The views at the rooftop hotel are terrific. The DTLA buildings, city's topography, the hotel's rooftop decor, setting, and pool beautifully come together. The cool breeze made this early evening in June delightful. The ambiance and scene is great for photos. I enjoyed the burrata and Calabrian personal pizza. The pizza was tangy, slightly sweet, and overall delicious. The pizza included fresh basil, tomato Ragu, burrata, and spiced honey. The table service is pretty good. A glass of red wine and the pizza was just perfect for a meal . I would like to return here to absorb the DTLA scenery and enjoy a drink/snack/light meal.
You come here for the view and the vibes, food and drink comes next. Food is great, not exquisite. Worth visiting at least once, the atmosphere is very nice and chic! We walked-in on a weekday brunch but def recommend making a reservation to make sure things are smooth. FOOD Look, a lot of hotels gave up on their food (especially for the ones who know their place is aesthetic). Cara Cara didn't give up on their food taste and quality, it's a vibey brunch spot for sure. I love the wide variety of selections on the menu, there are plenty of options. Short Rib Barbacoa Tacos (4/5): Decent, quite yummy. Comes with 2 tacos originally. I add extra 3rd one as server were asking, thought I may as well add it. Meat is quite tender and soft, not bad, would have asked for hot sauce to make it better. Porcini-Rubbed Steak (4.2/5): Not bad! Had it in medium rare, quite tender (didn't expect it to be tender as most hotel over cook their steaks). Comes with chimichurri sauce, nice. SERVICE Queenie is the best!! She is friendly, attentive and knows around the menu. Delivers up to standard hospitality, no pretentious attitude from receptionist either- nice! I hope they maintain their service quality. AMBIENCE I personally prefer the view in here over the Perch rooftop, it's not as spacious as Perch's rooftop, but the interior and decor are better- in my opinion. Curious to come back at night time for a cocktail or two with the view in DTLA! OVERALL I give this place a 5 star not because it's just a very nice place to sit down nicely- have a brunch or some drinks and admire the view. Both of the brunch spots in Beverly Hills Hotel are gonna cost 2x what you pay in here and you still get no city view, and also food quality and service sucks there. Food here is not disappointing at all, it's definitely not one of those "food is disgusting, views are all they got"-kinda place. Their food is delicious, we didn't hesitate to clear up our plates. Worth visiting at least once, if you don't like the food, get a picture and you will still be happy! Definitely coming back to check out the views at night over a cocktail or dinner.
We came here for my sister's sweet 16, and the location was beautiful! The rooftop seating made our evening unforgettable, and the service was on point! The servers were kind to accommodate an additional party at the last minute. They also rearranged some of the heating fixtures to keep us warm. Much appreciated! The food was pretty good. Between a burger plate, meat tacos, shrimp tacos, and ceviche, we definitely were full! I'd like to add that the ambiance is very social and lively, making it the perfect venue for a group gathering or a catch-up with a girlfriend. There is no free parking, so plan for that. We had a great time and I definitely foresee myself returning. Thanks for the birthday accommodations as well! You definitely made her big day special!
This place was perfect location to dine before walking to the crypto arena before a laker game! Walking distance to the arena, food was incredibly good. It's beautifully designed and the ambience is romantic. Our servers were great and even took a photo of us by the fire pit. Food was delicious and so were the drinks. Their restrooms are clean and overall excellent service. Make reservations to be sure you're properly seated.
Cara Cara, located on the rooftop of the LA Proper Hotel in Downtown Los Angeles, offers hands down one of the best views of DTLA. Between the stunning skyline backdrop, great service, and excellent food, it's a spot that delivers a memorable dining experience. We started with the cheese and charcuterie board to share. While it was enjoyable, I wish they offered a better cheese selection. The board could definitely benefit from a sharp cheese to round out the flavors. For my entrée, I had the porcini-rubbed steak, which was cooked to perfection. Tender, flavorful, and exactly as ordered. We also tried the spicy vodka pizza, which was decent but not particularly memorable compared to the other dishes. The cocktails were a standout. I especially enjoyed the chili cucumber gimlet and the reposado-based cocktail. Both were well-balanced, refreshing, and expertly crafted. One thing I really appreciated was their special Pride Month cocktail selection. A portion of the proceeds benefited a nonprofit organization supporting LGBTQ+ youth programs throughout Los Angeles, which made the experience feel even more meaningful. Overall, Cara Cara is a place I'll definitely be returning to. Not only for the cocktails and food, but especially for the incredible rooftop views and welcoming atmosphere.
