Had an awesome experience at Da Gennaro. The food was exactly what you hope for when you go out for Italian -- fresh, flavorful, and clearly made with care. Everything tasted authentic and really hit the spot. Our server, Douglas, made the whole experience even better. He was friendly, attentive, and knew the menu well. He gave great recommendations and made sure we were taken care of the entire time without being overbearing. Between the great service and the quality of the food, it was easily one of the better Italian dining experiences I've had in Little Italy. The current owner doesn't want you to know but, originally this place name was Umberto's Clam House-- here was the place where "Crazy" Joe Gallo was tragically killed in 1972--. The location is now occupied by Ristorante Da Gennaro and they literally hate when people ask about that historical fact. Anyways....!!! The staff is friendly, attentive, and welcoming, which adds so much to the experience. We ordered a cheese pizza and a branzino, and both were excellent. The pizza was perfectly baked with a thin, crisp crust and just the right amount of cheese--simple, fresh, and delicious, exactly how an authentic Italian pizza should be. The branzino was a standout--beautifully presented, tender, and flavorful, with that delicate freshness that shows it was cooked with real care. Overall, Da Gennaro delivers on both food and atmosphere, making it a wonderful spot to enjoy a meal while soaking in the Little Italy experience. This place was delicious!! Not much to say besides the food was so good and the pictures will show for itself. I'm a weirdo and love pesto with every bite and they gave me a huge plate of pesto and I even took it home...to RI! The meatballs were so smooth and yummy...I ended up ordering another plate when we finished the first one. Their cannelloni had the perfect seasoning with red sauce. Service was wonderful. They're very quick and attentive! I had crème brûlée come out for a birthday song and that was the only dish I didn't care. Will definitely have to give them another visit when in Manhattan! The food is delicious. The prices are typical for the area. Reservations are offered online, but not honored. Our reservation was at 7, we finally got a table at 8:30. We were instructed to "come back" but we were not checked in by any means... so wasn't really assuring. When we were given our table, we were seated next to the refrigerator which was covered by a curtain in their basement area...so yes, we were asked to "get up" a few times so the wait staff can access the refrigerator. I love this place. It's my go to for delicious Italian food. The wait staff is friendly and the prices are well worth it.

My mother and I haven't been to Da Gennaro or NYC since before the pandemic. It was a tradition of our annual NYC vacay. We were a little concerned it had changed. I can happily report that the food and service are as exceptional as always. Bolognese was perfect. The pizza was crispy and delicious. There's a nice lunch menu. Try the house chianti too. Our team of servers didn't miss a beat. They were fun and efficient. I swear the entire staff stopped by the table to talk to my octogenarian mother. She loved every minute. Since we seemed to be the first people there that night a sudden rush of other people started pouring in. You're paying for location. Service was not good. Requested an appetizer. The food (I had Lobster ravioli and Chicken Parmigiana, and a piece of Calamari someone else had ordered) was top notch, the staff were courteous and quick, and they had the street blocked off, so we ate outside under the beautiful midday sky. Everything about the decor was charming and felt high dollar, and oh yeah, they even bring the water in fancy glass bottles. My whole experience at Da Gennaro was amazing & I can't wait to go back! To start, the hostess and waiters were so kind and very helpful when we had questions about the menu/wanted any food and drink recommendations to try. Really loved the vibes inside as well :) We had the bruschetta to start with and it was really good - small but yummy! I got the chicken parmesan and it was a large portion (so heads up!!) but it was so delicious - it's a must get. My friend got the Rigatoni Melanzane and really enjoyed it (the portion here was also very generous). To end, we finished off with the tiramisu. To me it was a 5/10 - I have definitely had better tiramisu in the city but it's always a must try to finish off the meal. I highly recommend checking this place out and giving it a try. We stopped in after roaming the street just casually picking a place that was still open at 9pm. The menu looked great and the inside of the restaurant is stunning. Very cozy and really lovely. We opted to share and salad and ordered our own pasta entrees. We did notice our waiter was not as attentive as the other in the restaurant. He tried to upsell us "still" water and I caught him by just asking for tap. We also were not provided any bread with oil, but noticed every other table was immediately given bread basket after bread basket. The food was good and I would go back. Carlos is a superstar server, and for the food, we come here once a year and have so for fifteen years. I am always reminded as to what tomato sauce is supposed to taste like. I consider myself a regular since the first time I visited. I come here once in a while because I love their Paccheri alla Gennaro, their pasta is made in house. My partner and I made a reservation here for Valentine's day and I know it's a busy night, but there was absolutely zero organization and no respect or system for anyone that had reservations. We had a reservation at 8pm, arrived at 7:50 and did not get seated until 8:30pm after waiting outside in the cold. Service was very slow throughout which at first we accepted because of the customer flow, but we ordered around 8:45-8:50 and did not see our food until 10pm. I ordered the campanelle and pesto which was phenomenal and the only redeemable thing about this place because my partner's eggplant parmesan was completely cold and soggy. They even said at one point they were fairly certain it was frozen eggplant because the texture and flavor was so off. I am sure if we came here on a regular night, it would not be as bad, but on a special night I expect at the very least a warm meal. Whenever I go to NYC, I always stop at this place. Family Style Italian food at its finest. Today we had Chicken Parmigiana and Salmon in an amazing butter sauce, both with pasta. This wonderful find was discovered in Little Italy. I was very happy to order the fettuccine Mare Monte, it was amazing! Mine was made with gluten-free pasta (penne) and it was done perfectly!
