Pretty tasty coffee! The vanilla latte is delicious and coffee strong. Warning: the cups for hot coffee start to absorb the liquid really quick and can cause the cup to break down...you could end up spilling the coffee or burning yourself. Cute shop with outdoor seating overlooking a parking lot. I ordered the chai latte, and it was all milk and a whisper of chai. Tasted like a cup of whole milk, looked like a cup of whole milk. Just tried this new location and I have to say that I'm loving Cartel!! So happy this new location opened up as it's more convenient. I'm love the coffee, hot chocolate and gluten free baked goods. The only draw back is there is no drive through. They should have gone into the Sip Coffee place that closed on Shea, which was an easier entrance and exit. Super happy to have a Cartel in the PV community! A friend had mentioned that there was a new Cartel in the neighborhood, and we immediately made plans to visit. I love all of the other locations around the Valley, and this one hopefully I will come to love. I ordered a dirty chai and my partner a chai. We got it with an alternative nut milk. The drinks were good - per usual - but not hot enough...but perhaps I can request it to be made extra hot next time! The space is pretty standard for a coffee shop. I also noticed that they had vegan offerings in their refrigerated section. The order taker and barista were alright, friendly for the most part. There was a mix up in our drinks for a short moment because the barista did not indicate which drink she was providing first. Anywho, I will be back! read more

No skim milk and no coconut milk. Seriously? Ordered vanilla latte in smaller of two sizes. Came out in itty bitty cup (for $5!!) and with syrup spilled down outside. Barista saw that I had a sticky hand and had to duck into the bathroom for wet paper towel to wipe off. No apology or help. Coffee is decent, but lousy service. I was one of three customers in store. I'm typically hesitant to visit any Cartel coffee, but this location has officially deferred me from ever visiting any location again. The staff was not particularly friendly and I paid nearly $7 for a cappuccino, which is not unusual for Cartel. However, what really irked me was the extreme lack of cleanliness in this location. I spent 4-5 hours doing computer work there and not once did I see an employee wipe down a table or clear dirty mugs, napkins, and/or cups that were leftover from previous customers. The tables were filthy, full of crumbs, and floors needed to be swept. This location was lackluster. Disappointed. read more

I like coming to the spot early in the morning and in the afternoons. It's typically not very busy which is nice and allows for me to be able to get some work done while enjoying a cuppa coffee. Most of the workers are pleasant and have been competent/helpful with the orders. For the most part, everybody is pretty cheerful as well, and they play decent music for the most part. This morning, someone had burnt cooking spray on the griddle in the entire shop smelled like oil. Unfortunately I smell like oil now too. I was also not a huge fan of that music that she was playing. I've tried Cartel Coffee before, but I didn't really remember if I liked it. I was quite surprised to see that a new location came to my neighborhood and so decided to try it out. I got a hot 8 oz vanilla latte with almond milk. It was strong but ok. I can see why many people like it. I also got a blueberry ricotta coffee cake and it was yuck. Finally went into this cute coffee shop that I've been wanting to try for like a year! liked the music and the vibe of the storefront. The barista was nice, but small talked me, which personally I don't care for. It's her job so I'm sure she's supposed to do that, I really wish they'd do away with that. It's just too much...and not sincere. So what's the point? Anyway, back to the coffee...I ordered an iced honey lavender oat milk latte. The coffee was good (and I'm a coffee snob so that's saying something), the oat milk was smooth and the flavor was good, EXCEPT the barista spent 5 minutes talking to a guy who came to get ice water in his water bottle and proceeded to give him her number. While I was waiting for my drink! So needless to say I was not pleased with the service. My iced latte was warm, not enough ice and mediocre since the honey was all on the bottom. Super disappointed... I ordered a quad shot vanilla oat milk latte for 8.15 and tipped an extra dollar. The gal that greeted me was very sweet and friendly. She took my order and that was it. The barista made my drink and set it on the counter. I took a sip and could tell it wasn't 4 shots and it was also cold/Luke warm. I asked if it was 4 shots and he said oh, no it's not. Then he asked me " do you want me to remake it?" Um... yes please, as I just paid $9 for a drink I'd like it to be what I ordered. He was very rude after that and never addressed me again. Made the drink and set it on the counter. It still tasted like crap and mostly milk with very little coffee flavor. You need to know exactly what you want when ordering. The espresso is really strong so, I do not recommend on an empty stomach unless you have an iron stomach. I really like the vibe of Cartel in Old Town Scottsdale and think that the Paradise Valley Cartel is a little too open. It would be tough to have a conversation without all hearing. The menu is rich and offers a much better selection of real pressed coffee that reminds me of a European cup of joe. First time experience not good. My husband ordered our usual drinks - iced coffees with sugar-free vanilla and a splash of heavy cream. I think Cartel Coffee is the best tasting in all of Phoenix and, yes, I did scientifically prove this a few years back when I bought beans from every local roaster and compared them side by side. I also think the folks at Cartel Coffee Lab are pretty smart for opening their latest store right in the middle of what has to be the highest concentration of boring/bland/nondescript/blah businesses in town (exception being The Covenant, Paradise Juice and of course Trader Joe's- you guys rock). I stopped in for the first time today and it warmed my heart to see this location of Cartel has no intention of changing the level of service from their more urban locations. Don't expect to be rushed through the order line like Starbuck's, but do expect lots of interaction between their workers and customers to make sure everyone gets the best product possible. There also isn't much space in the store, so plan to visit with the others in line with you, and with the people sitting next to you if you do get a spot to sit. To reiterate, if you want a quick coffee drink, head to the Starbuck's drive through. If you want wifi to work a couple of hours, grab one of the many open tables at Starbuck's. If you have time to try the best coffee/espresso in the Valley, poke your head into the new Cartel.
