Food is always pretty solid every time I order from here. Usually I order online and pick up in person, which is convenient. Most of the times I order the fish combo that comes with two sides. More recently I tried the plant based fish and chips and thought it was not bad even though it tasted more like chicken nuggets haha. (Not in a cute seared kind of way more of a she's not done cooking and I'll get sick kind of way) but also..sometiems it's perfectly cooked. My family and I enjoy California Fish Grill and frequent many Orange County locations for years. We have been to Anaheim, Fountain Valley and Brea on a regular and have never been disappointed. I met my family at the Brea location this past Sunday, June 1st and we all thought that Brea is the BEST!! The food was beyond fresh and flavorful and the servings very generous. The restaurant is very clean and Miguel was working the dining room/patio and he was kind and helpful with cleaning a table for our family and checking on us. He is definitely a great employee and I think the manager that evening was Anna and she was lovely. My husband and I went in to eat around 4:30 today (Monday, April 28th) The places was mostly empty. 1 or 2 tables and us. We ordered our food. We received our fish plate w/ rice and zucchini. The zucchini was cold as ice. My husband ate his he was hungry. I tried and couldn't finish the cold zucchini. To me, there is no excuse for serving cold veggies. The food is great. We've been here a couple of times- mostly for take out, no complaints there. They always package everything to perfection, include sauces, utensils, napkins etc. Yesterday, Friday 6/10/22 for the first time we decided to dine in. Customer service from the cashier was lacking significantly, she seemed bothered to even being present- who knows may be she had a tough day. I asked for Perrier or Pellegrino sparkling water and she just picked a Evian grapefruit flavored soda and scanned it. I didn't realize it was flavored until I tasted it. The kiosks here keep costs down, but also slow down the line quite a bit. However, the huge menu that you can see while waiting in line should make it easy. As long as you know what you want to order the kiosk is very logical and will eventually make the line faster than traditional cashiers in my opinion. Now, onto the food. The quality of the food has not changed one bit. The prices are a little higher than a few years ago, but have not increased as fast as other restaurants. Therefore, this restaurant is an excellent value for fresh fish cooked perfectly. Now, you get two sides Once you've picked your protein. There are a larger variety of sides than before. The sliced grilled zucchini is gone, but you can get cubed zucchini, which has a lot of flavor. Fried and rice pilaf is same as before. The kale salad doesn't taste like it's healthy but it is. My favorite is chopped tomatoes and feta cheese in a light tangy dressing. I look forward to trying all the sides including the premium ones. The fast casual ambiance is still there even though you have to pick up your own tray when your name is called but you don't have to bus your own table. Service is still 10/10. The quality of the fish they serve here is fresh, therefore you will not have a fishy aftertaste regardless for which item of fish you order off the menu. Fish I ordered the Cajun shrimp taco combo which comes with two tacos, two sides (I ordered rice and beans), and a drink. My order came out to about $10.00 which is great for two shrimp tacos. They make sure to add enough shrimp per taco and they have an extremely flavorful batter they cook the shrimp in. Extremely great tasting tacos. I definitely recommend trying the tacos here. Salsa Bar They have a really great tasting salsa bar. There are about 10 cocktail sauces (some are salsa) that you can try. I come to this location regularly and my favorite plate to order is the Swai fish, I like to pair it with the white rice and the rosemary zucchinis and for the topping I usually get the seasoned olive oil! The portions are very big and filling! On tonight's visit, I ordered my food through the self-serve kiosk & DEAN came over and told me to let him know if I needed any help. The entire time I was in the dining room he was either busing tables or tidying up the dining area. I was done eating my meal and Dean came over and offered to take my plate away. Damn this place is amazing. We came in around 8pm to satisfy our late night fish taco cravings. We ordered the fish taco combo with the kale slaw and Street corn. Not only is this location our favorite one, because the friendly service, always fresh food, fast meals, always clean, and comfortable seating area, but the employee Jose just made our favorite spot even better! My daughter was sad because she dropped one of her breaded shrimps on the floor, a nice big one that she was saving for last. Jose came to check on us and make sure we're enjoying our meals, and we said of course it was delicious but told him the story of our daughters separation anxiety from her favorite piece of shrimp lol! Without any hesitation, he walked to the kitchen and told her she's not allowed to be sad anymore because he gave her a fresh shrimp! First day back in California and was craving a quick seafood lunch and CFG was right in front of us as we exited Total Wine. A quick check on Yelp showed good reviews so