Tried this place for the first time a while back at the Yelp event, and we also purchased some extra items of course! I can only hope they open a closer location because I can't see making the drive out just to eat fried fish. However, the quality of the dishes in conjunction with fair price points made for an excellent experience. You may want to do takeout if you can, as this is counter service with limited seating, but the interior was clean and aesthetically appealing if you do decide to dine in. Staff were friendly and helpful too. They represent Detroit, and if you didn't know about Michigan's pride in seafood, you'll get a taste of it here. I recommend the fried cod! read more

I was honestly quite surprised that a seafood restaurant was open at 10am. I wasn't expecting much when I arrived at 10:15am on a Saturday morning, but I was surprised to see a few customers already seated and eating brunch/lunch. I have never been to a "fast-food" seafood restaurant before, so I asked the cashier what the top dishes were. She gave me 3 options to choose from, and I decided to go with the catfish plate that comes with 1 side and a few hushpuppies. For my side option, I opted for the mac and cheese since I wanted something carb-heavy to balance out the fried fish. The fish was full of flavor - the outside had a nice crispy texture and the inside was extremely tender. The seasoning was superb and wasn't salty at all. I didn't feel like I had to chug 3 cups of water while eating my meal, which is always considered a win in my book. The mac and cheese had a wonderful, deep cheesy flavor. The hushpuppies had a nice crust and warm, soft dough on the inside. The cashier also came up to me before I started eating and offered ketchup, tartar sauce, and cocktail sauce. Saw the high stars but avoided this place due to mostly fried food. Well, I'm glad we stopped in. First this place is very clean!!!! The gal at the register has a great routine in taking care of the place and customers. 2 Cod Fish pieces Mac & Cheese I didn't care for it but my husband liked it. 2 Cod Fish Pieces Fried Okra these were the best I have ever had. Wowzers Hush puppies- hubby really likes them. The fish is excellent. Not greasy, with a crispy outside batter and tender cod inside. I do not like the seasoning on the bottom of plate some salt mixture so next time I will remove. Another unexpected notable is the place does NOT smell or feel greasy. A+ The thing that through me off was the music . Oh it is lovely but would expect that type in a 5 restaurant with tablecloth's and 8 piece place settings. 6/26/21: We're visiting the area & I researched good seafood places. This is where I found The Captain's Table. I read the reviews & was hopeful that we'd like the food. I mean, who doesn't like FRIED FOOD?? Anyway, we ordered chicken strips, hush puppies, jumbo shrimp/fried cod/fries, fried corn, and Wingettes. We waiting quite awhile for our food, so I'm confused as to why my jumbo shrimp and fries were soggy from just a short walk to the car. The shrimp batter was flavorful, but I had to trash all the fries. The wingettes had a weird aftertaste to them, so I could only eat 1. Another waste of money. The cod was good after I sprinkled a bit of salt on it. The hushpuppies were tasteless. My son ended up dipping them in ranch. The chicken strips were good & a nice size. The fried corn was a NO GO. It had no taste outside of that of sopping grease. Even after I sprinkled salt on it, I couldn't eat it. We ordered lemonades too, and it had an aftertaste as well. I probably should've stuck with Coke products. Anyway, I would give them another chance & order something different next time. I definitely would like to update this review. This is my number one restaurant for delivery. Price is right and they aren't slow. I'm about 15 minutes from this location and when I get my food, it is piping hot! It is always packaged well. They have some really good fried large pieces of fish. And they do not skimp on the portions. It is not greasy, which is big for me. I've tried their flounder, catfish and whiting. They have been consistent each time. Their okra is breaded well and taste so good. My daughter loves their tea. Their slaw is good, wish I could get a little more with the large plate. Hush puppies are tasty too. I'm going to be a loyal customer. It comes with Buffalo and tartar sauce. I need to cut this review short, because I'm making myself hungry again. read more

