Well, the next day I was informed that the Jeep had been sold earlier that day! A miscommunication between staff I was told..."So sorry". Why was it even made available to sell when it should have been in repair and held for me? Not good business!! This review is for their buying your car program solely. So I was looking to sell my 2012 chevy cruise that had about 75,000 miles. I got $7000 for it. They inspected it and gave me the offer of $7,000 which was about a 1000 of what kelly blue book said. But it was a full cash offer which is better then getting installments from a private party. Much more convenient. And that offer is guaranteed for 7 days so there wasen't pressure to make a rash decision right there and then. Actually when we were looking to see how we could get an offer on the car and walking around aimlessly in the lot a sales lady on her way home actually came to help us out. That was really nice of her to help us out even though she didn't have to. Last name was king I believe. So we brought the car in several days later. Filled out the appropriate paperwork and was out in about 30 min with the check in hand to deposit to the bank. It was a really easy process. Took my wifes 2011 toyota camry in for an appraisal, took over an hour. It only has 90,000 miles on it and ran perfect. . Jeffrey said it would take about 45 minutes for an appraisal. After an hour later,they offered us $4000.00 for it saying they would just put in at an auction. If that was the case why didn't tell us that first hand. Wife drove the car home and said it almost died on her. Mind you we never had problems with the car before. Only issue we had was tire pressure light. Now we had traction control light on and Check engine light on. I drove it this morning and it died on me. Checked to see what was wrong, found the air inlet intake disconnected causing the car to die. This needs a pair of pliers to undo the clamp holding it in place. I went back to Carmax and explained what happened. The mechanic stated all they do to appraise is drive the car around and take pictures of the motor. I asked you don't do diagnostics on it? He says, oh yes we do. There were no error codes when we checked. Maybe who worked on the car last left it loose. I told him, " I'm the only one who works on this car and i never took that off! BAD EXPERIENCE! So, I bought a 2018 Ford F-150 with 40k miles on it about 6 weeks ago, can't complain about the buying process, it was in and out, easy and painless. HOWEVER, IF YOU HAVE ISSUES YOU ARE ON YOUR OWN! I experienced major issues with the truck since day 1. I took it back to Carmax few days later, they took the truck to Ford and returned it after about 2 weeks with the same transmission issues and another noise that they say is nothing abnormal (never offered a loaner at this point by the way). Few days after I decided that it has to be taken care off but services adviser (Reyna) never called me back after I left a message and sent an email. Since I don't have time for these run arounds I took the truck straight to a Ford dealership, after 3 days of diagnoses they told me that they need to OVERHAUL the transmission (at 40k miles) and it is going to take at least 4 weeks. At this point I wanted to involve Carmax so they can help with the situation, in my case this truck was meant to be a work truck, lucky me I haven't got rid of my old. Called and talked to several people, ended up talking to the Service Manager (JR) and all he had to offer me was MAYBE extending the return window and wave the $199 I paid for a transfer fee. He promised to call back the next day after he talked to his crew to see how they can help but never did. The following week I called back and he told me the same thing. It's been over a week and he never called back and I was never given an official answer. I finally got a loaner from FORD, about 5 weeks after my purchase. So I ended up buying a 35k truck that is going to be in the shop for over 8 weeks since day one, meanwhile I am paying the payments, double insurance, and I lost potential buyers for my old truck. and they DON'T CARE! The only reason I went with Carmax was for their "quality vehicles and the peace of mind" doesn't seem like I got any, I don't see how it's different than buying from a random dude on Craigslist. Experienced the worst service last night and would not recommend this place to anyone at all. Please do not go here, they do not understand the value of their customers. If anything, go to another CarMax location. I arrived at around 12pm in the afternoon on a Sunday to get my vehicle appraised to sell it and they said they had about a 2-hr wait and that they have 15 people ahead of me so I said, okay maybe I'll schedule an appt online so that I can come back and not have to wait so long. A gentleman advised me to do that online or to come back and be there first thing when they open. So I scheduled an appt online and was able to make it for 5:30pm that same day. I arrived at my scheduled time and they proceeded to tell me that the appraisal process is taking 1hr and 15mins.. so I said, okay cool, at least it's not going to take that long for them to actually call me. 10mins goes by and they call me and ask about my vehicle and ask for the keys so that they can inspect it and then said that they would call me when they're finished. They called me about an hour later and said that they have an offer and to come back to the counter so I did. The nice gentleman Spencer gave me my offer and told me to take it to the business