If there was an option to put zero stars, that is what I would do because they deserve it. I've been in the service industry and even own a restaurant. I had called and ordered a white pizza, and it was horrible! It was not a white pizza and it was very chewy (thank god for hot sauce). I am not one to complain but I was disappointed enough to do so. Although I had called and asked if they had a white pizza prior to ordering it (and they said yes), the manager/owner had insisted that since the white pizza was not on the menu, it wasn't their fault that it was horrible. They did not try to fix the situation in anyway and they have definitely lost a customer. Little bit of advice to the "manager"...... maybe you shouldn't put out a product that isn't on the menu and take responsibility for the mistake instead of putting the blame on the customers. Cappy's pizza is fresh and the seasonings are well balanced. The crust is crispy with out being burnt. My teens eat here about once a week and love the New York style cheese pizza. They really enjoy both the garlic bread sticks and the cheese bread, in fact tonight my daughter just wanted the garlic bread sticks. My wife and I order the Chicago style deep dish pizza. After leaving the midwest and moving to Florida and since Windy City Pizza on Dale Mabry closed we have not found a great deep dish pizza until Cappy's! The staff here is always accommodating and pleasant to deal with, we look forward to having Jeremy as our waiter. It is pleasant to dine in and easy to order for pick up. Either way we always enjoy the food. They deserve the five stars. read more

Went for lunch with a friend. They have some lunch specials. We opted for 2 different $8.50 lunch specials. 2 slices, salad, and drink and calzone, salad, & drink. Dressing for the salad was great. Pizza was alright and I was not a fan of the calzone...no ricotta. OK for a quick lunch, but up the street, I can get 2 great slices and a drink for $5. read more

I've had lunch here a couple times. Every visit has been great. It's great for groups or with just a buddy since you can get slices during lunch. Their spinach and goat cheese salad is legit! The only bummer is that they don't deliver and they close earlier than most pizza places. read more

This was such a bad experience me and my friends went and it took 20 mins to get us seated in and there were at least 2 open booths read to seat, the servers were terrible took so long to get anything to the table and the pizza tasted something out of lunchables. I've only ever done take out in my three trips to Cappy's, but it has been great every time. I am only giving it 4 stars instead of 5 because having lived in Chicago for many years, this Chicago style is not quite authentic Chicago. The crust is never "burnt" around the edges and the sausage comes in chunks as opposed to covering the entire pie like a disk. It is certainly the best version around the area though, and highly recommend it. The restaurant itself is quite interesting inside, and they have a decent enough selection of brew for you while you wait (which is never more than 30-45 minutes from the time you call even during peak hours). There is a small patio outside as well for those that want to be in the open air, but your view is of a strip mall parking lot. Haven't tried their New York style, but why would I. New York style is the little step-brother to Chicago when it comes to pizza. read more

Not the best pizza but not too bad compared to others in the area. The crust is not very flavorful and it could have been better with a little more Sauce and cheese. My sweet hubby and I have wanted to try Cappy's for some time and we finally made it in last week. I hate to admit it but I was disappointed. The appetizer cheesy bread was quite good but when the pizza arrived it wasn't quite what we expected. We ordered an all meat topping pizza with ricotta. The ricotta was not tasty and was quite sparse. The dough was more like a biscuit instead of a crust. The sauce was alright but the toppings were second rate, especially the ham. The staff was super friendly and I really want to like this place but it's just not for me. read more

Worst pizza experience of my life. The first time I ordered from Cappy's I ordered a large sausage pizza and a small deep dish pizza. I received a small cheese pizza (not deep dish) and a large sausage pizza. I called back and they put me on the comp list for my next visit. So I gave them another try and ordered a large sausage pizza again and a small deep dish pizza. I got home and received a large pepperoni pizza instead of the sausage pizza AGAIN. I called to get on the comp list again and they called back asking to receive a picture of my pepperoni pizza. They accused me of lying when in fact they just have inadequate employees to get an order correct. Never will ever go to this place again. Worst experience and horrible management. read more