Was craving fish so I decided to visit Captain's Table. I would see it pop up on one of my delivery apps but I had never heard of it before. I was leaving Food Lion and to my surprise there it was! It was right around 8pm so I ordered takeout for my husband and myself. Upon entering the restaurant I was pleasantly surprised at how clean it was. I mean damn, those floors shine brighter then in my house! There is also a hand sanitizer station right at the door. There was a very nice gal up front and she was very patient with my questions. I placed my order and sat down to wait. There was a group dining in and once they exited the restaurant she immediately cleaned and sanitized the table. It took approximately 10 minutes for my order to be ready. I ordered 2 small whiting platters with double hushpuppies, fried okra for me and fries for my husband. Everything was pretty tasty. My husband did mention his fries were not crispy enough. The okra was fried perfectly, I would add a little seasoning to the batter to add more flavor. They gave us 3 pretty big pieces of fish which was fried perfectly as well. Next time I will request extra seasoning on my fish. Overall this was a great experience. I forgot to take pictures of the food. After I drove all the way home smelling the food, pictures didn't come to mind until after I was finished eating. They offered Strawberry , Melon and Tropical Lemonade plus standard soft drinks . My son had the Chicken Tenders and they were big and great quality . My boyfriend loves seafood specifically fish and we had been looking for a place in the area that did a fried catfish or fish and chips which after checking out my local Yelp reviews, I stumbled upon this spot so we had to check it out! Located right off market/spring garden in the food lion shopping center - it was easy to get to and find and had its own parking! When you walk in, you're immediately impressed with how incredibly clean and pristine the place looks! The floors were literally sparkling! So that was an A+ in my book! They had several tables folks could sit at and eat in but not too big of a place and was counter service. Their menu had a wealth of options from fried fish (several types), shrimp, oysters, wings, chicken tenders AND catfish nuggets! Plus plenty of sides, salads and various sauces. We went in and ordered takeout which didn't take but 15 or so minutes after ordering. And the young lady was extremely friendly and helpful with our questions regarding the menu/combo options. We ordered the large catfish basket with MacNcheese and fried corn, slaw for him and I got the 3 pc tender combo with fried okra and hush puppies with BBQ sauce. Everything tasted so good!! The breading for both the catfish and chicken tenders weren't too heavy and had a nice spice/seasoning in it. The catfish was crispier with the normal fish batter and I'm not a seafood person but even I could eat the catfish! My chicken tenders though were probably some of the best fresh fried tenders I've had in the triad! The fried corn was cool to try something different and was tasty but again not over battered! My fried okra was perfectly fried and the MacNcheese wasn't anything to write home about (we probably wouldn't order again - tasted more like out of the box) and hush puppies were a little dry but dipped in some sauce, all good. Cole slaw was good and a little sweet flavor (reminds me of KFC which isn't a bad thing because I love their slaw haha)! Service was great; Lesly was a big help getting me straightened away since it was my first time here. I'll break it down by item: Cod: perfectly cooked and well-seasoned. Tartar sauce not needed. Cole Slaw: Creamy and tasty. Small portion, though. Hush puppies: Decent; perhaps a tad overcooked. French fries: Hand cut, but could have been a bit crispier, and a little more seasoning. Made a Saturday afternoon lunch run to The Captains Table as I had passed the location many times but never stopped by. The location was super clean and the staff was so nice during our visit. I went with a pick two combo and opted for the Cod and Chicken tenders with Mac and cheese, and then a side order of hush puppies as well. To pair with the meal, they have some delicious lemonades. To start with the meal, the Mac and cheese was great, I had seen may reviews that it was good and as a self proclaimed Mac and cheese connoisseur it fit the bill. The Hushpuppies were great as well, a good crunch on the exterior but light and fluffy in the middle. The cod was good as long as it was eaten while it was hot and just served, after a few minutes of cooling down, it unfortunately had a sort of rubbery texture. The chicken tenders were seasoned great and tasted pretty good, were a little tough, but manageable. My girlfriend got the popcorn shrimp as well, and again was good while it was hot, but once things cooled down a little bit, had a slightly rubbery texture and weird aftertaste. All in all we will be back to give a few other things a try, but still on the lookout for our go-to seafood restaurant. read more

I love me some fried seafood, that's a given. This place has been on my radar for a while now and I finally convinced a dieting friend to meet me for lunch. Her diet was BUSTED but she loved it. I have to start by saying it was a bit pricy but the food was freshly prepared and very good. It's a small space but bright and clean. Counter service was friendly and helpful. Food came out quickly considering it was cooked to order. Let me be clear, there is no diet food on their menu but my "dieting" friend had no problem ordering and devouring her catfish Sammy and fries! I went with the pick two platter, batter fried cod and jumbo shrimp, both piping hot, crispy and well seasoned. I had fried corn (on the cob) for the first time in my life and it was amazing. Crispy outside kernels that oozed butter when you took a bite. Replicate at home? I think so. I really love fried seafood and they do it well here. I'll be back and suggest you give them a try. With the interesting furnishings and cool jazz playing in the background, we were excited to taste the "Detroit way" of eating seafood. We split a large cod dinner (includes hush puppies and coleslaw) and a large (4 piece) fried corn on the cob; ~$20, tax included. If you like butter, this is your place! The fish was excellent, albeit a little heavy on the batter for me. The hush puppies are some of the best we've ever tasted, as well as the coleslaw. This place is new and we went in to try it because we like try an array of things in the city. They have a great selection of proteins and also a pretty decent list of sides. Since we were new customers, the front of house employee gave us whole chicken legs to try with their great list of sauces to give us a taste. The food is good and I think that the customer service is probably what pushed it to be a 5 star rating. We dined in and the employee (not sure of his name, he has dark hair and has it tied up) who was working was an A+ and on point with his customer service. As we sat eating, he really was on top of it. He knew about all of their selections, was personable, charismatic and it was nice to see people who care about the food they serve. There was also a woman who came in and they offered her a piece of chicken with the sauces and the chef in the back of the house even waited to see her reaction. Really shows that they care.