office if I would like to proceed selling my car so I did. I get to the business office and a lady approaches me (I wish I would have got her name) and says "yeah? Can I help you?" In a real snobby voice. I said, yes ma'am, I was asked to bring this paper over here. And she responded with "we're closed!" I looked at her in shock and said "really? But I've been here over an hour waiting for your process, you mean you can't help me?". They said the whole process was 1.25 hrs and I waited the whole time for her to tell me they couldn't help me because they were closed? Like wtf? What kind of business is this? Normally when you go some place and you check in you're locked in and a business will normally help you even if they're closed. Let's just say I was buying a car from them last night and the time rolled over 7pm (their closing time), you think they would have told me, sorry ma'am, we're closed.. we don't want your money, come back tomorrow if you want to finish buying your car" uh no! That's just not how you run a business. I am in the customer service industry and I would NEVER treat my customers this way. We close at 5pm and if my customer comes in at 4:45 and for some reason is here past 5, I will never tell them to leave. Obviously I wasn't there to hangout, I was there to do business and got kicked to the curb. The girl at the business office does NOT deserve to work there unless this is how you train your employees to treat people. It's completely wrong. I wouldn't be so pissed if you didn't have me waiting an hour and 40 mins to inspect my car and then tell me to come back another day if I want to finish the offer. Don't you understand that some people don't have all that time? I'm a single mom of 2 young kids, I don't have all the time to hangout at CarMax and for them to tell me to keep coming back. It's complete bullshit. If I could turn this business in I will. I only leave bad feedback when I get this bad of service. No one deserves this at all. Update on this review: the following day when I went back, they still couldn't help me because they needed to contact the bank that I was financing through, however, this second trip could have been avoided if that snobby girl would have just been nice and told me that "hey we're closed but to make the process smoother when you come in next time, you need to contact your bank and do this and that." The next two days that I went here, that girl ignored me when I approached the counter and made sure to not help me, instead she waited for another person to be available to help me. My family has purchased MANY cars from Carmax. About a month ago I found a Ford Edge online at this location and drove a long way to go test drive it. I wrote a check for about $26,000, and found out during the process that the remote for the hatchback wasn't working and the hatchback won't close properly. I thought they were going to look at it then but the salesperson told me at the end of the process that I could just take it in to any Carmax and they would fix it. So now I'm stuck trying to figure out how I'm going to drop it off at the closest Carmax (in Burbank which is 30 miles from my house), either work or back home to Santa Clarita, and then back over there to pick it up. They said they can shuttle me ONE WAY if I"m within 10 miles. Seems like they would be more help since it was an existing issue when I bought it. Not great customer service. read more

The business office employees don't bother to prepare forms in advance or double check forms as you sign to make sure they are properly completed. They will call you back for signatures they should have obtained the first time around. I was promised communication throughout the process and never received any phone calls with updates. I was left a voicemail saying I could make an appointment to complete forms that were missed. When I called back to make the appointment, they said they don't take appointments for that. Great communication with the texting and phone calls too. He was not pushy at all, and just had a very positive demeanor about him. The numbers were fine, but pulling the car fax report on my own. I found the car did have damage reported. Doesn't reflect an accident or airbags were deployed which is good. Unfortunately for the price and I was prepared to pay cash. It just didn't sit well with me so declined proceeding with the vehicle. I was so close too. Worst case is! I have purchased two cars, traded in two, and just sold another. I am giving one star because of the problem I have had with the transfer of title on cars I have either traded in or sold. If you sell a car, keep your sales contract and notice of transfer, you will need it. I just sold in July a car to Carmax, on October 10th this car went through the toll roads and incurred a toll violation. The toll roads sent me a letter stating the DMV shows me as the owner. This happen to me in 2016 and 2018 and when I traded cars in, they racked up multiple toll violations months after I had sold them to Carmax, in addition, 6 months later one was in a car accident in Utah and an insurance agency was relentlessly contacted me about the accident, they were not accepting copies of my sale contract and Notice of transfer. I am summarizing, based on DMV website info, that for the car to be transferred, the buyer needs to pay fees. I believe Carmax is putting off paying the fees to the DMV, therefore the DMV keeps the car in my name. It is a hassle beyond belief and I truly believe this is their business practice that leads to a hassle for customers. I will not do business with Carmax again. read more