This place has such beautiful views and even better drinks. Parking can be tricky so I would recommend doing valet. I got the ube drink and it's deliciously sweet as well as strong! For the table, we got the calamari and ceviche. Calamari was good, pretty average. The ceviche tastes amazing but i just wish there was more of it as the portion was pretty small. This place connects to the pool/jacuzzi of the hotel which is pretty neat. I also got the steak as my main entree, i would recommend upgrading it with the shrimp! The service was a bit slow but everyone was really nice! I would come back and try their lamb chops! 10/10 views.
I visited Cara Cara on a Thursday night in downtown Los Angeles, and it was a truly unforgettable experience. Recommended by one of my clients, Cara Cara sits atop a rooftop, offering stunning 360-degree views of the city. The interior and exterior design are both beautiful--elegant, modern, and perfectly curated. From the moment I arrived, I was greeted warmly by the staff, and the service was impeccable all night. The bartenders crafted an excellent cocktail, and the waitress was attentive and friendly. We started with an octopus appetizer that was simply divine--tender, flavorful, and beautifully presented. Although I didn't get too deep into the menu, every bite we had was exceptional. If you're looking for a special night out with incredible views and top-tier service, Cara Cara is a must-visit.
I've given a week and a half to let my thought settle before this review. I'm torn as my only negative is our server. No rooftop view or wonderful food can change the way you are made to feel. I knew it wasn't just us when a nearby table made a comment "good luck" when trying to get our server, Tony, to come back to finish placing our order and another table with a similar comment when we needed a pen from our server who seemingly avoided for 15+ min after our check was tossed on our table with no thanks or any words. Sad, because the food here.. 5 STARS!!! Hands down some of the best food! Other staff also... 5 STARS!! So welcoming and friendly like the entire hotel staff being guests at the hotel. Our server Tony was 2 stars as he started off ok but ran away mid order thinking it was the loud music and did get drinks delivered very quickly. When he returned with drinks my son was able to finish his menu order that was missed. Tony did explain the small kitchen and items would arrive at different times.. all good and things came out quicker and in sync more than expected. Allergies were noted and accommodated so that was appreciated. After food was delivered and we had time to enjoy our meal, the manager (I presume) was welcoming and interested in asking how we enjoyed our meal. It was all wonderful and told him so.. once he left however, it was as though we didn't exist or were of little importance. Tony came back and tossed the check on the table and turned away quickly, never stopping to see if we actually needed anything else. Had to get his attention to order dessert. My son ordered the strawberry cheesecake bar and I ordered an espresso martini.. this wasn't on the menu and I would NOT recommend an espresso martini. One of my favorite drinks I've had from MANY places. This one was all VERY strong espresso. It looked like a martini but there was NO sweetness of vanilla, chocolate or any other sweet flavor. There was no smooth finish of vodka... literally very harsh espresso with nothing else. I put it to the side hoping our server would come back. My son finished his dessert entirely and we waited... and waited. My drink sat full on the side of the table and Tony tossed our check down without question and turned to run away. I had to nearly chase after him to get his attention when I explained my drink was not good and just wanted it removed from my bill. He asked if I wanted them to remake it and I said no, I wasn't even sure it was the drink I ordered. He did have it removed but literally came back with the check and tossed it on the table and ran away quickly again without a pen so we couldn't sign to our room and leave. It dragged painfully on and on ruining what could have been an amazing experience. My son had to finally get up and ask for a pen which Tony gave him with no words and seemed annoyed. So odd and lacking in hospitality. Is this normal at an upscale restaurant to not care if your customers are satisfied? Coming from the Bay Area and dining at other upscale restaurants I just haven't ever felt "less than" like I did here. I sill left 20% but Tony, I am a 30-50% tipper and you judged us wrong. We may not have been in sequins and tux's after coming off an 8 hour drive and in comfort clothes, but deserved better. Serving is a demanding job, and I appreciate hardworking hospitality professionals as I was once one in my younger years. Customer interactions significantly impact a guest's experience and a server that is dismissive or unfriendly does not reflect the level of service I would expect from a business with such a great atmosphere. Food: -Cara Cara chopped salad - honestly best salad I've had anywhere hands down.. flavor, crunch, zest -Golden Hour Burger for son commented on how juicy and flavorful it was even cooked Med-well -Truffle Mac n cheese was the item that didn't get ordered as Tony ran away too quickly, but was ok. Was drier than expected and not as creamy and cheesy as expected. -Ragu tomato pizza had a most light and flavorful crust, my son loved it more than I did so he finished it as the tomato sauce was a bit much for me and I was more than happy to keep to my chopped salad

The patio with panoramic view of DTLA, cozy with fire pits and many plants and trees. For meals, we had avocado bruchetta ($19), grilled octopus ($32), brussel sprouts salad with grilled shrimp ($19 + $14 grilled shrimp), Cobb salad with grilled shrimps ($22+ $14 grilled shrimps), fish taco ($22), Scottish salmon ($22) and grilled branzino ($58). The presentation is colorful and farm-to- table style. The menu is small but a good presentation of Californian cuisine. We are full but not stuffy! We also had nonalcoholic drinks, passion fire and zesty verde ($14 each), very yummy and has nice kick from jalapeno salt! I would definitely recommend to bring date or visiting guests here for sunset view!
