Went for the first time with another couple. Sat at the outside bar for a drink. Had to wait a few minutes for The bartender to come out. Didn't greet us could barely hear him when he said what can I get you. The bar was full and on the TV was was ultimate fighting, we asked if he could change the station to something a little bit more enjoyable, and you know what he said, I have money on this fight. I took my wife to Casa Antica for her birthday. I called for reservations and mentioned it was her birthday and asked for a table by the window. When we arrived the hostess took us to a table in front of the back door. it was very drafty and very busy with all the servers going in and out from the outdoor tables. We asked to sit at one of the tables by the window and she said no because those tables were set up for 4 people. She then took us to the middle of the restaurant in the corner where there were two tables. She gave us our choice of tables. By now she was getting irritated with us. We chose one of the tables and she gave us our menus and left. It was so dark we could barely see the menu Our waitress approached us and said "Do you know what you want to drink"? Not hello, how are you, Nothing... She brought us our drinks and left. Meanwhile, another couple came in and was seated at the other of the two tables in that area. It was obvious the waitress knew them and they got the gold star treatment. Their waitress was all over them.. They arrived 15 min after we did but they had their drinks and bread/appetizer plate the same time as we were just getting our drinks. Our waitress came over to take our order and we told her we wanted rice balls for an appetizer. A few moments later the table next to us were served rice balls. Nothing for us. We timed it and 10 min later I stopped another server to ask for our server. She came over and I asked were our rice balls were. She shrugged her shoulder's and said I don't know what to tell you.. By now I've had it. I asked to speak to the manager.. She apologized and left.. Once again our neighboring table were served their dinners, on their second drink order and their server was at their table every 10 minutes. We never saw our server until our dinner was brought out. This was by far the worst service we have ever experienced!! I will say our entees were delicious.. Our compliments to the chef!! To top it all off , as our neighboring were leaving, their server came over to them and said "There was an extra order of rice balls in the kitchen,would you like to take them home"!!!!! lol As they were leaving they looked over and said We're sorry!! I'm pretty intrigued by some of the other reviews of Casa Antica. I'll simplify my review. I've never had poor service here and have always had good food. Typically, when I go here I'll get something off the specials and usually seafood. It's a more "Mediterranean Italian" I guess you could say (not your Pine Ave. italian..) so if you're expecting meat covered in cheese and sauce, that's not what this is. I've had some great lobster and sea bass here. Service always good, wine promptly refilled (and that is, sadly, a challenge for a quick sipper like me). I'll say something else about this place. They show up to every community event with wraps, rice balls, etc. They engage the community and like to be part of it, and I like that. read more

We have been here a couple times before, and were not overly impressed, but the food is okay and we had a gift certificate, so we returned. I had planned on purchasing another $100 gift cert for my parents, but based on the service we got it wasn't happening. We arrived at 7:35 for a 7:30 reservation, and were promptly seated (myself, husband, 14 yr old, and 1 yr old). We were still waiting on 2 more adults, but figured we would order a bottle of wine, get some bread and an appetizer. Fat chance. We sat for a full half hour before we actually received a drink, despite the fact that after 15 minutes we saw them realize no one was waiting on us. By this time the baby, who normally loves restaurants, was pissed. I hadn't brought him a snack because I knew this place has a generous bread basket, with rolls, pizza, garlic knots, etc., and I knew he would be happy with that. Except it didn't come until 8:15, even though we specifically asked for it. I was standing in the hallway at this point when the hostess came up and made some comment about the baby not liking it here. I said, no, he is just hungry, and we have been here for a good half hour without so much as a drink or a bread basket. Instead of apologizing, she blamed our table, saying we came in during a rush, we couldn't have bread until we ordered food, and we were "staggering" in, therefore that's why we didn't get waited on. Um, what?!? I waited tables for a long long time, and never dreamed of letting people sit without wine and bread, or at least water and freaking menus, which we had to ask for as well! And a whiny baby? He can't get a piece of bread until we order?? We would have ordered if someone would have waited on us. But really, did they think we were just gonna eat the free bread and leave? Pathetic. Our bill was over $400, without dessert, which we would have ordered if we had had better service. We also likely would have had another bottle of wine. Once we got a waitress, she was perfectly fine. My food was very mediocre (fettuccine bolognese), but my husbands veal chop was good. I could have dealt with the debacle if the hostess had been apologetic, but she was ridiculous. We dine out often and I usually can take bad service in stride and empathize, but this was the first time I have felt compelled to write a review. Will never return. read more