(The CarMax Saga! A Must Read!) I purchased a 2018 Ford Mustang GT Premium from Carmax of Ontario in August of 2021. Upon receiving the vehicle everything seemed fine. Fast forward to November 2021 , the tags were not paid and the temp tag was expired so I had to go physically to the business office to have them pay the tags as they did not want to assist me further on the phone. After the issues I had, I went to appraise the vehicle and was then told the vehicle had a branded title on the CarFax. Not Autocheck, which only is used by CARMAX. When going back to the business office, they told me the issue was corrected on there end and they can not help me whatsoever as their system shows a correction but they have no issue with reappraising the car by the current value.. So I was told essentially I am screwed if I want to sell my car private party and they will gladly buy the car to screw someone else over with a AutoCheck. I decided to take a bit to try and figure out what I can do. December 2021: Now, in the middle of looking through all of my paperwork to try and correct this, I realized the inspection for my vehicle was falsified. I purchased the vehicle with 41,1xx Miles in August of 2021, but the inspection said the vehicle was appraised in Carmax of Oxnard in December 2020 with the 41,1xxx Mile stamp. I went to the business office once more and had to waste my time for 3 hours to speak to Sales manager Dayna who was able to partner with Service and get me an inspection. (If I could do a review just on service at this location they would get a good review. Carmax in General is Shady). My inspection was completed in January of 2022, and once again another issue was uncovered.. March 2022: True History Unfolds.. The vehicle's driver side paint was starting to haze and wrinkle. I spent a week arguing with a Sales Manager, Dahyna, and the car was scheduled to be looked at once again by service. (Please note, the car also had a small mechanical issue which the service department happily fixed.) My car was sent to a body shop in El Monte who took 1 week to ruin the car more by breaking seals, having overspray all over my tint, putting a hole in my tint, scratching my interior door panel, created excessive orange peel, and forgot to paint the inside of my quarter panel and my door. I called the body shop outraged, and they said they took no responsibility for anything done and I could not prove anything, afterwards I said said they are a disgrace of a business as they showed no integrity in their work. The daughter then screamed at me over the phone to not talk bad about her family business's name and hung up on me. They then said they would not take back the vehicle to fix their mistakes, but that decision was quickly changed after I let them know if they were not capable of fixing it, I have no issue with calling and submitting a legal report through BAR and filing an inspection... And magically the next day, the owner of the body shop called CarMax and asked them to bring the car so he can fix it and apologized for the bad work received .I then received the car the middle of April and I was already frustrated so I took a look at the major concerns and saw they were for the most part fixed. But when taking the car home, the vehicle had missing paint on the inside of the door still and my tint was ruined. The body shop said they would not take the vehicle back, so I had to take it to a body shop to get it fixed which I was later reimbursed for. End of April 2022: I requested and had all service records for my vehicle printed, which unveiled why my car has been through so much. In March of 2021, The vehicle was transferred to South Lake Jordan, Utah's location. Upon arrival it was taken by either an employee or manager to drive and they then blew the transmission at 39,8xx miles. Now, thinking it was a defective part, it indeed was not. I had decided to buy a newer car, and I knew that getting one a couple of years old would be a better financial decision for my situation. I also knew that I wanted a no-fuss, easy selling experience for my current vehicle. The online quote for my vehicle was super easy, and Carmax paid that exact amount when I went into the store at the Ontario location. I had found a car I had liked at the Oxnard location, and the shipping was so easy. It was even free from Oxnard to Ontario, which was fantastic. The car arrived in a few days, which was well before the estimated time. I was able to test drive the new vehicle earlier than expected. I did not experience anything that some of the more negative reviews experienced, so maybe it just depends on your salesman, but Eddie was fantastic. He offered to let me test drive the vehicle, and he also waited around for about twenty minutes while my boyfriend did an inspection of the car, which I thanked Eddie for because I'm sure it was boring for him, haha. I had started the purchase online, and I finished it in person when I went to Carmax (you can do it all online, to my knowledge, but I just wanted to make sure I was absolutely in love with the car). I absolutely loved the car, and Eddie at Ontario was fantastic in getting both the sale of my old car and the purchase of my new car going smoothly. I was in and out fairly quick, considering I hadn't completed the purchase online. The whole process was only a couple of hours, and the price I was paid for the old car as well as the price I paid for the purchase of the new car was exactly