I go to Caffe Luxxe and spend more money than I would if I walked half a block up the street to Starbucks, because the coffee and environment is well worth it. I think that any complaints about the staff not being friendly come from the fact that you are not assaulted with artificial friendliness the moment you walk in the door - as many employees are trained to do at chain establishments. I find the genuine service at Caffe Luxxe refreshing. In my experience the baristas are funny, cool, and super knowledgeable about their product. Been here a few times for business meetings. The coffee is delicious and worth the few minutes wait. It's a little pricey, but worth it because you can taste the quality. My only constructive criticism is the 3 times that I've been here, the staff does not say "hello" or acknowledge you until you're literally the person at the front of the line. This may seem picky, but the three times I've been here, there was only one person in front of me and the people behind the counter didn't greet me at all...not even the ones who were clearly free and not helping other guests. There's parking in the back! Life is so much easier when parking is available. The place is small and quaint, some seating inside and outside, not huge. The guys working there were nice and helpful. Why the 3 stars? I'm use to coffee being super burning hot, you know the wait 10 min before sipping type of hot. But when my friend and I went, he got a black coffee, I got a latte, it was just warm. This is great coffee I would have to say. There aren't many non-chain store coffee shops in Irvine so when I had an cappuccino here I was amazed how good coffee can taste. Just espresso shots, steamed milk, and a shot of hazelnut. Oh, and they do some pretty damn good latte art as well :D. Also, this is right next to Sweet Rose Cremery. So I start off there with my ice cream (I think I got Salted Caramel) and I walked over to Caffe Luxxe for a shot of espresso and voila I've got myself an afogado. Soo good. I stumbled upon this cafe on my drive up to the canyons for a run. I knew I would need a post run/hike drink and I'm so freaking glad I came here. Clearly I'm a coffee nut because most people would quench their post run thirst with water but apparently caffeine is my water. I ordered a large iced coffee with soy milk and was hooked on my first sip. I wanted to leap over the counter and stick my mouth under the coffee drip. It really is that good. I think what makes a difference is they don't use coffee that's already been brewed & refrigerated like most shops. Instead, they brew each cup of coffee and then add the ice to it, big big difference. The shop is located right on 26th street and there is ample parking in the Brentwood Country Mart lot in back. read more

This is maybe a case of bad timing: while my wife was down the street at her salon appointment, I came in to Caffe Luxxe in search of a pastry. Unfortunately, they were training a new employee, and I waited nearly five minutes while both people behind the counter were filling coffee orders. I know, five minutes is not a long time to wait, but you know what's an even better option? No wait whatsoever cuz I'm just getting a pastry! Having vented, let me say that this was one good pastry, and I expect the coffee is just as splendid. I prefer this location to the other 2. Parking is easy since it's located in the Brentwood Country Mart & they have a lot of outdoor seating unlike the other 2 locations that just have a bench outside. Also the people that work at this location are a lot nicer & less pretentious than the other locations Caffe Luxxe serves smooth espresso with no bitter afterfinish. They have a great selection, one of my favorites being a Gibraltar which probably is best described as somewhere between a cappuccino and a macchiato. The Shakerato is also a great iced drink for the summer. I love how it's a touch of mocha flavor which doesn't make it overwhelming sweet & it's shaken, so no leftover icecubes to water down your drink. The pastry selection is ok. Their croissants are not worth those extra pounds. Also no wi-fi here which some people may find annoying but you can definitely appreciate. Their apple & rosemary tart (they used some posh Italian name, but it's basically a mini apple pie) was DELICIOUS and I would get it again. 3. One of my favorite coffee places! First time at this location. Staff is lovely. Whenever I come to Santa Monica, I make sure to buy a couple of pounds of the house blend. This location has an intimate feel to it. After a long drive, I was offered a cup of ice water, and a delicious cookie. I'm a coffee snob, and this place delivered. It's one of my favorite places in the LA area. I've only had their Ethiopia pour over (twice), but it was incredible. My wife has ordered the Cafe Carmelo both times and loves it. The shop is small, but they have some tall seating inside and some tables outside.
