Good food there when doing a sit down! Just don't "order to go." It's not really a thing at all. So I called, placed order, gave a name, and caught her before she let me go, asking how long. She said "well we don't make it until you come pay." So I understand the reasoning, but that's not an "order to go" and she wasn't going to tell me that. That's fine though, I went and waited for probably only 5 min! Except, tacos barely have any cIlantro or onions, it was placed upside down in the container, and just a complete mess. Still tastes good just don't order to go!

I went to a random westside mom & pop joint with high expectations because the parking lot was full compared to other similar looking spots near by. I was judging the book by cover or in this case a full parking lot. Mistake #1. I stepped into a time warp was my first impression. I reallly wanted to give this place a 2.5 stars because it did plenty of things well. Service was ok; considering it was a packed house. The inside looked like a cross to someone's home from the 80s in the westside of town which this restaurant is at & those old 80s style Pizza Hut places with dark booths and those lights at the top of the booths. The Xmas lights were a bit tacky but I wasn't here for the decor. I'm all about the food. This is where I like to say that this place here is a Tex-Mex restaurant masquerading as a typical Jalisco style Mexican restaurant run by half of the staff from the barrios & half by Mexicans. This is what I've come to expect from a restaurant like this that's been in the neighborhood for years that sneaks in Tex-Mex into their menu. One such example is their Tripa taco. Not many places in town serve it & when they do it fried to hell, oil, & diced up really small & way to crispy even if its offered soft or medium. This taco has some good things going for it. Tortilla has homemade, soft, a little small for my liking but it was on point with salt & texture you come to expect from a well made flour tortilla. The trips itself was not to dried & fried up. I ordered it medium but it was dry but not oily. I was missing the onions & cilantro which is a preference but not standard when ordering it. The menu itself has the usual staples but nothing that stood out as signature or a house special. Again, it felt like a restaurant that goes through the motions & has its regulars. I asked the waitress what their specialty was she said people order the enchiladas or pork chop. None of that screamed special or something I should try. I looked around no one had those plates. It was at the table end of brunch & noticed that had 3 versions of Chilaquiles. I went with Chilaquiles a la Mexicana. I ordered it with white cheese. Portion size was fair. I ordered the plate with a side of bacon. Bacon was awesome. I like it spicy & thought a la Mexicana it would be spicy but it wasn't. It looked like they put some haphazard lazy pico in my Chilaquiles & called it a day. Nothing inspiring here to tell. Potatoes were also an after thought. Lumpy, oily & mushy. No bueno. Refried beans were lukewarm. Tasted fried & refried and scraped from the bottom of the pan. They were Russian roulette refried beans or the luck of the draw if you get my drift. Mistake #2. Waitress was busy bit found tine to flirt with the guy from neighborhood eating with his friend. There was chaos & noise & confusion all over the place as I got more than earful with my unfortunate seat I chose near the kitchen door with its hustle & bustle of grand daughters, your basic tias & tios running to & fro with plates, hot tortillas & bustling tables. I usually order extras & that's mistake #3 since everything is pricey on weekends & that's everywhere. I ordered that extra Tripa taco, 2 Mexican cokes with that plate of Chilaquiles & side of bacon. Normally that would of $15-17 been weekday. On a Saturday? Try $24 before tip. At least they didnt charge me for the little bowl of complimentary stale chips & salsa right? Wrong, that should of been my first clue I was going to be far from impressed. All I needed was to be told: "Was everything good mijo?" when I paid my check! Alas, gotta love the westside que no??

Fast service and AFFORDABLE AF!! They have a dine in lunch special for $3.99!!! Like whole plates that elsewhere would be $6-7 is half off for dine in . Looks like a whole in the wall that most people drive past in the west side of San Antonio but giving that I sold the house behind this restaurant i thought I would give this place a shot so I pulled in . My server used the term gravy to describe the sauce for the enchiladas verdes which made me hesitant on how "good" would be here but I went with her recommendation of the Green Chicken enchiladas plate with rice , beans and small iceberg lettuce n diced tomatoes salad . Food arrived about under 10 min from ordering . Waitress warned plate was hot and before was provided with free chips and really good salsa . I declined the additional free tortillas as a side since enchiladas are tortillas . This is bad for me because today is Monday y la dieta empieza el lunes ( most diets start on a Monday ) oops I finished the whole plate ! Did I mention my final tab was $4.32!! $3.99 for the whole plate plus .33 cent tax ! This is a frugal way of going about it when you have not gone grocery shopping . Beans taste authentic to Mexican cuisine vs Texan . Enchiladas are a 3.5 of 5, still good but taste more American spices vs Mexican . Rice is ideal Tex Mex. Water is free and tastes decent unlike other places that taste like it came from old piping . Have not used restrooms so can't review You those but all woman w long hair must have hair up in bun which I appreciate. Would come by again if time allows . Did I say $3.99 special ?!