I love the deep dish, it takes longer to cook so make sure you have the time. Before you lament that there is no good pizza in Florida, you must come here! Great atmosphere, friendly staff, eclectic decor. My Chicago friends turned me on to Cappy's as it reminds them of home. We moved here from Chicago and when we moved here we were told to try Cappy's in Seminole Heights, (close to my work), and we did and went back several times. We then found out that there is a Cappy's in New Tampa, and we went there a few times, but it is out of the way so not as much as Seminole Heights. The other night my husband was in the New Tampa area and brought home a pizza and it was wrong. It had jalapeno peppers on the pizza. We live in Land O Lakes and he was not aware that the pizza had jalapeno peppers on it until he got home and as soon as he bit into the pizza he found there were hot peppers on the pizza. He called, and did not want to go back, so the person on the phone said he would give us credit for a pizza. My husband drove back there to get a pizza tonight and he was told "you do this all the time", WTH??? We don't even go there because it is a drive from us. I called and asked for the manager. I explained he must have the wrong people as we probably have not been there in at least a couple of years. He said he has credited us MANY times for wrong pizzas, and I said it is not us, we don't go there often because it is not convenient. Our name is common, as I pointed it out? The conversation definitely escalated and he was incredibly rude, and I think I may have overreacted due to just being shocked by anyone treating customers the way he did. I asked for the name of the owners and he said "I am the owner", I said "Ok, what is your name?" He REFUSED to give me his name after I asked SEVERAL times. He kept asking, "why do you need my name, what are you going to do". We are very capable of paying for a pizza, but we do want the right pizza. This is unfortunate because we did really liked Cappys because it was a Chicago style pizza. At this point I will not be back to Cappys and I will also make sure that everyone I know hears of this incredibly bad experience. Unbelievably bad customer service. We absolutely love Cappy's. Our server, Jeremy, is so friendly and remembers what we drink and eat. He has become one of our friends too. The pizza is wonderful and the service is great. We went to Cappy's on the night of our 20th wedding anniversary. We told Jerermy that we wanted to spend it eating our favorite pizza, at our favorite pizzeria with our favorite server. This is honest to goodness real NY pizza. It's made by hand by an expert as one can tell from wonderful flavors and the delicious and authentic crust. The folks here are friendly and attentive and it's not unusual for the chef to deliver your pizza to your table! This is NOT commercial pizza so be forewarned that you are in for a real treat here! The greek salad is the best in Tampa hands down. (Yes, it's better than the greek restaurants in the area.) Gotta love 'em! read more

My best friend & I ordered a Chicago style Cappy's pizza. She is new to the neighborhood so we gave a medium sized Cappy's pizza with Greek salad. I had my first slice and was instantly disappointed. Where is the cheese? I encountered no topping on my first slice. Just lots of bread and tomato sauce. Ok. I got one bad piece? So, my friend got me a 2nd slice and I threw the bread away from the first. My friend was already complaining her piece was just bread too. My 2nd piece was the same. I did encounter a small piece of topping. Not enough to count. We both went back to the box and began to scrape the other pieces that were left. No cheese really. Nothing really to scrape. We threw the whole thing in the trash uneaten. The Greek salad was mostly the iceberg lettuce from a bag. Some tiny bits of tomatoes. A couple scoops of potato salad....some crumbles of cheese in one small area. If you like iceberg salads, go for it! I like Greek salad which is mostly chunks of tomatoes, cucumber, feta, green pepper, some lettuce is fine. There was green pepper. A couple olives as expected. Huge iceberg salad is really what it is. $30 for a medium pizza and a Greek salad. We threw the pizza out. The iceberg salad will be in the trash after picking everything out to eat around the huge quantities of iceberg lettuce. If it was delicious it would have been great value! $30 to throw your dinner away. Not good value. Keep looking elsewhere if you want a great Chicago style pizza. It's true...another reviewer said if it doesn't weigh 3 pounds from the weight of the cheese it ain't Chicago style. I don't need that much on top....but cheese & toppings are mandatory.
