My friend and I had reservations for breakfast, and it would have been a great experience had the waitress not ask us to leave after an hour and a half. We had our meal and then coffees afterwards, talking and catching up, when the waitress came to us (two black women)and asked us to leave (because there were customers waiting to be seated)...there was no "seating limit" policy posted anywhere. While this establishment has been here for many years this was our first visit to the quaint and beautifully lit restaurant housed in the old greenhouse of Robertson's Florist. From the minute you enter you are taken with the abundant natural light and fauna laden brick walls making the decor breathtaking. The service is very attentive and friendly and the menu offerings were original variations of classic standard lunch fare leading to quite flavorful bites. Cozy little spot just feet off the Avenue in Chestnut Hill. Took me six months to get over here and try it, but I'm glad I finally did. The ambiance here is incredible and perfect for this style of restaurant/cafe. The greenhouse obviously gives you the outdoor feel which is amazing during those spring and fall months when it's gorgeous out, but might still be on the chilly side. Just so relaxing. We went for breakfast and I will certainly be doing that again. I got the basics: bacon, eggs, hash browns & toast. Everything was delicious. Even the toast was note worthy because if I'm not mistaken, its from Baker's Street Bread. Love seeing local places supporting each other! Not only was my meal very tasty, but all the food I saw being served around me looked amazing. I will be getting the french toast next time. Also got some baked goods on the way out. Fruit tart and S'mores tart were both really really good. The menu was on the small side, but when everything is so good, you don't need that many options. The place opens for brunch on Sundays at 10 a.m. Here's what you need to know. It could be a driving rain. It could be cold and flurrying. The line to get in starts around 9:30. By the time they open, the line is often quite long. I've often seen people at the end of the line not be able to get a table. There are only so many tables--and it's not a small place, so there are a lot of tables. The food really is that good. Another tip: If you don't feel like standing in line, Campbell's Pub, right down the street at 8337 Germantown Avenue, opens for brunch at 11. We were told the wait would be 30-40 mins. I gave them my number and they told me they would call when a seat is ready. We went around the corner to Starbucks until then. Cake was the perfect place for our engagement-party-turned-surprise wedding! When my husband and I decided to get married, we knew we wanted to do something a little off-the-beaten-path that would allow us to celebrate our marriage with our friends and family without getting sucked into the hoopla of a traditional wedding. Cake provided the perfect venue to host this event, and we couldn't have been more pleased with the level of service leading up to and the night of the event - not to mention the food! The planning of our event was made so easy by Gray, who was friendly, enthusiastic, and so helpful in walking us through not only the menu and menu selections but also the flow of the event and how her staff would be able to help us pull off the surprise. As a venue, Cake, a converted greenhouse, is beautiful on its own - and this made it all the easier to plan and host an event there, as it meant that we didn't need to focus on decorations. We chose to bring a few decorations, including a few DIY flower arrangements and some items for a gift/favor/guest book table, all of which were just finishing touches on the already beautiful space. We were able to provide final numbers and menu selections a week prior to the event, which gave us a lot of flexibility in finalizing the guest list, and were able to drop off all alcohol (beer and wine) and decorations the day before the party, which allowed us to relax on the day of while the staff at Cake set everything up for us. From the minute we arrived to the end of the party, Gray and her staff were so attentive, refreshing the food and beverages seamlessly. They were also particularly attentive to how we were planning to announce our surprise wedding. In the planning stage, we had agreed upon a plan in which a specific song would begin to play at a specific time, my husband and I would make an announcement, and the staff would start handing out glasses of sparkling wine; on the day of the party, this had to be delayed for various reasons, and Gray came to find me to ensure that she and her staff were on the same page and would be able to help us in the way that we wanted. About the food - all of the dishes, from the passed appetizers to the buffet, were delicious and lovely and more than enough food for our guests, even though we didn't offer a main entree. In fact, we had so much food that the staff at Cake boxed up our leftovers, which we were able to nosh on for a few days after the wedding! We were particularly thankful for this, as we hadn't been able to partake in as much of the food as we would've liked during the wedding, like any bride and groom. :) All in all, Cake helped us pull off exactly the wedding we had envisioned, and we are so grateful to them! read more

Two things: The balsamic portobello mushroom with farro, mozzarella, and assorted vegetables was amazing. I wish I could remember the exact name of the dish! It was so good, I only ate half so that I could eat the remainder the next day. The mushrooms were bursting with tangy, balsamic flavor that mingled so nicely with the meaty texture of the portobellos. The lemon tart is the best version of a citrus dessert that I have ever had. I really hate lemon things that are overly sweet. I also hate when they are mussed up by fruit or other adornments. The citron dessert features smooth, pucker-worthy lemon custard over the thinnest of chocolate-y layers, couched in a light, crumby shell. Heaven! Dinner is only served Thursday and Friday. Make a reservation to be guaranteed a seat. Last seating is 8:30p. Go early to avoid missing out on certain menu selections. The trout was very popular the night I stopped in and was 86ed fairly fast. I thought the prices were very fair considering the restaurants use of fresh, local, organic ingredients. The menu appears to make great use of seasonal variety and I imagine we'll be seeing some creative squash dishes soon. Ordered: started with a decadently warmed chocolate croissant. It was perfect with their house coffee. My fiancé ordered the breakfast burrito, we thought it was a bit bland. It was missing something to help with the texture. I ordered the Eggs Madame which was "two poached eggs with honey ham & melted swiss cheese atop a half croissant with saffron hollandaise sauce and home fries". The dish was good. Their home fries were made to my liking, nicely season and crispy. Service: the ladies here were very nice and greeted us immediately. They always filled our water and coffee. The ambiance to this place was great. I think it may have been a greenhouse or atrium at one time. It was bright, warm and had a neighborhood vibe. We started with the Belgian waffle, which my boyfriend and I both agreed it was the best waffle we ever had... light, fluffy, buttery and in NO need of syrup. The crab cakes were mouth watering, and were served with poached eggs and saffron hollandaise sauce. The crab cakes were slightly crispy on the outside but soft and full of crab on the inside. I was extremely impressed. My boyfriend had the (chargrilled!) Ribeye steak and eggs. He said the steak was soft and flavorful. Now, my pics don't look that great. I think it's because the actual plates they served the meal on were big, so all looks like small servings. I also got a birthday cake. Yes, an entire cake just for me, lol, compliments of my other half. I think the outside was butter cream. It was three layers of vanilla cake with dark chocolate ganache, if I had to guess.
