Surprised that this cafe is a 4 star average! The food is actually 2 or 2.5 stars and underwhelming. The menu is quite limited. Settled for fish and chips which I devoured due to a long day of travel. Hubby got the kalua nachos which was more nachos than pork/other ingredients. His peach selzer drink was alright. The lilikoi cheesecake was the highlight of our meal which was somewhat of a delight after the lackluster entrees. Service was a 5, definitely had the aloha spirit. The view from outdoor seating was stunning. Prices of course are overpriced resort dining. This was a one and done experience. Great breakfasts and served hot! My favorite was the eggs, bacon and toast because they cooked it perfectly. Lastly, the service is quick and the waitresses are SPECTACULAR AND SUPER FRIENDLY! The kitchen staff brings the breakfast plates to your table if the waitresses are busy which is ABOVE AND BEYOND, obviously speaks to the fact that they know it gets cold easily and when it's ready, they walk it right out to your table. Jamie was AMAZING and I don't want this to be negative on her whatsoever she was amazing and even comped our food for us. KEVIN the food runner is so BEYOND DISRESPECTFUL . We were on FaceTime with our kids and he comes over and yells at us saying "get off FaceTime nobody wants to hear that" keep in mind, everyone in the restaurant was talking loud and some even talking to their families and he comes and yells at us. We spoke to our server Jamie about it and she was so amazing and it seemed like this happens often with Kevin. Jamie offered to pay for our breakfast and I felt so bad that she has to work in a place where someone like Kevin works. After seeing extraordinary raving reviews, I was disappointed with how ordinary the Castaway Cafe actually was. There was not a hostess in sight when we came in. We stood there sweating like a sinner in church for a good amount of time (say 30 mins, & that's me being nice) before someone actually came and ONLY to take our name down... The waiters avoided all eye contact as much as possible. After we were finally on the wait list, we had to wait another 30 mins before a seat was available. If you're wondering if there is outdoor seating, be disappointed because THERE IS NOT. Not sure why when they have an absolutely stunning view! It's selfish to not share this slice of heaven. When we were finalIy seated, they were kind of enough to seat us at the bar. Not an issue when the bartender, Andy, was actually the most gracious of them all. Around 4:30 pm, I sat at the outside bar facing the beach and dining area and the bartender suggested her favorite bites from the menu - why not get it straight from someone that has probably tasted the entire menu, right? Get the coconut shrimp and ahi poke! I was there to listen to the Friday evening guitarist who was fantastic- they have live music on weekends. Parking can be an issue being your patience and you may need to make a reservation at peak dining times, but overall what a cool place to visit when on Maui. read more

This place was a hidden gem! The food is delicious and very fresh. We were staying at the Westin and walked over. The food is way better than any of the resort restaurants and worth the walk. Food is really good! Came here our first day in Hawaii and the omelet was cheesy, sausage was savory, and potato wedges were very tasty too. Came back for lunch and also really enjoyed the fish n chips. Fish was crispy and moist and the tartar sauce was incredibly good better than other restaurants I've had. The coleslaw was kind of dry and not very pineapple-y but my sister liked hers better that came on the fish sandwich. Service was quick and people were very nice. Good about filling up water. We loved our table with the most beautiful view of the ocean on a breezy day. Little birds of different types strolled around keeping us company the whole time we ate. One had a bright yellow beak! Food: Ordered Fish and Chips. Not too spicy, just the right amount and not too salty, just the right amount. The fish was fresh and tasted good. The portions were enough, not too big and not too small. They also served pineapple coleslaw with food which I had never tried. The servers were all very nice and accommodating. We decided to go to castaway cafe on a whim as we were up early and it was opening soon. There was already a huge line when we got there and they hit capacity right when they got to us. It was a 35-45 minute wait so we sat in their bar area outside and had some drinks. We were seated quicker than that timeframe and had a prime location outside with the most amazing view. I did not like the Bloody Mary I got - it tasted pretty Much just like horseradish. The loco moco I had was also disappointing with mushy rice and under seasoned meat - I had to add salt and pepper. My partners meal was also lackluster. Come for the views for sure, but I would not order what I had again. read more

We had an amazing dining experience at Castaway Cafe! The food was fantastic and the service was phenomenal! We had the Kaldi chicken dish followed by the homemade chocolate ice cream pie and all I can say is "WOW!" The chef even came out to give a breakdown of each dish and the staff set us up for success as to where we should visit here in Maui.
