We've been eating here 20 years. When it was called Top Kat. It's now called something else but food is exactly the same. It's very fresh and very good. I LOVED the fried oysters. Melt in your mouth delicious. Cat fish was great. Shrimp is good but I've always wished they wouldn't butterfly them quite so thin as it does cause them to become a bit over cooked, but it's been that way for decades and why fix what's not broken?. You can taste the gulf freshness in the shrimp though. And that's a good thing. Everything tastes super fresh. Hubby loves the Mexican shrimp cocktail. HUGE HUGE HUGE. He ordered that and we shared a large platter. 3 shrimp (we ordered 2 extra but left one) 2 fish fillets and 3 oysters. Fries. He ordered an order of hush puppies. I'm not a huge fan of these. They aren't crispy enough. Food is consistent but pricey in my opinion. Our meal with two drinks was 42$. I think that's about 10$ more than it should be. Everything is self serve. You order at a counter and get your own condiments. They do bring food to table but you have to refill own drinks etc. It looks like a complete dump outside. If you didn't know it was there you'd probably never know it existed. You'd definitely drive past it if you did see it and didn't know it's was really good food lol. Soooo if ever in Irving Texas. Stop in and check it out. You will enjoy it. The inside is clean and really cute. Workers are very pleasant. Note: I'd review this as 4.5 stars for food. What happened????? I have always LOVED the whole catfish at this location on Irving BLVD. ....waved about it...even highly recommended it to friends and family. This all changed Sunday. I called two orders for a 12:30 p. m. When I got there, they were not ready. The first problem, I passed Amy two twenty dollar bills for a $29.66 order and she gave me .30 cents back...ok, that could have been an honest mistake. When my order was finally ready, got home and both catfish was COLD....the hushpuppies cold and hard...nothing was freshly fried!!!! Why did I have to wait for fish that appeared to be leftovers from the previous day?????? read more

Stopped by the Catfish House for lunch. I called in my order. He said 10 mins. So I arrived to the establishment. It is very basic. I go to the counter ask for my order, not quite ready. I got there a little early. The food came out quick enough. I ordered the catfish and oysters basket. I love both. This catfish was just fish and cornmeal, nothing special. It was fresh. The oysters was over cooked and chewy. I had to remove two of them from my mouth. Not good. Overall. The building was basic, the service was good and the food not so much. I'll keep trying to find a good place for seafood in Irving. read more

Absolutely fantastic catfish. This has to be one of my favorite places to eat fried catfish. I come here usually at the very least once a month maybe two. Everything is usually spot on. The tartar sauce was delicious. The fried shrimp is great. The fried oysters are pretty good. The fries are a decent filler. I highly recommend the two fillet and shrimp combo basket. read more

I tried this place randomly based on the area I was in. I ordered the 2 piece for dine-in. I'm not sure how you can mess up fried catfish but this place definitely missed the mark. It tasted muddy as if it wasn't cleaned correctly? Although I didn't notice anything that looked suspicious. So I'm not making that claim! It had a nice breading but under-cooked in the middle. I didn't care for the choice of seasonings; although you could tell they seasoned the corn-meal, which is a plus! The customer service was non-existence. Smh....waisted time and money. The guy working the register is not professional at all and very discourteous. He was just very dry with the all the customers that came in after me as I waited on my order. No hello or any kinda of greeting. I had fish and fries...my mistake. Fish was thin and over cooked. Mainly crust and not seasoned. I don't know how you mess up fries but they were hard as heck and bland. Overall bad experience even the lady that gave me my food never smiled or said thank you. Yum! It's not the *best* catfish I have ever had, but it's good and I appreciate the lack of greasiness compared to how some places prepare theirs. It is a bit pricey--$30 for 6 filets (with hushpuppies and fries included, but I substituted coleslaw for fries) and a side order of fried green tomatoes--but at least the filets are big. They came with ketchup and tartar sauce and the tomatoes came with ranch. I personally like cocktail sauce with my catfish, so that was a minor bummer and my husband didn't like their tartar sauce. Oh well. This was his first time in over 10 years trying catfish after proclaiming he didn't like it and Catfish House converted him last night, so I am considering it a win. The extruder-type hushpuppies were nice and the coleslaw was good as well. Like I said, it might not be the best in the world, but it's solid and we will eat here again. read more