Really nice rooftop and I came here with my family. It was our first time here the service was also really good. We didn't really like how our meat was cooked for the steak it was a little burnt but they were kind and they immediately changed it so I would highly recommend this place and especially their Pistachio Crusted Salmon it was so good!!

Great food (though small portions), trendy rooftop vibes, friendly service, but expensive. Also, if you bring balloons you can't bring them up to the rooftop per hotel policy (makes sense) but you can actually check it in at the front desk if you accidentally bring anything you are not supposed to bring. We came here for my cousin's birthday and it was a great view/experience. For 4 girls, we ordered 5 dishes (3 appetizers and 2 entrees) along with a cocktail each. All the dishes were good but the only one I was a huge fan of was the fried chicken. I really wish it was bigger! Drinks wise, we got several different ones to try. The gin cocktail on their menu was probably the best of all the ones we had. It was also nice that they had a free birthday dessert... overall, it was a very tasty meal though I'd probably only come back another time if it was another celebration. This place is gorgeous. Hands down one of the best spots you can bring a first date, visitors or even angelenos alike for a intimate experience. The view makes up for the cocktails which, although ingenious, were the reason for the rating. Three rum daiquiri $20 had many pieces of ice that made the mouthfeel less enjoyable. Wonder if it should've been strained. The passion fruit caipirinha was good but perhaps too smoky of an aftertaste for me. This goes for $23. Let me say though that the MUSSELS PORTUGUESA $26 were insanely delicious. So fresh, so perfectly cooked, the bread also freshly toasted to perfection. It was recommended by them and I couldn't agree more. No sauce went un-soaked by the extra bread we asked for. Very good service, friendly and inviting. Absolute gorgeous setting. I'm always available for a great view, great service, great food, great ambiance and a great beverage Cara Cara is located on the penthouse of the Prosper Hotel in downtown Los Angeles. There are a few indoor seats and about 6 seats at the bar. The rest is patio seating. IMHO the patio is where you want to be. The city skyline view is nice and the casual yet sassy and sophisticated ambiance is great on the patio! My travel partner was intrigued and impressed with the specialty whiskeys, rums and tequila the Cara Cara bar poured. Cara Cara has been on my list for rooftop dining in a while and finally got to check it out. I didn't expect much, as we only come for a gorgeous view but it really exceeded my expectations. The minutes we walked in we were greeted and take to the elevator, I love the design of this place. Cara Cara located inside the Proper Hotel in DTLA, within minutes the wooden interior elevator took us to a beautiful rooftop and let me tell you the view was blowing my mind, it was gorgeous. I ordered a grilled Branzino fish and my friend ordered the hanger steak, both dishes were cook perfectly, specially the fish, it was delicious and I forgot to take photo. On Sunday they have live DJ in the evening, the service was top notch, five star all the way, total bills come about $150 including food and drinks for two people but it was worth it. Such a wonderful place for a date on a rooftop or catching up with friends. Went here for a day lunch with my work. Order tons of appetizers and I really enjoyed almost everything. Loved the charcuterie board the most and the steak frites was cooked to perfection. The ceviche was good because it was chunky and comes with some fresh avocado. I also loved the moose dessert as it has perfect mixture of flavors. They have a large drinks menu and everyone seemed to enjoy themselves. I also love that they have outside heaters and the view was just gorgeous as you look out to downtown LA. Parking next door is $8, but we ubered, so not sure if the resort has parking. Cara Cara has great views of DTLA but that was about it. Service was mixed - the hostess who seated us was rude but our waitress was friendly. And sadly the food didn't make up for it. Our food and cocktails were average and nothing special. We really weren't blown away by anything we ordered, which is why the food and drinks felt overpriced for how underwhelming it all was. Vibes are high here! Imagine a beautiful rooftop with a pool and good food, fast service that's Cara Cara. You've a good view, an aesthetic 2 level patio, fire pit and pool. For Sunday lunch we got muhammara and beet hummus, Cobb salad, shrimp tacos and grilled branzino. Our top 2 was the muhammara and the branzino. The coconut rice was beyond! It's a must. It's on the rooftop of the Proper hotel, and it's pretty small with limited tables + bar seating. Valet is $15, or you can park next door in a lot for $8. We only grabbed a drink at the bar because it was too cold to sit outside, and although they have heaters it's only 2 indoor tables on the rooftop. Been to Cara Cara a few times, but this review is specifically for their NYE occasion. There was a set menu for this day and each meal was