Definitely one of San Antonio's hidden treasures. The food was amazing. I had the white chicken enchiladas plate. It was so flavorful. The tortillas were homemade and the beans were perfect. From the moment you walk in the door you're acknowledged. You can tell the food is made made with love.

Oh. My. Gawd! Best little Mexican restaurant in San Antonio! I stumbled across this little hole in the wall after a recommendation from an employee on that side of town. Now I normally do not travel that far, in fact I try to avoid that side of town all together. Now I'll be traveling there every week just for there food! When first walking into the place, it does have the small worn booths and older tables that you would expect out of a place advertising 3.99 meals on its window. What I found absolutely wonderful and surprising was the cleanliness, how attentive and nice the servers were, and the overall TASTE of the food! I ordered one of the 3.99 enchilada plate. It came with two, Mexican rice, retried beans and two tortillas. For that price and the outstanding flavor, I can say it was easily a $8 dollar plate. If your on a budget a craving some homemade tortillas, don't hesitate and make a B-line for Casa Chacon!

Electronic dance music pulsed quietly in the background. The toilets were all individual unisex stalls that were classy, mine had run out of hand towels. Also, the entire restaurant is very dimly lit. I had to use the flashlight on my phone to read the menu, but I have poor eyesight so there's that, but it might explain the quality of the photos I took. The Paloma drink was amazing. It had a great spicy zing in the back of the throat after every sip. Queso was... kinda plain. It might have been better with the add chorizo option. It was very thick. Shrimp cocktail was big, but we started fighting over the shrimp pieces. There was plenty of onion and tomato left over after the batttle. Pollo Asado was a great flavor and the chicken was juicy. Grilled squash that was on the side was good. Chicken enchiladas were good and had freshly sliced jalapeños, which is always a welcome detail. I wasn't able to taste the quesadilla but my daoughter said it was "really good". Fried Chicken sandwich had a great flavor and the bacon was actually pork belly if I'm not mistaken. Sadly there was more batter than chicken. The seasoned fries were delicious and crispy.

Our server was very friendly, attentive, and made sure to check on us throughout the meal. The drinks were definitely generous with the alcohol, which we appreciated. However, my piña colada was not quite what I expected. It had more of a milky consistency rather than the icy, blended texture I usually associate with a piña colada. As for the food, it was decent but nothing particularly memorable. I was especially looking forward to the paella, but unfortunately the rice tasted a bit sour, which was disappointing. Overall, the service and atmosphere were the highlights of the experience, while the food left some room for improvement.

We started…read morewith the Pan Fila Conchota combo that is a combination of the two that is 1/2 gallon of hot chocolate made using a base of Abuelitas with additional cinnamon, and cocoa along with something special. It was delicious! The concha was soft, buttery and flaky, with just the right sweetness. We took home the majority of it and it stayed nice and soft instead of turning hard like so many others. We decided to try several appetizers to go along with our concha to get a wider taste of their food than we would by just ordering a couple entrees. Let me tell you, this was a great idea! We ordered the Tosti-Ceviche Verde, Panela Asado, Mexican Street Corn, and their Spicy Bean Dip. The Ceviche Verde was excellent, the freshness of the fish and shrimp was wonderful with the chipotle mayo and avocado. We chose to have it on the salsa Verde Tostitos and it was all great combination. The Panelo Asado was a completely new dish for us and was extremely good with a savory flavor from the salsa Tlaquepaque that mixed well with the Panela cheese. Their tortillas though not made in house, are made for them and taste like mom made them. The Mexican Street Corn was great and had the perfect bit of char taste from the corn. It was creamy and flavorful, we did think it could use just a tad more lime juice though. The Spicy Bean Dip was very good. You can't go wrong with Oaxaca, Chorizo, and pieces of pork mixed with some mildly spicy beans. Our server was fantastic. She had great recommendations for us, and was quick with checking on our drinks and generally helping us throughout our dinner. The food was prepared quickly, was hot, tasteful and refreshing. Not sure if the Italian side and the cantina side share the same kitchen, but we will remember to come back and try that side as well. If the Italian menu and preparation is as unique as the cantina's, it will be a worthy adventure. For our appetizer we got the cheese dish pictured. I can not recall the name, but the cheese is a cool light cheese served in a warm tomato-based sauce, topped with slices of fresh avocados and chicharones and was served with flour and corn tortillas. Very delicious! As mentioned in the opening...the menu, preparation, and presentation at Panfila is unique. For our entrees my wife got the chile Relleno and I got the Milanese con Mole. The chile Relleno was served in a bowl with just an absolutely fabulous sauce and stuffed and covered with nicely melted cheese. The Milanese con Mole was absolutely decadent! The tender pork was lightly fried and covered in the most delicious mole that I have ever eaten. The chocolate was a little more prominent in the flavor profile than I am used to; and I wouldn't think that I would like that, but it was perfect! I enjoyed every bite and used the extra tortillas from our appetizer to finish off the mole. Highly recommend anything on the menu that incorporates that mole!! Fantastic place!
