While I'm often skeptical of new boba shops, I am an avid fan of trying them just so that I stay updated on ever-changing boba landscape of the East Bay! While stuck at home in quarantine (this is literally the longest time I've ever been without sushi and boba #firstworldprobs), I decided that it was #bobatime. Through Doordash, I ordered the matcha ice cream milk tea, rose milk tea and strawberry milk tea. While this place's focus isn't on the potency of teas or the milkiness of the milks, I thought they still did a good job of making sure the drink flavors stood out and were memorable. Drinks were definitely on the sweeter side, but not overly so. I really wanted to try their signature lavender breeze, which is a lavender soda, but it was not available on Doordash. Matcha ice cream milk tea: exactly as advertised-- tasted like the creamy, not too matcha-y ice cream buckets that you can get at your local Asian grocery store. They also included a couple of scoops of ice cream at the top that were still intact. The drink itself also tasted like matcha ice cream, not really more watered / milked down than the ice cream itself, although the consistency was thinner than melted ice cream (which is probably what you want in a drink). 3.5/5. Rose milk tea: generally, rose milk tea turns out pretty artificial since people aren't brewing up dried rose petals. This spot actually had a couple rehydrated petals in the drink, so maybe...? The balance between the slight bitterness of the tea and the milkiness of the drink was well balanced without sacrificing rose flavor. Definitely one of the better rose milk teas that I've had, although the bar for best is lower on this. Compared to TapEx Union City, where I normally get rose milk tea, this one is definitely less artificial. 3.75/5. Strawberry milk tea: this was the perfect drink for the bf. Cue story of how I brought strawberries to him once and he didn't want to eat them until I blended them into a milkshake. Some people just like the artificial flavor version of fruits more I guess. The flavor of this was like the strawberry Nesquik on steroids-- creamy strawberry, if that were ever a thing. I guess kinda like strawberries and cream but somehow without the milk part of the cream. He would definitely get this one again. 3.75/5. Almost forgot to comment on the boba! How could I? While the boba was not sweetened independently with syrup, it did seem to have some sweetness to it (inherent? a really light syrup?).