delicious. We started out with chips & caviar which definitely did not disappoint and we as a good snack to get things started. From there, we were served squash and finished the night off with beef tenderloin. I definitely thought it was cool that they had a mezcal based old fashioned and would for sure recommend ordering one. Ok this rooftop is amazingggg. It's on the top of the Downtown Proper Hotel! I highly suggest staying here even for one night which is what we did to celebrate my partners birthday and it definitely helps you get a table here. I love that the rooftop is intimate - it's not overly crowded and has an overall nice feel. The view is immaculate, you get suuuch a nice view of the city! The service was pretty good, not a lot of complaints there. I didn't feel like they were as attentive as they could've been but everything did come out promptly which was appreciated. Our drinks were SUPER tasty - they are veryyyyy pricy. It's giving LA prices but I did appreciate that the alcohol seemed high quality because after 2 you're definitely feeling it. Food: Piri Piri chicken: my partner loooooved this dish. Perfect little chicken bites with the creamy green sauce. It had a nice amount of kick to it. Seafood ceviche: really refreshing and light to balance out the heavier slightly greasy chicken! I loved the tostadas it came with - they were very corn forward which gave everything a nice added flavor. I loved the sauce on the bottom as well. S'mores cake: OMG I LOVED THIS. Everything about it. It was sweet but not too overpowering. I loved the graham cracker crust. The star is the praline coffee sauce that they put on the plate. I would've asked for extra of that sauce if I knew how mmm mmm good it was. 2 drinks, 2 appetizers and 1 dessert came out to about $150 with tip so definitely come here if you don't mind spending and want a beautiful view with some strong drinks!! My family, both immediate and extended cousins and aunts, kept a few high-rise condos in downtown LA for more than 20 years. I watched downtown go from ghetto ghost town, to hipster hotspot, to its current form of an archipelago of linked metropolis islands. It's not one big city, but a group of different city islands. Think cleaner and shinier Bladerunner. Anywho, I digress.... I had a lunch meeting at Cara Cara today, a recommendation by an out-of-town entrepreneur from Chicago. I thought I'd humor him and let him pick a place in MY city. I was surprised when he mentioned a hotel and restaurant I was not at all familiar with. "There's a Proper hotel in DTLA?" Let's just say this. I've been to practically every rooftop establishment this city has to offer, from Santa Monica, to Beverly Hills, to WeHo, and yes, all the other DTLA offerings. I never thought I'd be surprised. Cara Cara is 100% staycation vibes. I'll put it this way. I LEFT downtown to move to Santa Monica. 8 years later, I find myself actively looking to spend a couple days here with my family..... to get away from the beach. The lunch menu is excellent. I had the heirloom tomato salad, and Piri Piri fried chicken (thumbs up on both, though I think the salad could have used at least another teaspoon of burrata). The service was fantastic, which included a visit from the F&B Director, Dennis, who brought a gentle throwback to the hotel service we only saw on the silver screen, like the GM in 'Pretty Woman' with Juila Roberts. The rooftop pool, extended from the dining patio, has a wonderful boutique esthetic, and it took every house of disciplined resistance to avoid dipping my feet into the water. I'll definitely be back. I was told that the nights are even better. We shall see! read more

Came here for my birthday last night for the first time and it was a wonderful. The hotel welcomes you with a warm entrance and this penthouse restaurant/bar itself is very cozy and chill with a fantastic view of Downtown all around. We tried their Dragones Old Fashioned cocktail and Mango Cider beer, the cocktail was boozy and citrusy and the cider was pleasant, both fantastic as we enjoyed with a scenic view on their porch seating where you can relax while waiting for your table. We went with their "Dine LA Dinner" option and got both appetizers; the White Trumpet Mushroom Focaccia (a pizza like dish with mushrooms, cheese and delicious sauce) and the Two Cheeses + Charred Dates (a charcuterie board with bread, goat and brie (I think) cheese, roasted orange peel and dates with marmalade and mixed nuts. Very pleasant. As well as the entrees: the Chipotle Cauliflower Tacos + Fried Brussels Sprouts and Hanger Steak + Herbed Fries. The steak was so tender and the fries so crispy, the Brussels Sprouts were to DIE for! So crispy and the sauce they come with just complements them so well.. And both deserts. The Pink Lady Spiced Cake was my personal favorite if you love apples and caramel. Cory was very attentive and courteous, coming to check in on us often as well as helpful and insightful of explaining the menu options to us. Nope. It's a full service restaurant in a hotel. Its also a cool rooftop. Automated parking next lot or valet in front.

It's pretty average for rooftop dining/drinking, though it also depends on how busy the restaurant is