I've only been to Casa Antica twice and I have to say it's one of my favorite Italian restaurants in all of upstate and western NY. It's in this little town called Lewiston, the last city on the way to the Canadian border, and it has been totally worth the trip each of my two visits. I'm not sure what region of Italy these people are cooking from, but it's definitely not your standard American Italian fare. There's artichokes, lemon, wine, banana peppers, prosciutto, sundried tomatoes and more, and it's all wonderfully acidic and cooked to perfection every time. They bring various kinds of homemade breads to the table with various toppings on the side when you first sit down (the eggplant one is by far my favorite) and it just really sets the mood for an excellent meal - hearty, warm, rich, and best of all, delicious! The two times I've gone I've ordered their arancini for an appetizer and I think the first time I went it was by far the best. It was in the summer and beets were in season, and so there was this luscious earthy, beet-flavored savory-sweet red fried arborio rice ball complete with fresh herbs and melted mozzarella in the middle that just oooooozed with goodness. I swear I can still taste it today. The entrees have been stellar every time as well. Typically I've gone with the Pollo Sorentino and it is just packed with flavor. The chicken is moist and absorbs all of the red wine-tomato sauce as do all of the accompanying vegetables that almost taste like they were braised! Not only that, the portion size is huge! I've always had enough to take some home with me, which only leads to the flavor intensifying overnight for lunch the next day. Long story short - Casa Antica serves excellent Italian food. I have been here numerous times and entertain a considerable number of guests from all over the world. The first place I always take them to dine is here. The food is amazing. Never fails to impress people. I never notice the service. I go here to dine, dinner is easily a two-hour event. Some things I always order knowing people will be impressed: rice balls, stuffed peppers, and lobster ravioli. I hear the pizza is excellent, but I am not a pizza person. Homemade gnocchi is the real deal. It just doesn't exist as a staple at a lot of places. My personal fave is the osso buco. When they make it, the pork braciole is amazing. What could be better during an afternoon stroll at the Lewiston Art festival than sitting outside and enjoying a lunch while people watching under a beautiful awning? Apparently lunch at THIS restaurant. The food was okay, but then again I didn't sample the items that are actually cooked here..... I opted for a salad and a bowl of soup. Well, I would have LIKED an aranchini (famed rice ball), but I was told that they weren't being served for lunch. WHY? They were being served by the restaurant at the take-away booth not 10 feet away from my table. I could see 'em being carried out in steaming trays and accompanied by pots of tomato sauce. What would have been the BIG DEAL to plop one of a plate and serve it to me. You could have even charged me more than the $5 being charged curb-side. Heck, for a rice ball served on a real plate I would have easily forked over (pun intended) $6-$7. And, you, dear waitress would have gotten a bigger tip. Well..... onto what I did get: A Caprese Salad. Great house-made mozzarella cheese and tomatoes were drizzled with a slightly overpowering garlic infused olive oil and topped with (not torn, not chopped, not sliced, but an entire sprig of) basil. The accompanying olives were a nice touch. As were the spreads (olive tampenade, spicy veggie, and chunky tomato) accompanying the bread.....regular Italian, a pizza like bread (very dry), and garlic knots which would have been better if they weren't kind of burnt on the outside and still cold on the inside. After my salad I had a bowl of the "Beans and Greens" soup. The broth was very, very salty and didn't have the usual zip of Parmesan. The greens were flavorful as were the white beans.... but I'm wondering why there were red kidney bean and a few tomato chunks in the soup as well. And, where were the tiny pasta tubes? All in all the meal was rather disappointing. Not worth the price.... and certainly not worth the hour and a half of my day spent sitting around waiting for a simple salad and bowl of soup. Based on tonights service and food I would have given it a 1 however we had just the opposite experience two weeks ago. Two weeks ago our experience was great... Solid service and amazing food. (if a bit too large portions) That night was a bit of a snow storm and not many people. Tonight was an entirely different experience, apps were amazing however service was poor and dinner was not acceptable. My swordfish special sat so long under the warmer that it burnt my hand to touch the plate... Two of the other dinners were either cold or under cooked, only one of the 4 was ok. It is sad as we had built up tonights dinner based on