So, let's get started... it was a game night and Greenville was pretty busy so my expectations were not super high for Carolina Ale House. By the grace of all that is holy we got a seat and the bar. No one acknowledged us for over 10 minutes so I asked the bar tender for menus. Again this place was PACKED so we give grace to the staff. After flagging a bartender down a second time he was more attentive and very friendly. We had a beer and water so drinks were fine. On to food. We were underwhelmed. To our left and right burgers and calabash platters looked so good. My fiancé order a patty melt. When I saw his toast was still white, I knew we messed up. His patty melt was barely warm, no caramelized onions, cheese was barely melted. I ordered the Cajun shrimp pasta. The sauce was good, pasta was cooked just fine, smelled great. I thought I bit into plastic eating it but I was actually happy it was just onion peel. Two whole intact onion peels. I guess because there were onion ringed sized pieces of onion in my dish. Also, a neutral point- there were no tomatoes, no green onion, and the green peppers seemed fresh not cooked. Her demeanor was notably disengaged; she avoided even basic eye contact and exhibited little regard for professional courtesy. If this establishment considers that standard 'customer service,' I would strongly suggest a reevaluation of both training and expectations. I mentioned it to the server/bartender, not asking for anything, just giving a heads-up, and we were totally fine paying for it. Absolutely unacceptable experience at Carolina Ale House. Ordered a burger, took a few bites, and quickly realized something was off. The middle was completely raw, but I second-guessed myself at first because the edges looked a little brown. Once I realized I was basically eating uncooked meat, I lost my appetite entirely. Didn't send it back because, frankly, I was too grossed out. When the bartender asked if I wanted to box it up and take it home, I was stunned. Who in their right mind would want to take home a raw burger? Then came the real kicker--when the bill came, they tried to charge me full price. I refused, obviously, and the manager stepped in... only to offer me a whopping $2 off because I had taken "almost half" of the burger. That's right, $2 off for serving me raw meat. Came to have dinner and drinks at Carolina Ale House with a few friends. Location: Great location, it's in the heart of a small downtown area with lots to do. We came for a late dinner so everything was pretty much closed but it looked like during the day there would be a lot to enjoy. The area is very welcoming with lights lighting up the streets and tons of street parking. It's a two story building so this restaurant has lots of seating and maybe TVs to watch the game on. Service: The host could of been a bit friendly. I never ask for too much or extra but if you're an employee and they are paying you to show the least you can do is be nice. I know we all have our good days and bad days but I'm in town visiting and spending my money at an establishment and the last thing I want is bad attitudes or service. The waitress that was working our table was very nice and helpful, I really hope she didn't have to share her tips because she should of gotten everything just for being nice. Food: Tacos and chips is what I ordered, definitely bar food with a little extra on it. My chips and salsa were good enough to hit the spot on a late night. My tacos were a good size and full with ingredients, they had flavor and were enjoyable. I love my beer on tap and they had a big selection of beers to choose from. We sat, I went to the ladies room to wash my hands and passed a waitress who was just sitting there. The bathroom was gross and smelled terrible. I came back to the table and told my husband that the bathroom was nasty, he went to wash his hands. Said waitress swooped through our area as my husband was walking back to our table, she came with feet of our table but never acknowledged me and just walked by. A+ job on Friday with the closing of so many businesses. Ale house was one of the only restaurants open. They did a limited menu (extremely smart) and were packed out. Bar was full and all tables were full when we walked in. We waited 35 minutes for a table which is understandable with the circumstances. Food came out in another 45 minutes. Our server was obviously flustered but she took well care of us. And we had a great time! Very awesome to see good people working and a restaurant that capitalized on the circumstances. Gone way downhill from what it used to be. Service extremely slow. Drinks not attended to. Place was a mess (floors dirty). Food came out after a very long wait and was luke warm at best. One dish outright cold. Other 3 dishes lukewarm. Waitress was very nice. That's the only reason for 1 star (her kindness). I did ask them to take the cold burger off of the bill since it was barely touched (waitress took care of that). That was nice. I visit Carolina Ale House on UGA Away football games where UGA Alumni host their watch parties on game day. They have a private room upstairs next to the bar. Usually there are 2 servers in the room. I don't think that has been enough for the crowds UGA has. It's a long wait to get drinks/food. We end up walking to bar to get our own drinks but that means you have to have 2 tabs open. The food is good. The menu is typical for a sports bar. Mixed Drinks are expensive for the small glasses (mostly full of ice.) Not sure I would come here (with all the other restaurants downtown )unless it was to watch a game. read more

We went with some family members to the Carolina Ale House at 113 S Main St in Greenville, SC. There is limited parking close to the restaurant, but not a real problem even though some of us use canes to help us walk. The first problem we encountered was the elevator when the door was supposed to open, but did not. I was finally able to open it with a little effort. We arrived upstairs. My friend tried to order an ale from the "on tap" menu. Not available. Another try. Not available. On the 6th try, he was able to get something. This is an Ale House? Really? Our orders were taken. We waited. Other customers who ordered after we did were finishing their meals when we were served. The food arrived and was pretty good, but I have definitely had better. Meal complete and bill settled. A trip to the men's room was needed before leaving. And what a restroom it was. The panel between 2 of the 3 urinals was missing. There was a huge hole in the wall. 1 of the 2 faucets had no handle. There were no paper towels and no forced air dryer. Oh, well. Par for the course. Back to the elevator for departure. Hmm, stuck door. We finally got that open, got in, and started on an uneventful ride to the 1st floor, except that the door will not open at the bottom. We pulled the emergency knob. It was deafening, so we turned it off and pushed pretty hard on the door. It finally opened and we departed, NEVER to return. read more
