Let's start with the portions: We asked for a simple half rice, half salad base. What we received wouldn't have satisfied a toddler after preschool. Truly impressive how you can charge full price and still serve portions so laughably small they belong in a dollhouse. As if that weren't enough, the energy behind the counter was giving Mean Girls reunion. One of the employees (short Mexican girl with too much makeup) greeted us with a tone that could peel paint--sharp, nasally, and dripping with passive aggression. I asked if she was okay if she's tired, because her whole demeanor radiated either exhaustion or extreme disdain for customers. (Spoiler: She didn't appreciate the question, and what followed was a complete attitude shift--not just from her, but from her co-worker as well, who decided to match the vibe with an extra helping of rudeness.) From the food assembly to checkout, it became a performance of indifference and snark. The ghetto blonde girl at the register even made me bag my own food, apparently too busy cultivating a look of deep irritation to do her actual job. This is my second time here and the first time I visited was when they barely opened and man the customer service has gone downhill since. None of staff was friendly and one girl was borderline rude and definitely didn't want to be there. The garlic sauce was strange to me and a bit too concentrated tasting. I had the chicken pita, and it totally hit the spot while not feeling too heavy. A lot of people compare CAVA to Chipotle and that's not far. Same concept but totally different taste profile. I loved their freshly brewed teas/juices. I have never tried their Mint Cucumber drink before because I simply do not like anything minty. Ever! Stavo suggested I give it a try. I asked him directly, "Is it minty?" He confidently told me it wasn't overpowering and that it's actually one of their top drinks. And let me just say he did not lie!!!! The Mint Cucumber was divine. So refreshing. And while we're here, if you haven't had their Pita Chips, you are absolutely missing out. They are the BEST. Perfectly crisp, lightly salted, and dangerously addictive. I was texted updates on how long it would take. In my way, the finish time went from 12-10-8 minutes. So it was ready right before I got there. They have shelves where they put the to go containers. Easy to pick up. The place was busy, but seemed clean. I wasn't there long enough to see anything else. When I got home we each ate our salads. We were both happy with what we ordered. When I went back to ask for the items I had paid for, she told me the pita crisps weren't in the bag because she "didn't charge me for them"--even though I clearly asked for them. I had a very disappointing experience at cava, This was my first time coming here, and unfortunately the customer service was extremely poor. My niece comes here often and let me know that customers are usually able to ask for samples, but when I asked, the staff was rude and made me feel uncomfortable. When I asked for a fork, instead of simply helping, the employee just stared at me and responded in a very rude and impatient way. What really upset me was when it was time to pay the employee basically threw my bowl over to the cashier. At that point, I honestly did not even want the food anymore because of how disrespectful the interaction felt. I still ended up purchasing food for my kids because they were hungry, but after this experience, I will not be coming back. I understand that it was busy. but that is not an excuse to be disrespectful to customers, especially first-time customers. They offer a ton of options here, which is appreciated and I've never gone wrong with anything I've tried. With that being said, I'd say the food here can get pricey and it's not worth the quality and quantity of food you're getting. For close to $20 for my bowl, I wouldn't say that it was worth it. I've been to locations in Irvine and Pasadena and I'd say they skimp a bit more on portions at this location. Service here is friendly, however, it does get loud so when I was ordering, I had a hard time hearing the worker and vice versa. Because of this, my order came out partially wrong. One major difference I noticed about Cava is that they offer more dips, veggie, and meat selections, making the possibilities endless compared to their competitors. If there is an improvement that can be made about this restaurant, it would be keeping the working station and tables clean and sanitary. Veggies were spread all over the working station, and the cleanliness of the dining tables was an issue. I ordered the Build-Your-Own-Bowl, which was packed with all the choices possible, although it was difficult to explain what was in it. Overall, it was good.