our experience / meal of two weeks ago and tonight was not close. Great ambiance and a great staff. The restaurant was very busy last night. We started with a pizza to share. I found it very good. Crisp crust coupled with perfectly portioned toppings. Delish. My dining partners ordered the filet and the seafood pasta. I ordered the fettuccine bolognese. The filet was cooked perfectly and was very tender. There was some sort of sweetness to the rub or seasoning that was different but good. The seafood pasta (ordered spicy) was perfectly cooked. The seafood was huge and plentiful. First went to this place when we bought a coupon. So glad we did. Have been back so many times and never disappointed! Beautiful inside, the waitstaff great, prices good, and food...DELICIOUS. They spoil you to not want to go to any other Italian rest. Our favorite dish is the clams and spaghetti. We have never has such succulent clams, and the sauce.....double yum! We lap up all the sauce and when we look sheepish....the waitress just laughs and brings more bread. As a starter, the breads and different things for you to dip it in is spectacular. The homemade gnocchi with pesto is also glorious. So many things to chose from and all so good! It is number one on our favorite Italian joys to indulge in. We really love the food here. It's just outstanding. We usually get takeout (which is always fabulous) but actually went there for New Year's Eve. The service in the past has been so awful (slow..slow...slow...people who answer the phone can't answer basic questions...etc) that we stopped going at all but always get takeout (We get takeout from them a couple of times a month). People my husband knows refuse to go because the service is so frustrating. They too always get takeout though and rave over it. We were pleasantly surprised that the service was almost as good as the food. The food -- as usual -- was great. I can't say enough good things about it. I had the sea bass which I've had before. It was perfect. My husband had the lobster ravioli and they were just fantastic as always. It was all I could do to keep from taking them away from him. We splurged on dessert (because we really didn't need it). We split the peanut butter gelato. OMG. Words cannot describe how yummy. So if you've never been, you've got to go. Just give yourself plenty of time if you've got somewhere else to go and stay patient in case the service is spotty. The food won't disappoint you. LOVE this place. The food is the best Italian I've had yet and I've been to Italy and back! The rice balls and stuffed banana peppers are famous and the entres are huge (so come hungry). They always have interesting specials (like swordfish or elk) and the staff is friendly. I do recommending you expect to take time for your dinner. Everything is homemade and sometimes takes a while, but it is worth the wait! The bread dishes that come out first can be filling too, so pace yourself. The chef also likes to come out of the kitchen sometimes to make sure "everybody's happy" which is really nice. Any normal weekend or weekday is great to eat here, though beware festival weekends. Waitress escorted us up front to window area. Gave us menus and left. If there was a 3.5 stars, I'd be more akin to give Casa Antica that. However, if rounded, it's a solid 3 stars. The place is quaint & nice. It seems very "family Italian" oriented. It's a little tight of a squeeze, but it definitely screams Italian descent. We were put in a corner booth/table whereas the booth seating is shared in a row while the table has chairs on the other side. We ordered a Pepperoni Caldi Ripieni, and it was divine. The banana peppers had a nice filling of salami & pecorino cheese, but the cream sauce is what set it apart from others. While waiting for our order, we got the typical bread & dipping sauce, but it was anything but typical. Three types of bread & three sauces each distinctively different made it very unique. The pizza sample & knot bread were great. The meal of itself was a "dinner for two" Pollo Salsiccia & Funghi. The meal was good, but I'm not quite sure if that alone would have filled both of us. It was served "family" style whereas you share a big plate between the two of you. The meal was good, but the only reason I dock it a star or two is because service was SLOW! It took well over an hour for the pasta to come, when others were getting served before & after us. Food good, service slow. Yelp failed us on this restaurant. I believe in the power of crowd sourcing reviews but it is not working here. My wife and I went out for a date night and Casa Antica can only be described as disappointing. Made a reservation for Saturday night. Got there to find a line of maybe 8 people but no hostess. Finally the hostess showed up but never acknowledged anyone standing there. I am assuming she was new because she kept tying to push the door open when it was a pull only (Classic Far Side cartoon). Finally got our table but had to ask to be moved (first time I have ever done this) due to being right next to the door and under a blast of cold air. Finally got a nice table and ordered our food. We tired the Rice Balls which seems to be there deal (the staff have T Shirts that all say "Got Rice Balls", maybe not as classy as I would have liked for date night) they were fine. I ordered pasta