I love this place! I drive delivery and often get my break in this area. This spot has become my go-to for lunch when I'm close enough. Lots of vegetarian options here. Gluten free items too. And the volcano salsa (and their salsa bar in general) is some of the best I've had in town. All of their vegetarian options are great and full of flavor. Portions are satisfying to large. And the owners of this spot are a lovely local couple. I always feel awesome supporting real people. I appreciate how they make an effort to remember and chat with their regulars. It's such a simple thing, but it makes a difference to feel like you're part of the community. I'm a big fan of the nachos, sopes, queso taco, and the chilaquiles. The black beans are vegan, the refried beans are made with lard. Great to have veggie 'meat' options, outdoor seating good for people watching, we thought the food was just ok. No beer, even though it was on the posted menu. Very few chips served with the meal. Very reasonable prices. You order at counter then they bring food to you in a 'to go' bag...lots of waste if you are eating in. I ordered veggie burrito, others ordered tacos and bean & cheese burrito. Not a lot of taste. That said, they do have a condiments bar where you could add salsa (of varying degrees of heat) and jalapenos. Which we were initially unaware of. if you like your Mexican with a little heat make sure you add the hot salsa and some jalapenos before you start. (maybe just me, but if I open open a burrito to add stuff I can never get it properly closed again, making a real mess of a meal) Probably will not be back. I ordered from UberEats & was surprised at how much I enjoyed my order! I've known about Casa Playa since I was in high school but only had a chance to try it with this order. The burrito from UberEats was $17.59 plus tax $1.72, Uber's fees - Service fee $3.17, CA driver fee $0.50, and Delivery fee $0.49, the Total was $23.47. Thanks to my Uber driver my burrito arrived hot and ready to be eaten along with some round fried tortilla chips and a container of spicy red salsa (no utensils were needed, it's a burrito!). The shrimp was cooked to perfection, super soft and moist, with a grilled flavor, very delicious! The rice was perfectly seasoned and delicious as well. The size of the burrito was impressive and I'm glad I found another great beach-style Mexican place for my burrito cravings. This is hands down my favorite taco place in this area. Awesome too that they now have Beyond Burgers and added two new tacos that are to die for, yummy. The Baja Fish taco with coleslaw, pineapple and really big piece of fresh fish is my favorite, though the veggie Queso Fresco taco is pretty great too. I was just sent a question on how they are handling the pandemic. They were one of the first in the area to put up a shield and require masks and social distancing. They seem to wipe everything down every few mintues. You can pay by credit card without touching anything or being near anyone. Just finished a meal with the family here and I was definitely impressed! This place is perfect for the Village and is one of the Mexican food spots in the area. It's not authentic, definitely a so-Cal vibe like using hash browns in the California burrito, but all of the seasoning on the meat is on point! I tried the asada, carnitas and the pollo. Good marinades and well cooked! I watched the cook prepare the food and he was a machine, no wasted movement. They have good daily specials on the wall which are a good deal for entree, rice&beans + soda for $8 to $9. Bonus: they have a great salsa bar with 5 different heat levels including a Volcano sauce which is habanero & mango. Give this spot a try, you won't regret it! read more

Everything that came out of the kitchen was cold, the chips were burnt and it was oddly expensive considering it's mostly a take away restaurant. I've been coming to this place for a while and I usually get bean and cheeses burritos. This time I wanted to experiment and got the green chilli verde wet burrito, the one that originally cost $9 on the menu became $11 after tax. Taste: great! no comment Portion size: HUGE with chips and salsa too. The only downside is that I got really bad Diarrhoea after going to that place. It was pretty my my second meal of the day and the whole night i was miserable along with today.
