We came here because it had the most reviews in the area. It was a Saturday night and the restaurant was packed but we didn't have to wait too long. They have a very high turnover rate since the food comes quickly. The portions are huge and are easily shareable. We ordered the lamb gnocchi which was absolutely delicious even though I am not fond of gnocchi. We also had the crazy alfredo pasta which was also delicious but pretty greasy. Service was excellent, the servers were attentive and prompt. More importantly, the prices are decent mostly around $15-20 considering the restaurant's location and portion sizes. Love Carmelina's! A cute family styled Italian restaurant located in the North End. Perfect location with Mike's Pastries right across the street. We ordered the gnocchi, seared tuna appetizer, fried calamari, the Sunday Macaroni and the rolled prosciutto pasta. Was not disappointed with what we ordered! My only complaint is that the prosciutto pasta was a little salty but that's understandable given cured meats are typically on the saltier side. All of the waiters were great. I love how all of the waiters help out and you're not just assigned to one person to serve you. We made reservations for 12:15. Make sure you do too! Amazing experience, i loveee this place so much. I got the fried calamari and a Cesar salad and it was amazing. The BEST Italian meal I've ever had and I've been to Italy before haha! First of all make sure you reserve your table days in advance it was really hard to get a table at a time we wanted. Also if you can ask to sit by the window which may be wide open and is close enough to people watch but far enough away that you're not being disturbed. We ordered several apps and entrees and you honestly can't seem to go wrong with anything on the menu. We ordered the meatballs and eggplant to start both appetizers delicious and flavorful! Firstly.. the restaurant itself is quite small, thankfully they have outdoor seating as it helps with the long lines. We were seated promptly during our reservation time, menus are now on qr code. The ratings on this place are very overrated. Had the carpaccio and it was very ok (4/10). Then the seafood pasta. Again very sub par. They served it with angel hair pasta which was way too light to hold up. Very average dish. Food and drink also took a long time to arrive. I had a reservation to Carmelina's before I had plane tickets. A recommendation from a friend, she and her husband were included in the reservation too! With only 9 tables, the aroma when you open the door, is nothing short of absolute Italian deliciousness! We all ordered something different and shared! But I think I was the big winner with the rolled pasta filled with prosciutto, spinach and fontina cheese topped with a pink sauce and cheese! OMG! Even my Lyft driver was drooling when I described the dish to him. Pasta is homemade and made to order! They are very clear that they don't have dessert and suggest you go across the street to Mike's Pastry! Carmelina's is named after the owner's Mom, Carmela and his daughter, I'm guessing is Lina? I can't believe I've been to Carmelina's four times without writing a review!! This place is absolutely delicious and honestly my favorite in all of the north end. There is always a wait and I've only been able o get seated once when I didn't have a reservation. I suggest making a reservation well in advance because tables fill up real quick during the weekends. My favorite things on their menu is definitely their mushroom risotto and the meatballs. The risotto has a variety of mushroom and it has a beautiful truffle flavor. The meatballs are amazing ! Super well seasoned and flavored and the red sauce it comes in is so good! They are baked and have cheese on top and there's no other meatball that beats these. Other good dishes are their spicy sausage pasta as well as their mushroom rigatoni. The complimentary bread they serve is also good. Service is good with an overall friendly and patient staff. read more

Had the beef carpaccio, which was easily one of the best things we had in Boston... but our entrees were so incredibly mid to lower mid.. if not outright bad. Sunday macaroni was terrible, no flavor to the sauce and chewy, dry meat. The mushroom pasta was fine... the hello fresh version is better. My wife had to flag her down(3rd try) to order a Peach Bellini, they served her the Orange Bellini. Lacking to say the least in Customer Service overall. Ambiance was nice, open air feel, very tight/close quarters in restaurant if that matters to you(we didn't mind). This was in my list for our boston trip and i can report that This might be one of THE best Italian restaurant i have ever been to. This was in the mist of covid which most restaurant are operating at a -1 star level. We tried a lot of different things and our 2 picky eaters (kids) really enjoyed it. I came on a Monday night and waited a half hour for a table (estimated wait time was a full hour, but people dropped off the waitlist) and it was well worth it. We really enjoyed an impromptu visit here while on a biz trip to Boston. The combination of the small, intimate North End ambience combined with really pleasant service and great food made for a truly enjoyable night out. A few standouts included the Tuna Arrabbiata appetizer - which was amazing ! I could have made a full dinner out of that. The Veal Saltimbocca was also exceptional. No question - I will return for another round next time I am in Boston. There were only two things that stood in the way of not a full 5 star review. 1 - they did rush us a bit to free up the table for the next resy. In all fairness - they forewarned me as I was making the reservation with them. 2 - The Kitchen Appreciation fee of 3% which I didn't notice till later. In the scheme of things - it's a big deal - but why not just roll that into your food prices? Given our wine bill was almost as much as our food bill - I find myself questioning if I'm paying this fee on both food and the bottles of wine we bought ? Amazing Italian food and atmosphere! Carmelina's has wonderful service and even better food. My family and I, a party of 5, were seated as soon as we arrived for our 5pm reservation on a Sunday in early August. It was an earlier dinner than we were used to, but even though I booked weeks in advance, the restaurant only has ~2 tables that can fit parties of 5-6 people. Our table was right next to the large open front window which faces onto Hanover Street. It was great to experience the nice day outside and watch the street life while enjoying our meal and each other's company. A parade with a marching band even came down the street due to a festival going on that day! We could also see into the restaurant's nice, clean kitchen as well which is always an added bonus. For appetizers we ordered the fried calamari and the wild mushroom risotto. Both were delicious with the mushroom risotto being the highlight of the meal for us! For entrees we had the penne gorgonzola, penne capricciose, and baked 4 mushroom rigatoni; they were all great. Highly recommend making reservations here for your next night out! read more

Carmelina's had so many great reviews that we bought our parents a gift card there. We had read the rules about ordering everything at the same time, being out within 90 minutes, etc, and we were fine with that. Our server was friendly and hardworking but the some of the food was very disappointing. The veal was so overcooked that it was dry and almost impossible to chew. The carbonara was too salty and the bacon overwhelmed the dish but it wasn't as bad as the veal by any means. The bolognese was very good and we enjoyed the caprese salad. When we told her that two people in our party couldn't eat the veal, she looked surprised and agreed it may have been over done. Each of them had left most of the veal on their plate. When the bill came, nothing was discounted or taken off. So next time we will try another place in the North End. read more