with their vodka sauce, which had a good flavor but looked nothing like the huge potions that other yelpers have stated in their reviews. We did get an entertaining show with some older man storming through the restaurant yelling he would never come back and he would tell all his friends. That was followed up by one of the staff walking by our table muttering some four letter words under her breath. In the end we could not find our waitress to get the check, we flagged down some random person finally got the check and tried to get out of there. On the way out I watched the guy next to us send back his lobster plate because it was cold. So you tell me, why should this be a yelp four star restaurant? Bottom line is if you have bad service, food is expensive, and your staff has T shirts that seem to remind you of the Rocky Mountain testicle festival how did this happen. I had read some reviews about the aranchi balls so we had to try them and we were not disappointed just as expected so tasty. We also tried the goat cheese balls as an appetizer and they were great. Ok so I have now been here 3 times, and I think that I must need my head examining for returning after the 2nd time. For some odd reason the waiting staff seem to like to give the impression that they are more important that you, the customer. The "service" provided is both very poor and extremely slow...verging on just plain rude. The food I have had here can only be described as ordinary, average at best, over seasoned and definitely overpriced for what you receive. The owner/chef seems to like to come out into the restaurant to speak with each party, which is good, but then goes on to spoil it by acting like it's a given that you will be delighted and highly impressed with his cooking and restaurant. A little bullish and somewhat arrogant you could say. With assuming questioning about how great you must think the food is...it's like he's fishing for compliments... which in my opinion is far from warranted! The last time I went there with my daughter (11 years old), the service was just plain dreadful. The staff were either too busy chatting with each other, or simply nowhere to be found. Even when they were around there was never even a cursory glance over to notice that we were trying to attract their attention. To get my wine glass refilled I felt as though I either need to shout across the restaurant, or get up and walk over to ask. Definitely not an enjoyable experience. It wasn't like we ordered the cheapest things on the menu, at around $120 for the two of us, (which only included a couple if glasses of wine for me) it wasn't exactly cheap, so the very least they could do would be to actually make us feel welcome, but instead we were left with the feeling that we were kind of bothering them just being there. I left there feeling very disappointed, and that we should have gone somewhere else. I had a similar experience each previous time but went back in the hope that things may have improved. I've been here twice- once for Mother's Day brunch buffet, and once for Valentine's day. However, it wasn't actually on Valentine's Day, but rather in celebration of. I have to say, I REALLY enjoyed this restaurant. It is very cozy, romantic, and authentic. The bread and three dips they serve is enough to make me go back. I remember the brunch buffet to be out-of-this-world! Everything seemed fresh, unique, and expensive. Our party was very impressed. Valentine's dinner was fantastic. I ordered a chicken entree and was very pleased. It was very flavorful and had many delicious ingredients. It came with a side of pasta that was enough to be a full meal. The highlight of my meal was the dessert. I think it had to be the single most amazing dessert I've had. I am a huge fan of peanut butter, and this was a peanut butter bomba. It was peanut butter gelato in a hard chocolate shell with caramel swirls and a homemade whip cream on top. The best restaurant in Lewiston, Bar none! I've been to all the Bigs (in Buffalo) plenty, and this is "the one." Drinks are WELL worth the money, and they are always "long pour." NEVER disappointed at the bar! That's just been my experience with it. Bar is cozy, with small TVs tucked in a couple of places. Fits the place perfectly. The Chef takes pride in his establishment, and it shows in his cuisine. He likes to come out of the kitchen and talk briefly with the tables. He is skilled and, and hails from NYC. He runs a tight ship from what I can gather from my quality assessment over a long period of time. A restaurant is a hard place to run, with all the different palates and preferences. Casa is consistent and special. Apps, specials, entrees, steaks, sides, drinks and desserts...all superb. Well made sauces, pastas, cuts of meat, presentations, soups, portion sizes. PLUS, sometimes you find specials like ELK, or something else interesting! Rosoto is creamy and to die for! Seriously! Motivating! Get it with the Osso Bucco! OMG! A nice big dish. The wait staff is super. Critics, go poo! If you're waiting at a table in ANY restaurant for 45 minutes, then you must be invisible TRYING to hide! GO GET SOMEONE ANYWHERE after 10! Just got overlooked. There are many festivals down in Lewiston. If you're sitting there for 45 minutes without someone coming up to you, then you must look like you're "squatting."
