been to Cafe Santorini. The restaurant is actually located upstairs in a brick walled building on Union Street and next to the Ipic theater, one block north of "Old Town's" Colorado Boulevard. The food, portions and atmosphere is terrific. Good place to go with friends or even a romantic dinner. We made reservations on weeknight to celebrate our anniversary and got seated outside the roof top balcony which is the best seat in the house. Not too crowded or overly busy when we arrived. The wine list is extensive, with each glass running around $7-$15. For starters, we ordered grilled calamari appetizer, baba ghanoush and a bottle of Merlot to go with our dinner. The calamari was grilled to perfection, tender and fabulous. More like a salad dish, fresh and generously portioned. We both loved the baba ghanoush spread with pita bread and though it was delicious, it was more than we could finish. Our waiter was attentive, helpful and made recommendations on their popular dishes. We ordered the red curry risotto with seafood and seafood cioppino. The cioppino was bundled full of seafood - clams, mussels, shrimp, fish, and scallops. They did not skimp on the seafood and the tomato broth was outstanding. I had a choice of ordering linguine with my dish, but it was filling enough just by itself. My wife enjoyed the red curry risotto, not too spicy and really good. Of course no anniversary would be complete without tasty desserts. We both made sure to make extra space for it and ordered their crème brulee and tiramisu. Also, since we were celebrating our anniversary, our server included a complimentary flourless chocolate cake with our dessert order. Talk about over indulgence and guilty pleasures. Both the crème brulee and chocolate cake were devoured instantly. Tiramisu was okay...I actually had better elsewhere. Not intense enough with liquor and espresso flavoring. I ordered the seafood cioppino over linguine which has salmon, shrimp, calamari, scallops, mussels, chili flakes, and basil in marinara sauce. Some of the items in the appetizer platter were good, particularly the falafel and stuffed grape leaves. The seafood in my entree was ah-MAZ-ing, but the linguine was just ok. There was quite a lot of seafood too, so it was worth the price. My mom really liked the complimentary bread (she usually does), and I have to say it's quite well seasoned. I must say, spending our 21st wedding anniversary here was one of the better dinner date we have had in a long while. Their Spicy Tuna tartar starter was so fresh and light, Grilled Calamari was most wonderful. The Service was excellence! Very attentive and our glasses were never empty. Main course was wonderful, no complaint and desert to die for. The setting was nice even if there was an annoying lady at the next table you can kind of zone her out. My husband and I will definitely go back for my birthday dinner in 3 weeks. Great for group and couples. read more

Beautiful ambience! Great music and wonderful location. But unfortunately the food was mediocre. The cioppino was 90% calamari. After 3 bites I became totally over it. I would have given 4 stars but the service was not to great either. They unfortunately forgot about us most of the night. Although I'm willing to try again and maybe order different plates.
