I ordered the mayo on the side thinking the mayo had the spice. the chicken breast is coated in a fiery rub. the "spicy mayo" was tame. The sandwich had no flavor and was essentially inedible due to the very hot spice rub. the sandwich had fresh green lettuce and tomato. the restaurant is clean, plenty of seating and we were the only customers except for employees eating at 1:30pm. To clarify, I loved the kebab plate here. I originally gave this place 5 stars but here's how the situation has changed: Part of what made that kebab plate delicious was the hummus. I went there tonight at 7:15pm** and got two (2) kebab plates and was again disappointed to find that that YET AGAIN I was shorted hummus. I am being generous to describe what is on our plates is ~1TBS of hummus. This has now happened four times and I do not understand why this dish could go from being so fantastic to being so anemic on one of the main components of the dish. The hummus used to be a key component and served accordingly. Now I've got a cup of salad, two kebabs, two and a half cups of rice, three tiny slices of French bread, garlic sauce and a mere teaspoonful of hummus. I have almost twice as much garlic sauce as I do hummus. Stop this madness. ** The posted hours indicates that they close at 8pm but the counter person told the two of us that it was "to-go only" because it was 7:15pm and they're "about to close". This was odd because the 5 friends of the counter person (who had just ordered and gotten their drinks) just went and sat down. They were not busy or crowded. Drove by 45 mins before closing, it was pretty empty. Honestly was on my way to Wendy's and then we saw this small place behind it. The service was really nice. All the workers came and greeted us and help us figure out what we would like. It was really great to come into a place knowing that they are willing to walk you through the menu to help find what will fit for you. We ordered their fruit tart, garlic chicken sandwich, and French fries. Their fruit tart , oh my goodness it was amazing ! It's made in house and it has the right balance of sweetness. Garlic chicken sandwhich, could use more sauce. Sadly the chicken was drier than I expected. French fries, crispy yet still soft . Still good. Went for the first time yesterday after my besties graduation and the staff was so accommodating. A friend of mine recommended this place to me so I decided to give this place a shot. It all started when I ordered at the counter. The cashier was friendly enough so that I would feel welcome. Plus the interior design of the restaurant was super modern and clean looking. However, the food was where it all went downhill. I ordered the chicken garlic sandwich combo (with fries) and iced tea. All I wanted was to enjoy the sandwich but it failed me. Why? I found the taste of the garlic sauce to be mediocre at best (definitely a lemon garlic wannabe), the bread was drier than the desert, and the fries were just like any other ones elsewhere (sooo depressing). The only plus was that the iced tea was refreshing and that's about it. And paying around $10 for a plain sandwich with fancy sauce? What a rip-off. Stopped for a quick brunch with my 11 year old. He loved his crepes and Avocado Toast. Food was made fresh to order. I really liked the light and "simple" menu choices. They had only a few choices but nailed those choices. So this establishment is not one of those 20 types of pancakes option places but if you want a simple, good brunch or light lunch, this is the place. BTW, the avo toast looked better but I had to modify so my son could eat both eggs.. portion was generous since we share and we were pretty satisfied. Had the avocado toast with an egg on top. The seasoning is delicious. The egg is small but cooked perfectly to my specifications! I had ordered a whole order but that is 2 large slices of a whole grain (delicious!!) toast so I am taking one home; just moved the egg to the one I was eating. It covered a little more than half which was fine for me as I enjoyed the taste of the pure avocado toast the way they made it, alternating with the egg portion. I also ordered a sugar free vanilla cafe latte. It was wonderful too!! I've usually have a regular cafe latte but this was a really nice change. A little like having a dessert with breakfast. Yum! I discovered this gem a couple of months ago and it is very clean and the food is really good. Unfortunately, today that impression is gone. When I walked in there were three workers and they seemed to be playing around. They were loudly laughing and talking. The cashier took my order and while I was waiting, they continued to play in the kitchen. Everything was ready but the fries. The lady with the blond and brownish hair took her gloves off while she was cooking my fries and started touching the her pockets and jeans. The fries were done and she never went to wash her hands or put on gloves. She proceeded to touch the inside of the fry bag. She was rude and had an attitude when I asked for a refund. The man that was also cooking had on black gloves and left the kitchen and came back putting his own food in his mouth. He never changed his gloves after leaving the kitchen and walking back in while putting food in his mouth. He immediately got some bread to start making another person's order. I am considering calling the health department. The lady didn't want to give me the name or contact information of the person to file a complaint with. Calf and Chick is located in Torrance. They specialize in Mediterranean food, which I'm a sucker for. Their building is kinda conjoined with the Wendy's nearby, but it's a separate establishment. Their food is like the better healthy "going out" alternative. I wasn't the biggest fan of the falafel sandwhich, but it looked really interesting. It was advertised on this giant poster with you walk on so I had to try it. I do think for those that like falafel, this would be a good pick. The beef kebab plate is the way to go though. If you don't like beef they also have a chicken one which I was tempted to order. The kebab is quite tender and they have this housemade very garlicky (if that counts as a word) dipping sauce that is bomb. A little goes a long way. The crepe was really tasty too, but more so of a breakfast food for sure. They also sell some pastries in the front too and the staff are friendly.