off we went. Food: We stood there for a second getting orientated, spoke to a couple locals who recommended a few can't miss menu items. Wife went with the Cajun Salmon Salad and I choose the special with was BBQ Rockfish and Shrimp Skewers with a side of Kale Slaw and Beans. The Rockfish was tender and flaky, shrimps were perfectly cooked, and the slaw was the perfect side dish bringing some acidity to the party. Wife also really enjoyed her Salmon Salad with the fish prepared just right being very moist and flaky. We also loved the self service sauce bar allowing patrons to load up on their favorites. CFG also feature a nice selection of craft beers and wines to pair with your favorite dish. Service: Order at the counter and pick up when ready makes it an easy experience and the counter staff were all friendly and helpful. Food came out quickly and expertly prepared and staff offered their recommendation. Overall good service. Atmosphere: Comfortable environment but they had removed the booths and high tops shown in early photos for this location replacing them with tables and chairs. There was also an outdoor seating area but the draw back being the view is the parking lot. Value: Great value for the quality of the ingredients and overall meal composition. Even the wine and beer are priced very reasonably and one of our better price/value ratios on this trip. We love California fish grill and have been a loyal customer to the Brea location for years. They always have good food and exceptional service. Never really had any problems or concerns until today. We placed 4 orders of the fish and chips and received all 4 orders steaming hot, in melted plastic containers. Not acceptable! Called the store, spoke to a store associate who quickly transferred the call to the manager Chris. They tried to justify the melted plastic by contributing it to the high food temperature. Of course I know that, but the fact that none of the staff saw a concern in that itself is very concerning. Most of us with common sense know that the melted plastic can release unwanted chemical into the food, which can be a very likely cause for cancer. I'm sure the owner or the staff would not consume or serve anything like that to their loved ones, so why is it okay to serve this to your customers? I suggested them switching the container to possibly paper vs using a foil in between the hot food and the plastic lid... or simply letting the food sit for a couple minutes before covering with lid. For the lid to be distorted, they probably covered it instantly from frying oil. Unfortunately, I don't think the staffs are too receptive to suggestions, neither are they apologetic. Literally the quickest way to make healthy food unhealthy ( or should I say cancer causing) by serving melted plastic , yum! Instead of being offered a solution, for example having food remade, I was instructed by Chris to bring the food back for a refund. Hopefully, they aren't repackaging it for the next customer. Anyhow, bad experience today, probably won't be back. And maybe if the owner reads this and has any bit of conscience, he or she would do something about it for the sake of customers' health... read more

Love this place! Been coming to this location ever since it opened. The fish is grilled wonderfully with the sauce flavor of your choice. I always get the Atlantic salmon with half garlic butter and half cajun with fries and kaleslaw. It all tastes fresh (and semi-healthy haha). The condiments are great too with the fish. I recently also tried the fried calamari starter which was delicious too. The grilled shrimp tacos are very filling as well. So after an early morning appointment in Brea, I ended up at the California Fish Grill off the 57 Freeway and Imperial Highway. I have been to their location in Anaheim Hills and it probably has been a year since my last visit. Location: The Fish Grill is located at the Brea Plaza tugged away between plenty of restaurants and a movie theater. Parking is plentiful during the day but I can imagine that it will get packed during the night. Atmosphere: This is a large clean restaurant which was very busy during Friday lunch hour. The restaurant offers plenty of seating plus a small outside patio for those who like fresh air. I also like that they have an open kitchen where you can see all the other dishes being prepared right in front of you. My order was taken quickly by a friendly employee behind the counter. Food: I ordered the Battered Fish Taco plate which comes with Rice & Beans and a fountain drink reasonable priced for under $9.00 I them made my way to an available table and headed over to the salsa bar and the drink station. Since the place just opened at 11:00 am everything looked clean, no complains here! My food arrived after approx 12-15 min which you have to pick up from the counter. I was impressed by the huge portion but something was just missing. The Fish Taco itself is tasty but somehow the taco is too big which is crazy. Perhaps a little bit less of the corn tortilla, maybe thinner with less ingredients. After one taco I felt I was full and didn't care for all the carbs. The rice and bean were alright but also nothing to write home about. I really wanted to like this place, sorry but it feels more like a fast food chain chain and not an high end seafood place I expected. Verdict: 3 stars,imho. I probably won't be back.