what the website indicated. It's just like their slogan says..."THIS is the way car buying should be". I felt no pressure to buy any add ons, but the Carmax extended warrantee is actually really good. I purchased the 100k miles one because I've had problems with two previous cars (not purchased from Carmax) with both engines and transmissions, so the peace of mind is absolutely worth the minimal extended warrantee cost for me. But again, I was not pressured to do anything, not with the sale of my old car or the purchase of the new one. I know this sounds like an ad, but I swear it's not. I'm a mid-30's elementary school teacher who just wanted a smooth transition into a newer vehicle for a fair price, and that's exactly the experience that I had. I've been recommending using Carmax to all of my friends and family, and I will absolutely go to Carmax for all of my future cars. This is the way to do it! I made an appointment two weeks ago for 3pm and waited until 4:30pm for my appraisal to be done. I wanted to sell my car the same day and they closed at 6pm but refused to take me. SELLING OUR VEHICLE WAS A BREEZE; TO CARVANA! Our needs dictated the need for another vehicle. But we wanted to move along a vehicle that still had loan balance. Our vehicle was in excellent condition so we knew it had value and we would be able to pay off the loan and receive at least a $2500 cash return. So our initial action was to physically take our vehicle to CarMax. We had been aware they purchase vehicles from individual owners. They assessed our vehicle and advised it was in excellent condition, a very well taken care of vehicle. Their offer to us was $11000. We recognized that offer to be very low. We knew our vehicle was worth a lot more than their offer. They explained their offer was fair, and their established evaluation system was tested. Well, we thanked them for their offer and didn't sell our vehicle to them. It was then we thought of Carvana. This company should have been our first thought. We remembered how professional they present themselves, and that their car sales and buying platform resembled CarMax but with more customer interest. Upon arriving home, we initiated a Carvana vehicle appraisal on-line. What a simple process. We answered the description questions, and immediately received a purchase offer. That offer was $13034. And they didn't even look at it, not even a photo. Now this offer was more in-line with what we were anticipating from a sale to a dealer. Being very happy with the offer, and not wanting to sell the vehicle privately, we accepted the offer on-line. We submitted the requested documents via the Carvana account we opened and received a set of convenient instructions to move forward with the sale. Upon receiving the actual loan payoff amount from our bank, Carvana coordinated the sale of our vehicle to them. We had a choice, they would pick it up at the house, or we could drive it to their dealership. We chose to have them pick it up at the house. We scheduled for a few days later. On the day of, a representative showed up, we signed all of the purchase and transfer documents, he took a couple of minutes to look at the vehicle, he took the vehicle for a short test drive, then he gave us our anticipated check for over $2600. The balance excluding the loan payoff which Carvana was paying off. We were certainly very happy. We had walked away with $2600 which was more than we anticipated. The process seemed to good to be true, but it was. Wow! What a straightforward and customer centered process this was! We could not have asked for better service. We certainly have high praises for Carvana! We encourage anyone wanting to sell their vehicle to sell it to Carvana. Forget CarMax. They undercut their customers significantly. We had sold an excellent condition vehicle to CarMax two years ago. They made a $5000 profit in three days from the sale of our vehicle, and left us with little cash from our sale to them. Guess we should have learned our lesson the first time. But habit kicked in when we wanted to sell this recent vehicle. So break any habit, or bias you have, and sell your vehicle to Carvana. You will end up much happier and you will not regret you did. read more

Visted this location and observed countless cosmetically subpar vehicles in their inventory. Countless cars with door dings, paint scratches and or dirty and discolored trim. First and last time considering buying from Carmax. Folk's; seriously. Pay a little more and get yourself a quality used vehicle elsewhere - preferably a certified one. Good Luck read more

So I bought a 2019 vehicle from Carmax July 21st 2022 I got into a fender bender on Aug 5th. I just now Nov 16 had my car in the shop getting repaired. The repair shop went to take to car to an alignment shop and my car would not start, they had to jump it.. then again to return it back to the repair shop. When I went to pick up my vehicle.the repair work was fantastic.. then they explained to me the issue with the battery. I contacted Car Max right away..I was told the battery is only 30 days after purchase.. then said to call the extended warranty people. I did...they told me the battery is not covered AT ALL. I called CarMax (Ontario CA location) again and spoke to a Manager named GABRIEL.. long story ..they do not test the battery before they put a car on the lot ..only if it has starting issues..they also are not going to do anything for me.. Moral of this story ...CARMAX DOES NOT STAND BEHIND THEIR VEHICLES...only 30 days. read more
