This place really is a hidden gem. We drove here this time instead of walking, and boy was it hard to find. We couldn't figure out where to park and drove around a bit until we found only 2 parking spots with signs for castaway cafe. We got there a little late for breakfast so we had to order lunch. Calamari and nachos were good but the chips tasted a little stale. Decided to get the chocolate pie dessert and it was huge! Really good though and we'll be back. read more

Super cute, breezy, and fun restaurant right on the beach. The view at sunset is stunning. I loved their mai tai. The mahi fish tacos were delicious and just the right size. Prices are high but in line for this area. I wish they had other fish options. The ahi tuna poke was almost all guac and no ahi. The fish is fresh but not enough for the price point. Customer service is top notch and friendly. Note: This was for a Sunday night. Went back on Monday night and sat at the bar -- don't do it. Sticky counter, one bartender who was overloaded and unhappy, and nachos didn't have nearly enough cheese. read more

Great food with an even better view! This cafe is perfect for brunch by the beach. The restaurant has outdoor and indoor seating, though outdoor is only in the shade until about noon or so. The view is amazing though, it is probably the closest to the beach we got at a sit-down restaurant. The staff was also very friendly. The food was pretty good as well. Our favorite was the huevos rancheros - the kalua pork was delicious with the crispy tortilla. It was a little too black bean forward, but still was delicious! The Paradise pancakes were also excellent - the pancakes were super fluffy and came with coconut cream that really complemented the pineapple and macadamia nut topping. We must love this place!! Only restaurant we've gone to twice on this trip!! It's got an amazing location. The restaurant feels like a true secluded beach shack and cafe. Loved the whole vibe. The food was great as was the service. Unfortunately a drunk female patron at the bar ruined the atmosphere for us- a family of 8 with two young children. She was loud and used foul language. We hurried through our dessert to leave. When my husband asked her to watch her language, she became very belligerent. The bartender told us to not worry because they were closing soon. Well, gee. Just left Castaways and we enjoyed our breakfast. Had to wait until 9 am to get in, but we're seated on the patio to enjoy the view and delicious Bloody Mary's. I had the eggs Benedict with sausage and my husband had the huevos rancheros. He said it had a lot of flavor. My dish was good also, just wished the potatoes were warmer. We loved our recent breakfast so decided to go for dinner. Again, excellent service. Decent sized pours of wine by the glass. It was a Saturday so prime rib was available. It was very good as were the fries on the side. My guest ordered the catch of the day which was Walu (butterfish). She loved the preparation and side of mixed vegetables. Only problem was the very small portion size of the fish. It was only 2 ounces and for $45 that's is ridiculous. Had dinner at the quaint and cozy Castaway Café under the new management of the Cohn group! We met Carmela the chef and she was just fantastic! Her fresh Ono with the coconut sweet chili buerre blanc was outstanding as were the fish tacos and ribeye steak! The new manager, Alex was extremely knowledgeable and kind, and steered us towards some very yummy wines. He was as hospitable as they come! We loved this place so much we ate here 3 times during our vacation. I had the heuvos rancheros twice and it was delicious! The perfect amount of Kahula pork, crunch and spices. It truly is my perfect breakfast fast. My honey ordered the Mac nut coconut banana pancakes with three shots of haiupia syrup. He was in heaven! This gem of a restaurant is tucked away and right on the beach. Relaxing and comfortable. Our waitresses Rickee was so wonderful and accommodating! I think that this place would benefit greatly from better use of spices. The location/views are spectacular, but the food was pretty blah. Not at all inedible! Like, if you want a decently priced breakfast/brunch this place will do in a pinch. But really not a whole lot of flavor. Even in the Kalua pork! Which was super disappointing. Update: Chef Niko reached out to me and was super apologetic about the lack of seasoning. I hope that it was just a fluke that our meals were missing pizazz. I hope to try out the food again when we're back in 6 months or so. read more
