We visited Benevento's in the North End for a pasta meal a few days before the Boston Marathon. Having been to a few other North End restaurants, I would say that this place rates slightly above average. Service was quick but you could tell that the servers were very busy and didn't have much time for pleasantries. The restaurant was packed and loud (definitely recommend having reservations) and tables were VERY close together, making it tricky to get in and out of the seating, even for my husband and I who are not large people. For the food - mine was outstanding! I tried a homemade pasta with a blush sauce and it was fantastic. The pasta was fresh with the perfect consistency, and the sauce was so rich and well flavored. My husband, who is gluten intolerant, had gluten free pasta with broccolini and sausage. He said his meal was just ok. The gluten free pasta looked to be the same brand we buy at home, and the flavor of the sauce was average. Overall, it was a fun night out, but I think we would probably opt to try a different North End restaurant next time. read more

Very disappointed in the service received this past Saturday night, 5/23/26. I made a reservation far in advance for a party of 6 at 7pm. The restaurant confirmed my reservation day of around noon time and the day before. My party arrived at the restaurant promptly and they were unable to seat us. We waited over twenty minutes outside before being seated and the host never grabbed my party. I repeatedly had to walk in to request an update and was continuously brushed aside. This is my second time-- again we found this place just by walking around. something about it is inviting! We splurged, and ordered the spinach crepe. 10/10. Really fantastic. The street that Benevento's is on has tons of Italian competitors, the places we originally wanted to check out were all long waits, but this didn't have a wait so we gave it a shot. We just had a huge workout and were famished -- this place has large portions and was very satisfying to have. Very simple Italian dishes, we got the North Ender and Alfredo. Benevento's Original Brick Oven Kitchen & Bar is an Italian restaurant that opened in Boston, Massachusetts in June 2010. It was founded by restaurateur Joe Bono. He first opened the Italian restaurant Al Dente at 109 Salem Street in the North End (aka Boston's "Little Italy") in 1993. After several successful years, Bono decided to acquire the space next door which had been home to Trani Ice Cream for a number of years. He dubbed his new Italian restaurant venture "Benevento's". It was meant to be a more contemporary version of Al Dente where customers could have a more affordable take-out or sit-down option. In 2017, Bono opened BenCotto, a speciality pizzeria, at 361 Hanover Street. My family and I recently visited Benvento's for the first time. We were spending the day in Boston and found ourselves in the North End by the end of the day. We were getting pretty hungry for dinner and started looking for a place to grab some food. I'm an observant Italian Jew and Passover happened to be going on this week, so I looked on Yelp to see if there were any Italian restaurants that had gluten-free options (no easy feat). Benevento's came up highly recommended. The interior was kind of small but cozy and charming. Although I wasn't allowed to eat pizza this week, I certainly enjoyed smelling it cook in the brick oven. For food, I had the "Burrata Salad" (soft mozzarella, roasted peppers, and Prosciutto di Parma over a bed of arugula w/ EVOO drizzle), my wife had the "Grilled Chicken Salad" (fresh baby greens tossed in homemade balsamic vinaigrette dressing, roasted peppers, fresh mozzarella and tomato topped with warm grilled chicken), our older son had "Kids Linguine with Marinara Sauce", and our younger son had "Kids Cheese Ravioli". I'm not going to lie, but salads would not have been our first choice if it wasn't Passover. That being said, the salads that my wife and I had were excellent! Our sons loved their pasta dishes too! Wandered through north end and took a recommendation from a friend to try out Benevento's. The restaurant itself is very narrow with limited tables and bar seating. The tables were very close to one another, but made for the experience. We ordered a flatbread and lobster ravioli which were delicious!! Recently traveled to Boston to see family, and we went to Benevento's a small restaurant off of Salem street. Very cosy inside. We were greeted right away and they were very accommodating to the fact 4 of us were there and 4 would show up later. They gave us bread and butter to start. The baguette was not warm and we were given cold butter packed to spread. I would highly recommend warming the bread and flavoring the butter, or a simple olive oil that has been infused would have taken this a long way. The portions were quite big and the hubby and I shared the pasta. The pasta was cooked perfectly aldente with a nice chew. The vodka sauce was good, but it could've used a bit of red pepper flakes to give it a bit of heat. If I'm back in Boston I would suggest this place, but there maybe others that are better. read more

Three of us had been on a walking tour through Boston and we were in the North End at lunch time. We had heard Regina's was good for pizza but there was a line of people waiting in the hot sun, so we went to Benevento's based on its Yelp reviews and boy were we not disappointed. This is a small classic looking Italian Bar/restaurant. They had a steady business going but we got in no problem. The service at lunch time was great. Their beer was cold, the bread served was fresh and the Olive Oil to dip it in was excellent. We ordered the Rolled Eggplant stuffed with cheese appetizer and a Pepperoni and Garlic Pizza. The Eggplant was cooked perfect. The pizza crust was a little over cooked and we could hardly find any Garlic on the pizza. Overall, a good experience and lunch. read more