Ordered 2 catfish fillet combos, included fries and tarter sauce. The tarter sauce is sooooo good. Not like the store bought crap, you can tell it's homemade. I placed a to go order my first visit. The food was so fresh and tasty I went back two days later for the same meal. I will say the day and time of day matters. My to go meal was on a late Tuesday evening and the place was not busy. My food was piping hot and packed with tons of condiments including lemons. My second go round was during lunch and although the food was good it wasn't really the same experience. This place has changed over the years. I used to come here and enjoy the food but recently I wasn't satisfied. I placed a order of onion rings and while I was waiting I notice the waitress was in the back talking with the cooks and they just happened to look at me while they were discussing something. Afterwards she brought me my food and when I returned home and checked my food, instead of onion rings they gave me fried calamari!!! I'm confused because I didn't even see it on the menu! Their hush puppies are the sticks and they have a bit of jalapeño in them. Very yummy. They have lots of sauces, tartar sauce, lemons and limes. They have other dishes as well. They have your standard chicken strips for my daughter. No seafood for her. They have fried shrimp. They have Po boys which look good but I only get the catfish filets!!! We have been here soooo many times. We eat there often. We took some friends there and they loved it as well. Do yourself a favor and try it out. Now, the cornmeal on the catfish doesn't have a lot of seasoning... But it's so good. Not too salty. They also have pieces of pies there. The pecan pie is the bestest!!! Great little place for picking some catfish and other seafood. I've only done take out from here since they changed their name to Catfish House. Frankly, the only reason it's not a four star is that the customer service is sometimes lacking. Keeping in mind, I've only done take out since the name change from Top Cat. The young man that's usually at the counter when I arrive doesn't seem to care much about customer service. On numerous occasions, he's messed up my order total on the register, and I've had to catch his error. Otherwise, I'm happy with everything else. They have never screwed up my order from the kitchen. The cook has been spot on. The catfish is crispy but not overcooked. The catfish fillets are relatively large, and I like the fact the corn meal is not over seasoned. I enjoy tasting the seafood and prefer my seafood lightly seasoned. The catfish fillet box is a huge meal, including an impressive amount of fries and hushpuppies. The shrimp cocktail was so tasty and fresh. I could have made a meal out of just that! Lucky for me I did not. The catfish arrived still sizzling s little from the fryer. The fillets were not huge and perfectly fried. The breeding was nice and crispy and the fish itself was so flaky. Did not care for the fries, but the hush puppies were out of this world. Not your traditional hushpuppy. Can't wait to come back. The entire place is as laid back as the cool blues they play through the speakers. Excellent everything!! We tried Cajun and regular catfish, gumbo, red beans and rice, fries and hush puppies and I loved it all!!! We are really picky about the large steak fries, most times they come out soggy and gross but these were the BEST fries and stayed crispy and yum the whole meal! Everything was cooked perfectly and even though it's over 30 min from home we will be back!!! Delicious!! Oh and don't be fooled.... A 2 piece catfish is huge! read more

Been here a few times for lunch during the week while working in the area.. Popular place with the locals so that should tell you something. So far I've tried there Catfish, Shrimp Pasta and the Mexican Shrimp Cocktail. I have to say the Pasta and Catfish were just OK. But the Mexican Shrimp Cocktail, not to be confused with Shrimp Cocktail was exceptional. No joke, it's the best I've had in a long time. If you like Seafood the Menu is vast. If I could give "0" stars then I would. This meal was horrible. It's obvious all the good reviews were given by family and friends of the establishment. The fish tasted muddy or dirty and the crawfish tails were more cornmeal than crawfish. The hush puppies appeared to be soaked in grease and the coleslaw was... well it just was.