Originally I wanted to go to Al Dente, but the wait was a hour and a half and the host mentioned that next-door they had the same exact menu. So I decided to try Benevento's. I ended up getting the same exact thing that I got from Al Dente a year ago which was the handmade Fussili Carbonara, but this time I didn't add sausage and I got a meatball on the side. The pasta was amazing! Loved the soft texture of the fussili. The carbonara sauce was really good as well - nice and creamy. The pancetta was somewhat chewy, but overall I really enjoyed the dish! The meatball dish was also amazing! The meatball itself wasn't overly seasoned but the sauce and the cheese really complemented the meatball well. I was pleasantly surprised by how good this tasted - it was a very simple dish that had amazing flavor! Washed it down with the Chianti and that made my night! So if you can't make it into Al Dente, go next-door to Benevento's! read more

Walked in to a very empty restaurant without a reservation, but the lady immediately asked if had a reservation, ha! We were told to pick any table we wanted. Ultimately we ordered a pepperoni pizza, Caesar salad, and linguine bolognese. Honestly all of the food was very meh. Nothing tasted that fresh. They were all as basic as basic can be. The linguine bolognese portion was absolutely massive, too. But after only a few bites I was over it. In the end I had high expectations for this restaurant and was ultimately let down. However, the staffs are extremely nice and constantly asking us if we need anything once we are seated. I would highly recommend the chicken Parmesan here! We were served pretty quickly on a busy Saturday afternoon. The food came out promptly, and the house wine was good. However, the prices were a bit high. The kitchen staff seemed very angry and cursed a lot, which was amusing. The ambiance was a bit too cramped and loud for my liking. They are accommodating from the outside in. No reservation on a busy Saturday evening, no problem! I highly recommend the outdoor seating in the back. Wasn't our first choice for Italian, but the other spots I wanted to visit were booked. We arrived a few minutes before our reservation time and were seated promptly. It is a small place and the tables are on top of each other. Our server, Amanda, was nice and attentive. We shared a Caesar salad to start, which was really good. My wife had the linguine w/pesto. I had the cheese lasagna with a meatball. Both entrees were good but I just wasn't blown away. My wife did have quite a bit leftover so the serving was a decent size. They also gave us quite a bit of bread to take with us. Given where I was at I was expecting more, especially for what we were charged. When I come back to Boston, I'll be sure to try a different place and not snooze on making a reservation. read more

When we alerted them to the situation, they brought the pasta almost 30 minutes later instead of taking the dish and prepare it properly. They charged us for the mussels that we ordered, despite I told them it is inappropriate to charge us for a pasta dish that was not prepared properly. We made a reservation for four two weeks in advance. However, we were seated in the basement (think dungeon). The basement has no windows, is next to the kitchen prep area and smells like bleach. We waited about 10 minutes for a server to take our drink order and then the drinks arrived about 15 minutes later. The kitchen made an error on one of our entrees, but we kept it anyway. Carbonara Linguine with Chicken was fantastic. Excellent flavor, chicken was fresh and juicy, just an awesome dish. My wife had the Vodka Sauce Ravioli and it was delightful. Perfectly cooked ravioli and paired nicely with the Vodka sauce. Chicken Benevento had asparagus, tomato, cheese, angel hair pasta and chicken breast, slight smoky flavor in the meat and fresh with the vegetables, again just an awesome dish. Tortellini Rustica with bolognese sauce which was meaty and flavorful. Service was perfect. Amanda took great care of us and made great recommendations. TV's to watch a game if that's what you're looking for which is a tad hard to find in the North End. To finish the meal, Amanda brought us a Lemoncello shot which was a nice touch. Went here over the weekend with friends. Wish I'd remembered it was St. Patrick's day (and how popular this area is for that holiday)... The restaurant is fairly narrow. We had a party of about a dozen, and things were a little cozy/snug. Our waitress and the entire staff was fabulous. Every dish was fresh and great portion sizes (several of us took left-overs home). Prices were a bit expensive, but very reasonable for the size. They did a great job topping off beverages and complimentary bread. With many Italian restaurants in the north end to choose from, I would definitely recommend this one. read more

Terrific food! It was quite crowded this Saturday evening, and we had reservations for a large party - 24 folks. We had to wait for seating, but that was okay! When seated - the wives, hubby's and the lads (our HS crew team boys) were at separate locations, but that was just fine. The waitstaff was excellent and attentive. Drinks and orders taken without haste. The IPA I got was really great...some sorta boom boom thing or something? I ordered the Spinach ravioli and a small house salad. My food...everyone's food...was excellent! My boy had lasagna that he thought was fine! No complaints about anything at any table. My boyfriend and I have been coming here since the first year we started dating and it's become our spot. Not only does this place have sentimental value to us we love it here, there's always a table open for us to sit at where we're greeted with a smile, our servers are always so attentive, our food (usualy pasta) always comes shortly after ordering, and there is never a a dirty table in sight.
